Notably, this handheld will incorporate the features of the DualSense controller, including adaptive triggers and haptic feedback. While the exact release date and pricing details were not disclosed by Sony, the Q handheld is scheduled to debut later this year. Sony unveils Project Q, a handheld device for streaming PS5 games

New Delhi, Nov 16 () The country's GDP growth is likely to decline to 4.9 per cent in the second quarter of this fiscal due to sustained slowdown in virtually all the sectors, economic think-tank NCAER said on Saturday.
 India's economy grew at 5 per cent in the first quarter of 2019-20 -- the slowest pace in over six years.
 For the full fiscal 2019-20, the Delhi-based National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER) has pegged GDP growth at 4.9 per cent as against 6.8 per cent in 2018-19.
 Going forward, NCAER said the monetary policy measures are unlikely to revive growth at this juncture and suggested providing fiscal stimulus, which too can be challenging unless it can be financed through better revenue generation.
 "Whether the growth deceleration may be bottoming out or not, we will know in next two weeks based on the Q2 growth figures of the government. However, the current poor growth is mainly due to a demand problem. It can be addressed through fiscal measures," NCAER Distinguished Fellow Sudipto Mundle told on the sidelines of its event on 'Mid-year review of the economy'.
 Emphasising that the focus should be on fiscal measures, Mundle said there is a need to pump up expenditure without pushing up the fiscal deficit.
 There are ways of doing it, he said, adding, "We have a bold leader. There is a huge fiscal space which has not been used. It is myth that some say there is no fiscal space."
 Mundle said that revenue foregone is 5 per cent of the country's GDP and about 1.5 per cent of GDP is locked up as excess appropriation of the budget which has not been spent. Even the government is not paying the bills, he said.
 "So, there is a lot of fiscal space, but you need take tough measures. First of all, we need to reduce exemptions on indirect tax custom duties. There was no need to reduce corporate tax. Are companies investing after that? This makes the position worse," he added.
 Earlier, while presenting the mid-year review of the economy, NCAER Senior Fellow Bornali Bhandari said currently the world economic growth is at its lowest since the global financial recession in 2008. India is also experiencing a decline in growth, which is sharper than the global slowdown.
 "We have projected 4.9 per cent GDP growth for the Q2 of this fiscal based on the 'nowcasting model' with error margin of 1 per cent. For the full fiscal, the GDP (growth) is pegged at 4.9 per cent," she said.
 The government's projection, which is expected to be released by the month-end, should be between 4.4 and 4.9 per cent for the Q2 of this fiscal, she added.
 Observing that the sharp decline in growth reflects a slowdown across virtually all sectors, Bhandari said there has been deceleration in all the drivers of demand.
 "Exports of goods and services have fallen since Q2 of 2018-19 fiscal to 1.9 per cent, that means there has been no external demand. Investment demand and business sentiment are falling mainly because of demand reasons. The government is not in a position to expand expenditure. Where is the demand? The challenges are various and therefore we see dismal growth in Q2 and for full year," she said.

They've been pulling this off by improving operational efficiencies, which often means laying off workers and getting more out of the workers who stick around.
This story has been captured neatly by <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/category/profit-margins">widening profit margins</a>.
According to <a href="http://www.factset.com/insight">data from FactSet</a>, Q3 earnings per share grew at a 5.6% rate while revenue climbed by just 3.7%. It's the same old story.
Margins are already near record highs. But analysts expect they'll actually go higher from here. Here's more from FactSet:
...For Q4 2014, Q1 2015, and Q2 2015, analysts are predicting earnings growth rates of 6.0%, 7.8%, and 9.0%, respectively. For all of 2014, the projected earnings growth rate is 6.1%. For all of 2015, the projected earnings growth rate is 10.5%.
...For Q4 2014, Q1 2015, and Q2 2015, analysts are predicting revenue growth rates of 2.8%, 3.5%, and 2.9%. For all of 2014, the projected revenue growth rate is 3.7%. For all of 2015, the projected revenue growth rate is 3.7%.
Given this divergence in expected earnings and revenue growth over the next few quarters, analysts are expecting profit margins to continue to expand into 2015. Using the bottom-up sales-per-share (SPS) and earnings-per-share (EPS) estimates for the S&amp;P 500 as proxies for expected sales and earnings for the index over the next few quarters, profit margin estimates can be calculated by dividing the expected EPS by the expected SPS for each quarter. Using this methodology, the estimated net profit margins for Q4 2014, Q1 2015, and Q2 2015 are 10.3%, 10.4%, and 10.7%. These numbers are above the blended net profit margin for Q3 2014 (9.9%), and are also well above the average net profit margin of 9.3% recorded over the past four years.
Corporations can't keep squeezing incremental amounts of production from their assets into perpetuity. At some point, something's gotta give.

Wall Street Expects Already Fat Profit Margins To Expand Into 2015

With the release of the August employment report we can update the unemployment rate chart that I'm using to track when the Fed will start tapering the QE3 purchases.
The September FOMC meeting is on the 17th and 18th. The employment report was the last key data that will be released before the September FOMC meeting.
At the June FOMC press conference, Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke said:
"If the incoming data are broadly consistent with this forecast, the Committee currently anticipates that it would be appropriate to moderate the monthly pace of purchases later this year. And if the subsequent data remain broadly aligned with our current expectations for the economy, we would continue to reduce the pace of purchases in measured steps through the first half of next year, ending purchases around midyear. In this scenario, when asset purchases ultimately come to an end, the unemployment rate would likely be in the vicinity of 7%, with solid economic growth supporting further job gains, a substantial improvement from the 8.1% unemployment rate that prevailed when the committee announced this program."

The current forecast is for the unemployment rate to decline to 7.2% to 7.3% in Q4 2013.
We only have data through August, and so far the unemployment rate is tracking at the bottom of the forecast (lower is better). 
However, in July, Bernanke said that the unemployment rate "probably understates the weakness of the labor market." He suggested he is watching other employment indicators too, and I think the decline in the participation rate offsets the decline in the unemployment rate.

The current forecast is for GDP to increase between 2.3% and 2.6% from Q4 2012 to Q4 2013.
Combined the first and second quarter were below the FOMC projections. GDP would have to increase at a 2.8% annual rate in the 2nd half to reach the FOMC lower projection, and at a 3.3% rate to reach the higher projection.

The current forecast is for prices to increase 0.8% to 1.2% from Q4 2012 to Q4 2013.
So far PCE prices are close to this projection - however this projection is significantly below the FOMC target of 2%. Clearly the FOMC expects inflation to pickup, and a key is if the recent decline in inflation is "transitory".
PCE prices wouldn't have to increase much over the next five months to reach the upper FOMC projection.

The current forecast is for core prices to increase 1.2% to 1.3% from Q4 2012 to Q4 2013.
So far core PCE prices are below this projection - and, once again, this projection is significantly below the FOMC target of 2%.
It now looks the year-end data might be "broadly consistent" with the June FOMC projections. However I think the decline in the participation rate will factor into the discussions.

The Incoming Economic Data Is Missing The Fed's Forecast

Chennai, Credit rating agency <keyword id="19908266" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="icra" source="keywords">ICRA</keyword> on Wednesday said <keyword id="19895063" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="india" source="keywords">India</keyword>'s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) would grow at 6 per cent in Q3 FY2024 from 7.6 per cent in Q2 FY2024. Further, the Gross Value Added (GVA) growth is estimated to ease to 6 per cent in Q3 FY2024 from 7.4 per cent in Q2 FY2024, driven by the industrial and agriculture sectors, amid an improvement in the services sector. According to ICRA, the anticipated deterioration in the industrial sector growth in Q3 FY2024 is partly attributable to an adverse base effect and a deceleration in volume expansion even as the continued deflation in commodity prices kept profitability of some sectors favourable. Additionally, a mild 0.2 per cent contraction in the total spending of Government of India and 25 state governments (all states except <keyword id="19915575" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="arunachal-pradesh" source="keywords">Arunachal Pradesh</keyword>, <keyword id="19895061" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="goa" source="keywords">Goa</keyword> and Manipur) in Q3 FY2024 is expected to have dulled the GVA growth in the quarter. "Lower volume growth for the industrial sector, flagging momentum in certain indicators of investment activity, a slowdown in Government expenditure and an uneven monsoon are expected to dampen the GDP growth to 6.0 per cent in Q3 FY2024 from 7.6 per cent in Q2 FY2024," <keyword id="20028743" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="aditi-nayar" source="keywords">Aditi Nayar</keyword>, Chief Economist, Head-Research &amp; Outreachs said. ICRA estimates the industrial GVA growth to record a broad-based moderation to 8.8 per cent in Q3 FY2024 from 13.2 per cent in Q2 FY2024, led by all four sub-sectors, namely, manufacturing, electricity, construction and mining and quarrying. ICRA projects manufacturing GVA expansion at a healthy 10 per cent in Q3 FY2024, twice as high as the 4.7 per cent seen in Q1 FY2024, albeit lower than the 13.9 per cent recorded in Q2 FY2024, amid a deceleration in volume growth as reflected in the manufacturing Index of Industrial Production (IIP). Owing to the decline in output across all major kharif crops projected by the First Advance Estimates, ICRA projects the growth in agriculture, forestry, and fishing to dip to a muted 0.5 per cent in Q3 FY2024 from 1.2 per cent in Q2 FY2024. This would be the lowest growth print for the sector since Q4 FY2019 (-0.9 per cent). In contrast to industry and agriculture, ICRA estimates the services GVA YoY growth to rise to 6.5 per cent in Q3 FY2024 from 5.8 per cent in Q2 FY2024, led by trade, hotels, transport, communication and services related to broadcasting.

Das said, "Global food prices showed signs of easing in the month of July after registering an increase since March 2024." A degree of relief in food inflation is expected from the pickup in southwest monsoon and healthy progress in Kharif sowing. Buffer stocks of cereals continue to be above the norms, according to RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das. Das added, "Assuming a normal monsoon and taking into account the 4.9 per cent inflation print, Q1 CPI inflation for the current financial year (2024-25) is projected at 4.5 per cent, with q2 at 4.4 per cent, Q3 at 4.7 per cent and Q4 at 4.3 per cent. CPI inflation for the first quarter of next financial year (Q1 2025-26) is projected at 4.4 per cent." The inflation landscape reflects mixed signals, to which Das said, "<keyword id="21258540" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="headline-inflation" source="keywords">Headline inflation</keyword> eased up to 5.1 per cent in June 2024 due to higher than expected food inflation. Fuel remained in deflation for the 10th consecutive month. Core inflation moderated to a historic low in the months of May and June." RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das, outlined the <keyword id="19900794" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="economic-growth" source="keywords">economic growth</keyword> with real <keyword id="19972825" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="GDP-growth" source="keywords">GDP growth</keyword> of 7.2 per cent for the fiscal year 2024-25 and headline inflation eased to 5.1 per cent in June, on Thursday. Das said, "Real GDP growth for 2024-25 is projected at 7.2 per cent with Q1 at 7.1 per cent, Q2 at 7.2 per cent, Q3 at 7.3 per cent and Q4 at 7.2 per cent. Real GDP growth for Q1 2025-26, this is something which we are giving for the first time, is projected at 7.2 per cent. The risks are evenly balanced." He added, "We have slightly moderated the <keyword id="387719" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="growth-projection" source="Orion">growth projection</keyword> for the first quarter of the current financial year in relation to the projection we gave in the previous MPC in June. This is primarily due to updated information on certain high-frequency indicators which show lower than anticipated corporate profitability, general government expenditure and core industries output." This forecast marks a slight moderation from previous estimates provided in the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting in June, attributed to recent updates on high-frequency indicators such as corporate profitability, general government expenditure, and core industries output. The inflation landscape reflects mixed signals, to which Das said, "Headline inflation eased up to 5.1 per cent in June 2024 due to higher than expected food inflation. Fuel remained in deflation for the 10th consecutive month. Core inflation moderated to a historic low in the months of May and June." Balancing robust growth projections with a nuanced understanding of inflation dynamics Governor Das stated, "Food inflation which has a weight of around 46 per cent in the CPI basket, contributed to more than 75 per cent of headline inflation in May and June. Vegetable prices increased sharply and contributed about 35 per cent to inflation in June. High inflation pressures persisted across other major food items also." Governor Das mentioned softening in core inflation continues to be broad-based with core services inflation touching a new low in the current CPI series during the month of May and June 2024. Das stated, "The high food price momentum likely to have continued in the month of July also. Large favourable base effects may however push headline inflation downwards in July. The Impact of the revision in milk prices mobile tariffs also needs to be carefully monitored." A degree of relief in food inflation is expected from the pickup in south west monsoon and healthy progress in Kharif sowing. Buffer stocks of cereals continue to be above the norms, according to RBI Governor Shaktikanta das. Das anticipates some relief in food inflation due to the expected pickup in the southwest monsoon and healthy progress in Kharif sowing. Buffer stocks of cereals remain above the normative levels, contributing to a more stable food price environment. Global food prices, which have been on an upward trajectory since March 2024, showed signs of easing in July.

RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das projects 7.2% GDP growth for 2024-25, reports eased inflation to 5.1% in June

The year 2022 recorded an escalation in material costs due to curtailed production amid the pandemic and increased international shipping costs led by supply chain bottlenecks. The overall construction cost of greenfield infrastructure projects increased by 5-7 per cent in the third quarter of 2022 (July-September), said leading real estate consulting firm <keyword id="6376943" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="cbre" source="Orion">CBRE</keyword> South <keyword id="21718" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="asia" source="Orion">Asia</keyword> in a report on Thursday. The report examines the current market landscape and deliberates on factors influencing cost trends across key asset classes. Labour costs increased by 8-10 per cent and reinforcement steel prices by about 20 per cent year-on-year during Q3 2022. Looking ahead, the CBRE report said inflationary pressures are widely expected to abate in 2023. "This, alongside the resolution of supply chain disruptions and more active policy intervention from the government, might limit hikes in material prices," it said. The outlook for construction costs remains stable but cautious as market volatility is likely to persist in 2023 along with monetary tightening, continued high inflation, a possibility of a recession in developed economies and geopolitical turmoil-related challenges. CBRE report forecasts a marginal rise in the overall construction costs during 2023 across cities, with Mumbai likely to witness a sharper rise. Fuel price volatility may also impact the overall input costs in 2023. "Despite supply constraints, the demand side of the equation is bolstered this year by rental increases and market demand. Construction demand is likely to remain strong in the near term. We expect a comparatively stable outlook for the <keyword id="3658" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="india" source="Orion">India</keyword>n economy with the possibility of potential economic slowdown; however, considerable pent-up demand for new construction--including government infrastructure projects--should largely sustain construction activity in India," said Anshuman Magazine, Chairman and CEO - India, South-East Asia, <keyword id="30350" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="middle-east" source="Orion">Middle East</keyword> and <keyword id="12925" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="africa" source="Orion">Africa</keyword> of CBRE. The technology promises to give soldiers increased situational awareness on the battlefield, as well as easy access to important intelligence.
Allen McDuffee, of <a href="http://www.wired.com/dangerroom/2014/02/battlefield-glass/">Wired</a>, writes:
With a high-resolution transparent display, Q-Warrior overlays data and a video stream over the soldier's view of the world. Q-Warrior also includes enhanced night vision, waypoints and routing information, and the ability to identify hostile and non-hostile forces, track personnel and assets, and coordinate small unit actions.
Hypothetically, the Q-Warrior should eliminate friendly fire and civilian casualties since it will help soldiers better coordinate in hectic scenarios.
The technology will first be given to nontraditional military units, likely in reconnaissance or counterterrorism roles. If the technology works well in the field, Q-Warrior's scope could then be broadened to more lightly armored soldiers such as airborne forces or Marines. 
"The biggest demand, in the short term at least, will be in roles where the early adoption of situational awareness technology offers a defined advantage," Paul Wright, the Soldier Systems' Business Development Lead at BAE Systems' Electronic Systems, <a href="http://www.baesystems.com/article/BAES_165373/worlds-first-head-up-display-for-soldier-in-field-testing?baeSessionId=xj2BTNzbfFn8MZ2SBfNySFnt6gnykqZMmn2YY2yfmcLyYhkQY9yD!1081670363&amp;_adf.ctrl-state=1co9y2v51_4&amp;_afrLoop=456239474045000&amp;_afrWindowMode=0&amp;_afrWindowId=1co9y2v51_1#%40%3F_afrWindowId%3D1co9y2v51_1%26baeSessionId%3Dxj2BTNzbfFn8MZ2SBfNySFnt6gnykqZMmn2YY2yfmcLyYhkQY9yD%25211081670363%26_afrLoop%3D456239474045000%26_afrWindowMode%3D0%26_adf.ctrl-state%3D8lkuc6sno_4">said in a press release</a>. 
In the long term, the Q-Warrior project could even merge with the <a href="http://www.army.mil/article/104229/Army_explores_futuristic_uniform_for_SOCOM/">Military's TALOS "Iron Man</a>" project, which is entering the prototype phase. TALOS aims to provide soldiers with a small-arms fire-resistant suit along with enhanced situational awareness.

It missed revenue expectations badly, and the stock immediately dropped 4%.
The main problem is that traffic is down and display advertising revenues went with it.
Some thought search, CEO Marissa Mayer's expertise, would bail Yahoo out this quarter.
It did not.
The numbers:

<li>Adjusted EPS: $0.38 versus $0.24 expected.</li>
<li>Revenues Ex-TAC: $1.07 billion versus $1.10 billion expected.</li>
<li>Display revenues ex-TAC came in at $402 million, an 11% decrease versus the same quarter a year ago. That's below Anmuth's projection of $416 million.</li>
<li>Search revenues ex-TAC came in at $409 million, for a 6% y/y increase. That's less than the $432 million predicted by JP Morgan analyst Doug Anmuth.</li>
<li>Bloomberg's Jon Erlichman reports: "paid clicks rose 16%, while price per click declined 7%"</li>
<li>Yahoo is projecting Q2 revenues ex-TAC to be $1.06 billion to $1.09 billion, lower than the consensus estimate of $1.11 billion.</li>
