Section 144 imposed in Mumbai till July 15 to curb spread of coronavirus

All shops and business establishments were directed to be closed from 9 pm on Tuesday to 6 am on Thursday. She said in a release that the IMD had warned of possible impact of cyclone 'Nivar' along the coastline of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. Puducherry is expected to be 'severely impacted' by the cyclone and there was a <keyword id="2358452" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="grave-danger">grave danger</keyword> to life, health and safety of the public because of the cyclone predicted. Cyclone Nivar: Prohibitory orders clamped in Puducherry to restrict movement of people

Itanagar, Apr 7 () The Capital Complexadministration in Arunachal Pradesh has imposed prohibitoryorder under section 144 CrPC on movement of people fromTuesday evening till April 14.The order was issued on Monday evening by CapitalComplex Deputy Commissioner Komar Dolom as people haveconsiderably violated the protocol of total lockdown on theground.The prohibitory order would be effective until April14, in addition to the already existing regulatory orderissued earlier for the lockdown, the DC said in his order."Assembly of more than 3 persons will not be allowedexcept for medical purpose in lifting of patients and thepublic have been advised to remain indoors," the order said,adding people sitting outside their building premises andwalking in the streets are strictly prohibited during theenforcement of the prohibitory order. The capital complex comprises of areas underItanagar, Naharlagun, Nirjuli and Banderdewa."The order has been imposed to regulate theunnecessary movement of pedestrians and vehicles and tomitigate the spread of COVID-19," it said. Aizawl, May 4 () The Mizoram government haspromulgated an ordinance that seeks to punish people violatingprohibitory orders during the lockdown, officials said onMonday.The ordinance for Containment and Prevention ofCOVID-19 was published on the official gazette on Sundaynight.It said that any person, who exposes the identity ofCovid-19 patients in print, electronic or social media withoutprior permission from competent authority will be punishedwith imprisonment of 3 months or with a fine up to Rs 5,000 orboth.The order said Rs 5,000 fine will be imposed onpeople, who cross border or enter the state, or organizesocial or religious event without permission or escape fromquarantine facility.The government will also impose a fine of Rs 300 forspitting in public places, Rs 200 for failing to maintainsocial distancing protocol and Rs 100 for failing to wear maskin public place.The Ordinance for Containment and Prevention ofCOVID-19 was approved by the state cabinet on Saturday.The ordinance seeks to punish a person for failing tocomply with any other instruction or guidelines issued by theCentre or state government, including lockdown guidelinesissued from time to time with a fine amounting to Rs 1,000.It said that a fine of Rs 500 will be slapped againstthose, who fail to comply with instruction or guidelines andendangering the safety of others while staying at designationquarantine facility.The state government also on Monday set up a committeeheaded by the finance commissioner to study the financialimpact of Covid-19 in the state. Mumbai, May 4 () Prohibitory orders banningassembly of four or more people under section 144 of theCriminal Procedure Code (CrPC) have been extended in Mumbaiuntil May 17 in view of the extension of the coronavirus-induced lockdown, a police official said on Monday.Mumbai has been declared as the red zone due to highnumber of coronavirus cases."We have extended section 144 of CrPC which restrictsany public gathering," he said quoting an official order.The official said residents are allowed to step out oftheir houses to buy essential commodities between 7 am and 8pm, but will have to follow social distancing norms.Violators will be prosecuted under section 188(Disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant)of the Indian Penal Code, he added.Mumbai has so far reported 8,613 COVID-19 cases and343 deaths, a BMC official had said on Sunday. Lockdown 3.0:Prohibitory orders extended in Mumbai till May 17

Srinagar, Apr 13 () Twelve people were arrested in Jammu and Kashmir's Ganderbal district on Monday for violating prohibitory orders imposed to contain the spread of coronavirus, police said here. The arrests were made in the Lar area of the central Kashmir district, they said.A case has been registered and further investigation into the matter has been initiated, a police officer said.Meanwhile, the authorities in Pulwama district of south Kashmir booked eight people for violating quarantine laws by escaping from 'Red Zone' areas, the official said.It was reported that eight people had fled from Parigam and Qazigund villages of Pulwama which were declared 'red zones' a few days ago and were staying at the house of Mohammad Sahaban Sheikh in Amirabad Tral, he added.The officer said that the district administration traced all of them and placed them in quarantine at Hamdard Grammar School in Tral.All eight were booked under sections 269 (unlawfully or negligently doing something which is likely to spread infection of any dangerous disease to life), 270 (malignant act likely to spread infection of dangerous disease to life), 271 (knowingly disobeying any quarantine rule) and 188 (for disobeying any government orders) of the IPC, he said.The Pulwama district magistrate has warned violators of stern action, he added. New Delhi, Mar 22 () The Confederation of Indian Industry has urged the government to exempt services such as e-commerce including delivery boys and supply chain vendors, food processing warehousing and IT-ITeS from the imposition of section 144 and other similar directives amid the coronavirus outbreak. The appeal gains significance as more and more states are imposing lockdowns with the spread of coronavirus. "For safeguarding the uninterrupted supply of consumer items in the market, CII urges the government to keep the manufacturing facilities of the food processing industry open under the strictest of safety and hygiene guidelines," Chandrajit Banerjee, Director General, CII, said. He also added that any executive order or section 144 restrictions should include the exemption for these manufacturing facilities and food delivery services. RSN HRS

New Delhi, Mar 20 () The Centre on Friday asked states to allow e-tailers, wholesalers and delivery partners to operate even where Section 144 been imposed amid the coronavirus outbreak. An order in this regard was issued by the union consumer affairs ministry after discussing the matter in detail in an inter-ministerial meeting held here. Several state governments have imposed prohibitory orders like Section 144 and mandated closure of malls and shopping places in order to ensure social distancing in the wake of rising Covid-19 cases. To ensure there is no disruption of supply of essential commodities, the ministry has advised state governments and local administration to "exempt e-commerce operations (warehouse and logistics facilities and services), wholesalers, their vendors and third party delivery partners who are part of the supply and logistic chain eco-system, from any type of prohibitory orders." These business players are requested to maintain proper hygiene and sanitisation in their facility and vehicles. Coronavirus: Centre asks states to exempt e-tailers, wholesalers from prohibitory orders

Mumbai, Apr 29 () Cases have been registeredagainst more than 10,400 persons in Mumbai for allegedviolation of prohibitory orders during the lockdown, anofficial said on Wednesday.As many as 5,456 offences were registered in the cityin this connection, he said."With an aim to contain the spread of coronavirus,police have been taking action under IPC section 188(disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) andother relevant sections since March 22," the official said."So far, police have registered offences against10,408 people for violation of the prohibitory orders duringthe lockdown. Of them 6,513 people were arrested and laterreleased on bail," he said.At least 2,661 accused were allowed to go afternotices were served to them, whereas 1,234 persons areabsconding, he said.The city police have registered cases against 1,812persons for not wearing masks while stepping out of themhomes, he said.Of the total number of cases, 3,646 were registeredfor unlawful assembly at public places. Srinagar, Apr 15 () Police on Wednesday arrested 41 persons in Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara district for violating prohibitory orders imposed to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus.The arrests were made in Handwara area of the north Kashmir district, a police spokesman said.Besides the arrests, eight shops have been sealed and three vehicles seized, he said.Cases under relevant sections of the law were registered against them and further investigations have been taken up.The spokesman requested the general public to follow the restrictions imposed by the government to prevent the spread of COVID-19. 41 arrested in J-K's Kupwara district for violating lockdown orders

Noida (UP), May 18 () Seven people were arrested and challans issued to owners of 223 vehicles for allegedly defying lockdown norms in Gautam Buddh Nagar on Monday, officials said. They said Noida's border with Delhi shall remain sealed until further orders.Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) Section 144 is in force in Gautam Buddh Nagar, which falls in the 'Red Zone' for COVID-19, even as lockdown restrictions continue due to the pandemic, prohibiting normal movement in this district in western UP adjoining Delhi."One FIR was registered on Monday for lockdown violations and seven people arrested. New Delhi, Mar 22 () Online grocery platform Grofers said many of its delivery persons were stopped and arrested on Sunday even as e-commerce firms were to be exempted during 'Janta Curfew' announced to combat the spread on coronavirus in the country. The company said these developments had led to a delay in the delivery of almost 20,000 orders countrywide. Albinder Dhindsa, co-founder and the CEO of Grofers, said as per the directive of the central government, the company continued to provide essential goods to customers across the country on the day of Janta Curfew. "State Government and local administration are advised to exempt e-commerce operations (warehousing &amp; logistics facilities and services), wholesaler, their vendors &amp; third party delivery partners who are a part of the supply and logistics chain ecosystem, from any type of prohibitory orders etc," he added. Dhindsa said that "due to some confusion regarding the services exempted", many of its delivery riders were stopped and arrested that led to a delay in the delivery of almost 20,000 orders countrywide. "This does not only affect the morale of the delivery staff who are working selflessly to support people but is also causing inconvenience to many customers who are relying highly on our services," he said.
