Capital market analysts said <keyword id="19935977" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="insurance-companies" source="keywords">insurance companies</keyword> make money in two ways - charging premiums for policies and then investing the premiums into assets. It is the latter that generates the bigger delta in profits, thus impacting value creation and managing risks. Global majors, including Warren Buffet-owned Berkshire Hathaway, have been successful due to their ability to make superior investments. Most Indian insurance companies are yet to capitalise on the emergence of the country's <keyword id="19997284" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="infrastructure-sector" source="keywords">infrastructure sector</keyword>, analysts said. Indian insurance companies have concentrated investments in the BFSI, IT, and consumer sectors - all of which have been underperformers in the recent past. Only 8-10% of their investments are in the infrastructure sector. This is far less when compared to global standards. Large global insurance companies -- such as Allianz, Nippon Life Insurance, and Metlife, and other insurers like Berkshire Hathaway -- have much larger exposure ranging from 15 to 30% to the infrastructure sector, analysts noted. Over the past few years, global insurers have been increasingly considering infrastructure investments as 'core' investments as the stable and long-term cash flows of infrastructure assets naturally align with the liabilities of insurers. Additionally, infrastructure assets have defensive characteristics of high barriers to entry, strong pricing power, structural growth, and predictive cash flows, and listed infrastructure can provide investors with inflation-protected income and solid capital growth. <h2>Infra sector outperforming all</h2>For India, a strong government focus on the sector with large spending, supporting initiatives and encouraging policies, and improving governance has helped the infrastructure industry has come of age. This has helped the infra sector to outperform all other sectors, according to analysts. They said the high focus on retail loans, and the strategic reluctance to look at infrastructure for growth opportunities is proving detrimental for the shareholders of such companies. The influencers behind it have built a brand off of their flashy lifestyles — private jets, supercars, luxury watches, and endless vacations — and the alluring idea that anyone can "make money anywhere in the world, by doing one simple action... connecting to WiFi."Beyond dropshipping, it pitched cryptocurrency, real estate, business bootcamps, and investments related to the Employee Retention Credit, a pandemic-era tax credit that has been <a target="_blank" href="https://www.foxrothschild.com/publications/irs-increases-pressure-on-businesses-that-claimed-employee-retention-tax-credits">susceptible to alleged scams</a>, according to the <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/dont-fall-for-employee-retention-credit-scams-youtube-video-text-script">IRS</a>.Along the way, the group has been accused of fraud numerous times, including in an ongoing lawsuit in Florida involving more than 30 disgruntled former investors. Nearly 100 complaints have been lodged with the FTC about WiFi Money and two of its partner companies, BI previously reported."WiFi Money has made a multitude of its customers prosperous, particularly during the pandemic, as well as afterwards, despite ever-shifting economic winds," the company's attorney, James Ragano, said in a statement in May. This person "misrepresented her own success and finances, flaunting a high-end and wealthy persona online to mislead consumers," the office of Michael Hilgers, Nebraska's AG, wrote in the complaint."After taking money from Nebraska consumers, Defendants spent the funds on luxury vacations in exotic locales, Lamborghinis, Cadillac Escalades, and other high-end vehicles, multi- million-dollar mansions, jewelry, designer clothing, private airplanes, a lakehouse, and countless other extravagances. Defendants then used their lavish lifestyles to lure more consumers into the scheme," according to the Nebraska AG suit.WiFi Money has also grappled with another legal matter this year: Its private jet. WiFi Money sued by Nebraska Attorney General over allegations of 'deceptive' passive income promises

New Delhi, <keyword id="47209" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="finance-ministry" source="Orion">Finance Ministry</keyword> would consider capital infusion in three loss-making public sector general insurance companies based on their financial performance of nine months. The infusion if required would be made in the fourth quarter of the current financial year, sources said. According to sources, the finance ministry last year asked three insurers -- National Insurance Company Limited, <keyword id="94451" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="oriental-insurance-company-limited" source="Orion">Oriental Insurance Company Limited</keyword> and <keyword id="356117" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="united-india-insurance-company" source="Orion">United India Insurance Company</keyword> -- to chase bottomlines rather than topline and underwrite only good proposals. The financial review would give some idea about the impact of restructuring initiated on the profitability numbers and the solvency margin, sources said. The solvency margin is the extra capital the companies must hold over and above the claim amounts they are likely to incur. It acts as a financial backup in extreme situations, enabling the company to settle all claims. The government last year provided Rs 5,000 crore capital to three insurers -- National Insurance Company Limited, Oriental Insurance Company Limited and United India Insurance Company. Kolkata-based National Insurance Company Limited was given the highest, Rs 3,700 crore, followed by Delhi-based Oriental Insurance Company Limited (Rs 1,200 crore) and Chennai-based United India Insurance Company (Rs 100 crore). According to sources these companies have been asked to improve their solvency ratio and meet the regulatory requirement of 150 per cent. The solvency ratio is a measure of capital adequacy. A higher ratio reflects better financial health and the ability of the company to pay claims and meet future contingencies and business growth plans. Barring the solvency ratio of <keyword id="6369780" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="new-india-assurance" source="Orion">New India Assurance</keyword>, this key indicator of the three public sector general insurance companies stood below the regulatory requirement of 150 per cent. During 2019-20, the government infused Rs 2,500 crore in these three companies. It increased substantially to Rs 9,950 crore in the following year and Rs 5,000 crore in 2021-22. In all, the government infused Rs 17,450 crore into these insurance firms so far to improve their financial health. Public sector general insurance companies are undergoing various reforms, including organisational restructuring, product rationalisation, cost rationalisation and digitalisation. For efficient use of capital and to push profitable growth, the sources said, a set of key performance indicators linked reforms have been initiated by all public sector general insurance companies effective 2020-21, when the maximum capital infusion was made. Of the four state-run general insurance companies only New India Assurance Company is listed on the stock exchanges, the remaining three are wholly owned by the government. The government has already announced its intention to privatise one general insurance company. To facilitate privatisation, Parliament has already approved amendments to the General Insurance Business (Nationalisation) Act (GIBNA). Finance Minister <keyword id="129243" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="nirmala-sitharaman" source="Orion">Nirmala Sitharaman</keyword> in the Budget 2021-22 announced a big-ticket privatisation agenda, which included two public sector banks and one general insurance company. "We propose to take up the privatisation of two public sector Banks and one general insurance company in the year 2021-22. This would require legislative amendments," she had said.

Goyal goes a step ahead, and advocates for creating a separate exemption limit for insurance premiums, in addition to the existing threshold of Rs 1,50,000. "Right now, Indians get a tax exemption of Rs 1.5 lakh every year, but it's crowded with various financial products. We would expect the limit to increase or to establish a separate exemption limit specifically for life insurance premiums. This move would help increase countrywide insurance penetration", says Goyal. Krishnan Ramachandran, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (MD&amp;CEO) of Niva Bupa Health Insurance also advocates for the 80D tax exemption to be linked to inflation and revised periodically. Also, per him, tax exemptions should also extend to dependent family members like siblings. Syed Meraj Naqvi,CEO &amp; Principal Officer, Riskbirbal Insurance Brokers also thinks on similar lines. "Adding a portion of medical insurance premiums for tax relief alongside the current 1,50,000 deduction limit would not only ease financial burdens but also encourage the younger generation to embrace saving habits. It’s about nurturing a mindset of financial responsibility while ensuring adequate healthcare coverage for all", he notes. Parimal Heda, Chief Investment Officer, Go Digit General Insurance believes that a good way to increase insurance coverage amongst young individuals is by offering a significant tax discount. "This could also be considered particularly for first-time health insurance buyers, especially youngsters. A tax exemption of 200% of the premium amount can be considered under chapter VIA. This can later be reduced in a phased manner of four years to make the same at par with the existing tax benefit provided under Section 80D", Heda observes. <h2>Don't overlook home, vehicle insurance </h2>Even though motor insurance, which makes up for around 50% of the non-life insurance industry (sans health) grew at around 12.9% in FY24, touching Rs 91,781.3 crore, over 50% of vehicles don’t even have a third-party (TP) motor insurance. To counter this, Heda suggests a one-time tax exemption can be offered to people to renew their lapsed TP policy. Additionally, given the increasing frequency of natural calamities adversely impacting human property, it is necessary to increase home insurance penetration to protect homeowners. Per Heda, the government, with the help of RERA can make home insurance mandatory for new homeowners, for which a tax deduction of up to Rs 25,000 can also be considered on home insurance premiums. However, a word of advice. Do not wait for tax breaks, or budget announcements to buy a life, or health insurance in case you already don't have one. Get one right away!

We've asked each of the featured companies to tell us about the problems they're trying to solve with AI, who's making these decisions internally, and their vision for using AI in the future.Salesforce is best known for its customer-relations-management software, which it says is used by over 150,000 companies, including Amazon and Walmart. It also owns Slack, a popular communication platform.The company is expanding the availability and capabilities of its <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/salesforce-ceo-marc-benioff-says-new-focus-on-ai-agents-2024-9">AI agents with Agentforce</a>, a platform that helps Salesforce clients build and deploy agents to automate tasks such as generating written reports from sales data and creating summaries of conversations in Slack.<h2 id="68b90c5d-18fe-403b-bd1d-9eb93eab0695">Situation analysis: What problem were they trying to solve?</h2>AI agents aren't new to Salesforce. In 2016, the company <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/more-details-about-salesforce-einstein-2016-9">released Einstein</a>, an AI service for its CRM software. Einstein handled some of the tasks Agentforce can tackle, but the actions it could take were more scripted.With the arrival and rapid progress of generative-AI models, Salesforce saw an opportunity to improve agents' decision-making and understanding of natural language inputs, like email.That initially led to Einstein GPT, a generative-AI overhaul of Einstein. Then it evolved into Einstein Copilot, announced in early 2024. Now it's called Agentforce, which offers prebuilt and customizable agents."We had to recognize that our customers want to either extend the agents that we ship or they want to build their own customer agents," Tyler Carlson, Salesforce's vice president of business development, told Business Insider.<h2 id="2ba2ccfb-6dbf-46ab-848b-5578f676962f">Key staff and partners</h2>Agentforce's core technology, which Salesforce calls the Atlas Reasoning Engine, was developed by the company's engineering team. Salesforce also allows its clients to access AI models from third-party technology partners including OpenAI, Anthropic, Amazon, and Google.Salesforce has worked with internal and external partners to showcase its AI agents. The company uses Slack to spotlight AI agents that can be accessed directly from the communication platform. (Currently, Agentforce's integration in Slack is in beta.)"The reason Slack is interesting for these employee-facing agents is that it surfaces these automations and capabilities to users where they're spending their time," Carlson said.<div type="image" title="Tyler Carlson headshot" height="640" width="640" msid="115192386" hostid="261" sizebytes="19750"></div><h2 id="5811f14e-6416-45e5-8f7e-d703b210910b">AI in action</h2>Salesforce says the Atlas Reasoning Engine uses what's known as <a target="_blank" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2210.03629">ReAct prompting</a> to help agents reason through problems.ReAct helps an AI agent powered by a large language model break down a problem into its components and then provide steps to solve it. After each action, the AI agent evaluates the result to judge whether it has satisfied the user's prompt. If not, the agent loops through different reasoning and action steps until it reaches a satisfactory result.Salesforce says this can lead to fully autonomous agents that offer personalized support based on a user's specific inquiry and take action — like scheduling an appointment or meeting — without human intervention.The concept is similar to OpenAI's new o1 model, which uses the <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/sam-altman-openai-new-o1-model-capabilities-agi-2024-9">chain-of-thought prompting technique</a> to work through prompts step-by-step.The Atlas Reasoning Engine is proprietary technology built by Salesforce, and it has access to the company's internally developed LLMs. But it's also designed to work with LLMs provided by partners — the company expects many agents will take advantage of that capability."This is what I find most interesting about agentic systems," Carlson said. "They're not monolithic. They're not a single LLM."Allowing access to third-party LLMs can be risky because it means <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/cyber-insurance-coverage-plan-benefits-costs">passing data to an outside vendor</a>. To address this, Salesforce instituted a policy that prohibits data retention. It also provides safeguards designed to identify and reject inappropriate responses to prompts.Salesforce's clients can also use a tool called Agentbuilder to create and deploy custom Agentforce agents that can act on triggers, such as receiving an email or making a sale, without a direct prompt from a company's employees. An automated agent might open messages from a general email inbox and forward them to specific departments based on the agent's understanding of the message's intent.Agentforce also uses <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/retrieval-augmented-generation-making-ai-language-models-better-2024-5">retrieval-augmented generation</a> to create agents that can answer questions based on a company's internal documents and private data. For example, this year Salesforce and Workday created an "AI employee service agent" designed to answer employee questions about a company's HR policies.<h2 id="31002808-8cdf-4bbd-a666-7e22bd1e3fdb">Did it work, and how did they know?</h2>Carlson said Salesforce measured the success of its software by the success of its clients, adding that the results so far had been positive. "That includes promising statistics, like seeing 90% of customer inquiries resolved by an agent," he said.Salesforce will also judge its success by Agentforce's adoption as a platform. The company wants to see clients broadly adopt AI agents designed with Agentbuilder and deploy them within their CRM systems and in Slack. It also wants to see the new AI agents take on larger caseloads and resolve interactions to satisfy clients and customers."By next year I want to see a larger and more open ecosystem of partners," Carlson said. "I want Agentforce to have thousands upon thousands of agent skills, topics, and a lot more that our customers can take advantage of."

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Climate change is increasing the severity of natural disasters — and home insurance prices.</li><li>For those moving to a climate-risk state, there are some steps you can take to protect your home.</li></ul>Finding an affordable home in a red-hot real estate market is already a tremendous feat.And now, in addition to rapidly rising prices, home buyers are increasingly worried about another factor: climate change.According to Zillow, more than 80% of home buyers considered climate risks — including flood, wildfire, and hurricane — when shopping for a house.In particular, climate change complicates the homebuying process by sending <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/climate-change-homeowners-insurance-premium-costs-crisis-skyrocketing-states-hurricanes-2024-10">home insurance premiums skyrocketing</a>. As storms and other natural disasters become more destructive, home insurance providers are raising rates or pulling out of certain states altogether, according to insurance company Insurify.According to Holden Lewis, a home insurance expert at NerdWallet, climate change is hitting states such as California, Florida, North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, and Nebraska the hardest — and wildly disrupting these states' home insurance markets.If you're looking to purchase a house in these high-risk markets, here's what you need to know about rapidly rising home insurance rates.<h2 id="4ca151ec-b6df-44db-821b-3b925503bc08">How to navigate the insurance landscape when moving</h2>As climate change exacerbates the frequency and severity of natural disasters, homes are at higher risk of damage. Insurance companies in turn are raising prices to cover the higher costs of covering claims and reinsurance, or insurance for insurance companies.According to financial data firm Bankrate, the national average cost of home insurance is $2,285 a year for up to $300,000 of dwelling coverage. But in high climate-risk states such as Nebraska, Florida, and Oklahoma, average annual premiums range from $4,835 to $5,655.It might seem obvious, one step homebuyers can take to avoid surprises is consider home insurance costs early in the homebuying process, Lewis said. As insurance premiums increase, they can materially impact your monthly housing payments and push a home out of your affordability zone.Prospective buyers shopping for homes in a new state are especially prone to insurance sticker shock, according to Lewis. For example, if you're thinking of moving from Ohio to Texas, you might not be aware that the average homeowners insurance rate in cyclone-prone Texas is $3,916 a year — $2,600 more than in Ohio, Lewis pointed out.Still, climate-risk states remain popular. According to <a target="_blank" href="https://www.uhaul.com/Articles/About/U-Haul-Announces-Top-Growth-States-Of-2023-30660/">U-Haul</a>, Texas and Florida received the highest influx of new residents in 2023.Many of these newcomers might not have done their homework on the home insurance market before moving to the state, according to Stephanie L., homeowner and lifelong Florida resident who asked not to use her full last name for privacy reasons.There's a lack of consumer awareness of the financial risk extreme weather brings, in Stephanie's opinion. "If you purchase a beautiful home on a river, you have to understand that with the way storms come in, you could be at risk," Stephanie told Business Insider in an interview.Even within climate-risk states, you can minimize your home's exposure to extreme weather and bring down insurance premiums by researching the local neighborhood.When Stephanie bought her house, she picked a location in the Jacksonville metropolitan area, which has less exposure to hurricane risk than other areas of the Sunshine state."We definitely looked for high and dry, not in a flood zone, and not in a hurricane evacuation zone," Stephanie said.Indeed, Jacksonville home insurance premiums are significantly lower than Florida's state average of $5,527, with homeowners paying an average of $2,705 a year for insurance according to Bankrate.Next, when it comes by a natural disaster, you want to ensure that the insurance policy can fully cover rebuilding costs. Many policies offer dwelling coverage limits in line with the market value of the house, but that's not always sufficient coverage, according to Lewis."The market value of the house the day before a fire or storm might be less than the actual cost to rebuild it to current building codes," Lewis said.For prospective homebuyers, Lewis recommends clarifying the dwelling coverage limit with the insurance agent and shopping around for available policies.Also important to note is that flood coverage often isn't included in standard homeowners insurance policies. This is an important consideration if you're looking to buy a house in an area prone to hurricanes."If water is rising, say from a river, or storm surge, then a standard homeowners policy will not cover that damage," Lewis said.Stephanie purchased flood insurance in addition to her regular homeowners insurance when she purchased a home."I also have a separate flood policy even though I'm not in a floodplain," she said. "When you're not in a flood zone, flood insurance is pretty affordable."Although Stephanie isn't at high risk for flooding, she still wants to be prepared for the worst. It's not a bad idea to go the extra mile and purchase extra insurance when it comes to buying a home in Florida, even if you're not directly in a flood zone.In addition to hurricane-prone Gulf Coast states, regions like western North Carolina, eastern Tennessee, and southern Virginia are flooding hotspots, according to Lewis.Lastly, homeowners also should consider how inflation will drive up home insurance costs, especially as concerns over inflation loom high in today's economy. An inflationary environment will increase the cost of building materials and construction, Lewis pointed out.As a result, it may be a good idea to review your coverage every year or two to evaluate the status of your coverage, Lewis said."Talk to the agent, maybe even talk to a general contractor just to find out, 'Hey, am I still covered? Do I still have enough coverage to pay to rebuild this home?'" Lewis suggested.For those considering buying a home in a state with high levels of climate risk, taking these precautions during the homebuying process can help you protect your investment.
