The share of the Indian subsidiary of South Korean automobile behemoth is listed at Rs 1,934 on the NSE, at a discount of 1.33% to its issue price of Rs 1,960. On the other hand, the share is listed at a discount of 1.48% to the issue price on the BSE.<br /><br />The IPO, touted to be India's biggest ever, was entirely an OFS (<keyword id="20209731" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="offer-for-sale" source="keywords">offer for sale</keyword>) worth Rs 27,870.16 crore and had set a price band of Rs 1,865 to Rs 1,960. As of 10:45 am today, the share was trading at Rs 1,907 on the NSE. On the BSE, the share was also trading at Rs 1,906, down by around 2.72%.<br /><br />The stock debuted on NSE at a price of Rs 1,934, before briefly inching up to its intra-day high of Rs 1,970. As of 10:50 am, the stock's intra-day low stands at Rs 1,844.65.<br /><br />With a <keyword id="19932516" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="market-cap" source="keywords">market cap</keyword> of Rs 1,51,376.41 crore, Hyundai Motors India (HMI) had opened for subscription between October 15th and 17th, 2024. Post this, the promoter's shareholding in the company has come down to 82.5%. The issue saw muted participation from <keyword id="19972907" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="retail-investors" source="keywords">retail investors</keyword>, who subscribed 0.5x times to the IPO. However, QIBs (<keyword id="20240741" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="qualified-institutional-buyers" source="keywords">qualified institutional buyers</keyword>) had oversubscribed nearly 700% to the IPO.<br /><br />The company's GMP (<keyword id="19905703" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="grey-market-premium" source="keywords">grey market premium</keyword>) in the unofficial markets, as of this morning, was at Rs 48, which translates to the markets anticipating a potential listing gain of 2.45% per share. However, with a discounted listing, the stock continues to extend losses.<br /><br /> <h2>Brokerages initiate buy coverage</h2> Experts are currently wary of the auto sector, given the ongoing slowdown in the passenger vehicle (PV) space, even as India approaches the festive season. Data from SIAM (Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers) noted that during the first half of FY25, PV sales grew at a minimal 0.5%, much lower than the projected growth of 3-4%.<br /><br />Most automakers have forecast muted sales growth for the upcoming quarter as well, which has further dampened investor sentiment in this space. Even Hyundai had reported an 8% decrease in domestic PV dispatches made in August 2024, compared to the year-ago period. <br /><br />Brokerage firm Motilal Oswal initiated coverage on Hyundai Motors India with a "buy" tag. It noted that Hyundai has a robust, well-established PV ecosystem in India to its advantage, apart from having strong backing from the parent company.<br /><br />"We hence assign a 27x one-year FWD  multiple to HMI, relative to our target multiple of 26x currently assigned to Maruti Suzuki. Therefore, we arrive at our target price of Rs 2,345 for Hyundai Motors India, based on 27x Sep’26E earnings. We initiate coverage on Hyundai Motors India with a buy rating," the broking added.<br /><br />Macquarie also initiated coverage of Hyundai Motor India at a target price of Rs 2,235, implying a 14% upside to the issue price. Per the firm, "HMIL deserves to trade at a premium PE multiple versus peers due to its favorable portfolio mix and premium positioning."<br /><br />Nomura initiated coverage with buy rating and target price of Rs 2,472, based on FY27F EPS. "We estimate HMI to deliver about 8% volume CAGR over FY25-27F driven by 7-8 new models (including facelifts) and its EBITDA margins to improve to 14% by FY27F from 13.1% in FY24. We believe this will be led by improving mix, cost reduction and operating leverage. Overall, we estimate HMI to deliver about 17% earnings CAGR over FY25-27F," it added.<br /><br />As research firm Master Capital Services Ltd notes, with an improved market share in key segments due to a favorable product mix, the brand has the potential for further growth. "Investors with a long-term perspective could consider holding the stock, as future performance will most likely be driven by the company's competitive market position and product enhancements," it explained.  <br /><br />

First off, this IPO, seen as the mother of all IPOs in Indian history, is entirely an <keyword id="19951016" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="OFS" source="keywords">OFS</keyword> (offer for sale). This means that there is no fresh issue here, and all the funds raised will be directed towards the company's South Korea-based promoters, who are offloading their stakes in this IPO. Even Hyundai's Indian entity will not receive any proceeds from this issue. <br /><br />As such, investors are on tenterhooks, given that an IPO of such magnitude can suck away significant liquidity from Indian markets. <br /><br />Secondly, things don't really look bright for automobile sales in the country at the moment, even as we step into the festive season. Recent data from SIAM (Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers) shows that sales of passenger vehicles (PV) are in a freefall. <br /><br />The domestic PV sales dipped by 1.4% YoY in September, down to 3,56,752 units. SIAM president has also noted that sales of passenger vehicles are set to remain below the 5% mark in FY24-25, indicating a damp season. <br /><br />Moreover, many believe that this IPO is on the expensive side, per its PE. Price to Earnings, or PE helps in judging whether any stock is overvalued or undervalued, as compared to its peers, and if its current price is commensurate its expected earnings growth.<br /><br />What is also noteworthy is that Hyundai India's current PE (price to earning) valuation, per its FY25 earnings is at 26x, which is higher than its listed peer Maruti Suzuki, which stands at 22x (per its FY25 earnings). In fact, Hyundai's PE is also higher than the industry's average PE of 24.41x.<br /><br />However, the company still presents an attractive investment opportunity in the long-run, says Gaurav Garg, research analyst at Lemonn Markets Desk, "Hyundai has showcased remarkable operational efficiency, sourcing about 90% of its parts locally. This has significantly contributed to its robust financial performance, highlighted by a revenue CAGR of 19.4% over FY21-24, and an impressive return on capital employed (RoCE) exceeding 50% in FY24. With strong financials and a diverse product lineup, Hyundai will make for good long-term investment, even if initial listing gains may be modest". <br /><br /><h2>Should I invest?</h2>If you are expecting heavy listing day gains, its possible you'd be disappointed, since the market is largely preparing for muted listing day gains. In the long run, it certainly is a good bet, but Amar Nandu, Research Analyst, SAMCO Securities believes that this IPO can be altogether avoided as well.<br /><br />"Due to the large size of the IPO—Rs. 27,870.16 crore, the largest to date—there is a high chance of allotment to most applicants, so post-issue demand for the shares is not expected to surge. Furthermore, the promoter is offering a 17.5% stake in the issue, and an additional 7.5% stake sale is anticipated within three years to meet regulatory requirements, which will create selling pressure. Considering these factors, investors may choose to avoid this IPO", he signs off. <br />

This is where the BenQ PD3225U shines, offering excellent colour reproduction and detailed images. The IPS Black panel helps in maintaing a good contrast ratio.<br /><br />The monitor offers high brightness, ensuring you don’t have to worry about visibility. The monitor is quite bright and I found myself using it mostly around the 50% mark.<br /><br />The screen is factory-calibrated for MacBook, allowing you to start using it immediately without worrying about colour calibration. It also offers an M-Book mode to sync the colour settings between your device and the monitor.<br /><br />BenQ has also offered the Hotkey Puck G2 with the monitor. This can be connected to the monitor and allows you to control the on-screen menu. This helps in boosting productivity as it allows you to easily switch between various modes and tools.<br /><br />The monitor also comes with dual 2.5W speakers. These are enough to watch a quick video, listen to music or just for notifications. While these are good to have, they are not a replacement for a pair of headphones. I have always preferred a monitor that has a speaker so that I don’t have to grab my headphones every time I want to listen to something.<br /><br /><h2>Verdict</h2>The BenQ PD3225U is an excellent option, especially for MacBook users looking for a reliable monitor. While the price may look on the higher side, it is relatively affordable when compared to the Apple Studio Display which starts at ₹1,59,900. Moreover, by the end of this century, the population of <keyword id="19894991" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="senior-citizens" source="keywords">senior citizens</keyword> in India will surpass the population of those aged under 14, as per a report by the United Nations Population Fund and the International Institute for Population Sciences.<br /><br />As such, with <keyword id="19955368" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="Budget-2024" source="keywords">budget 2024</keyword> looming on the horizon, what is it that this burgeoning section of our population wants? We take a look : <br /><br /><h2>Wish 1: Raise deduction threshold for <keyword id="22285655" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="mediclaim-premium" source="keywords">mediclaim premium</keyword></h2>At present, senior citizens (aged 60 and above) and super senior citizens (aged 80 and  above) can claim a deduction of up to Rs 50,000 on health insurance premiums they pay during the year. For those aged below 60, the annual deduction limit is of Rs 25,000. <br /><br />But, as Tarun Mathur, CBO, Policybazaar.com notes, "There’s a need for an increase in the tax deduction limit for health insurance premiums, to raise the same to Rs 50,000 for individuals, their spouses, and dependent children, and to Rs 1 lakh for senior citizen parents". <br /><br />With insurance regulator <keyword id="6361421" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="IRDA" source="Orion">IRDA</keyword> removing the age cap (which was previously 65 years) for buying new insurance policies, health insurance for senior citizens becomes far more accessible. Given that only 20% of India's population aged 60 have any kind of health insurance, a comprehensive insurance coverage with low tax liabilities becomes a necessity for our senior citizens.<br /><br />At present, the government is mulling extending the <keyword id="22285657" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ayushman-Bharat-Pradhan-Yojana" source="Orion">Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Yojana</keyword> to provide crucial, free healthcare support for India's senior citizens aged above 70. But only time, and July 22nd will tell. <br /><br /><h2>Wish 2: Offer similar tax benefits to pension products as NPS </h2>NPS, or <keyword id="475509" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="National-Pension-System" source="Orion">National Pension System</keyword> is a lucrative retirement planning scheme. And it comes with many tax benefits. For instance, if you withdraw up to 60% of your accumulated pension as lumpsum once you turn 60, your withdrawal is tax free.<br /> <br />Similarly, if any amount you receive from NPS is reinvested in the annuity plan, it remains tax exempt. However, income from annuities is taxed as per your regular income tax slab. And any early withdrawals that you make (before 60 years) will attract taxes. <br /><br />A standard deduction of Rs 50,000, or amount of annuity income (whichever is lower) can be claimed. But under regular annuities or pension products, senior citizens pay a 10% tax on total taxable income over Rs. 3 lakhs , Rs 20,000 + 20% over amount exceeding Rs 5 lakh, and Rs 1.2 lakh+ 30% on amount exceeding Rs 10 lakh. <br /><br />As Mathur notes, "Pension products like annuity plans should be given the same tax benefits as NPS, since the current taxation does not encourage investment in retirement planning. It’s also necessary to expand Section 80C deductions and add a dedicated category for term insurance because the existing limit of Rs. 1,50,000 is insufficient".<br /><br />Even retirement planner Sanjeev Dawar notes that income from annuities is a primary source of income for retirees. "As such, tax relief is expected since returns, although assured for life, are relatively low. Moreover, they remain fixed and have no sensitivity to inflation". <br /><br />Additionally, Dawar also advocates for special financial considerations for eligible individuals who are compelled to stay in old-age homes in their twilight years. It is also needed that travel concessions, that have been withdrawn, are restarted".  <br /><br /><h2>Wish 3: Lowering lock-in periods for elderly </h2>Many schemes like national savings certificate (NSC), unit-linked insurance plans (ULIP) and senior citizen savings scheme (SCSS) are subject to tax deductions, provided they are redeemed after their specific <keyword id="20792448" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="lock-in-period" source="keywords">lock-in period</keyword>. For instance, tax-saver FDs, ULIPs and NSC have a lock-in period of 5 years, while equity-linked savings scheme (ELSS) have a lock-in period of 3 years. It would help senior citizens if this lock-in period is reduced, so that they have some liquidity and cash handy during medical or other such emergencies. Additionally, withdrawals should be allowed within lock-in period sans hefty penalties, as is the case right now. <br /><br /><h2>Wish 4: Lowering GST on health insurance premiums </h2>Currently, GST on health insurance premium is payable at 18%, which can translate into a hefty levy, especially since senior citizens end up paying significantly higher premiums to get insurance coverage. For a premium of Rs 30,000, the GST could go as high as Rs 5,400. As per  Prasun Sikdar, MD &amp; CEO, Manipal Cigna Health Insurance, "lowering the GST burden on the health insurance premiums will be a huge respite for missing middle and senior citizens to get access to quality healthcare they need and help to significantly boost insurance penetration across India by driving affordability.”<br /><h2><br />Wish 5: Reduce tax on <keyword id="21695681" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="passive-income" source="keywords">passive income</keyword> sources for aged</h2>For most senior citizens, rental income from house, pension and other such passive sources turn into a major income avenue, once they retire from active employment. As such, these should be taxed at a lower slab, and not considered as regular salary. Or else, higher exemption limits should be introduced to allow them to save more. At present, the basic exemption limit for senior citizens between 60-80 years is Rs 3 lakh, while the exemption limit for citizens above 80 years is Rs 5 lakhs. Domestic firms will <keyword id="6356112" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="lease" source="Orion">lease</keyword> an estimated 60-65 million square feet of <keyword id="181150" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="office-space" source="Orion">office space</keyword> between 2024 and 2025, according to <keyword id="20060150" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="cbre" source="keywords">CBRE</keyword> South Asia's report, '<keyword id="19895063" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="india" source="keywords">India</keyword> Inc's Ascension - The Rise of Domestic Firms as an Office Demand Driver'.<br /><br />Domestic companies have been responsible for nearly 47 per cent of office leasing activity from 2022 to H1 2024, marking a departure from the traditional dominance of global corporations, particularly American firms.<br /><br />During 2022-2023, domestic firms experienced a 60 per cent surge in office space absorption compared to the pre-pandemic period of 2018-2019.<br /><br />Key occupier groups have secured significant spaces in prime locations across major cities, with <keyword id="19913115" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="delhi-ncr" source="keywords">Delhi-NCR</keyword> leading, followed by <keyword id="6354321" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="bengaluru" source="Orion">Bengaluru</keyword> and Mumbai.<br /><br />E-commerce and life sciences companies have driven occupancy in Bengaluru and Hyderabad, respectively, while Mumbai has captured a substantial 43 per cent share of domestic <keyword id="19910880" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="bfsi" source="keywords">BFSI</keyword> leasing, with strong contributions from Delhi-NCR and Chennai.<br /><br />The report attributes the robust growth of India's office market to several factors, including government initiatives like Make in India and the <keyword id="19952889" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="production-linked-incentive" source="keywords">Production Linked Incentive</keyword> (PLI) Scheme.<br /><br />These programs, along with increased domestic manufacturing, employment generation, and a well-capitalized banking sector, have created a supportive environment for business expansion.<br /><br />Other contributing factors include low corporate leverage ratios and improved access to capital, which have enhanced the investment capacity of Indian companies.<br /><br />India's talent pool, with approximately 2.5 million STEM graduates and a thriving start-up ecosystem featuring over 100 unicorns, has also been a major driver of growth.<br /><br />With over 38 sector skill councils, the government's focus on bridging the skill gap is preparing domestic firms for future demands, further bolstering the office leasing sector.<br /><br />Flexible space operators, technology, and BFSI sectors have emerged as the primary drivers of office leasing, collectively accounting for two-thirds of all domestic activity.<br /><br />The RCA sector, which includes legal, taxation, HR, and media services, is also playing a significant role in boosting domestic leasing. In its master circular dated 12th June, 2024, the insurance watchdog laid out a slew of customer-friendly directives for life insurance companies to follow with immediate effect. Read on to know all about how these new rules will impact you :<strong><br /></strong><cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Customer information sheet" comment="subhead" text="Customer information sheet"><span data-til="noop"><keyword id="22033784" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="customer-information-sheet" source="keywords">Customer information sheet</keyword></span></cmsannotation><br />Going ahead, all life insurance companies will have to mandatorily provide their policyholders with a CIS, or Customer Information Sheet. This will serve to explain to them the basic features of the policy in very simple terms, and will include essential details like sum assured, benefits, policy loan options, free-look period and procedures for making claims and redressing grievances.<br /><br />In addition, benefits payable to the policyholder if they survive the policy tenure (maturity benefits), upon death and surrender of policy should also be clearly spelt out. Along with this, the policyholders are also entitled to a customised illustration of how the policy will benefit them while they are being sold the policy. CIS should also be made available to the policyholder in their local language on request.<br /><cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Free-look and grace period" comment="subhead" text="Free-look and grace period"><span data-til="noop"><keyword id="22053620" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Free-look-and-Grace-Period" source="Orion">Free-look and grace period</keyword></span></cmsannotation> <br />Policyholders will now have a 30-day window from the day they receive the policy document to review and cancel the policy if they want. If the policy is cancelled within this period, they will be entitled to a full premium refund. Earlier, this period only lasted for 15 days. <br /><br />For grace period, which basically refers to the additional, penalty-free window given to the policyholder to make premium payment post due date to avoid losing coverage, the windows will differ depending on premium payment frequency. If you pay the policy premiums on a monthly basis, you will get a 15-day grace period. For premium payments made on a quarterly/half-yearly or annual basis, the grace period will be of 30 days.<br /><cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Penalty on violating Ombudsman’s word" comment="subhead" text="Penalty on violating Ombudsman’s word"><span data-til="noop">Penalty on violating Ombudsman’s word</span></cmsannotation> <br />The insurer is bound to comply with the <keyword id="960887" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Insurance-Ombudsman" source="Orion">Insurance Ombudsman</keyword>’s award within 30 days of receiving the same. In case the same is violated, the insurer will have to pay a penalty of Rs 5,000 per day to the complainant.<br /><cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Higher value on early policy surrender" comment="subhead" text="Higher value on early policy surrender"><span data-til="noop">Higher value on early policy surrender</span></cmsannotation> <br />Often, policyholders ended up with a low, negligible amount as refund upon surrendering their insurance policy. This is set to change with <keyword id="21879234" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="IRDA" source="keywords">IRDA</keyword>’s latest directives. Now, policyholders will be eligible for <keyword id="885219" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="surrender-value" source="Orion">surrender value</keyword> even if they decide to surrender their policy after just one year. <br /><br />Previously, only 50% of <keyword id="2939473" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="policy-premium" source="Orion">policy premium</keyword> would be refunded, provided the policyholders surrendered their policy between years 4-7 of the policy tenure. Moreover, they would lose the entire premium amount if they surrendered their policy within a year. <br /><br />Customers will also be entitled to higher special surrender value (SSV) from now on. This SSV should be at least equivalent to the expected present one of the these three:<br /><ol><li>Paid up sum assured, or present value of your sum assured after you stop paying premiums</li><li>Paid up future benefits</li><li>Accrued benefits</li></ol>Also, it will be compulsory for life insurers to offer loans to policyholders as per the eligible surrender value of the policy. Says Vivek Jain, Head, Investments, Policybazaar.com, "The provision for higher Surrender Value (SV), calculated at a prevailing 10-year government securities rate with a limited spread, significantly increases the value returned to policyholders in the event of a policy surrender, after the completion of first year. The mandatory facility of policy loans across all life insurance savings products and the allowance of partial withdrawals under pension products will provide vital financial flexibility, which will enable policyholders to meet liquidity needs and specific financial goals. These measures will certainly enhance trust and transparency in the industry."<br /><cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Partial withdrawal allowed from pension products" comment="subhead" text="Partial withdrawal allowed from pension products"><span data-til="noop">Partial withdrawal allowed from pension products</span></cmsannotation> <br />Policyholders will be allowed to make partial withdrawals, provided they have 3 years of continuous coverage under their insurance-cum-pension plan. Also, these withdrawals cannot be more than 25% of the total premiums paid till date. The insurer cannot use this withdrawal towards making any adjustments in the policy's sum assured.<br />However, this withdrawal will only be allowed for specific situations, like funding children’s higher education/marriage, constructing a house, treating critical illnesses, starting a new venture or for skill development purposes. <br /><br />

Here’s how your life insurance plans are set to change

<ul class="summary-list"><li>There are two competing visions for the future of the AI business, according to Marc Andreessen.</li><li>The first: It's a wildly profitable, winner-takes-all market. The second: It's a race to the bottom.</li></ul><p>Is artificial intelligence more like <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/google-hybrid-work-policy-amazon-rto-employees-workplace-remote-2024-10">Google</a> or a bag of rice?</p><p>That's not a riddle. Instead, it's one of the most fundamental (and arguably surreal) questions facing the <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/generative-ai-threat-to-saas-companies-software-as-a-service-2023-5">AI</a> industry today, according to legendary investor <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/marc-andreessen-thinks-ai-can-save-comedy-2024-7">Marc Andreessen</a>.</p><p>Speaking this week at Ray Summit, an AI conference in San Francisco hosted by Anyscale, Andreessen said there are two competing visions for the future of the AI business.</p><p>In the first vision, AI startups are in a winner-takes-all race. This will lead to "monopoly and infinite profits because of scale. The biggest company's going to have the best model that's going to answer all the questions better, and then they're going to charge whatever they want for it," Andreessen explained. "That's what happened with Search, where Google ended up in that position."</p><p>The alternative AI future is not so bright for profit-hungry AI entrepreneurs. Hyper-capitalized startups may be "in a race to the bottom, in which it actually turns out selling intelligence is selling rice or something," Andreessen said, with slim profit margins and little product differentiation.</p><p>"It just turns out anybody can make an LLM, there's open-source LLMs, there's new LLM startups every day, and it just turns out anybody can go scrape the internet, anybody can buy the GPUs, and then anybody can basically get the same result," he explained, referring to large language models, a common type of AI model.</p><h2 id="6296fae3-a67d-466b-b847-738c6057cb60">Rice or Google?</h2><p>So is OpenAI building the next Google Search? Or is it spending billions of dollars to get into the rice-selling business?</p><p>We got something of an answer to how OpenAI thinks about this the following day at Ray Summit. This was the same day the startup closed a<a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/openai-investors-latest-funding-round-2024-10"> $6.6 billion funding round</a> at a $157 billion post-money valuation.</p><p>On Wednesday, OpenAI chief product officer Kevin Weil took to the stage, where Anyscale cofounder Robert Nishihara asked him what open-source models mean for OpenAI's business.</p><p>These AI models, such as Meta's <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/mark-zuckerberg-open-source-ai-platforms-future-competition-apple-llama-2024-9">Llama</a> offerings, are freely available for almost anyone to use, while OpenAI sells access to propriety, closed models. The concern is that cheaper alternatives are <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/for-ai-models-good-enough-is-good-enough-2024-5">good enough</a> for most users, which could undermine OpenAI's ability to charge for access to its top GPT models. Indeed, the price AI companies can charge users per "token" has <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/ai-frontier-crowded-winners-losers-2024-8">collapsed</a> in the past 18 months or so.</p><p>Weil professed not to be concerned.</p><p>"I'm glad there are open-source models. I mean, I think it isn't an either-or. From a philosophical sort of mission perspective, it's about getting more AI into the hands of more people, and I think that's great," he said, bringing up Meta's approach with Llama. "I also worked closely with Mark [Zuckerberg] for a number of years. I have a ton of respect for him. It's a super smart strategy for Meta."</p><p>OpenAI has some open-source efforts, he added, pointing to its Whisper audio transcription model.</p><p>Weil emphasized OpenAI's superior technology, arguing that "ultimately what people want is they're going to try and find the most capable models for the best price that also are as safe as possible." Later, discussing the startup's new o1 model, he added: "By the time people do catch up, we're going to try and be three more steps ahead."</p><h2 id="d49b5bdc-53f6-4227-9ee8-7c9fafa515a6">The cost of production</h2><p>Toward the end of the on-stage interview, though, Weil acknowledged that the window for AI companies to charge a hefty premium for their top models is tight — no matter how useful the end-products are.</p><p>"The world is going to change, and if it becomes possible to do these things for $3, you also can't go and charge $5,000 for them for very long because someone is going to come along and charge very quickly," he said. "These things end up around the actual cost of production."</p><p>OpenAI is growing fast, but it still loses a lot of money.
