When the user is directed to the attacker’s website, an Android malware dubbed ALIEN is installed on their device. The malware then loads Predator on the device. The spyware is capable of recording audio, hiding apps and adding CA certificates. Google has pointed out that similar techniques have been used in the past against journalists and other victims. Government-backed attackers are using Predator spyware to record audio, hide apps and more — here's everything you need to know about it

The investigative arm of the competition watchdog is currently investigating documents that have revealed financial dealings between e-commerce platforms and their preferred sellers. According to an Economic Times <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/tech/technology/cci-reviews-documents-suggesting-nexus-between-e-commerce-firms-and-preferred-sellers/articleshow/91898945.cms">report</a>, the investigative arm, which is currently reviewing the documents found during a <a href="https://www.businesstoday.in/big-story/story/cci-raids-amazon-flipkart-seller-offices-cait-welcomes-the-move-331611-2022-04-28">raid</a> last month, has sought more time from the CCI. The raids were conducted on the offices of <keyword id="18635" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="amazon" source="Orion">Amazon</keyword> and Flipkart’s sellers. The investigation was supposed to be completed in the first week of June. However, additional time has been sought to analyze data. “Some important data has been seized during the raids and the same needs to be analyzed,” a source familiar with the investigation told ET. According to a source, the investigators recovered documents pertaining to “financial linkages” between the e-commerce platforms and sellers on the platforms. The documents reportedly also contain data related to costs. “Deep discounting is a key antitrust issue that CCI is probing and the documents pertaining to the acquisition costs of the goods will provide more insights on who is subsidizing these goods,” added the source. One of the issues being probed by the watchdog is the equity held by e-commerce giants in these online vendors. “Also, since some of the ecommerce companies themselves own shares in the online vendors, CCI is examining the terms of such equity investments,” the source said. The <keyword id="76562" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="confederation-of-all-india-traders" source="Orion">Confederation of All India Traders</keyword> (CAIT), a trader’s body, has welcomed the investigation and the raids conducted on the online vendors. CAIT has been a vocal critic of e-commerce platforms and the deep discounts offered by them. The CAIT in 2020 had approached CCI, alleging abuse of market dominance by e-commerce platforms. In its petition, CAIT had claimed that the e-commerce platforms were forcing vendors to become preferred vendors and then promoting them over non-preferred vendors. India’s competition watchdog is probing deals between Amazon, Flipkart and their preferred sellers

Third-party smartphone <keyword id="6354741" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="apps" source="Orion">apps</keyword> for connected cars belonging to top brands like Tesla, Nissan, Renault, Ford, and Volkswagen are using the vehicle owners' credentials without asking for their consent, a new report claimed on Friday. On top of this, one in five of applications have no contact information, which makes it impossible to report a problem, according to Kaspersky's 'Connected Apps' report which analysed 69 popular third-party mobile apps designed to control connected cars. "The benefits of a connected world are countless. However, it is important to note that this is still a developing industry, which carries certain risks," said Sergey Zorin, Head of Kaspersky Transportation Security. "Unfortunately, not all developers take a responsible approach when it comes to data storage and collection, which results in users exposing their personal information. This data may further be sold on the dark web and end up in untrustful hands," he warned. Cybercriminals might not only steal your data and personal credentials but also gain access to your vehicle - and that might lead to physical threats. Connected automotive applications allow users to remotely control their vehicles by locking or unlocking the doors, adjusting climate control, starting and stopping the engine, etc. Even though most car manufacturers have their own legitimate applications for the cars they make, third-party apps designed by mobile developers are also very popular among users as they may offer unique features that have not yet been introduced by the vehicle manufacturer. The third-party applications analysed by Kaspersky cover almost all major vehicle brands, with Tesla, Nissan, Renault, Ford and Volkswagen in the top-5 cars most often controlled by such apps. "However, these applications are not entirely safe to use," claim Kaspersky researchers. They found that more than half of the applications don't warn about the risks of using the owner's account from the original automaker's service. Moreover, every fifth application does not have information on how to contact the developer or give feedback, making it impossible to report a problem or request more information on the app's privacy policy. "It is also worth noting that 46 of the 69 applications are either free of charge or offer a demo mode. This has contributed to such applications being downloaded from the Google Play Store more than 239,000 times, which makes you wonder how many people are giving strangers free access to their cars," the report mentioned. Far-right publication Breitbart News claimed that hundreds of millions of dollars flew from Gates' foundation to 11 of the 26 organisations that "signed an open letter last month urging Twitter advertisers to boycott the company if Elon Musk restores free speech on the platform". Citing research and analysis from the Foundation for Freedom Online (FFO), the report analysed public filings to trace hundreds of millions of dollars in contributions from the letter signatories back to the Bill &amp; Melinda Gates Foundation. "In total, 11 of the 26 anti-Musk organisations received funding from a Gates-backed entity," the report claimed. Musk replied: "What a d*** move!" As per FFO's analysis, Gates Foundation paid 102 separate cash grants to or through New Venture Fund, totaling $457 million. Earlier this month, about 26 activist organisations and NGOs signed a letter to Twitter advertisers asking them to boycott the platform if Musk makes content moderation changes. It was later revealed that some of these groups are funded or tied to billionaire philanthropist George Soros, former US presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama. "Elon Musk's takeover of Twitter will further toxify our information ecosystem and be a direct threat to public safety, especially among those already most vulnerable and marginalised," the groups wrote to advertisers. "Under Musk's management, Twitter risks becoming a cesspool of misinformation, with your brand attached, polluting our information ecosystem in a time where trust in institutions and news media is already at an all-time low," the groups wrote. The Daily Mail had first revealed the people behind the 26 groups. Musk has put the Twitter deal on hold till the company reveals the actual number of bots on its platform. He has sparred with Gates on Twitter earlier too over various issues. Gates had expressed apprehension regarding Musk's Twitter takeover, saying he could potentially make the micro-blogging site a "worse" platform.
