The Pharmaceuticals &amp; Medical Devices Bureau of India (<keyword id="13996556" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="pmbi" source="Orion">PMBI</keyword>) has for the first time crossed Rs 100 crore sales in the month of May. This is the implementing agency of <keyword id="12298151" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="pradhan-mantri-bhartiya" source="Orion">Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya</keyword> <keyword id="10883494" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="janaushadhi-pariyojana" source="Orion">Janaushadhi Pariyojana</keyword> (<keyword id="4082172" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="pmbjp" source="Orion">PMBJP</keyword>). "In its journey of last 8 years, starting from the annual turnover of Rs 8 crore in year 2014-15, PMBI has clocked its highest monthly sales turnover of Rs 100 crore in the month of May, 2022 which in turn has saved around Rs 600 crore of citizens of the country", said the Union Health Ministry in a statement on Tuesday. In May, 2021, total sales were Rs 83.77 crore and that was the COVID-19 second wave period. People have been able to reduce their out-of-pocket expenditure on medicines with the government intervention of this noble scheme, the ministry said. The Centre has also set a target to increase the number of Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya <keyword id="4079131" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="janaushadhi-kendras" source="Orion">Janaushadhi Kendras</keyword> to 10,000 by March 2024. The number of these stores is currently 8735. Under the PMBJP, 739 districts of the country have been covered. Currently, these centres make available more than 1600 medicines and 250 surgical devices including nutraceuticals, Ayush products and Suvidha sanitary pads which are sold at Re 1 per pad. PMBI crosses ₹100 crore in May; Centre to increase the number of Janaushadhi Kendras by March 2024

New Delhi, May 3 () Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Kendras have achieved sales of Rs 52 crore in April despite problems in procurement and logistics due to coronavirus-induced lockdown, the government said on Sunday. The sales were at Rs 17 crore in April 2019, and in March 2020, the sales were at Rs 42 crore, the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers said in a statement. This has led to total savings of around Rs 300 crore for the people, as medicines at the janaushadhi kendras are cheaper by 50 to 90 per cent than the average market price, it added. The ministry is committed to ensuring uninterrupted availability of affordable medicines to people of the country through the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP), the statement said. New Delhi, Feb 1 () Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Saturday proposed to expand Jan Aushadhi Kendra Scheme to all districts in the country.
Currently, there are around 6,000 Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Kendras.
"I propose to expand Jan Aushadhi Kendra Scheme to all districts offering 2,000 medicines and 300 surgicals by 2024," Sitharaman said in her second budget speech.
The objective of the scheme is to make quality medicines available at affordable prices for all, particularly the poor and disadvantaged, through exclusive outlets 'Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Kendras', so as to reduce out of pocket expenses in healthcare. AKT BAL

Govt to expand Jan Aushadhi Kendra Scheme to all districts by 2024

Davos/New Delhi, Jan 21 () Innovative technologies and solutions can play key role in bridging economic inequalities, Union Minister Mansukh Lal Mandaviya said on Tuesday.
 Shipping and Chemical &amp; Fertilisers Minister Mandaviya is on a four-day official visit to Davos, Switzerland, to attend the World Economic Forum.
 "Health needs to be accessible for all and innovative technologies and solutions can play a key role, including in bridging economic inequalities," Mandaviya said participating in a round-table of UNAIDS (Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS) on 'Access for all: Leveraging Innovations, Investments and Partnerships for Health'."
 The statement said the minister discussed what the Government of India has done for health access to all.
 Mandaviya mentioned various schemes initiated by the government, including the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (Ayushman Bharat), the largest healthcare programme in the world, and the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana, to provide affordable quality medicines for all, the statement said.
 Earlier in 2015, Mandaviya had delivered his key-note address in the United Nations on '2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development'.
 UNAIDS provides the strategic direction, advocacy, coordination and technical support needed to catalyse and connect leadership from governments, the private sector and communities to deliver life-saving HIV services.

New Delhi, Mar 7 () Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday asked people to stay away from rumours regarding coronavirus and emphasised on the need to follow the advice of doctors in this regard. He also asked people to avoid handshakes and start greeting others with 'namaste' once again. Modi was interacting with owners of Jan Aushadhi Kendras and beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojna (PMBJP) through video conference. "I appeal to my fellow countrymen to stay away from rumours regarding coronavirus," Modi said. We need to follow the advice of doctors in this regard, he said. People should avoid handshakes and start greeting others with 'namaste' once again, the Prime Minister added. Talking about the impact of the PMBJP initiative, he said every month, over one crore families are getting benefits of cheap medicines from these Jan Aushadhi Kendras. Only it isn’t going as well they hoped. Once they’re legal, the BJP has a plan to put up 2 lakh houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY-Urban). However, their plans were undercut when the Delhi Chief Minister and national convener of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Arvind Kejriwal, launched the Mukhyamantri Awas Yojana (MMAY) for slums or Jhugi Jhopri (JJ) colonies across the city. On the surface, the parties are accusing each other of hampering development. However, it should be noted that the slums in question are home to nearly 40 lakh beneficiaries — known for being a major vote bank of the AAP.

However, a report by <a href="https://www.telegraphindia.com/india/delhi-s-slum-dwellers-feel-aap-is-the-new-congress/cid/1690439">the Telegraph</a> indicates that some slum dwellers feel that AAP is the new Congress — the former favourite before AAP existed. “This was a Congress stronghold, no one else used to campaign here. We had high expectations from (Prime Minister Narendra) Modi but the only changes that have improved our lives have come because of Kejriwal. The AAP is the new Congress here,” a slum dweller told <a href="https://www.telegraphindia.com/author/pheroze-l-vincent/95">Pheroze L. Vincent</a>. As of now, Kejriwal’s certificates are just paper and BJP’s promise is just a ‘promise’. The construction of new homes and rehash of these colonies is yet to appear.
