Picture this. You are in the middle of an intense boss fight. Arrows flying from all directions. Beastly creatures are after you and in the midst of it all you spot a large dragon who lands right in the middle of action. You quickly change your weapon choice and instruct your companions to fight the dragon with you. However, just before you could attack, you run into a system error and have to restart the game all over again. Trust me, we have all been there. But this wasn’t the case with the newly-launched Dragon Age: The Veilguard.<br /><br /><div type="image" title="3" msid="116133701" hostid="261" sizebytes="1807404"></div><br />This is a game that pushes both graphical fidelity and hardware performance, delivering a breathtaking journey through a richly detailed fantasy world. With my PC armed with an AMD Ryzen 7 9800 X3D processor, Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 Super GPU, 32 GB DDR5 RAM, I was able to get a great experience with this game. Let us take a look at how the game performed with different settings. <br /><br /><h2>The sweet spot<br /></h2><br />Starting with DLSS set to Balanced mode, I tested the game at a resolution of 2560x1440 with ultra graphics and selective <keyword id="20976394" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ray-tracing" source="keywords">ray tracing</keyword>. Without frame generation, the gameplay clocked in at 90 FPS, offering smooth visuals. Enabling frame generation and turning off V-Sync cranked the frame rate up to 140 FPS, significantly enhancing responsiveness during combat and exploration.<br /><br /><div type="image" title="6" msid="116133722" hostid="261" sizebytes="1410873"></div><br />Lowering the resolution to 1080p further pushed the performance to 180-190 FPS with frame generation, and 120-110 FPS without it, making the gameplay exceptionally fluid.<br /><br /><h2>Prioritising visual fidelity<br /></h2><br />Switching to Nvidia <keyword id="24385578" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="DLSS-Quality-mode" source="keywords">DLSS Quality mode</keyword>, which focuses on visual excellence over raw performance, I saw fantastic results. At 1080p resolution with ultra graphics and frame generation off, the game maintained an average of 118 FPS. <br /><br />Returning to 2K resolution with Quality DLSS, Nvidia Reflex set to “On + Boost,” and frame generation enabled, the frame rates ranged between 130-150 FPS. The experience was smooth and visually stunning, with every texture rendered in incredible detail. In some scenarios, frame rates even spiked to 180-200 FPS, peaking at 220 FPS in less graphically intense areas. I spent hours exploring the vast world with this setting, marvelling at various scenes it had to offer. The environment artists have really done a fabulous job and the game looks breathtaking.<br /><br /><div type="image" title="4" msid="116133742" hostid="261" sizebytes="1234786"></div><br />When I switched DLSS to Performance mode at 2K resolution, the game delivered around 160 FPS, offering a good balance of visuals and performance. <br /><br /><h2>Prioritising performance<br /></h2><br />To test the game’s performance, I tweaked around the settings a bit and here is how it went.<br /><br />At 1080p resolution, with Ultra Performance DLSS, frame rates soared to 230-250 FPS, with only a slight reduction in visual quality—barely noticeable unless scrutinised.<br /><br />To explore maximum performance potential, I switched from ultra to high graphics settings with ray tracing off, DLSS set to Ultra Performance, and frame generation enabled. This unleashed astonishing frame rates of 300-350 FPS, showing that at lower graphical presets, the game resulted in almost unbelievable frame rates without a drop. The visual quality was noticeably reduced but the game wasn’t unplayable. You still will get to see some gorgeous scenarios, even with these graphic settings.<br /><br /><div type="image" title="7" msid="116133766" hostid="261" sizebytes="991975"></div><br />Reverting DLSS to Quality mode under these settings still delivered an average of 260 FPS, proving the rig’s capability to handle demanding titles like Dragon Age: The Veilguard with ease.<br /><br /><h2>Ray Tracing: A visual feast</h2>The pinnacle of visual fidelity in the game came with DLSS Quality mode with ultra graphics, ray-traced reflections, and ambient occlusion at 2K. With these settings enabled, I got an average of 110-120.<br /><br />Even during intense battle sequences, frame rates rarely dipped below 100 FPS. The realistic reflections and intricate lighting effects made environments come alive, with highlights like walking through water puddles becoming a jaw-dropping experience.<br /><br /><div type="image" title="5" msid="116133782" hostid="261" sizebytes="1046215"></div><br /><br />Thus, Dragon Age: Veilguard delivered a stellar performance on my custom water-cooled system, thanks to NVIDIA's 4070 Super GPU and DLSS option.  Whether you’re a player who prioritises ultra-smooth gameplay or one who revels in visual splendour, the game offers a wide range of configurations to suit your preferences.<br /><br />With its flexibility in settings, Dragon Age: Veilguard proves to be a masterfully optimised title that caters to both performance enthusiasts and visual connoisseurs. <br /><br />On my rig, the game performed brilliantly, making every battle, exploration, and story moment a seamless experience. Whether you’re walking through shimmering puddles or taking down foes in epic battles, this is a journey that will keep you hooked for hours. <br />

The phone features a sturdy glossy back panel with a marble feel to it which is visible when the lights are on. The phone, at a glance, looks quite stylish and will stand out in a crowd. I personally am not a fan of prints but the marble feel on the iQOO Z9s Pro looks quite elegant and not at all overdone. Then there is the familiar square camera module and the iQOO branding. The phone could easily handle titles like Battlegrounds Mobile India and Call of Duty Mobile at high settings without a hitch. The cooling system helps prevent overheating during prolonged sessions, making it a reliable choice for gamers. The laptop is available in a single variant with 16GB LPDDR5x 8400 MHz RAM and a 512TB PCIe Gen4 NVMe M.2 SSD.<br /><br />It is able to handle multi-tasking with ease, without any issues. There was no stuttering or lag, despite many applications and tabs open at once. So, what makes the Asus Vivobook S15 powered by <keyword id="20301169" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="snapdragon-x-elite" source="keywords">Snapdragon X Elite</keyword> chip special? Read on.<br /><br />      <div type="image" title="12" msid="113314323" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;Asus Vivobook is powered by Snapdragon X Elite chipset&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div><br /><h2>Design </h2><br />As mentioned already, the Vivobook S15 looks custom-built for those looking for a new laptop to carry to work every day. The moment you lay your eyes on it, you will know it is a productivity laptop built to get things done. It is quite lightweight as well and I could carry it around in one hand across the newsroom without any problem. The laptop also didn’t take up much space in my backpack, and I could easily carry a lot of other stuff in the same bag. <br /><br />The aluminium body, with a metallic finish silver colour, feels premium and durable. On the left of the lid is the subtle but noticeable Asus Vivobook branding. <br /><br />As gorgeous as the laptop looks, it collects dust pretty easily. There is also some slight flex when you put some pressure on the lid. There is also a Micro SD card reader as well as a 3mm headphone jack on the left edge.<br /><br />There are no ports at the back which honestly is great since I don’t like struggling while finding the charging port at the back when I am seated at my workstation. However, since all the ports are on the sides of the laptop, your work desk could seem cluttered if you connect a lot of wired accessories. In addition to this, there is no ethernet port which could be a downside for some users whose offices don’t have WiFi and rely on LAN cables. <br /><br />Talking about the keyboard, it is quite easy to adapt to and results in a tactile feel. I use a mechanical keyboard as my daily driver and the keyboard of the Asus Vivobook S15 made me feel at home. However, I felt it was slightly larger than I would normally want it to be. At times, even while typing, my palms kept touching the trackpad which posed a slight challenge. This is not a deal-breaker as one will get used to it after a few days of using it. <br /><br />The trackpad is also equipped with some cool functions. Swiping up and down on the right edge would lower and increase brightness whereas the left edge can be used for volume control. Both these come pretty handy while working in an office.<br /><br /><h2>Display</h2><br />The laptop comes with a 15.6-inch, 3K (2880 x 1620) OLED display with a 120 Hz refresh rate and 100% DCI-P3 colour gamut. The display captures attention when your laptop is kept open. A few of my colleagues also heaped praises on the display saying it looks attractive. While the glossy display results in crystal clear and crisp graphics, it can also be reflective which can pose a challenge. Even with full brightness, I was sometimes struggling to see what was being displayed on my screen. I travel in cabs a lot and could easily get my work done even when the sun shined with all its might through the cab windows. <br /><br />The thin bezels and vibrant colours further enhance the overall experience. I also used the laptop to watch some episodes of shows like The Big Bang Theory and Modern Family and had nothing to complain about as far as the entertainment experience was concerned. <br /><br /><h2>Performance</h2>One thing that the Asus Vivobook S15 made headlines for was the Snapdragon X Elite processor with Qualcomm AI engine. Usually, you would find Intel or AMD-powered laptops in the market but Asus is trying something new here. And it pays off. The ARM-based processor posed no challenges during my daily work and the laptop didn’t hang or lag during my usage. <br /><br />I have about 10-15 tabs open at once while working and also tend to play some songs on YouTube from time to time. I could also attend my work video meetings with ease and the laptop has a decent in-built camera. However, I recommend using headphones as the laptop speakers, located at the bottom, are sort of underwhelming. They are barely loud enough to fill a room but seem to be lacking in bass. When I played a track on this laptop as well as the MacBook Pro, the MacBook’s voice overpowered quickly. <br /><br />Being an avid gamer, I wanted to try out Ghost of Tsushima on this laptop but couldn’t get it to run. I did play Mortuary Assistant on this and the game did run, but with a few lags. Hence, the laptop isn’t for heavy gamers (nor does it want to be). And there are a couple of features that you can use. For instance, the laptop offers live webcam effects, like background blurring and artistic filters. This comes in handy while attending meetings or just video-calling friends and family. <br /><br />While the background blur is practical, the filters are more for fun. Windows 11 is supposed to automatically crop and pan the webcam to keep your face in the frame, but this feature didn’t work consistently. Now I am no artist but I did try out a basic prompt that was in the suggestion box. And I think the image of a turtle swimming is quite impressive.<br /><br />    <div type="image" title="76dfc6d2-5463-4a51-8a09-4b00faa512af" height="900" width="1200" msid="113314889" hostid="261"></div><br /><br />The Copilot app, which is also available online for free, is built into this laptop. The chatbot can help you search the web, generate images and more. However, the app doesn’t work without the internet. <br /><br />Asus has also contributed its own AI-driven tool, StoryCube, for managing photos and videos. This tool offers various display options and allows for quick grouping, tagging, and organization. Additionally, the NPU also supports features like presence detection, which can dim or lock the screen when you step away, all while conserving battery life.<br /><br />Hence, even though the current AI features on the laptop are decent, they don't yet seem life-changing. With that being said, a much-anticipated Copilot+ feature, Recall, which was supposed to index all activity on your PC to allow for easy information retrieval, has been delayed due to security concerns.<br /><br /><h2>Battery</h2><br />One area where the Asus Vivobook S15 shines is the battery. I used the laptop at 50 per cent brightness at work and didn’t need to charge it for over a day and a half. However, I had turned the RGB-lit keyboard off and only used Google Chrome and MS Word during this time. <br /><br />My usual workday lasts for about 9 hours. With an even lower brightness and battery-saver mode enabled, the battery might last even longer. While gaming, the laptop’s battery dropped to 88 per cent from a full 100 per cent in half an hour. <br /><br /><h2>Verdict</h2><br />The Asus Vivobook S15 is a solid option for those who want a gorgeous design, portability, and battery life in a laptop. In the box, you also get an additional top cover which can be swapped. I have been using the gorgeous Brave Green colour variant of the cover. There is also a Lilac colour option. <br /><br />For ease of being carried around, the mouse comes with a carrying strap that you can easily slide your fingers into. The mouse can be used in Bluetooth mode or wirelessly with a receiver that can be attached to your laptop. Wen’s research showed that not all praise is created equal. When co-workers were praised for their <em>effort</em> (think “Wow, look at how hard they hustled to close that deal!”), everyone felt inspired. It didn’t matter if the person receiving the praise was socially close or distant from their colleagues — the impact was the same. The addition of ray tracing enhanced the visual effects, adding realistic reflections, shadows, and lighting effects that made the game’s world even more immersive. However, this came at the cost of performance.<br /><br />The drop in FPS was noticeable, making the game feel slightly less responsive and less fluid, particularly in combat-heavy sequences where every frame counts.<br /><br />  <div type="image" title="2" msid="113575857" hostid="261"></div><br /><br />Ray tracing undeniably enhances the game’s aesthetic appeal, but the impact on performance suggests that it might not be the best option for players who prioritise a smooth gameplay experience. For those who are more focused on cinematic visuals and are okay with lower frame rates, enabling ray tracing could still be worthwhile. <br /><br />However, given the hit on performance, it might be best reserved for exploring the game world rather than for intense combat scenarios.<br /><br /><h2>Exploring various DLSS modes<br /></h2><br />To find a middle ground between visuals and performance, I experimented with various DLSS quality modes. Setting DLSS to Balanced mode, which uses 55% super-resolution, yielded frame rates in the range of 60-70 FPS. This configuration struck a reasonable balance, offering decent graphics quality while keeping the gameplay smooth enough for most scenarios. However, there were still occasional drops during graphically demanding scenes, which slightly detracted from the overall fluidity.<br /><br />Switching to DLSS Ultra Performance mode, with a super-resolution of 25%, drastically boosted the frame rates to between 100-120 FPS. The gameplay felt exceptionally smooth and responsive, especially during fast-paced combat and exploration. However, this setting comes with a trade-off in visual quality. Textures appeared less detailed, and some of the finer visual elements seemed a bit blurred or less defined. While the difference wasn’t drastically game-breaking, it was noticeable, especially when compared to higher DLSS settings.<br /><br />  <div type="image" title="6" msid="113575871" hostid="261"></div><br /><br />After testing various settings, I found that DLSS Performance mode with a super-resolution of 50% offered the best overall experience. This setting provided a stable frame rate range of 90-100 FPS, striking a harmonious balance between high-quality visuals and smooth performance. The game ran very smoothly, with rich details and vibrant effects that fully showcased the capabilities of the Alienware X16 R2. <br /><br />During intense combat scenarios, such as boss fights against formidable foes like the wolf, the game maintained its smooth performance with only minor lag. These brief interruptions were rare and didn’t significantly impact the overall experience. This setting seems to be the sweet spot, delivering excellent visuals without compromising on frame rates, making it ideal for both casual exploration and high-stakes combat.<br /><br /><h2>Sound quality and immersion</h2>Sound design plays a crucial role in enhancing the gaming experience, and Black Myth: WuKong does not disappoint in this regard. I am a fan of minimalist designs and if that’s what you prefer in a phone, you will love the design language of the V40 Pro.<br /><br />The camera module at the back mimics a pendulum, with two cameras neatly positioned in a circular arrangement at the top, while a third camera and a distinctive aura LED ring complete the look in the bottom module. The symmetrical, artistic design of the camera module adds to the phone’s elegance. <br /><br />Then there’s the usual Vivo branding on the left and Zeiss branding placed within the camera module. <br /><br />On the right edge, there is a power button and volume buttons. The placing of these buttons is spot on as I could easily turn the volume up and down using my thumb while holding the phone. The bottom edge has the Type-C charging port and speakers along with the SIM tray. <br /><br />On the front, the phone comes with a 6.78-inch FHD+ AMOLED display paired with a 120Hz refresh rate. The display is surrounded by slim bezels that result in an immersive experience and also has a punch-hole notch which enhances the experience. The display comes with a peak brightness of 4,500 nits. The phone is powered by the Mediatek Dimensity 9200+ processor and everyday tasks feel smooth and seamless. Whether you're making calls, jotting down notes in a meeting, editing photos in Adobe Lightroom, or playing games, the phone can take care of it all. I didn’t encounter any lags or performance issues, even with multiple apps running simultaneously. In fact, I managed to have 18 apps open at once without the phone slowing down, showcasing its impressive multitasking capabilities.<br /><br />I also played a couple of games on the phone including COD Mobile, Genshin Impact, The Sims Freeplay and Battlegrounds Mobile India. The phone was capable of running all the games perfectly at medium and high graphic settings. It did get fairly warm after some intense gameplay but it never got to the point where I had to keep it down. The speakers, enough to fill up a medium-sized room, felt adequate. If your usage is light, it might last a couple of hours over that too. Hence, the battery life is quite impressive. I used the phone at work extensively every day and found myself reaching for a charger only on the following morning when I woke up.<br /><br />When I played Battlegrounds Mobile India on the phone for an hour, the battery dropped by 13 per cent. I was playing with full brightness on. Hence, if you are gaming on the phone for long hours, it is a good idea to have your charger next to you. The phone also charged to a full 100 per cent in about 50 minutes.<br /><br />On the software side, the Vivo V40 Pro runs <keyword id="21133649" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="FuntouchOS-14" source="keywords">FuntouchOS 14</keyword>, built on Android 14.
