Billionaire <keyword id="22623487" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Stanley-Druckenmiller" source="keywords">Stanley Druckenmiller</keyword>'s family office-led investment firms were among the companies that sought shares of AESL in the QIP. AESL in the filing said its board has approved allocation of over 8.57 crore shares to eligible qualified institutional buyers at the issue price of Rs 976 per share, reflecting a discount of Rs 51.11 (4.98 per cent) to the floor price of Rs 1,027. Giving details of allottees who got more than 5 per cent of shares, it said INQ Holdings LLC, a wholly-owned subsidiary of QIA, cornered 15 per cent of the shares sold. Two Mauritius funds of Citigroup bought 8.88 per cent of the shares sold while four SBI funds - SBI Infrastructure Fund, SBI Large &amp; Midcap Fund, SBI Long term Advantage Fund Series IV and SBI Magnum Children's Benefit Fund - together took home 7.93 per cent of the shares. Nomura Singapore Ltd ODI cornered 7.5 per cent of the shares, the filing showed. INQ had in August last year acquired nearly 2.7 per cent in Adani Green Energy Ltd - the renewable energy firm of the conglomerate run by billionaire Gautam Adani. In 2020, it had acquired a stake in Adani Electricity Mumbai Ltd, a subsidiary of AESL. The AESL QIP last week was oversubscribed six times and fetched demand of over Rs 50,000 crore against an issue size of USD 1 billion. <keyword id="22636516" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Duquesne-Family-Office" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Duquesne Family Office" meta.hostid="267" meta.entityid="Duquesne Family Office">Duquesne Family Office</keyword> and two other US-based long-only funds - Driehaus Capital Management and Jennison Associates - bought shares but AESL did not disclose the exact number of shares they bought since these were less than 5 per cent of the issue size, sources said. The QIP issue marked the debut of highly prestigious long-only investors Duquesne Family Office, Driehaus Capital Management and Jennison Associates which are known for their strong performance. These investors are known for investing only in companies with high governance and are known for staying invested for decades. The QIP was the first public equity raise by the conglomerate since a damning Hindenburg report last year wiped away billions in shareholder value. The demand generated made the AESL QIP the largest in the energy space. Duquesne was founded by billionaire Stanley Druckenmiller, who along with George Soros in 1992 broke the Bank of England by shorting the British pound, leading to its crash and earnings over a billion dollars. Adani Group has a history of introducing several long-only investors in the market. In the past years, it has brought large investors including GQG Partners and International Holding Company (IHC) besides QIA. Other major global names that participated in the QIP include Blackrock, Jupiter Asset Management, and Eastspring. Domestic mutual funds that have participated included HDFC Mutual Fund, Axis Mutual Fund, Bandhan Mutual Fund, LIC, WhiteOak, 360One among others. Insurance companies including SBI Insurance, SBI Pension and ASK Asset Management have also participated, according to sources. QIP is an instrument used by listed companies to raise funds from large institutions. The fundraise is the first after Adani group's flagship firm scrapped a Rs 20,000 crore issue in February last year, following the Hindenburg report alleging accounting fraud and stock manipulation. Though the group vehemently and repeatedly denied all allegations, listed companies of the conglomerate at one point saw over USD 150 billion of their market value being wiped out. While the group has largely recovered, a successful QIP is being seen as a powerful vote of investor confidence in the tycoon. Separately, Adani Enterprises Ltd, the flagship firm of the group, is looking to revive its first-ever public sale of bonds. It plans to raise as much as Rs 600 crore. The company has hired Trust Investment Advisors, AK Capital Services and Nuvama Wealth Management as lead managers for the issuances. The group had tapped the dollar bond market in March this year - the first time since the Hindenburg report - when its solar energy unit Adani Green Energy Ltd and associated firms got bids of about USD 2.9 billion.

L&T wins multiple orders worth Rs 2500 to 5000 crore to build grids for clean energy transition

The group will look to refinance $3-4 billion of debt maturing in the year and raise an additional $1 billion in project financing, he said, adding the annual $2-2.5 billion of equity infusion by bringing in new investors is also likely to continue. "This year will be more about asset completion," the CFO continued. <keyword id="34553" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Renewable-energy" source="Orion">Renewable energy</keyword> firm <keyword id="19898586" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Adani" source="keywords">Adani</keyword> Green will complete 6-7 GW project, while the solar wafer manufacturing unit will also attain scale. The AI boom will push America's shaky power grid to its limit

Currently, it is in the process of developing solar and wind power projects across Karnataka, Rajasthan, and Maharashtra. The new unit will "undertake business to develop, operate, maintain, deal with data centres, information technology (IT)/ information technology-enabled services (ITES)/ cloud, providing services related thereto and to undertake activities associated with its infrastructure development including land acquisition and development for the said purpose," it said. MDCL will commence its business operations in due course, it added. In February 2021, Adani Enterprises Ltd had partnered EdgeConneX, a leading data centre operator, to develop one gigawatt (GW) of data centre capacity over the next decade. The equal joint venture (JV), named AdaniConneX, will focus on building a network of hyperscale data centres in India, starting with Chennai, Navi Mumbai, Noida, Visakhapatnam and Hyderabad. A data centre provides the necessary secured architecture wherein computing and networking equipment is concentrated for collecting, storing, processing, distributing or allowing access to large amounts of data. Gautam Adani had in November 2021 stated that he wants his conglomerate to be a world leader in green data storage, with sites run entirely on clean power, in sync with India's goal of turning carbon net-zero by 2070. The diversification comes against the backdrop of India's digital economy expected to touch USD 1 trillion by 2025. Also, the Reserve Bank of India's norm mandates data localisation, necessitating the need for setting up large data centres to store and protect information. Data localisation refers to storing data on any device physically present within the borders of a country where the data is generated. Adani and other large corporates from Reliance Jio to Bharti Airtel are also seeking to tap this opportunity. Adani group last year got land in Noida for the data centre from the Uttar Pradesh government. Flipkart has partnered with Adani Group to set up its third data centre in Chennai. Last week, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in her budget for 2022-23 proposed to classify data centres and energy storage as infrastructure assets allowing firms to access cheap and long-term credit. "As India's internet economy continues to be on a surge, as there is an increasing need to build a requisite data centre to ensure seamless uninterrupted data consumption and storage. "The growing smartphone subscribers with rising monthly mobile data traffic, coupled with rising broadband penetration and increasing digital transactions per year, will create an enormous need to collect, store, process and distribute data," Adani Group said on its website. Adani Group forms unit to set up data centre in Mumbai

<ul><li>The massive power cut in India’s financial capital Mumbai on October 12 may have been the work of hackers. </li><li>The Maharashtra Police’s cyber cell probe has reportedly found evidence of suspicious logins and is working to determine if this was a coordinated attempt to take down Mumbai’s power grid.</li><li>According to an earlier statement by the state’s Energy Minister Nitin Raut, the possibility of sabotage cannot be ruled out.</li></ul>The power was out in Mumbai for nearly a day on October 12, putting the stock exchanges, medical facilities, and other critical infrastructure at risk. Now, the state police’s cyber cell probe has reportedly revealed that this may have been the work of state-sponsored hackers. Sources told the <a href="https://mumbaimirror.indiatimes.com/mumbai/cover-story/oct-12-blackout-was-a-sabotage/articleshow/79312959.cms">Mumbai Mirror</a> that multiple ‘suspicious’ logins on the supply and transmission utility servers were detected during the month-long probe. Most of these accounts were from other Asian countries, including Singapore. The investigation is currently ongoing to determine whether it was a coordinated attempt to bring down India’s financial capital. State-sponsored hackers targeting India According to a report by <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/tech/news/top-cyber-espionage-groups-that-have-india-in-their-crosshairs/slidelist/79120867.cms">CYFIRMA</a>, at least four different state-sponsored hacking groups have India in their crosshairs. This includes Mission 2025, Apt36, Stone Panda, and the infamous Lazarus Group. However, until more information comes to light, there’s no way to tell whether it was one of these four groups or a new player altogether that attacked India’s power grids. According to Mumbai Mirror, the attempts to break through have been ongoing since February — shortly after the COVID-19 outbreak started to spread. At the time of the Mumbai power outage, Maharashtra’s Energy Minister Nitin Raut told the media that the possibility of sabotage could not be ruled out. “There was a technical problem and the Kharghar unit stopped. There was an islanding failure in Mumbai, which shouldn't have happened. This is the reason that the possibility of sabotage is suspected,” he said. Not only was the department rendered inoperable for three days, its website and mobile app were also taken down. Neel Kamal Singh from the IT wing of the J&amp;K Power Department <a href="https://twitter.com/jkmediasocial/status/1276213262229450752">told the press</a> that it was a ransomware attack, where all official files and data have been encrypted by the hackers. Before the attack was finally shut down, the hackers were able to compromise at least four servers. India is not alone Methods of warfare are no longer restricted to horses or firepower. Most attacks now happen in the digital space, and India is not alone in its struggles. Canada, for instance, has named China and Russia as primary threats to its cybersecurity. The country’s Communications Security Establishment (CSE) fears that these foreign actors are likely to target Canada’s power supply. The US has also identified China as a threat to its national security, with the possibility of an attack on some of its critical infrastructure. Mumbai’s massive power cut last month may have been the work of hackers

New Delhi, Feb 5 () Average spot power price in January dipped 14 per cent to Rs 2.86 per unit as compared to the year-ago month on the Indian Energy Exchange (IEX), according to official data. "The day-ahead market (DAM) traded 4,791 MU (million units) with an average market clearing price at Rs 2.86 per unit (in January 2020) against Rs 3.33 per unit in January 2019, a 14 per cent decline in price," an IEX statement said. The electricity market on the IEX recorded a total trade of 5,062 MU in January. The market witnessed a significant 50 per cent year-on-year jump in traded volumes and continued to be favourable for the buyers. This also validates increased preference by distribution utilities and open access consumers alike for the Exchange that offers power procurement at the most-competitive prices, it added. The increase in traded volumes on the Exchange was largely due to a surge in demand by the distribution utilities as well as the open access consumers from almost all parts of the country, primarily southern, western and northern states. In the DAM market, total monthly sale bids were 11,670 MU, while buy bids were 5,716 MU. The sale bids were over twice the buy bids and thus ensured lower price which provided a compelling proposition to the distribution utilities to meet their demand as well as replace costlier generation. The data also showed that "One Nation-One Price" prevailed for 24 days during the month. The market saw volume loss of 24 MU, representing a mere 0.5 per cent of the cleared volume, on account of congestion in the inter-state transmission network mainly towards import of power to the southern states. Term-ahead market volumes rose 166 per cent year-on-year to 271 MU on account of increased procurement by the distribution utilities. On an all-India basis, the peak demand at 171 GW in January 2020, rose 5 per cent y-o-y over demand of 162 GW in January 2019. PowerGrid InvIT IPO set to open on April 29, price band fixed at ₹99-100

New Delhi, Jan 27 () The power ministry has asked states to nudge their power regulators to reduce electricity retail tariff for prepaid consumers, saying prepayment metres will help discoms reduce associated expenses incurred on meter reading, billing and collection.
 The government aims to make all electricity meters smart prepaid ones in three years starting from April 1, 2019, in a bid to cut transmission and distribution losses.
 A power ministry order stated that "states may request the State Electricity Regulatory Commission (SERC) to consider reduction in power retail tariff to consumers for power purchased through prepayment metres".
 The order also stated that necessary changes in the relevant regulations or orders or mechanism to reduce cost of power in case of advance payments or prepayments by any entity or consumers, should be implemented within six months of issuance of this letter (on January 16, 2020).
 The ministry explained in the order that in case of prepayment, the carrying costs will come down, leading to reduced requirement of working capital for discoms.
 It also said the prepayment will eliminate associated costs involved in meter reading, billing and collection and, thus, the electricity tariff per unit should come down.
