As expected, the employees are terribly disappointed and feel this move is unwarranted, especially since they believe private printers are out to cheat the government. Prabhu Mohapatra, one of the press employees, told the <a href="http://indianexpress.com/article/india/indias-lone-govt-postal-printing-press-to-close-staff-question-move-odisha-5197976/lite/">Indian Express</a> that private parties deliver less than the ordered amount and profit on the sleaze by charging for the entire consignment. “They (private presses) price their rates below us because they are already cheating, but the government is hoodwinked into thinking they are more efficient and cost-effective,” he alleged. Employees claimed that the press per se was not inefficient and instead made counter accusations of the ineptness of other government departments. “Earlier, raw material for our press came through tender by Commerce Ministry’s Directorate General of Supplies and Disposal (DGS&amp;D), which was changed to the Government e-Market online system in 2017. DGS&amp;D was inefficient and procured paper for us with delays every year. Each year, our machines were idle for two months. Disregarding this, the government has categorised our office as inefficient and recommended closure,” Jyotirmaya Das, an employee at the press, told Indian Express. Lucknow, May 4 () A number of staff members were back to work at various government offices here on Monday, registering "normal" to thin attendance according to officials."The District Collectorate of Lucknow witnessed normal attendance of employees on Monday with strict adherence to norms of social distancing," District Magistrate of Lucknow Abhishek Prakash told .He also said, "Stand alone private offices, which are not COVID-19 hotspots in Lucknow will be allowed to re-open on Tuesday. However, they have to ensure that social distancing is strictly complied with and there is proper arrangement for sanitisers. There are around 13 hotspots in the state capital."A senior UP government official said the departments which come under the ambit of essential services are functioning with "normal" attendance, while the attendance was less in rest of the departments.Private shops, educational institutes, business establishments, private offices, malls, shops, and public transport remained closed on Monday, officials said.According to the UP government, the services declared essential include medical, health and family welfare, medical education, home, intelligence/prison administration, police, armed forces and paramilitary forces, personnel department, district administration, energy, urban development, food and civil supplies, disaster relief, fire services, civil defence, information, emergency services, telephone, internet, network services and IT-enabled services.Postal services, banks, ATMs, insurance companies, e-commerce, media, petrol pumps, LPG and oil agencies, medicine shops, medical equipment shops and medicine producing units, agriculture production and animal fodder too have been classified as essential services.In Prayagraj, the government's printing press department is working with 30 per cent staff and instructions have been issued to ensure that social distancing is strictly maintained.Administration officer Rajshri Basak said, "The office re-opened on Monday. On normal days, there are 28 staff members who work in my department. But, today there were only four personnel working in the department. The office will work with 30 per cent staff. COVID-19: Staff getting back to work at UP govt offices

<ul class="summary-list"><li><keyword id="43546" type="EVENT" weightage="60" keywordseo="Voting">Voting</keyword> in the 2020 presidential election is ending on Tuesday. </li><li>This fall, election officials in most states and the District of Columbia will be offering online ballot-tracking services, allowing voters to verify when their mail ballot has been received and accepted. </li><li>President Donald Trump has urged his supporters to vote by mail and then go to polling places to see if their ballots were accepted.</li><li>But going to polls to check whether your vote is counted is unnecessary — in the vast majority of states, you can check your ballot's status online.</li></ul>A record 65 million Americans have voted by mail in the 2020 presidential election, according to the US Elections Project. And this year, it's easier than ever to check online to see if your mail ballot has been received and counted. Dozens of states <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/states-where-you-can-vote-by-mail-map-2020-8">have taken steps to make it easier to vote by mail because of the COVID-19 pandemic</a>, with nine states and the District of Columbia, in addition to a number of counties in Montana, sending all or most registered voters a ballot, and more sending out mail ballot applications to all or most voters. According <a href="https://medium.com/@VoteAtHome/its-election-day-do-you-know-where-your-ballot-is-a4a7d784372">to an analysis by the National Vote at Home Institute</a>, a nonpartisan group that advocates for states to make it easier for voters to cast ballots safely from home, 47 states and the District of Columbia now have online portals that allow voters to track the status of their ballots every step of the way. "Ballot tracking is very much similar to tracking a package that you order online, but for mail ballots," Amber McReynolds, the CEO of the institute, told reporters in September. "It utilizes different data-entry points into the process to let a voter know what the status of their mail ballot is from the time it's been printed and mailed, all the way through to when it's been received by the election official at the end of the process." McReynolds played a role in creating the nation's first ballot-tracking system, <a href="https://www.denvergov.org/pocketgov/#/ballot/lookup">BallotTrace</a>, while serving as the elections director for Denver <a href="https://www.denverpost.com/2020/09/12/colorado-election-2020-ballot-tracking-griswold/">in 2010</a>.Now in the majority of states and the District of Columbia, all voters will have access to a ballot-tracking system. In those states, voters just have to enter some details like their name, address, and date of birth into the portal to see the status of their ballots.Several of those states, including California, Colorado, Georgia, Nevada, North Carolina, and Virginia, also currently allow voters to sign up for email and/or text message alerts for updates on when their ballot was mailed, received, and accepted, as opposed to the voter having to manually check on their state's portal. That option is also available in certain counties in other states. And even if your state's ballot tracking system doesn't offer text or email alerts, you can sign up to be notified whenever you receive a letter or package in the mail <a href="https://informeddelivery.usps.com/">through the United States Postal Service's Informed Delivery service.</a>In 12 additional states, ballot tracking is offered in all or some counties at the local level, where voters can verify the status of their ballot or sign up for alerts with their county. You can find out how to track your ballot by going to your state or local election office's website, and enter your name, address, and date of birth to find the status of your ballot.This ease of access to a ballot's status runs counter to President Donald Trump's baseless claims of widespread mail in ballot rigging and his call for voters who mailed in ballots to check the status at their polling places — when this can be more readily checked online.<div type="image" title="California BallotTrax" height="1508" width="2834" msid="78151634" hostid="261"></div>Just three states — Mississippi, Missouri, and Wyoming — currently have no ballot tracking systems at the state or county level in use for the November election. If you're in one of those states and have concerns about the status of your ballot, you can contact your local election office.In numerous primary elections across the country this year, several states including New York, Pennsylvania, and Georgia had statewide or localized issues with voters not receiving their ballots at all, receiving them too late, or having their ballots arrive back at their election offices too late. Some of the administrative problems with mail voting and <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2020/09/14/upshot/is-the-mail-getting-slower-tracker.html">recent service disruptions and </a>delays with the US Postal Service <a href="https://patch.com/north-carolina/charlotte/vote-mail-survey-nc-voters-nervous-ballots-wont-be-counted">have left many voters anxious about voting by mail</a>. And in September, Trump <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2020/09/05/politics/trump-vote-twice-north-carolina/index.html">spread further confusion</a> by urging voters in North Carolina and Pennsylvania to vote by mail and then go to polling places to see if their ballot was accepted and vote in-person if not. Not only is voting twice in a federal election illegal under federal law and in most states, but going to the polls to check whether your vote is counted is unnecessary and will simply create longer lines at polling places, officials say. In the vast majority of states, you can check on the status of your ballot and ensure that it was accepted online from the comfort of your home. McReynolds explained that most ballot tracking systems use data points inputted both from election offices themselves, like when a voter's ballot request is received and processed, and from Intelligent Mail Barcodes. Election officials or their vendors can affix those barcodes to the envelopes containing voters' ballots, which provide voters with updated data on the status of their ballot when they are scanned at every step. One of the largest vendors working with election officials to provide ballot tracking systems is Colorado-based company <a href="https://ballottrax.com/">BallotTrax</a>, whose technology is now being used in 25 states and hundreds of counties, the company said in a September 10 press release. BallotTrax's technology has helped localities track over 60 million ballots since 2009, the firm estimates. "Voters using BallotTrax get a tracking service similar to Amazon's package tracking, allowing voters to sign up for text, email and phone notifications alerting them to the status of their ballot, from when it is printed, sent, delivered and, most importantly, officially tabulated," the company's CEO Steve Olson said. "No longer do voters have to wonder if their mail-in ballot was actually counted."Ballot tracking systems can also allow officials to quickly alert voters if there's a problem with their ballot that must be fixed, like a missing signature on the outer envelope or a signature that doesn't match what the election office has on file in states that use signature verification. Signature discrepancies have been increasingly common reasons for ballots to be challenged or rejected in 2020, <a href="https://www.npr.org/2020/08/22/904693468/more-than-550-000-primary-absentee-ballots-rejected-in-2020-far-outpacing-2016">a recent NPR analysis found. </a>Jocelyn Bucaro, the current Director of the Denver Elections Division, also told reporters that in addition to enhancing peace of mind for voters that their vote was counted, ballot tracking also helps the security and integrity of a ballot as it goes from each point along the way. "In urban areas like Denver where people live in apartment buildings with mailboxes that are not necessarily right outside their front door, people are not always checking their mail every day," she said. "It's a place that is as amoral as the American business community in general, or at least the corporate community, can be. And that's one of the problems with it," he told The Atlantic. "I never worked or was asked to work on things that I had a problem with, but it's a place that I think, like any other law firm or firms that deal with companies, just thinks about client work and doesn't always think about the bigger implications."

SOCIAL &amp; MESSAGING APPS AS TRANSACTION PLATFORMS: The latest social app to launch a payments/commerce feature is Japan-based LINE, which has some 300 million registered users globally. It has launched LINE Mall, an eBay-style peer-to-peer e-commerce service. Here's some analysis from Mobile World Live: "LINE Mall is similar in intention to eBay, with no charge for listing but a commission of 10 per cent charged on final purchase prices. Users also receive points after transactions that can be used for future discounts. LINE Mall sellers and buyers can either identify themselves using their existing LINE accounts, or sign-up for a separate account." SOCIAL PAYMENTS?: It's not just LINE. Other social and messaging services also want to be at the center of consumer transactions. Facebook has a service called "Autofill," which is similar to "Pay With Amazon," a feature that allows Amazon customers to autofill their credit card and payment information on e-commerce sites. Third-party developers are also developing tools that bridge the gap between social media and commerce. For example, Brazilian-based startup, called Arco, has enabled purchasing on Instagram. Camera manufacturer Leica partnered with Arco to allow its Instagram followers to purchase its products by simply commenting "Purchase" on an Instagram photo. Dread Pirate Roberts says bitcoin booty is his: Ross Ulbricht, who is accused of running the underground Internet site Silk Road - used by drug dealers and cyber criminals - is trying to argue in court that the U.S. government has no right to seize some $34 million in bitcoin as part of a money laundering case. Ulbricht, who allegedly used the Internet handle Dread Pirate Roberts, says bitcoin is not an asset covered by federal forfeiture law.
