Porsche launched a pair of $10,000 electric bikes to match its $91,000 Taycan Cross Turismo EV - see both

The German automaker has unveiled two <keyword id="662112" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="electric-bikes">electric bikes</keyword>, alongside the global debut of the Porsche Taycan <keyword id="6371186" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="cross">Cross</keyword> Turismo. The <keyword id="10870767" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="porsche-ebike-sport">Porsche eBike Sport</keyword> is priced at $10,700, while the "cheaper" Porsche eBike Cross costs $8,549. Both the bikes will be up for grabs from spring 2021. The e-bikes are dubbed Porsche Sport and Porsche Cross electric bikes, designed for different usage scenarios. "While the Porsche Sport is a <keyword id="10883776" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="regular-road-bike">regular road bike</keyword> for everyday use, the Cross is an off-road bike", reports <keyword id="2666663" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Gizmochina">GizmoChina</keyword>. The Porsche eBike Sport is equipped with a new Shimano EP8 motor, which provides motor support up to 25 km/hour (about 15 miles per hour), a Shimano electronic gear shifting system and Magura high-performance brakes that are integrated into the handlebars, according to the report. The Sport bike also has M99 LED lights from Supernova, which are embedded in the handlebar stem and aerodynamic seat post. The Porsche eBike Cross has a new motor developed by Shimano, Magura-MT Trail high-performance brakes with extra-large, heat-resistant brake discs for deceleration. The Cross is more for off-roading adventures, the report said. Next to names like ClassPass, Scribd, and dozens of healthcare startups, Bird looks like an outlier. What's more, the investment was in Bird's 5th round of funding, another a-typical move from CRB.But to get in on the ground floor of scooter companies as they<a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/portland-trial-proves-that-e-scooters-are-taking-cars-off-streets-2019-1"> continue to expand globally</a> while<a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/scooter-startup-dott-20-million-no-scooter-bubble-2018-12"> racking up valuations in the billions</a>, it was worth paying a little more, CRV partner Saar Gur explained to Business Insider. It all could be worth it in the end."Every once in a while we see companies that have gone on to become worth $50 billion, $100 billion, etc," he said in a recent interview. "And I think as we've looked back, we sort of kicked ourselves. Meanwhile, valuations of all scooter companies continue to climb, with Lime announcing in February another $300 million round that boosts its valuation to $2.4 billion.After a rash of broken scooters, vandalism, and even fires, all of the competitors in the space - and there are dozens - have begun rapidly investing in developing scooter 2.0. Even in preliminary launches of "upgraded" models, the new scooters are nothing like the Razor scooters from your childhood."I think we'll look back a hundred years from now at this first scooter and it will look like the Model T does when you look at a Tesla today," Gur said of the improvements.That should also help for things like winter, which took its toll on scooter companies. Some Birds flew south for the winter, while there were other reports of companies downplaying hardships to investors. But when major cities begin to thaw this spring, investors like Gur seem confident in continued expansion.New York, for example, is considering bills that would legalize electric scooters while also creating a pilot program for rentals. Another Bird investor has been giving test rides on private land to reporters, while <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/new-york-may-legalize-e-scooters-lime-new-model-2019-1">Lime opened a pop-up shop near Times Square to bolster public support for the potential laws.</a>"I think people will look back and say we watched the General Motors and Chevrolets' get built in front of our eyes," Gur said.
