And Annie Murphy, who plays <a href="https://www.insider.com/schitts-creek-how-show-ends-where-characters-end-up">Alexis Rose</a>, is a very vocal fan of the store and its baked goods. </p><p>Murphy gushed about Goodwood, and Annina's specifically, during an appearance on "<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bA0pE8Zp0gc">Late Night with Seth Meyers</a>" in August a few months after the final season of "Schitt's Creek" aired, explaining that she'd driven back up to the town after feeling "stir-crazy" and "nostalgic."</p><p>Much of the Emmy-winning show, which ran for six seasons, <a href="https://www.cosmopolitan.com/uk/entertainment/a34713235/schitts-creek-filming-locations/#:~:text=Goodwood,(actually%20a%20private%20house).">was shot on location in Goodwood</a>. Insider reporter Sophie-Claire Hoeller <a href="https://www.insider.com/real-life-schitts-creek-goodwood-canada-photos-2021-1">previously wrote</a> that the tiny Canadian hamlet is approximately 28 miles from <keyword id="29196" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Toronto">Toronto</keyword> and only covers about half a square mile. There are buildings around the town that fans might recognize <a href="https://www.insider.com/real-life-schitts-creek-goodwood-canada-photos-2021-1#while-many-interior-scenes-were-shot-in-a-toronto-studio-most-buildings-used-in-the-show-were-located-on-the-same-intersection-5">that served as the exterior shots</a> for local "Schitt's Creek" landmarks like Bob's Garage and Rose Apothecary. </p><p>"There's a bakery in Goodwood called Annina's, which is the best bakery," Murphy told Meyers. Murphy said she bought a butter tart, <a href="https://cooking.nytimes.com/recipes/1019129-butter-tarts">a popular flaky and sweet Canadian delicacy</a>, from Annina's and took a stroll around town before being spotted by a group of tourists.</p><h2>Annina's has been a Goodwood staple for over a decade</h2><p>Annina's has been run by Ontario native Marco Cassano for the past 12 years. He describes it as "a country shop with gourmet flavors" in the "quiet city" of Goodwood.</p><p>"We're only 45 minutes away when there's no traffic, from downtown Toronto, but it's a quiet, quaint, friendly neighborhood," Cassano told Insider. </p><p>Cassano describes the Goodwood community as "tight, small, and very friendly" - very similar to the supporting characters who befriend the newly-arrived Rose family in "Schitt's Creek."</p><div type="image" title="Annina's Bakeshop" height="781" width="1042" msid="81181829" hostid="261"></div><p>For six seasons, <a href="https://www.netflix.com/watch/80046429?trackId=200257859">"Schitt's Creek"</a> followed the misfortunes of the Rose family after they lost their home and almost all of their wealth, except for a town they owned called Schitt's Creek. They begrudgingly relocated there, living at the town's Rosebud Motel while rebuilding their lives from scratch. </p><h2>Annina's provided catering for 5 seasons of the hit show</h2><p>From the beginning, "Schitt's Creek" filming in Goodwood boosted the bakery's business, starting with getting it involved in the production process.</p><p>Annina's split catering duties with an in-house catering service hired by the studio for the first season. The bakery's presence increased as the show progressed, Cassano says, and they even traveled with the cast and crew to various shoots at other locations for seasons four and five.</p><p>For the sixth and final season, the show went back to in-house catering as the cast and crew only spent a few days filming in Goodwood.</p><div type="image" title="Annina's" height="540" width="2052" msid="81181830" hostid="261"></div><p>While they were catering the show, Cassano had plenty of encounters with cast members - and as it turns out, Murphy isn't the only fan of the store among the "Schitt's Creek" cast. </p><p>"Eugene [Levy] was great. He would come and buy meat pies," Cassano said.</p><h2>'Schitt's Creek' fan visits and Murphy name-dropping Annina's on TV helped the store maintain strong sales during the pandemic</h2><div type="image" title="Annina's Bakeshop" height="754" width="1005" msid="81181831" hostid="261"></div><p>Cassano told Insider that for the 12 years he's had the store, the last seven have been "pretty busy." He says the business typically served between 500 to 1,000 customers each weekend pre-pandemic. It also offers off-site catering services for weddings and other events in addition to its storefront sales.</p><p>While catering for events tapered off during the pandemic due to shutdowns, the influx of tourists visiting Goodwood and increased orders from the US for their butter tart after Murphy's mentioned it during her "Late Night" appearance helped keep their business at roughly the pre-pandemic level, according to Cassano.</p><p>"It kept our sales the same, our staffing the same," Cassano said.</p><p>In fact, the sheer volume of tourists actually became a concern after Murphy put the bakery on fans' radars. Cassano had to hire two security guards a few weeks after Murphy called it "the best bakery" in order to ensure social-distancing measures remained in place. They were tasked with making sure that only four to six customers were inside at the same time. </p><div type="image" title="Dan Levy Annina's Bakeshop" height="790" width="1054" msid="81181832" hostid="261"></div><p>"The health departments actually emailed and they told us, 'You need to find a way to control the crowds that are coming,'" Cassano said. </p><p>"Once they heard that we were at the four corners of 'Schitt's Creek,' the health department told me, 'You're going to have a major problem,'" he added. </p><p>With the store maintaining strict social distancing inside the building, Cassano said they sometimes have lines of 50 to 60 people waiting outside. </p><p>In March 2020, Dan Levy, one of the stars and a co-creator of the show, asked fans of the show to be considerate and not visit Goodwood during the pandemic.</p><p>"The towns where we shot Schitt's Creek were so lovely and accommodating to us. Please show them the same respect. Visiting right now is a threat to the residents' health and safety," Levy said.</p><p>While Cassano expects the current sky-high interest in Annina's to level out over the summer, he's hopeful it'll continue enough that he can avoid laying off any staff members - thanks partially to the spotlight "Schitt's Creek" and Murphy have put on his bakery.</p>

<ul class="summary-list"><li>The iconic Rosebud Motel from the hit comedy series "<keyword id="3283038" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Schitts-Creek">Schitt's Creek</keyword>" is selling for $1.6 million.</li><li>Known in real life as the Hockley Motel, it's located an hour outside of Toronto, <keyword id="6356687" type="LOCATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="canada">Canada</keyword>.</li><li>The motel consists of 10 apartment-style rooms plus a standalone cottage.</li></ul><p>The Rosebud Motel from "<a href="https://www.insider.com/category/schitts-creek">Schitt's Creek</a>" could soon be yours - if you have $1.6 million and some elbow grease to spare.</p><p>Appearing in every episode of the hit comedy series, the rundown Rosebud Motel is where the Roses, a once-affluent family of four, take up residence after they lose their fortune due to a corrupt business manager.</p><p>While the interiors of the fictional motel were <a href="https://locationmanagers.org/up-schitts-creek/">filmed on set</a>, the building used to film its exterior is a real place in Ontario, Canada, known as the Hockley Motel. It's set on 6.7 acres in the town of Mono about 50 miles from Toronto and <a href="https://www.collierscanada.com/en-ca/properties/hockley-motel/can-308399-hockley-road-mono-ontario-canada/can2006713">selling for $2 million Canadian dollars, or roughly $1.6 million</a>.</p><p>Current owner Jesse Tipping, who serves as the president of a high school basketball prep program in the area, purchased the former motel in 2011 and used it as housing for recruits, he <a href="https://www.simcoe.com/news-story/10207457-for-sale-owner-of-schitt-s-creek-rosebud-motel-shares-exclusive-details-about-property-he-s-about-to-put-on-real-estate-market/">told</a> the <keyword id="281201" type="CITY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Orangeville">Orangeville</keyword> Banner.</p><p>The cast and crew of "Schitt's Creek" rented the property for about a month each year starting in 2014, Tipping said.</p><h2>A big selling point for the motel is its affiliation with "Schitt's Creek"</h2><p>Listing agency Colliers International appears to be banking on the Hockley Motel's connection to "Schitt's Creek" by prominently touting that it was a show filming location.</p><p>As is, the Hockley Motel is "not operational," according to the <a href="https://www.collierscanada.com/en-ca/properties/hockley-motel/can-308399-hockley-road-mono-ontario-canada/can2006713">listing</a>. The main building consists of 10 apartment-style rooms, including a newly renovated two-story manager's suite. There is also a separate, one-bedroom cottage, and the Nottawasaga River runs through the property. </p><div type="image" title="Hockley Motel Skitched" height="1874" width="2498" msid="81786936" hostid="261"></div><p>In an interview with Location Managers Guild, Schitt's Creek location manager Geoffrey Smither <a href="https://locationmanagers.org/up-schitts-creek/">said</a> that his team looked at "a dozen or so" locations for the Rosebud Motel.</p><p>They ultimately chose the Hockley Hotel because it "was isolated" and "there were no proximate buildings that we would have had to avoid. It had a nice woody background too, and it looked right for us in terms of style and age," he said.</p><div type="image" title="Hockley Motel Colliers International" height="1874" width="2498" msid="81786945" hostid="261"></div><h2><strong style="background-color: #ffffff;">The motel is being marketed as renovation-ready</strong></h2><p>Beyond its ties to television, a perk of buying the Hockley Motel is that it is being offered "unencumbered by brand and management," <a href="https://listingsprod.blob.core.windows.net/ourlistings-can/77eda1d8-9621-48e8-bf97-6eeb4f8578f0/322b6570-e240-4f7d-bb88-c703199842b8">according to an investment document</a>.</p><p>In essence, this means that a new owner will have a blank slate to work with.</p><p>Colliers International notes in the listing that their "vision" for the property is for the new owner to "renovate and reposition the existing structures as a lodging operation, boutique property, or long-term rental for families."</p><div type="image" title="Manger's suite diptych" height="1425" width="1900" msid="81786951" hostid="261"></div><p>It sounds like the property could benefit from its very own Johnny Rose.</p><p>When the entrepreneurial character first arrives at the Rosebud Motel in episode 1 of "Schitt's Creek," he asks the receptionist, Stevie Budd, if the motel has a business center.</p><p>"Yes, we do have a business center," Stevie responds sarcastically. "You can find it right outside the doors to your left, right beside the hammam spa. Would you like me to book you a treatment while you're at it?"</p><p>Johnny and Stevie eventually form a business partnership to spruce up and expand the Rosebud Motel, but don't get around to adding a spa.</p><p>While the Hockley Motel listing suggests that a new owner could add an outdoor fire pit and picnic tables, a hammam may not be entirely out of the question given the motel's renovation-ready status.</p><h2>The future owner should expect some "Schitt's Creek" fans to show up at the front door</h2><p>Since the show's debut, the building has become a pilgrimage spot for die-hard fans. On Instagram, fans have posted photos using the location tag "Rosebud Motel" along with show catchphrases like Alexis Rose's "<a href="https://www.insider.com/schitts-creek-ew-david-etsy-face-mask-2020-5">Ew, David!</a>"</p><p>"They're always so happy to see the place," Tipping told the Orangeville Banner. "If I can come up with an idea that I think builds on what we've already done in a way that feels good and exciting and new and fresh and challenges our actors, then great. "For me, it was so important that people walk away at the end of our show loving it as much as they did when they started."</p><p>There's precedent for a beloved show coming back for a movie. Shortly after the period drama "Downton Abbey" concluded in 2016, its creator, Julian Fellowes, began conceptualizing a story for a follow-up movie. The "Downton Abbey" movie <a href="https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/downton_abbey">premiered in 2019 to positive reviews</a>.</p><p>"It's always good for people to miss you before you come back with something," Levy told People. "So I think we're going to let some time pass. One of these came from nominee Ramy Youssef's Twitter feed, instead of the live show on ABC itself. </p><p>Youssef, whose Hulu series "Ramy" was nominated for several awards, shared a video showing a Television Academy representative waving goodbye outside of his house.</p><p>"When you lose the emmy," Youssef tweeted. </p><p>"Ramy" lost in each of its nominated categories to comedy series PopTV's "Schitt's Creek," which swept the night's awards.</p><p>This video showed how the Television Academy was not just sending out people with Emmy statues to the winners' houses — but they had actually sent statues to every nominees' house in order to preserve the surprise. </p><p>People watching at home were shocked and amused by this dark knowledge. Instead of sitting in a large audience and applauding for the winner, all of these nominees might be sitting in their living rooms and looking at a hazmat-suited person holding their would-be Emmy award, only to then wave goodbye when they lose.</p><h2>Even the official Television Academy retweet the video, sharing a simple "sweating smile" emoji.</h2><p>Earlier this year, Youssef won best actor in a musical or comedy at the Golden Globes for "Ramy." The win came as a surprise for many, including <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/golden-globes-ramy-youssef-wins-best-actor-a-tv-comedy-1266687">the star of the show himself.</a> Now Youssef's tweet about losing at the Emmys is one of the night's most memorable moments, so far.
