The <keyword id="19895782" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Election-Commission" source="keywords">Election Commission</keyword> of India (ECI) on Monday issued a notification for the fourth phase of Lok Sabha elections, which will take place on <keyword id="21463279" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="May-25" source="keywords">May 25</keyword> in 57 constituencies across six states and one Union Territory. This phase will witness polling for 57 Lok Sabha seats across six states and one Union Territory, including Bihar, Haryana, Jharkhand, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, and New Delhi. According to the poll body's notification, the last date for making nominations is May 6. Scrutiny of nominations will take place on May 7. ECI further stated that the last date for withdrawal of candidatures is May 9. The first phase of voting for the seven-phased Lok Sabha election was held on April 19 in 102 constituencies across 21 states and UTs with over 62 per cent voter turnout. The second phase election was concluded on April 26. In the first phase, polling was held in Arunachal Pradesh (2 seats), Assam (5), Bihar (4), Chhattisgarh (1), Madhya Pradesh (6), Maharashtra (5), Manipur (2), Meghalaya (2), Mizoram (1), Nagaland (1), Rajasthan (12), Sikkim (1), Tamil Nadu (39), Tripura (1), Uttar Pradesh (8), Uttarakhand (5), West Bengal (3), Andaman and Nicobar (1), Jammu and Kashmir (1), Lakshadweep (1) and Puducherry (1). The second phase election was concluded on April 26. This phase saw polling on 88 Lok Sabha constituencies, including all 20 seats in Kerala, 14 in Karnataka, 13 in Rajasthan, eight in Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh, five each in Assam and Bihar, six in Madhya Pradesh, three each in Chhattisgarh and West Bengal, and one each in Tripura, Manipur and Jammu and Kashmir. The third phase of Lok Sabha elections will be held on May 7. The 2024 general elections will be held in India in seven phases, from April 19 to June 1, to elect the 543 members of the 18th Lok Sabha. The results will be announced on June 4. Election Commission issues notification for sixth phase of Lok Sabha polls

Voting for the high-stakes Uttar Pradesh assembly elections will be held in seven phases, starting from the western part of the politically crucial state on February 10 and moving eastwards. Punjab (117 seats), Uttarakhand (70 seats) and Goa (40 seats) will have single-day voting on February 14, coinciding with the second phase of polls in UP, according to the schedule announced by the Election Commission. For Manipur, the poll panel has decided to conduct voting in two phases - 38 seats on February 27 and 22 seats on March 3 - coinciding with fifth and sixth phases of UP polls. The final phase of voting will be on March 7 and votes for all phases would be counted on March 10. In Uttar Pradesh, voting will take place in 58 assembly constituencies, covering 11 western districts, out of the 403 seats in the first phase on February 10. The second phase to be held on February 14 will cover 55 seats, the third phase of voting will cover 59 seats on February 20, while the fourth phase polling will be for 60 constituencies on February 23. The fifth phase on February 27 will also cover 60 seats, while 57 constituencies will go to vote in the sixth phase on March 3 and the remaining 54 seats in the last and seventh phase on March 7. For the first phase of seven-phased elections for five states, the notification will be issued on January 14, nominations can be filed till January 21 for scrutiny till January 24, while nominations can be withdrawn till January 27. The polling will take place on February 10. For the second phase, the notification will be issued on January 21, nominations can be filed till January 28 for scrutiny till January 29, while nominations can be withdrawn till January 31 for polling on February 14. For the third phase, the notification will be issued on January 25, nominations can be filed till February 1 for scrutiny till February 2, while nominations can be withdrawn till February 4 for polling on February 20. The fourth phase schedule will have the notification issuance on January 27, nominations can be filed till February 3 for scrutiny till February 4, while nominations can be withdrawn till February 7 for polling on February 23. For the fifth phase, the notification will be issued on February 1, nominations can be filed till February 8 for scrutiny till February 9, while nominations can be withdrawn till February 11 for polling on February 27. The notification for the sixth phase will be issued on February 4, the last date of nominations on February 11, scrutiny will be till February 14 and the last date of withdrawal till February 16. The voting will take place on March 3. Majority of the candidates nominated by the Congress Party to contest in the Lok Sabha elections in Uttarakhand hold law degrees. Many of them with law degrees have graduated from the Kumaun University. In Hardwar, the party has fielded Ambrish Kumar. Pritam Singh will fight from Tehri Garhwal seat. On Monday, March 18, 2019, the Election Commission of India issued the <keyword id="7441904" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Lok-Sabha-Election-2019-First-Phase-Notification">Lok Sabha Election 2019 first phase notification</keyword>. While the different political parties in India are vigorously working to grab their share of the seats across the 543 constituencies for the Parliament, the EC’s notification sets the formal tone for the first phase of Elections that will cover 91 Lok Sabha seats spread across 20 states and Union territories in the country. The tenure of the present BJP Government in the state will end on June 3, 2019. Phase-1 notification highlights As per the formal notification on phase-1 of 2019 Lok Sabha Elections, the polling will happen on April 11, 2019 in 91 constituencies. Last date to file the nomination to contest in these constituencies will be March 25, 2019. Nomination papers will be scrutinized on March 26, 2019. Last date to withdraw the nomination is March 28, 2019 91 Constituencies that will go for polling during Phase-1 During phase-1 polling on April 11, 2019, all the 25 constituencies of Andhra Pradesh, 17 from Telangana, 8 in Uttar Pradesh, 7 in Maharashtra, 5 in Uttarakhand, 5 in Assam, 4 in Bihar, 4 in Odisha, 2 in Arunachal Pradesh, 2 in West Bengal, 2 in Jammu and Kashmir, 2 in Meghalaya, 1 in Chhattisgarh, 1 in Manipur, 1 in Mizoram, 1 in Nagaland, 1 in Sikkim, 1 in Tripura, and 1 in Andaman and Nicobar and Lakshadweep will go for polling. 2014 Lok sabha Elections results in the 91 constituencies During 2014 Lok Sabha Elections, the BJP alliance bagged 52 seats out of the 91 seats going for polling on April 11, 2019 during the first phase of elections. The Congress led UPA could bag only 9 seats from this segment. Other parties won from 30 seats in total. Assembly Elections During phase-1 polling on April 11, 2019, the Election Commission is also conducting the Assembly Elections in some states clubbing them with the polling for the Lok Sabha. All the 175 assembly constituencies of Andhra Pradesh, all the 32 assembly constituencies of Sikkim, all the 60 assembly constituencies of Arunachal Pradesh, 28 out of the 147 assembly constituencies of Odisha will also go for polling on this day. Nearly 900 million voters are expected to turn out this year, compared to 814.5 million in 2014. VVPAT is a second line of independent verification via a printer machine, which is attached to electronic voting machines. When a voter presses the button against the party symbol of their choice on the electronic voting machine (EVM), a paper slip is printed through VVPAT. The slip would contain the poll symbol and name of the candidate and allows voters to verify if their vote has gone to the intended candidate. After the voter views the slip, that slip will be dropped inside a sealed box linked to the EVM. "The Model Code of Conduct comes into effect from today itself in the entire country. New Delhi, Jan 8 (PTI) The EC would not like to interfere in the presentation of the Union Budget, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sushil Chandra said on Saturday, asserting the annual exercise would not disturb the level-playing field for parties during elections to five states. The Election Commission (EC) on Saturday announced the schedule for assembly elections to Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Manipur and Goa. Polls will be held between February 10 and March 7 in seven phases with counting of votes on March 10. Responding to a question on whether the Union Budget on February 1 and the president's address to the two houses of Parliament before that would disturb the level-playing field, Chandra said the Union Budget is an yearly statement which has to be laid before Parliament. "The Election Commission would not like to interfere in the presentation of the Budget because that is for the whole country and not limited to these five states only," he said. Noting that budget was a statement of expenditure and revenue, the CEC said, "How will the level-playing field will be disturbed? The level-playing field will not be disturbed (by its presentation)." Parliament is likely to be in session during elections. The dates of the Budget session are yet to be announced. PTI NAB AAR

Election Commissioner Sushil <keyword id="796" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Chandra">Chandra</keyword> was on Monday appointed as the next Chief Election Commissioner, the <keyword id="53099" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Law-ministry">Law Ministry</keyword> said. According to a statement issued by the <keyword id="1473949" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Legislative-Department">Legislative Department</keyword> of the ministry, Chandra will assume charge on April 13. Incumbent <keyword id="251670" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sunil-Arora">Sunil Arora</keyword> demits office on Monday. Chandra was appointed as an election commissioner on February 14, 2019, ahead of the <keyword id="6355187" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="lok-sabha">Lok Sabha</keyword> elections. He would demit office on May 14, 2022. Under him, the <keyword id="40807" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Election-Commission">Election Commission</keyword> would hold assembly polls in Goa, Manipur, Uttarakhand, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh. The term of the assemblies of Goa, Manipur, Uttarakhand and Punjab ends on various dates in March next year. The term of the Uttar Pradesh assembly ends on May 14 next year. New assemblies have to be constituted before their five year term ends.
