"Hey, I'm in the neighborhood," the message read. "I'm sorry, I saw this terrible graffiti." Kim had to click on the photo to see a clear image. He decided to take the risk. There, scribbled in Sharpie marker across the window of his restaurant's winter vestibule, were three words: "Stop eating dogs." <h2>The April 10 incident is just one example of the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/virus-from-china-exposes-racism-in-america-coronavirus-us-2020-3">rising number of racist attacks</a> against Asian-American restaurants in the US amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic</h2>Insider spoke with Asian-American restaurant workers across the country, who discussed everything from their employees being too afraid to do deliveries because of the attacks to coming face-to-face with white nationalists. Kim said he wasn't surprised that his restaurant, <a href="https://www.insider.com/affordable-michelin-starred-meal-in-nyc-jeju-noodle-bar-2019-11">one of the most affordable Michelin-starred establishments</a> in NYC, was vandalized. The racist graffiti came just weeks after Kim made the decision to temporarily close Jeju Noodle Bar because his head chef and employees didn't feel safe coming to work or doing deliveries. "I had hope that <a href="https://www.insider.com/how-to-help-restaurants-during-coronavirus-pandemic">we were going to do okay with delivery</a>," Kim said. "I was telling my key players, 'I think we can do delivery at least, I can pay you guys and I think we can stretch it and stay open.'" <div type="image" title="Jeju racist attack" height="2158" width="1108" msid="75213411" hostid="261"></div><h2>But Kim's head chef told him that she no longer felt safe even getting on the subway</h2>"People look at me and they give me a weird look," she told him. "They don't want to sit next to me. When I'm on the subway or public transportation, I feel like somebody keeps looking at me." Kim asked some of his other employees if they felt the same, and they told him about one of their friends who they said had been beaten up in the street. Then, Kim's friend, a fellow restaurant owner, told him that her son was attacked by three men inside the elevator of her luxury high-rise apartment building. That same week, <keyword id="6355005" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="news">news</keyword> broke that an <a href="https://nypost.com/2020/03/08/asian-man-stabbed-in-suspected-coronavirus-related-hate-crime/">Asian man was stabbed 13 times</a> in Brooklyn during a suspected coronavirus-related <keyword id="583443" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="hate-crime">hate crime</keyword>. Kim decided that staying open wasn't worth the risk.<div type="image" title="Jeju Noodle Bar" height="2122" width="2000" msid="75213412" hostid="261"></div>"What if one of my employees got hurt?" he said. "That's the worst thing that could happen." <h2>Eric Chan told Insider that many of his employees at <a href="https://www.facebook.com/pages/Jade-Garden/234003269950546">Jade Garden</a>, a Chinese restaurant in <keyword id="64863" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Seattle">Seattle</keyword>, are also too scared to come back to work</h2>Asian-American businesses in the city's Chinatown-International district had recently been tagged with white nationalist stickers. On April 12, Chan saw three white men wearing sunglasses and white bandanas around their faces place a sticker on his restaurant. "They were crossing the street, coming towards me, and walked right past me," he said. "Then their heads turn backwards and they keep looking at me and I'm like, 'What is going on with these guys?' I thought, maybe they're just punks looking at me because I'm Asian." <div type="image" title="asian restaurants racist attack" height="1500" width="2000" msid="75213413" hostid="261"></div>After the men disappeared, Chan went to get a closer look at the sticker they had left on his building. It read "Better dead than red," a Cold War slogan that has since been adopted by the white nationalist group Patriot Front. As Chan walked around Chinatown, he saw the men had left stickers on numerous Asian-American businesses. "For the nation against the state," some read. "Not stolen, conquered," others stated. A sticker had also been placed on the community's statue of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, the first president of the Republic of China. <div type="image" title="asian restaurants racist attack" height="2004" width="1102" msid="75213414" hostid="261"></div>Chan said he didn't realize what the stickers truly meant until he posted photos of them on his community's Facebook group. "People messaged me and said, 'This is a white supremacist neo-Nazi group, report this immediately," Chan recalled. "I was like, 'Oh, s***.'" A spokesman for the Seattle Police Department's Bias Crime Unit told Insider that there is still an active investigation into the incident. The stickers have since been scraped off by community members. <h2>Chan's run-in with the men came just weeks after his family's restaurant was vandalized</h2><div type="image" title="asian restaurants racist attack" height="1500" width="2000" msid="75213415" hostid="261"></div>In the early hours of March 26, someone smashed the windows of Jade Garden. Chan told Insider that he broke down in tears when he saw the vandalism. "I f****** cried, I was heartbroken," he said. "We've been working nonstop, 14 hours a day, my mom, my dad, my wife, my brother and sister. No breaks. The most time I ever get in a day is 30 minutes to myself, and that's when I go shower and use the bathroom. After that, I go to bed." "To see that the next morning, I just broke down," he added. "It was like a punch in the stomach. I felt super helpless." Business was already down 80%. In the last month, 11 Asian-Americans were attacked in New York due to the perception that they had the coronavirus, a spokesperson for the New York Police Department told Insider. And New York Attorney General Letitia James told Insider that her office has received 40 bias complaints related to the coronavirus since launching a hotline on March 23 to report hate crimes against Asian-Americans. "As we face an unprecedented and uncertain time for New York, the United States, and the world, we must reiterate the fact that this pandemic does not give anyone an excuse to be racist, xenophobic, or biased," said James. "No one should live in fear for their life because of who they are, what they look like, or where they come from." <h2>While Americans all over the country are worrying about getting infected, Asian-Americans are scared they'll be attacked by more than just the virus</h2> "All Asian-Americans are scared as hell," Chan told Insider. Alongside the physical attacks are the more subtle acts of discrimination. The stares on the train, or even in their own apartment buildings. "I started realizing that people were trying to stay away from me because I'm Asian," Kim told Insider. "The other day, I was going down the hallway of my apartment and this guy saw me and jumped to the other side." "I'm sure a lot of Asian-Americans are facing the same problem at the moment," he added. "They probably feel that every time they walk on the street, that people look at them like an alien, or try to run away from them because they're Asian." Jada Chiu, whose family owns the Chinese restaurant <a href="http://www.jadepalacekitchen.net/">Jade Palace</a> in Oakland, California, told Insider that she has had similar stares in the supermarket. "When I go to the store, it's a lot of passive stuff," she said. "People turning and running in the other direction. I don't see them doing that to other people." <h2>Despite fears for their own safety, many Asian-American restaurant workers are staying open to try and keep their businesses afloat</h2><div type="image" title="asian restaurant racist attack" height="2667" width="2000" msid="75213421" hostid="261"></div>Chinatown restaurants in the US were seeing an unprecedented drop in sales as early as the beginning of February. By the end of the month, both Chan and Chiu said their sales were down by 80%. "Our business pretty much came to a screeching halt," Chiu said. "I don't think it was even this bad during the recession." But Chiu said her parents have insisted on keeping the restaurant open, believing it would also keep the business safe from vandals. Chan said he is now personally making deliveries with the help of his wife, brother, and sister. He now closes the restaurant at 8 p.m. in further efforts to keep them safe. "Getting sick and people attacking us, that's obviously in the back of our minds," he said. "But we have no choice, we have to work." <h2>As Asian-Americans continue to face unprecedented hardships, their communities have rallied to bring some light in these trying times</h2><div type="image" title="asian restaurant racist attack" height="2667" width="2000" msid="75213422" hostid="261"></div>When Kim went to his restaurant the morning after the customer told him about the racist graffiti, he found that she had already washed most of it off. "People started reposting for us and giving us shout-outs," he said. "That was really appreciated. <div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table center"><div><div class="image on-image">A&amp;EEmmanuel, center, was one of nine undercover inmates on "60 Days In."</div></div></div><ul><li>Nine regular people went undercover at Fulton County Jail on the A&amp;E show "60 Days In."</li><li>They found that guards and inmates have an adversarial relationship with each other - both are afraid the other is taking advantage of them.</li><li>Sometimes, that can lead to testy confrontations and scary moments.</li></ul> In Atlanta's <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/60-days-in-season-4-2017-12">Fulton County Jail</a>, corrections officers and inmates are frequently at each other's throats.Inmates have everything from their recreation time to their medicine dosages carefully regulated by jail staff, and both parties are constantly wary of being taken advantage of by the other. Nine ordinary people discovered just how taxing it can be on the on the A&amp;E documentary series "<a href="http://www.aetv.com/shows/60-days-in">60 Days In</a>," which follows law-abiding citizens who voluntarily go to jail as <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/60-days-in-season-4-2017-12">undercover inmates</a> to expose problems from within the system.As chief jailer Col. Mark Adger explained, it's common for inmates to test new staff members by asking for small favors, like finding out when their court date is or when their section of the jail will be given recreation time. Although the favors seem benign, fulfilling them can distract staff from observing illegal activity happening in the cells, Adger said. "A new hire, a detention officer or sheriff, might get caught up in those games due to lack of experience," Adger told Business Insider. "They find themselves running around trying to fill out requests, doing things for inmates, only to find out they're being played."That distrust leads to an almost adversarial relationship between guards and inmates - a relationship that plays out on "60 Days In." In one episode, an undercover inmate named Emmanuel lashes out at corrections officers who are reluctant to help after he complains there was blood and mucus on the wall left from a previous inmate."Their relationship with inmates, it can be a pretty touchy one," Adger told Business Insider. "I think the main issue is the staff is always on alert of being scammed by an inmate or being played or manipulated by an inmate, regardless of the actual inmate's situation."Emmanuel, a public health analyst from New Jersey, immediately got into a shouting match with the corrections officers, who he said would not have responded to calm reasoning."It's a common pattern with the COs that it takes challenging, just being belligerent, in order for them to give you respect," he said on the show. "It's sad. They'll respond to you cursing at them, you yelling at them, and honestly, that doesn't help the inmates that are in here when they go out, because they know they can just get something by just yelling."<div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table center"><div><div class="image on-image">A&amp;EJaclyn, an undercover inmate.</div></div></div>Apart from Adger, none of the jail staff knew about the presence of the undercover inmates, who were given false identities and booked under fake charges. According to A&amp;E, the show's producers and camera personnel operated under the guise that they were filming a documentary about first-time inmates.The show has landed corrections officers in trouble before. In 2015, multiple corrections officers were fired from Clark County Jail in Jeffersonville, Indiana, where the show's first two seasons were filmed, as a result of events witnessed by the undercover inmates. No firings have been reported at Fulton County Jail as a result of the show.Still, Emmanuel was not the only participant in the show to describe questionable behavior by jail staff. In the women's wing of the jail, inmates complained for more than hour that there was a gas leak before staff took action, even as many of the women began panicking for their safety."I really just genuinely think the officers were tired of smelling it, tired of hearing us complain, so they had to do something," said Jaclyn, a paralegal from Indiana and one of the undercover inmates.<div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table center"><div><div class="image on-image">A&amp;EStephanie, one of the undercover inmates, covers her mouth during a gas leak in the women's section of Fulton County Jail.</div></div></div>Staff eventually relocated the inmates and called the fire department, who found a faulty valve in the heating system was left on."I don't know what the hell I'm inhaling, and that's dangerous," said Stephanie, another undercover inmate. "I get we're in jail, but no one should ever try to inhale that. I mean, the COs didn't want to inhale it, but they were making us inhale it."Adger said the experiences depicted on "60 Days In" reinforce the need for proper training for staff - something he's emphasized since the show came out."When you're dealing with incarcerated individuals, you have to realize they are human beings," he told Business Insider. <ul class="summary-list"><li>Tesla, the renewable energy and electric car company helmed by Elon Musk, has been slow to respond to the coronavirus.</li><li>Business Insider spoke with 10 Tesla employees all over the country, all of whom said they feared for their health and livelihood and some felt leadership at Tesla was lacking. Some sent workers home, some devised action plans, and some did little to nothing.Tesla, the electric car company helmed by billionaire Elon Musk was, until a few days ago, in the latter category. It was only after discussions with California authorities in late March that the company accepted that it would have to stop violating a shelter-in-place order and <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/tesla-to-suspend-production-march-23-in-response-to-coronavirus-2020-3">temporarily shut down</a> its 10,000 worker Fremont, California factory, which is located in a county hard hit by the virus. It accepted the same fate for its Gigafactory 2 in Buffalo, New York.Tesla's giant Gigafactory 1 outside Reno, Nevada, though, remains open, despite the fact that a worker tested positive for COVID-19 in late March. Tesla informed employees about the ill employee on Sunday, March 29. So even now, as the entire world accepts the grim reality of life in the throes of a global pandemic, Musk's empire is leaving some worried, desperate employees without answers. This has left a gap in leadership, some workers said. Rumors of illness are flying around Tesla's factories, hourly employees are wondering how they'll feed themselves and their families, and the fear of losing one's job is omnipresent.Business Insider spoke with ten Tesla employees around the country, and all of them bemoaned Musk's handling of the crisis. One employee, who requested anonymity for fear of losing his job, told Business Insider that for a man who seems to understand the power of exponential growth in tech, the concept seems lost on Musk when it comes to epidemiology.The lives of Tesla workers depend on all of that changing, and fast.Tesla did not respond to requests for comment for this story. There would be five meetings - one for each shift plus a bonus for non-shift employees - over March 3rd and March 5th, according to the email which was viewed by Business Insider. Meetings this large shut down production, workers said. Tesla organized the all-hands meeting in an effort to recognize the tremendous progress the company has made over the last year. It had built a factory in China in record time, it was about to launch production of a new vehicle - the Model Y, and it had once again (for the second time in company's 15 year history) posted two back to back profitable quarters. That is to say that this meeting was to be a celebration. Two Gigafactory 1 employees told Business Insider that free food was served and everyone got a Tesla hat. One employee said Chris Lister, a VP of Operations at the factory, addressed the company and told everyone to look to their neighbor and give them a high five."Super irresponsible in my opinion, given the circumstances," said one Gigafactory 1 employee who also requested anonymity for fear of reprisal from the company.A few days later, on March 6th, Elon Musk sent a tweet that said "The coronavirus panic is dumb." Musk made this comment even though his business had already been impacted by the coronavirus.In late January, Tesla was forced to shut down its Shanghai factory because of the coronavirus. After more than a month of denial, the Chinese government was beginning to accept that the coronavirus had reached beyond Wuhan - where the virus first came in contact with humans - and even beyond Hubei, the province where Wuhan is capital. At first, under order by authorities, the Tesla Shanghai plant instituted temperature checks and other measures to monitor the virus. But at a certain point, the Chinese government realized that was not enough, and like every other business in the country, Tesla was shut down until February 10th. Unfortunately, that shut down has left China's economy in ruin. A market that had once held so much promise for Tesla is now in the beginning of a deep recession.So by early February, after Tesla's factory was forced to shut down in China, Musk was likely familiar with the havoc that the coronavirus could wreak. <h1>Life in flux</h1>On March 5th Tesla put up new guidelines for how employees should handle the coronavirus. Those guidelines were posted on Tesla's internal website, but employees were not informed that they existed via email. In fact, aside from an <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/tesla-warns-workers-of-coronavirus-phishing-scams-in-leaked-email-2020-3">e-mail warning employees</a> of coronavirus phishing scams that could put company intellectual property at risk, Tesla had not sent out any health warnings, or notification of attendance policy changes, workers said. According to an early draft of the rules posted internally, viewed by Business Insider, hourly workers who took time off because of the coronavirus would only be paid for eight hours of their 12-hour shifts. A few days later the company updated its policy and said that it would pay for the full 12 hours.But among workers, there were still questions about crucial details. Would they have to use paid time off (PTO)? Could they be fired for taking too much time off? What about employees who had, or lived with people who had, preexisting conditions that could make them susceptible to COVID-19? "People save up their PTO so that they can do things, not so that they can isolate themselves from a public-health crisis," said one salesperson, who asked to remain anonymous for fear of retribution. Business Insider spoke to three people who said they are worried about this issue. One had a mother with lung cancer, others had respiratory and other issues themselves. All said they felt it was unfair that they would have to use paid time off to leave work. One said that management didn't really understand the policy, and direct questions went unanswered. Nearly all of the employees Business Insider spoke to said that they and their coworkers were afraid of being fired for missing work. Elon Musk's social media habit hasn't helped either, according to employees. Across the board, employees said that his behavior in public and toward them has been reckless, and that he's dismissing a crisis. Beyond saying the panic was "dumb," Musk has tweeted misinformation about children being <a href="https://twitter.com/elonmusk/status/1240758710646878208">"essentially immune"</a> from the virus, and <a href="https://twitter.com/elonmusk/status/1240486275892662273" target="_blank" rel="noopener">waffled about Tesla making ventilators</a> for hospitals in need, though the company has started to deliver machines to medical facilities. Meanwhile, some salespeople and factory workers said they were worried there isn't enough hand sanitizer and Clorox wipes to go around. They said they worry about interacting with costumers and coworkers in close space together. Seven of the employees said that Tesla was not enforcing social distancing measures."It [the virus] could spread real easy," said one Fremont worker who requested anonymity.On March 12th Tesla canceled an internal career fair at the Gigafactory 1, according to an email viewed by Business Insider. It did not explain why.<h1>The best of your knowledge</h1>On March 16th Elon Musk <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/coronavirus-elon-musk-tesla-workers-can-stay-home-covid-19-2020-3">addressed his workers via email.</a> He said that to the best of his knowledge not one of the 56,000 employees at Tesla had tested positive for COVID-19. He also said that he believed only 0.01% of the world's population would get the virus."My frank opinion remains that the harm from the coronavirus panic far exceeds that of the virus itself," he said. "If there is a massive redirection of medical resources out of proportion to the danger, it will result in less available care to those with critical medical needs, which does not serve the greater good."This view was in stark contrast with what was going on in the outside world. The same day Musk sent this email, Alameda County, where Tesla's California plant is located, <a href="https://www.sfchronicle.com/local-politics/article/Bay-Area-must-shelter-in-place-Only-15135014.php">was ordered to shelter-in-place</a> and non-essential businesses were ordered to shutter. New York, where Tesla's Buffalo Gigafactory 2 is located, had been in a state of emergency since March 7th.Musk's factories, however, would stay open. Guidelines instructing employees to use PTO if they were ill or concerned that they could be infected would not change. In a March 18th email, Tesla Human Resources attorney Valerie Workman sent a memo to workers stating that if an employee didn't have any PTO left to stay home during this global pandemic they could borrow it from the company, or they could simply take unpaid time off."There will be no disciplinary action for attendance based on health or the impossibility to come to work," she wrote.But for some Tesla workers, there isn't much of a choice, especially the hourly workers on the factory floor. Those who can't afford to miss work are finding themselves doing double duty too, according to three employees who spoke to Business Insider. They have to make up for the employees who have left. At Fremont, meanwhile, some employees said they were worried about violating the county's shelter-in-place order. The media was breathlessly covering whether or not Tesla was in violation. Tesla argued that it was not, saying that it was an essential business that should remain open. On March 18th, Alameda County said that the factory could stay open, but <a href="https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/ryanmac/tesla-fremont-factory-stays-open-coronavirus-sheriff">could not manufacture cars.</a> Two Tesla employees who worked at the factory on that date told Business Insider that Tesla was running some production lines that day. <h1>Shut it down</h1>"It's just insane how they repeatedly keep getting away with disregarding law enforcement orders," the Gigafactory 1 worker told Business Insider on March 19th. In Nevada, they said, employees were angry and nervous about what was happening in California. They felt they were being kept in the dark.Over the week in an effort to show more concern about the virus, Tesla had put up signs about workplace hygiene social distancing around Gigafactory 1. It also removed half the chairs in the factory cafeteria, which had just led to fierce competition for seating, said one employee.<a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/tesla-to-suspend-production-march-23-in-response-to-coronavirus-2020-3">Everyone at Tesla got an email</a> about shutting down Fremont and Buffalo at 1:42 PM PST on March 19th. It was from Valerie Workman, and said that after talking to authorities the factories would suspend operations beginning at the end of the day March 23rd. It also said that employees suspended factories would receive paid time off. Employees at Gigafactory 1 received an email from Lister on March 20th saying that their plant would remain open as it was an essential energy producer shortly after that. The next day the line to get inside the factory stretched long outside the door as employees had their temperatures checked before they entered, according to a worker who shared a photo of the lines with Business Insider.Of course, the horror of the coronavirus pandemic is just beginning in the United States, according to experts. So this is a situation that remains in flux. To address that, Workman sent a company-wide message subject line "Send Your Questions to COVIDHRANSWERS" on March 20th, which was viewed by Business Insider. It included an email where employees could direct questions.As so many company emails do - even in normal times - Workman's note elicited a reply all (also viewed by Business Insider) from one frustrated worker. It read: "No one can give me an answer so why waste my time and get myself all frustrated ????? It is a known fact that our country is governed by politicians who are comedians in disguise. From making every Indian laugh at their utterly false promises to disrupting the Parliament day after day and being involved in scams of massive proportions, our politicians are guilty of indulging in them all. 
 
While they might not excel at what they’ve been elected to do (no surprises there), we can’t help but admit that our politicians do have some hidden talents. Unfortunately, they are unable to hone these talents due to the immense burden of governing a country on their shoulders. (also alternatively known as the burden of enforcing a ban on everything we’ve ever loved and cared for) 
 
To make things easier for our beloved politicians in case they ever decide to take a leap from the world of politics, also known as the world of looting the taxpayer’s money, Business Insider draws up a list of alternate career suggestions for eight ministers depending on what their skill sets are.

Eight politicians who should give these alternate careers a serious thought

At the center of the claims is the Canadian drugmaker's relationship with a mysterious company called <a href="http://www.philidorrxservices.com/">Philidor RX</a> services.Philidor is a "specialty pharmacy," which sells Valeant's drugs directly to patients while handling insurance claims on the customers behalf.But its salesforce has a history of aggressive and seemingly dishonest marketing, according to complaints filed with the Better Business Bureau and outlined on messages boards where people can track 1-800 numbers.The practices, which were also explained to Business Insider by a former Philidor employee, include calling potential customers with plans to fill prescriptions that they never requested, and promising customers one co-payment amount before ultimately billing them at a higher rate. Valeant isn't the only drugmaker to use specialty pharmacies, but, as BMO Capital analysts wrote in a note this week, its relationship with Philidor "seems different."Philidor's existence only came to light on Monday, when Valeant disclosed during its third quarter earnings call that it had a special relationship with Philidor. Valeant rolls Philidor's earnings into its own, has the option to buy the pharmacy, and is Philidor's only customer.Specialty pharmacies account for about 10% of Valeant's sales, according to BMO, but there's no mention of Philidor in the company's annual report.Investors have wiped $20 billion off Valeant's market value this week, after concerns about the relationship with Philidor were raised by short seller Andrew Left.Philidor and Valeant have both said that Philidor is part of a "network" of other pharmacies connected to it, though we don't know much about them since <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/valeant-accusations-highlight-special-pharmacies-2015-10">specialty pharmacies like Philidor</a> have been considered an industry advantage and secret.<h2>The basics</h2>Business Insider spoke with a former Philidor employee who explained how the company works. This person asked to remain anonymous because of past and current relationships with Philidor employees.Here's how Philidor helps Valeant sell its drugs:When Valeant's drug-sales representatives visit a doctor's office they leave literature that promises that, through Philidor, a customer can get drugs for only the cost of a co-pay, whether or not it is covered by their insurance plan. Sometimes they promise completely free trials of drugs as well. A lot of these drugs aren't life or death - they're anti-aging drugs like Retin-A or acne drugs like Ziana. But they can be expensive.All the customer has to do get the drugs is call Philidor and the pharmacy will mail them to the customer's home. Philidor also says it will not charge a customer's insurance company. However, they do ask customers for their insurance information to verify that their insurance company is private and commercial. Philidor does not accept government insurance - Medicaid, Medicare or Tricare (which is for people in the military), according to the person.<h2>Customer complaints</h2>But customers have complained the Philidor does actually charge their insurance company for drugs after patients sign on.Here's what one unhappy customer told the <a href="http://www.bbb.org/washington-dc-eastern-pa/business-reviews/pharmacies/philidor-rx-services-llc-in-hatboro-pa-236002214/Complaints#breakdown">Better Business Bureau (emphasis ours):</a>Hello. My child had an appointment with a local dermatologist. While we were there we were referred to Philidor RX Services for filling two acne prescriptions. The dermatologist assured me that I would be charged only $25 and nothing more from our health insurance company. She also gave us a coupon to use for one of the prescriptions that would make it free. I called Philidor and gave them all of the information that was provided to me by the dermatologist. Philidor charged me $220 from my FSA account ($110 for each prescription). I contacted Philidor and spoke with a man who said his name was Mickey. Mickey told me that I needed to submit a statement from my insurance company showing that $220 was withdrawn from my FSA account. I did as requested and have sent the information via email to Philidor, Attn: Mickey, twice. I have received no response and no refund.Another complaint is from a customer who was promised a certain rate and then told they owe more. I provided all of the information requested, including shipping, insurance, and the free trial data. The shipment was to arrive in 2-3 days... On the third day, Philidor called and said I owed them $35 for the prescription (my copay amount) and that they would need my credit card information. When I informed them of the free offer, they claimed to not have the data in their system. I waited to go on a trip for them to send me the medicine and not have to leave without it. Once I obtain my free trial, I will transfer the prescription to a reliable pharmacy. I did not, and now will not, provide them my credit card information as they seem less than reliable and provide zero assurance of protecting my data.The BBB rates Philidor an F, mostly because it doesn't respond to customer complaints.<h2>Call center complaints</h2>People who aren't even Philidor customers also complain about the company because of its telemarketing servicesThe complaints below are all connected to <a href="http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-480-405-2923">Philidor's phone number</a> (some of these have been edited for clarity):This guy said that he was from Philidor and must get more information from me before he could send me my prescription drugs. I told him No! He told me that President Obama was going to make sure that I couldn't get my prescription if I didn't give him my information! I hung up.Got a voicemail from "Elise" from the same pharmacy hoax. Said they needed more info before they could fill my prescription. I haven't even been to the doctor. I could hear in the background that it was a call center, not a pharmacy! Ugh. I will report this number.Got a call from Alec at Philidor pharmacy last night at 5:09pm for my husband. They said they have his prescription ready and need more info before they can ship it and to call an 855 phone number back. The background sounded like a call center. Our insurance plan doesn't work this way, I wasn't home to get the call, and I won't call back. Obvious scam... be careful.Philidor isn't licensed to operate in California because its application to register there was denied because the company made "false statements of fact." But according to <a href="http://www.propublica.org/article/documents-raise-questions-about-valeant-pharmacy-relationships-california">a report by ProPublica</a>, it bought a stake in a Los Angeles pharmacy called Wilshire Pharmacy in order to do business there.People in California have complained of getting calls from Philidor's telemarketing number too. In a response to a posting to identify unknown callers, <a href="http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-480-405-2923">one person left this note.</a>This is a robocall from Philidor RX pharmacy of Arizona. It has been denied a license to operate in California and is violating the law by calling persons in California.This isn't to say that no one is happy with Philidor. Some customers said they were pleased that Philidor was able to get them the drugs they need fast and at a lower rate than insurance companies would. <h2>Phillidor's response</h2>Business Insider reached out to Philidor to seek comment on the customer complaints and the former employee's description of the company's strategy.In an emailed statement, Gretchen Wisehart, general counsel for Phillidor, said: "Customer service is a core tenet of Philidor Rx Services. Our company exists to serve customers by providing the medication they need for their health and quality of life. Our ability to do that well is the key to our success."We take seriously any expression of dissatisfaction. However, the percentage of dissatisfied customers is minuscule when compared to the number of customers who are pleased to receive their medication efficiently and conveniently."Valeant did not respond to Business Insider's requests for commentin time for publication. Valeant has denied any accounting wrongdoing.<h2>Who are these people?</h2>Philidor's existence was a secret until Monday and little is known about the company. Its website only offers a phone number to call for its services, and a link to job listings at the company - mostly call center and customer service jobs in Pennsylvania and Arizona. The company's CEO, Andrew Davenport spent most of his career designing graphics for pharmaceutical companies, according to the former Philidor employee. All new company employees are told his story.Through his industry connections, he came to form Philidor with a small staff sometime before 2013. That's when Philidor applied for its license in California. California's department of consumer affairs, in <a href=".pharmacy.ca.gov/enforcement/accusations/si145246.pdf">explaining its denial</a> of the license, cited a number of cases of Davenport's dishonesty, including about Philidor's shareholders. Only on Wednesday did Valeant admit that Philidor has a call center in Pennsylvania that services Philidor and its "network pharmacies." But we don't really know exactly what's in that network. Only one other company has been identified as being in that network. It's called R&amp;O Pharmacy, and it was highlighted by Citron Research.As proof of its allegation that Valeant is engaging in accounting fraud, Citron provided a court document filed by R&amp;O. R&amp;O claimed that Valeant sent it an invoice for $69 million, but that it had never received product or sold product for Valeant.Complicating matters, Philidor itself has an option to purchase R&amp;O, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/philidor-says-it-has-option-to-buy-ro-2015-10">a fact</a> also disclosed only on Wednesday night.Valeant has said the allegations against it are untrue, and it plans to hold a conference call on Monday to rebut them.
