The club provided no further details about the death of the 27-year-old Benitez, who moved from Mexican club America to play in Qatar this year.
"The club would like to offer its sincere condolences to the family of the player," the club said in a statement. "His sudden departure is a big shock for each member of the technical and administrative staff. He was a player that over the short period he was here was regarded for his high moral character."
El Jaish played Qatar Sports on Sunday in the Sheik Jassim Cup, a warm-up tournament for the upcoming football season. Benitez, who also spent a season in England with Birmingham, was in the lineup.
The match was played in hot and humid conditions, which are typical of the Persian Gulf at this time of year.
"The player participated for the first time with the team during yesterday's match against Qatar Sports Club in the Sheik Jassim Cup without complaining of any health problems," the club said, adding that it was awaiting results from a medical report that could be released later Monday.
A powerful, destabilizing striker, Benitez was the Mexican league's top scorer last season and helped his team win the championship.
The Mexico City-based America is one of the country's most popular teams.
"The Club America football team deeply regrets the death of one of the most recent America idols, and shares the sorrow felt by the entire Benitez Betancourt family, and the sport in Mexico, Ecuador and the world," the club said on its website.
Qatar will host the 2022 World Cup and the searing temperatures have prompted many former football stars as well as FIFA President Sepp Blatter to call for the competition to be moved to the cooler, winter months. Blatter plans to ask FIFA's executive committee later this year to move it.

Now, reportedly <keyword id="421566" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Star-Sports">Star Sports</keyword> has told advertisers to play only for the matches that have been played. The advertisers have also been given a choice to continue with the deals when BCCI decides to resume the league, stated a PTI report. Star India had won IPL’s TV and Digital rights in 2018 for a five-year period for a whooping Rs 16,347.50 crore ($2.55 billion) which would amount to Rs 54.5 crore per game in a 60-match season. This year, however, the league had to be suspended after 29 matches after several players and others within the IPL ecosystem tested positive. This year, Star Sports had on-boarded 18 sponsors and over 100 advertisers across multiple brand categories. The sports channel was expected to earn ad revenue of Rs 3,600- Rs 3,800 crore (including revenue from <keyword id="2739840" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Hotstar">Hotstar</keyword>). Last week, Star India network revealed that it had garnered a cumulative reach of 352 million in the first 26 matches of IPL 2021 compared to 349 million in the corresponding number of matches in IPL 2020.

Held every other year - alternating between Europe and the states - the Ryder Cup is a three-day team event, featuring many of the sport's best golfers as they compete for country and continent in a variety of individual and team match play events. If you've never watched before, now is the perfect time to start. The only problem with the Ryder Cup is that the format can, admittedly, get a bit confusing. What's the difference between foursome match play and four-ball match play? What do those phrases even mean? How does the scoring work again? Don't worry; this year we've got you covered. Below is a full breakdown of the event. Everything you could possibly wonder about the Ryder Cup, explained. The weather for the weekend is perfect: low 70s, no rain. The history: Since 1979, when golfers from continental Europe were included (before it was just Team Great Britain), Team Europe has won 10 times and retained the trophy once as a result of a tie. Team USA has won seven times.The scoring: Every event in the Ryder cup is match play. Wait, what's match play again? If you score better than your opponent on a hole, you get one point. So: If, for example, Jordan Spieth birdies a par-4 and Rory McIlroy makes a quintuple bogey (here's hoping!), Spieth wins the hole. If Spieth makes a quadruple bogey and McIlroy makes a quintuple, Spieth wins the hole. A player or group who has won one more hole than its opponent is said to be "1 up." The player or group to win the most holes in a match wins a point (more on this in a bit). You get it.A match can also end early if a golfer is leading his opponent by more shots than holes they have left to play. If, say, Spieth is 7-up on McIlroy after 12 holes, that match is over. Spieth wins, in golf parlance, "7 and 6" because, again, he led by seven strokes with six holes to go.Some additional match-play terms to know: "All square": when a match is tied. "Dormie" : when a golfer or team leads by the same number of strokes as holes remaining in the match. If, say, Spieth leads McIlroy by two shots with two holes to go, Spieth is dormie. If, say, Spieth beats McIlroy, Team USA gets one point. If they tie, both teams earn half a point.The first team to 14.5 points wins the Ryder Cup. If the tournament finishes tied at 14-14, Europe would keep the Ryder Cup because they are the reigning champs.The schedule: On Friday and Saturday, a total of 16 team matches take place over four sessions. More specifically: on the first two days, eight four-ball matches and eight foursome matches happen (we'll get to these), on Friday morning, Friday afternoon, Saturday morning, and Saturday afternoon. Sixteen matches equals 16 points up for grabs.On Sunday, the remaining 12 points will be contested in singles match play. Whichever of the four golfers makes the best score on an individual hole wins the hole for his pair, and match play rules apply: whichever pair wins the match subsequently earns a point for their Ryder Cup Team.So: say Jordan Spieth and Bubba Watson are playing Rory McIlroy and Justin Rose in four-ball. If Spieth, Watson, and McIlroy all make par on the 1st hole, and Rose makes birdie, McIlroy/Rose win the hole and go one up. If all four players make the same score, they remain all square.Now, even if the aggregate score is the same between the two teams (one team makes a birdie/bogey, say, whereas the other team makes two pars - which would total the same number of strokes), the team with the lowest individual score takes the hole. Foursomes: The most fun event of the Ryder Cup. Here, teams of two alternate shots, playing one ball between them. So: if Rory McIlroy tees off and pushes his drive into the woods, Justin Rose would have to play that next shot, and if he hits into a bunker on the edge of the green (again, here's hoping!) then McIlroy would have to scramble out of the sand, and so forth. Again, standard match play rules apply: whichever team takes fewer shots to get the ball in the cup wins the hole, and whichever duo wins the match collects a point for either Team USA or Team Europe. If McIlroy makes his putt, he can still tee off on the subsequent hole.What's fun about the foursomes is the strategy: who is the more reliable with the driver? Basically, the top seven European players (in terms of ranking) qualify automatically, as do the top eight Americans. The rest of the teams are picked by team captains. Davis Love III is the captain of Team USA and Darren Clarke is the captain Team Europe. Both teams also have a collection of "vice captains", including Tiger Woods. The captains and vice captains are effectively coaches, so expect to see Tiger, Bubba Watson, Ian Poulter, and others pop up over the course of the weekend.The maximum number of matches an individual golfer can play is five: two matches Friday, two matches Saturday, and a singles match on Sunday. That's highly unlikely (not to mention tiring) and most will play fewer than that.Before the start of each day, the captains share their teams. <div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image">DateplayDateplay cofounder Vana Koutsomitis.</div></div></div>Vana Koutsomitis, a runner-up on TV show "The Apprentice," is looking to raise £120,000 for the dating app that she pitched to Lord Sugar in the final of the BBC show.DatePlay, as the app is known, will use interactive games to try and understand your personality before recommending possible matches for singletons to swipe left or right on. The app is currently under development and the money will be used predominantly for marketing purposes. Oxford University graduate Koutsomitis is hoping to raise the capital on <a href="https://www.seedrs.com/dateplay" target="_blank">equity crowdfunding platform Seedrs</a>, where investors can pledge anything from £10 to more than £10,000. Koutsomitis is kicking off the crowdfunding campaign on Tuesday and she will have to hit her funding target within a month if she wants to see any of the money. Interestingly, she's already raised £75,090 of the £120,000 target from a number of private investors and that's reflected on DatePlay's Seedrs page, meaning she's only got to raise another £45,000. The American-born businesswoman claims her dating app, which she's cofounded with university friend Joris Magenti, is unlike Tinder, Happn, Match.com, and any other dating platform that's currently on the market for that matter. "The difference between DatePlay and the others is that we add an element of fun to the dating experience by integrating games into the interface," she told Business Insider at the Ham Yard Hotel in London earlier this month. "Tinder can engage you for short periods of time but once you have enough matches and once you've swiped left and right enough times, you start to get a little bit crazy. You're just like, over it." Koutsomitis left her job at Japanese investment bank Namora in order to pursue her dream of becoming an entrepreneur and launch DatePlay, which is targeted at 18-24 year olds. Some 20,000 people have already pre-registered for DatePlay, which is yet to be fully developed and therefore isn't available in the App Store or the Google Play store. The app will eventually be free to download but users will have to pay £4.99 a month if they want to access premium features like event invitations, blocked ads, increased messages and being shown at the top of the match list. <div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image">DatePlayThe DatePlay app is similar to Tinder in many respects.</div></div></div><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image">DatePlay</div></div></div>Before any matching takes place, DatePlay will get users to play a quick game, which Koutsomitis describes as a "Buzzfeed-style quiz," in order to determine some of their personality traits. "You log in and the app takes you directly to the game," Koutsomitis explained. "So you start playing immediately. Through the game we're going to determine your personality, who you are, and what you want. And then we're going to match you. We'll show you your first match and your compatibility. It's up to you to then swipe left or right if you like the person or not. We believe that you need to see the person's photo in order to determine if you're attracted to them or not so we have the second step."<div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image">DatePlayDatePlay is designed for 18-24 year olds.</div></div></div>Initially there will be just one game in DatePlay but Koutsomitis said more will be introduced in the coming months. When asked how the game is able to determine a user's personality traits, Koutsomitis said: "We're using a PhD to develop the games. It's based on scientific research. I'm not the scientific expert so it's hard for me to tell you in an educated way the exact personality matches."Harry Briggs, a startup investor that studied psychology at the University of Oxford, told Business Insider that games can be used to identify what kind of personality and behavioural characteristics someone has, such as openness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness, resilience, neuroticism, etc."The big question, though, is whether DatePlay's 'compatibility score' is a valid measure of actual dating compatibility," said Briggs. "The limited research I've read suggests that dating outcomes still appear to be most correlated with similar levels of physical attractiveness, societal status and educational background, obvious and unromantic though those sound.
