On the initiative of Delhi Police, a 'Plasma Donation Campaign' has been launched at <keyword id="7683594" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="The-All-India-Institute-of-Medical-Sciences">the All India Institute of Medical Sciences</keyword> (AIIMS), New Delhi, on Sunday. Union Minister of Health &amp; <keyword id="9604277" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="family-welfare-dr-harsh-vardhan">Family Welfare Dr Harsh Vardhan</keyword>, was the Chief Guest while Commissioner of Police, S.N. Shrivastava, was the Guest of Honour, on the occasion. "The objective of the campaign is to encourage people to come forward to donate plasma to be used for the treatment of Covid-19 patients," said <keyword id="9604276" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="additional-pro-delhi-police-anil-mittal">Additional PRO Delhi Police Anil Mittal</keyword>. In all, 26 personnel including a woman constable of Delhi Police kicked off the campaign by donating their plasma. "More than 650 Delhi Police personnel are likely to donate their plasma during the week-long campaign," the officer said. Dr Randeep Guleria, Director AIIMS, appreciated the initiative of Delhi Police and termed the donor police personnel 'Super Corona Warriors', as being affected by the deadly virus they first fought against it and then voluntarily donated their plasma to save lives of others. He appealed to people to come forward and donate plasma as it would help treat critical patients. Speaking on the occasion, Shrivastava underlined, "dealing with coronavirus has been a unique experience as none of us knew what to do. Police had two major responsibilities -- to maintain law &amp; order and to enforce the lockdown. At the same time, managing our own health and motivation of force were also a challenge. Being visible arms of the government, police must ensure implementation of government's directions." Being frontline warriors police personnel were most susceptible to exposure of the virus. As a result more than 2,500 personnel got infected and a dozen succumbed to the virus in the line of duty. However, the recovery rate is more than 84 per cent as more than 2,100 personnel have recovered and resumed duties. Lauding the efforts of Delhi Police for taking initiative to build plasma bank, Harsh Vardhan, called the event as pious, noble and inspiring in its spirit. "Delhi Police personnel have set an example by voluntarily donating plasma in order to save lives of others, while ignoring their own sufferings. It will inspire other corona warriors to donate their plasma," he said. New Delhi, Jul 7 () AAP MLA and spokesperson Raghav Chadha has appealed to recovered COVID-19 patients to come forward to donate their plasma, saying they are warriors who defeated the disease and they now have a chance to become saviours. He said a pint of a recovered patient's plasma can save up to two lives. Last week, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal inaugurated the country's first plasma bank at the state-run Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences (ILBS) in Vasant Kunj to facilitate plasma therapy treatment for coronavirus patients. "Not very often does God give one an opportunity to save another life. I think that the opportunity is given to the chosen ones. All those who have defeated COVID-19 are warriors but they can also become saviours by donating their plasma," the Aam Aadmi Party MLA from Rajinder Nagar told . On the plasma bank, Chadha, who is overseeing the project, said, "The challenge that we face is convincing people to come forward and make plasma donations." He said some people are scared of visiting hospitals. "We have set up a team of trained doctors. These doctors counsel the potential donor and convince them to come forward and donate plasma," he said. "Separate lifts have been designated at the plasma bank for plasma donors. Plasma bank has been set up at a location which is disconnected from the main hospital so that patients don't have to go through that (hospital) to reach the plasma centre. The comfort of the donor is ensured," he added. Chadha said the process of plasma donation is painless and lasts about 40 minutes. It starts with a well-being session, followed by the actual medical process. "We have received over 30 donations till now at Delhi's Plasma Bank and are expecting many more in the next couple of weeks," he said. He said all necessary precautions and steps are being taken at the medical facility to ensure that the exercise results in helping COVID-19 patients recover. COVID-19 survivors in the 18 to 60 age group and with weight above 50 kg are eligible to donate plasma after completion of the 14-day recovery period. JK Super Cement's new campaign is an appeal to covid survivors to donate plasma

Lucknow, May 12 () Two recovered coronavirus patients at the King George's Medical University in Lucknow have donated their plasma to treat severally-ill cases of COVID-19, doctors said on Tuesday. "Two corona warriors, Faizan and Javed, donated their plasma late on Monday night after 'iftaar'. Faizan's plasma is AB positive while that of Javed is A positive," Dr Tulika Chandra, Head of Department of Transfusion Medicine, KGMU told . "With this, five corona warriors have so far donated their plasma to the KGMU," Chandra added. She said that the three other donors include KGMU's resident doctor Tauseef Khan, a woman doctor from Canada and another patient, who recovered from the disease. On April 27, a 58-year-old doctor from Orai in Jalaun district became the first recipient of plasma therapy and the donor was the woman doctor from Canada, the first COVID-19 patient admitted to KGMU. However, the doctor from Orai died on May 9 following a heart attack. Convalescent Plasma Therapy is an experimental procedure for treating COVID-19 patients. In this treatment, plasma, a blood component, from a cured patient is transfused to a critically ill coronavirus patient. The blood of a person who has recovered from COVID-19 develops antibodies to fight the virus. This therapy uses the antibodies from the blood of a cured patient to treat another critical patient. The Union health ministry, however, has advised against considering the therapy to be regular treatment for coronavirus, adding it should be used for research and trial purposes till there is a robust scientific evidence to support its efficacy. New Delhi, Jun 30 () The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has urged its personnel who have recovered from coronavirus to be good samaritans and donate their blood plasma to save lives of others infected persons, officials said on Tuesday. CRPF Director General (DG) A P Maheshwari has written a communication to the troops of the about 3.25 lakh personnel strong paramilitary force to become the agents of happiness for those who are suffering from the disease. The CRPF, as per latest data, has a total of 1,219 coronavirus cases, out of which 655 have recovered and 555 are under treatment. "In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, the CRPF donned the role of COVID warriors. We have proactively reached out to our breathren and helped in crisis." "About 1,000 of our personnel contracted the disease. More than half of them have also recovered by now. But thousands of our countrymen are still struggling in hospitals. We can help them in their fight against the virus by donating plasma," the CRPF chief said. He also mentioned the name of three jawans of the force -- constables Ganesh Kumar, Manjeet Singh and Gurtej Singh -- who "voluntarily donated their convalescent plasma recently to save COVID-19 patients." "Those of our warriors who have defeated the virus themselves can help some of our fellow countrymen defeat the virus as well by donating plasma." "It involves a simple procedure with no cost attached. It will earn the donor a life-time of satisfaction of having saved somebody's life. Just think over," the DG wrote to his personnel. Official data shows that the five Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) or paramilitary forces of the CRPF, BSF, ITBP, CISF and SSB and two other central forces of NSG and NDRF have had over 3,300 cases of the pandemic. Out of these, over 2,000 personnel have been cured and about 1,300 are under treatment at various health facilities across the country. Plasma therapy involves a minor medical procedure where the blood of a person who has recovered from the disease is taken as the person has developed antibodies against the virus. The donated plasma helps a coronavirus infected patient to better fight the disease by developing enhanced levels of immunity. For a person who wishes to donate plasma, he or she should have tested negative for COVID-19 at least two weeks before the donation. These central forces, with a combined strength of about 10 lakh personnel, render a variety of security duties, law and order management, border guarding, counter-insurgency and counter-terrorist operations and disaster rescue and relief under the command of the Union home ministry. New Delhi, Apr 27 () Amid reports of many Tablighi Jamaat members volunteering to donate their plasma for treatment of COVID-19 patients, Union Minority Affairs Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi on Monday said those who committed the sin of spreading the virus through their "criminal conduct" are now claiming to be "corona warriors". Naqvi said there is a "well-planned dirty Tablighi conspiracy" to prove every Indian Muslim as a Tablighi. His remarks come after 10 members of Tablighi Jamaat, who attended its congregation and tested positive for COVID-19, have come forward and donated their plasma to treat severally-ill coronavirus patients in the national capital. Several Tablighi Jamaat members at different quarantine centres have also volunteered to donate their plasma for treatment of COVID-19 patients, sources said. "Those Tablighi committed sin to spread corona through their 'criminal conduct' are claiming themselves to be 'corona warriors'. Amazing..instead of being ashamed of their crime,Tablighi(s) are insulting lakhs of corona warriors," Naqvi said in a tweet. "This is called 'chori aur seena zori'," Naqvi added. "Of course some patriotic Indian Muslims have donated plasma to the needy but it's not correct to call all of them Tablighi. There is a 'well-planned dirty Tablighi conspiracy' to prove every Indian Muslim as Tablighi," he said. Odisha's COVID-19 cases cross 39,000-mark

(Eds: Updating with ex gratia, other details) Ludhiana/Chandigarh, Apr 18 () The 52-year-old Ludhiana assistant commissioner of police, who was undergoing treatment for COVID-19 at a private hospital, died on Saturday. ACP (North) Anil Kohli breathed his last at the SPS Hospital, Ludhiana, Civil Surgeon Rajesh Bagga said. On Friday, the Punjab government had given its go-ahead to the hospital to conduct plasma therapy on the police officer. Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh announced Rs 50 lakh ex gratia to the next of kin of the deceased. He said a similar amount will be paid to the family of any officer who dies in the line of duty due to coronavirus. "Sad News ACP Anil Kohli passed away. Died of #COVID-19. Was admitted in SPS Hospital Ludhiana," Ludhiana district public relations office tweeted. The officer had tested positive for coronavirus on April 12. His wife, a security guard and a station house officer tested positive on Friday. The Mohali district administration on Saturday morning sent a fully-recovered coronavirus patient to the hospital to use his plasma for treating ACP Kohli. "District Administration Mohali is dispatching one young fully recovered/ cured COVID-19 patient to SPS/Apollo Hospital Ludhiana. His plasma may be used to try and cure the other COVID-19 positive patients by plasma therapy," Punjab's Special Chief Secretary K B S Sidhu tweeted. The chief minister and Punjab DGP Dinkar Gupta condoled the death of the police officer. "Sad to share that we had lost Gurmail Singh Kanungo yesterday &amp; ACP Anil Kohli in Ludhiana to #Covid19 today. In this moment of crisis, losing our Corona Warriors is a big loss for the State. I join their families in this time of grief. Rest assured Punjab will stand by them," Amarinder Singh said on Twitter. New Delhi, Jul 1 () A 49-year-old Delhi Police Inspector posted with the Special Cell has died due to COVID-19 at South Delhi's Max hospital, police said on Wednesday. Inspector Sanjeev Kumar Yadav was on ventilator support since his condition was critical and died on Tuesday night, they said. He had complained of fever and breathlessness, following which he was tested for COVID-19. His result came positive after which he was admitted to Max hospital around 15 days back, they said. He also underwent plasma therapy and was out on ventilator since he was in a critical state, a senior police officer said. Yadav was posted with the south western range of the Special Cell and received the police medal for gallantry this year. He was earlier also posted with the crime branch of the Delhi Police, police said. Taking to twitter, the Special Cell said it stands in solidarity with Yadav's family and friends. "Special Cell stands in solidarity with the family and friends of our brave colleague Inspector Sanjeev Yadav, PMG, who has entered another world leaving behind a rich legacy... As we mourn the death of our brother-in-arms, we are inspired to reaffirm our oath to the Constitution and to the citizens of this great nation..," the Special Cell tweeted. Taking to twitter, Lieutenant Governor of Delhi Anil Baijal also expressed condolences. "Extremely saddened at the death of Insp Sanjeev Kumar Yadav in the line of duty fighting COVID-19.
