It also partnered with IIT Delhi and Plaksha University to manage over 500 beds. “The demand for fully furnished, fully maintained, internet-ready accommodations and innovative services has increased manifold. We are confident that our growing presence in the student housing segment will enable us to scale 100K beds by 2019-end,” said Rohit Kapoor, CEO, New Real Estate Businesses, OYO. Oyo claims to provide students with amenities such as surveillance and security, Wi-Fi and food.The prices start at ₹6,500 and goes up to ₹12,999 per bed, per month. OYO Life launched in 2018 and is present in these cities – Delhi and NCR, Pune and Bangalore. They operate over 30,000 beds. The competition in the student housing segment is heating up. Recently, home rental startup Nestaway too said that it will enter the segment. Stanza Living is another player who has been catering to this segment for the last two years. According to a report released today by Student Accommodation Provider Association of India (SAPFI) and CBRE, the student housing sector will attract as much as $700 million investment and add 600,000 beds by 2023.

<ul><li>A total of 40 CEOs and businessmen are raising ₹20 billion to build a university named Plaksha. </li><li>The university will be built over 50 acres near Chandigarh. </li><li>The idea behind the university is bringing technological solutions for society ranging from <keyword id="107950" type="TECHNOLOGY" weightage="20" keywordseo="artificial-intelligence">Artificial Intelligence</keyword>, Machine Learning to Robotics. </li></ul>India’s top entrepreneurs and businessmen are pooling their resources to build a technology university aimed at teaching emerging technology, innovation and entrepreneurship. The university, which hopes to become the ‘Stanford of the East,’ is backed by over 40 Indian entrepreneurs and CEOs including Mahindra CEO CP Gurnani, Neeraj Aggarwal, Chairman of Asia Pacific, Boston Consulting Group, Hellion Ventures’ co-founder Ashish Gupta, chairman of Genpact and Clix Capital Pramod Bhasin, Hitesh Oberoi, Infoedge and Naukri.com Managing Director, among others. Together, they are raising <a href="https://www.livemint.com/companies/news/entrepreneurs-group-to-raise-2-000-crore-for-stem-university-1550171308952.html">₹20 billion</a> to build Plaksha – the name given to the university – and have already raised ₹4,000 million. The university will be launched in 2021. The idea for the university started three years ago, when a few IIT alums – today top business leaders – got together and thought of way to encourage India’s booming tech-driven ecosystem, say its founders. “We felt the need to reimagine technology education the way it’s being delivered today and create something that’s truly world-class and cutting edge, and reimagine teaching curriculum research,” Vineet Gupta, Managing Director, Jamboree Education Pvt. Ltd. and Founder and Trustee, Ashoka University, who is one of the investors and founding member of Plaksha, told Business Insider. The university will be built upon 50 acres of land near Chandigarh International Airport, near Indian School of Business, Mohali. In its first phase, the investors have planned to invest ₹3,500 million in capital for a 1,000 student campus. In 10 years, the founders aim for it to become a 8,000-students campus. “We met the Punjab and Haryana government, where the Punjab government was excited about the university. When the idea started it was five-six of us and now we have reached 40, the number will keep growing as it’s a combined philanthropic effort,” said Gupta. The idea behind the university is bringing technological solutions for society, Gupta said, adding they hope its ideas will help solve India’s challenges in areas ranging from food security, environment sustainability, health, education or innovation in manufacturing. “Technology has a huge role to play in advancing solutions for these problems.While the approach of the university will be to look at cutting edge technology in sectors like Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, robotics among other, we would like the university to sensitize and deal with solutions focused on India,” said Gupta. The importance of technology and innovation education has been a big theme at almost every other startup meet or discussion at Indian events focused on entrepreneurship. The setting up of this university will lead to more students having an option to learn about entrepreneurship and technology before actually being a part of the game. “Education is a big multiplier…most of us got good education at IITs almost for free and what we are today is because of that quality education. Top CEOs from India are raising funds to set up a technology university

<ul><li>According to LinkedIn’s latest survey, AI/ML jobs are one of the top emerging jobs in India. </li><li>MakeMyTrip CEO Deep Kalra said it’s one of the toughest challenges they face today. </li><li>The gap then exists at an academic level which needs to be filled immediately.</li></ul>Jobs in <keyword id="107950" type="TECHNOLOGY" weightage="20" keywordseo="artificial-intelligence">Artificial Intelligence</keyword> and <keyword id="294572" type="TECHNOLOGY" weightage="20" keywordseo="machine-learning">Machine Learning</keyword> are in <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/careers/news/ai-blockchain-digital-maketing-and-other-top-emerging-jobs-in-india-according-to-linkedin/articleshow/72446654.cms">high demand</a> in India, but finding the right talent for these roles is a difficult task. AI/ML skills are an important part of new technology adoption -- a route that most Indian companies are taking today. Though the jobs exist, finding and then sustaining the right talent for these jobs is a challenge. “It’s a real, real pain. Getting good talent for cutting edge new technology is the toughest. There’s such a fight for it. You get people and train them but they leave because they are being offered much higher salaries here and there,” MakeMyTrip CEO Deep Kalra told Business Insider in an earlier interview. MakeMyTrip has over 800 people working in tech, but their <keyword id="6357343" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Data-Science">data science</keyword> team still has just about 15 people. Kalra said that while the team size is modest, it’s the churn which is the problem. Pawan Goyal, chief business officer at Naukri.com too agrees that there has been a significant increase in demand for AI/ML <keyword id="6357342" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Hiring">hiring</keyword>. “This is a niche talent and is in short supply. The supply has started increasing. However, there is a long way to go to match the demand,” he said. A recent KPMG survey says that in the next few years, 50% of the workforce will be preparing for <keyword id="6355999" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="ai">AI</keyword>, <keyword id="51645" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="ML">ML</keyword> and related technologies and that will be the biggest challenge for the HR functions. As finding the right talent gets more and more difficult, companies are also investing in their own employees and helping them adapt to the latest technologies – putting them through upskilling or reskilling programmes. “Companies need to rethink on how their employees will work alongside intelligent machines and get them to upskill for newer work profiles, else they will become redundant. Many companies often hold back on upskilling due to budgetary constraints or lack of time . And hence, they are now looking at hiring employees that come some opening balance of AI / ML skills,” said Neeti sharma, senior VP at Teamlease services. A way out would be for AI/ML to be included at the academic level in graduation colleges. “AI/ML will be used across all disciplines. Hence, it should become part and parcel of graduate education. This could be initiated by the government. Also, people should make use of the large number of excellent online courses available on platforms such as Coursera to pick up AI/ML skills,” said Goyal. Picking up the need to bring in these technologies at an academic level, Plaksha university, which has been set up by 50 entrepreneurs, has even partnered with UC Berkeley to bring fellowship programs in AI and ML. The programme called Tech Leaders Fellowship claims to be a first of its kind with a specialization in AI, ML and immersion in real-world applications, industry experience and leadership. “Today, there exist more than 5,000 engineering colleges in India, producing about a million engineering graduates every year. But most engineering education is still quite traditional. Plaksha is aiming to re-imagine technology and engineering education in India and the world,” said Vineet Gupta, founding member of Plaksha University, and co-chair of TLF Program Committee. OYO now claims to be the largest ‘long-term’ coliving space. It currently has an occupancy of 85-90%. “Originally targeted at young professionals and first jobbers, we have been seeing interesting case studies of customers across various stages of life ranging from students, couples, right up to families and senior citizens across diverse income groups, choosing OYO LIFE as their preferred option,” said Kapoor. <ul><li>India’s prestigious <keyword id="55119" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-Institute-of-Technology">Indian Institute of Technology</keyword> (IIT), Madras will host the <keyword id="8150706" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Singapore-India-Hackathon-2019">Singapore India Hackathon 2019</keyword>. </li><li>It is a 36-hour long hackathon, focussed on three themes — good health and well-being, quality education, and affordable and clean energy. </li><li>Prime Minister <keyword id="6354477" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Narendra-Modi">Narendra Modi</keyword> will award prizes to the winning teams. </li><li>Six teams will receive the ‘Prize of Encouragement,’ along with prizes worth $2,000 (₹141,425). </li></ul>India’s prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras will host the second joint competition — <a href="https://pib.gov.in/PressReleseDetail.aspx?PRID=1586294#">Singapore India Hackathon 2019</a>. Each of the 20 participating teams will have three students, each from both countries for exchange of culture and ideas. The winning team will be awarded a prize money of $10,000 (₹707,125), while the three runner ups will get $8,000 (₹565,700), $6,000 (₹424,275) and $4,000 (₹282,850) respectively. The Human Resource and Development Ministry (MHRD) of India will also award the ‘Prize of Encouragement of,’ $2,000 each to six teams for ideas with potential. “The Singapore India Hackathon, an initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is the first of its kind joint <keyword id="6001248" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="international-hackathon">international hackathon</keyword> between India and any other country.
