The report highlights the travel trends and behaviours of couples embarking on this special journey. <h2>Beaches are a favourite for Indian couples</h2>Be it for domestic or international destinations, beaches have consistently been the top choice for newlyweds planning their first post-wedding trip, as per the report. This year’s data reflects the same trend. Internationally, <keyword id="11905404" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Thailand" source="Orion">Thailand</keyword> has emerged as the leading honeymoon destination for Indian couples in 2023-24, topping honeymoon package bookings on MakeMyTrip. With a notable 5.2% year-on-year (YoY) increase, Thailand has surpassed the Maldives, last year’s favourite, which saw a 16.2% YoY decline in bookings. Meanwhile, the other top international destinations—Indonesia, Mauritius, and Vietnam—also experienced growth in their booking shares this year. Domestically, the Andamans have overtaken Kerala as the most popular honeymoon destination, with a 6.9% year-on-year increase in honeymoon package bookings. Kashmir also rose in popularity, gaining 3.6% in bookings and moving into third place. Bookings for Goa remained steady compared to last year, while Himachal Pradesh experienced a 4% decline. Other regions, including the Northeast, Uttarakhand, and Maharashtra, also attracted Indian couples looking for memorable honeymoon experiences within the country. <h2>Couples going far</h2>Indian honeymooners are exploring far places increasingly drawn to new and diverse destinations. While international spots like Bhutan, Azerbaijan, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, and Seychelles have seen significant year-on-year growth in honeymoon package bookings, this trend extends beyond just short-haul destinations. Because of Easy Visa, Japan has seen the highest YoY growth of 388% in honeymoon package booking. Other long-haul destinations that have seen maximum growth for honeymoon package bookings include Scandinavia, the United States, South Africa, and Australia and New Zealand. <h2>Honeymooners from Metro cities going all out to create Insta-worthy memories</h2>Metro cities like Delhi, Mumbai, and Bangalore are driving the demand for premium honeymoon packages, contributing to more than two-thirds of all honeymoon package bookings. However, cities such as Hyderabad, Kolkata, Chennai, Ahmedabad, and Pune are also seeing a notable shift from budget to premium travel. Couples are ready to spend more on luxury and pampering during their honeymoon. The average spending per couple has gone up by 13% compared to last year. In fact, 68% of newlyweds booked 4-star or 5-star hotels for their stay. One in every five honeymoon bookings was for a 5-star property in 2023-24, showing a 10% increase from the previous year. Newlyweds are not only spending more on comfort and luxury but are also increasingly choosing to visit multiple destinations during their honeymoon. Domestically, the number of couples visiting four or more cities increased from 35% in 2022-23 to 39% in 2023-24. Internationally, while more than half of honeymooners still prefer visiting just one city, the percentage of couples choosing to explore two or more cities grew from 32% to 47%. <h2>Personalised experiences demand all-time high</h2>Couples are seeking more personalised and romantic experiences than ever before. Honeymoon package bookings have grown by 25% compared to last year, showing that many couples want a fully planned, curated experience. Over 95% of honeymoon bookings this year included special activities. As a result, MMT saw a 56% increase in bookings for premium romantic activities like couples' photoshoots, romantic dinners, cruises (sunset, dinner, or catamaran), spa sessions, and floating breakfasts. <h2>Couples booking packages last minute</h2>The report also adds that Indian couples are booking their honeymoons closer to their travel dates. For domestic packages, 56% were booked within 30 days of departure, and 38% were booked the same way for international packages. This matches the overall trend of Indian travellers, who usually book closer to their travel dates. However, 31% of couples travelling internationally booked their honeymoon more than two months in advance, compared to just 18% for domestic trips. To gain more insights, MakeMyTrip also surveyed over 200 people who booked their honeymoon packages through the platform. The survey revealed that 70% of couples went on their honeymoon within 10 days of their wedding, 10% travelled between 10 days to a month later, and 20% waited more than a month to go.

At the time, there weren't as many immigrants from around the world in Atlanta as there are now.I learned English in three months by making friends through the soccer and basketball teams. In France, nobody cared about that at all.I find people friendlier in the US but more superficial than in France.In France, my sister, who was a year and a half older, and I would walk to school when I was six. In Atlanta, you needed a car to get anywhere. We were stuck in our neighborhood unless our parents drove us somewhere.I liked that everything was bigger and more convenient in Atlanta. I was shocked that places had air conditioning, and you could get free drink refills.<h2 id="033b035f-3c56-4beb-b885-966d4d0a24da">New York reminded me of home</h2>We moved to Pelham, New York when I was 11 for my father's work. New York felt like home because it was full of people from all over the world. It reminded me of Toulon. I didn't feel as much like a foreigner.My sister and I could take the train to school by ourselves and walk everywhere. It was like living in Europe again.I lost my French accent, and I started to feel more confident.<h2 id="22daf239-4d72-46fb-bffe-a7e34a616916">I struggled with moving back to France</h2>Our family moved back to France when I was 14. I was upset when I found out. I lived with my aunt near Atlanta until I was recruited to play basketball at a university in Montreal. I got divorced in my 20s, but I was never tempted to move back to Europe. After a few jobs, I started my career in the trucking industry back in Atlanta. As my husband and I explored the town we were staying in, we clung to the walls on the side of the road as buses and motorbikes sped by.We found that the majority of the towns we visited along the coast didn't have sidewalks either, which meant getting around on foot felt a little more difficult and dangerous than we expected. Although the locals didn't seem phased, I was a little nervous about walking down the busier streets.<h2 id="09cc1871-aae6-4df8-94c8-5f72dd403bd2">The steps and steep inclines were more intense than I expected</h2>My twice-weekly <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/doing-pilates-for-20-years-strengthened-body-throughout-life-2024-3">Pilates classes</a> did not prepare me for the hundreds of steps and steep inclines of the Amalfi Coast.One night, we decided to visit a gorgeous seaside restaurant in Praiano. When figuring out the best way to get there, we discovered it was only a 40-minute walk from our Airbnb. Since it was a nice night, we decided to give it a go. However, I didn't realize the walk would be more like a hike.Before leaving home, I had been warned about the many steps on the Amalfi Coast, but I severely underestimated how difficult it would actually be to get around on foot.In all fairness, I did visit in July, when temperatures reached up to 95 degrees Fahrenheit. Although the heat definitely made the steps harder to conquer, I'm not sure I would have fared much better in cooler temperatures.<h2 id="4e5cc1ac-d426-46ed-8334-2232ba546c24">A lot of the Amalfi Coast felt like a tourist trap</h2><div type="image" title="People walk down the steps near colorful buildings in Positano." height="2762" width="3683" msid="113069115" hostid="261" sizebytes="1032016"></div>As someone who grew up right outside <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/where-to-eat-in-new-york-city-restaurants-according-to-local">New York City</a>, I can typically smell a tourist trap from a mile away. To me, a lot of the most popular destinations on the Amalfi Coast felt as though they were specifically designed for tourists.I guess this makes sense since the coast attracts <a target="_blank" href="https://www.euronews.com/travel/2024/07/02/amalfi-coast-one-of-italys-most-popular-destinations-is-getting-its-own-airport-this-summe">roughly 5 million visitors</a> a year. However, the coast felt like a far cry from the more authentic Italian experience I was expecting to find.For example, while wandering the gorgeous streets near the port in Positano, we found that many of the gelato shops were owned by the same company. The gelato was delicious, but I was a little disappointed that we couldn't sample flavors from a variety of different local merchants.When I travel, I also love checking out the products from local vendors. In Positano and Amalfi, I was looking for one-of-a-kind mementos and handcrafted pieces but mostly found dresses and pottery that looked nearly identical from place to place.In my experience, it was hard to find authenticity in many of the tourist-filled locations on the coast. Although we genuinely enjoyed our experience there, I preferred immersing myself in the culture of the <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/things-do-differently-next-trip-to-italy-2023-10">small towns</a> we visited in Tuscany.<h2 id="d83b8099-2cb1-4c4e-8bff-082aa4a28105">In our experience, the public transportation wasn't super reliable</h2>When I was researching and planning our trip, one of the No. 1 tips I read was <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/things-to-know-visiting-amalfi-coast-busy-season-first-time">not to rent a car on the Amalfi Coast</a>. After all, the steep, winding cliffside roads are not for the faint of heart.With this advice in mind, we decided to use <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/tips-for-visiting-los-angeles-without-car-using-public-transportation-2023-10">public transportation</a> to get around. Although we loved how cheap the buses were (typically less than 3 euros per person), we soon discovered that they rarely showed up at the scheduled times.This led us to have to cancel reservations and plans, which was disappointing since we were only in town for a few days. Additionally, we found the taxis to be quite expensive — one 15-minute drive cost us 50 euros.Because navigating public transportation quickly became draining, we ended up spending more time at our Airbnb than at the beach.<h2 id="f79ab41e-c6f6-434a-bfd5-79122606c7ac">That said, we still loved our time on the Amalfi Coast</h2><div type="image" title="Stephanie and her husband pose on a pier near the sea. It features a swappable battery setup, with the scooter featuring two 1.5 kWh batteries. The scooter is claimed to offer a range of up to 102 km on a single charge with the two batteries. The scooter will offer three riding modes – Economy, Standard and Sport. It is powered by a wheel-side motor with a maximum output of 6 kW, providing a top speed of 80 kmph. <h2>Honda QC1 specifications</h2>The Honda QC1 will be a more affordable option, designed for shorter rides. The QC1 features a similar design while offering a smaller LCD display to keep the costs down. It is equipped with a fixed 1.5 kWh battery, offering a range of up to 80 km on a single charge. The scooter is equipped with an in-wheel motor which generates between 1.2 kW and 1.8 kW power. It comes equipped with a 5-inch LCD instrument panel, under-seat storage, and a USB Type-C socket for convenience. But a closer look reveals a stark generational divide.</li></ul>Domantas Katelė, an official in Lithuania's Ministry of Social Security and Labour, is widely known as his country's <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/gen-z-sick-leave-pto-mental-health-work-from-home-2024-8">"Gen Z"</a> minister. Rings adorn Katelė's tattooed fingers, which he uses to proudly point to his "Politicians make me sick" door sign. At 25, he's the country's youngest-ever deputy minister (he still wears braces), and rarely lets visitors leave his office without taking a selfie. Katelė's portfolio includes <keyword id="20654323" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="youth-affairs" source="keywords">youth affairs</keyword>. It's not that he thinks Lithuania is a bad place for <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/young-people-are-developing-money-dysmorphia-2024-7">young people</a>; just that, like others, he has come to associate the country with bleakness. "We are known for being very sad people," he said, adding: "But, slowly, we're going toward being a small, happy nation." <div type="image" title="Richard Bogu sits down at a coffee table" height="4284" width="5712" msid="113488790" hostid="261"></div>Bogu said he feels optimistic about the future, especially for people his age — the tech industry, in which he works, is booming, <a target="_blank" href="https://www.lrt.lt/en/news-in-english/19/2210828/average-wage-in-lithuania-up-12-sodra">salaries are rising</a>, and jobs are ample. "This country gave me opportunities," he said. A key benefit is that most Lithuanians can enter the workforce unburdened by <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/regret-paying-off-student-debt-instead-earning-passive-income-2024-7">student debt</a>, as university education is free for many. Wages are rising rapidly, and the expanding startup sector is <a target="_blank" href="https://unicorns.lt/en/news/lithuanian-startups-are-looking-hundreds-employees-not-just-it-specialists?ref=philomaths.tech">eager to hire</a> young talent. <h2>No country for old men</h2>But while things may be looking up for the younger generation, older Lithuanians don't seem to share the same optimism. According to <a target="_blank" href="https://ec.europa.eu/eurostat/databrowser/view/ilc_pw01__custom_12656014/default/table?lang=en">Eurostat's 2023 overall life satisfaction survey of those aged 65 years or over,</a> older Lithuanians are nowhere near as happy as the country's youth. This generational divide bears out in the <keyword id="21021432" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="World-Happiness-Report" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="World Happiness Report" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="World Happiness Report">World Happiness Report</keyword>. While Lithuania ranked first for those under 30, it was 19th across all age groups, dragged down by its 44th-place ranking for those over 60. "If you don't have children or grandchildren to care for you, you're basically done," Bogu said. <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/retirees-moving-social-security-cheaper-living-healthcare-canada-japan-mexico-2024-9#:~:text=Retirees%20are%20increasingly%20moving%20abroad,Canada%2C%20Mexico%2C%20and%20Japan.">Retirees</a> in Lithuania receive some of the <a target="_blank" href="https://www.etk.fi/en/work-and-pensions-abroad/international-comparisons/pensioners-income-level-internationally/average-pensions-in-europe/">lowest pensions</a> in Europe, and have <a target="_blank" href="https://ec.europa.eu/eurostat/databrowser/view/tespn060/default/table?lang=en&amp;category=t_ilc.t_ilc_ip.t_ilc_pn">among the lowest median relative income</a> of older people across the European Union. Data provided to BI by Lithuania's Ministry of Social Security and Labour shows that 62% of those who died by suicide in 2023 were over 50, with 8.7% under 30. It's a far starker divide than in countries like the US or UK, pointing to a chasm between the generations. <a target="_blank" href="mailto:grizas.antanas@gmail.com">Antanas Grižas</a>, a clinical psychologist specializing in suicide prevention in Lithuania, said the <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/gen-z-kid-baby-boomer-parents-generational-differences-parenting-lessons-2024-4">generational divide</a> is deeply felt in the country, as well as elsewhere in the former Soviet Bloc. "So it makes total sense that they have different conditioning and a different mindset." Reports like the happiness rankings are also often based on self-assessments, and Grižas suggests that comparisons may play a key part in the variation between the generations. While the previous generation was deprived of luxuries, he said Gen Z can relish the <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/why-gen-z-feels-good-about-money-inflation-jobs-2024-6">freedom to spend</a> the equivalent of $160 on dinner, to vacation abroad, and to participate in democracy.
