Addressing the joint annual Convocation Ceremony of Management Development Institute (MDI), Gurgaon and Murshidabad, as the chief guest, <keyword id="169120" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="sanjiv-mehta" source="Orion">Sanjiv Mehta</keyword>, CEO and Managing Director of Hindustan Unilever limited, urged the graduating students to temper <keyword id="119318" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ambition" source="Orion">ambition</keyword> with <keyword id="63298" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="humility" source="Orion">humility</keyword>. In the Convocation Ceremony, 514 students from various PGDM programmes and eight Fellow Scholars of MDI Gurgaon received their diplomas. Twenty-four medals were awarded to meritorious students of different courses. From MDI Murshidabad, 132 students from the PGDM 2020-22 batch were conferred their diplomas. In his address, Mehta exhorted the students to be brave and act right. "Always do the harder right than the easier wrong," Mehta said. "When the crowd goes one way, you have the right to go the other way." He advised the students to not fear failures in life. "What matters is the resilience you demonstrate to bounce back from failures," Mehta said. Stating that ordinary people do extraordinary things, he said: "This is the power of purpose." Even as it marks its 50th Foundation Year, MDI Gurgaon, ranked among the top 10 B-schools in India, is set to implement an over ₹200-crore campus rejuvenation and expansion plan. Addressing the Convocation Ceremony, Rajnish Kumar, Member of the MDI Board of Governors, said that MDI Gurgaon is focused on redevelopment of its campus with best-in-class infrastructure. "The Board has approved a ₹200 crore-plus Campus Rejuvenation Plan to expand the campus and create state-of-the-art infrastructure," he stated in his welcome address. "The proposed construction plan is going to start shortly. A large Sustainability Plan is being discussed to become a green campus complying with the best global standards." Kumar said that as MDI celebrates its Golden Jubilee, it is now focusing on expanding to other parts of the country as well Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Rajesh Chakrabarti, Director of MDI Gurgaon, said that the Institute has reached an agreement with the selected architects to add to and upgrade the campus significantly. Alluding to the 2022 placement season, Dr. Chakrabarti, in his Director's Report, said that MDI Gurgaon continued to be the institute of choice for newly minted talent. Management Development Institute (MDI) Gurgaon secured 100% placements within the first three days — with Amazon offering the highest package at ₹40.5 lakhs. The average compensation too increased by 9.5% at ₹ 22.05 lakhs. Of the total 360 offers rolled out, nearly 70 came from ecommerce and IT sectors. This includes nearly 41 offers from e-commerce platforms like Flipkart, Make My Trip, Oyo, PhonePe and 27 offers from the IT giants like Accenture, Capgemini, IBM and Tech Mahindra. In an interview with Business Insider, Kanwal Kapil, Dean of Placements at MDI, Gurgaon said that the employers are now keen on hiring management graduates with digital literacy. “When you talk about digital businesses, they will definitely look at retaining talent with digital skills. The e-commerce sector has seen the highest growth, in terms of hiring at nearly 141%, compared to last year,” he said. Over half of the offers (57%) were from companies in the consulting, BFSI (Banking, Insurance and Financial Services), technology and telecom domains. This includes 63 offers from PwC, Deloitte, ICICI Bank, IDFC Bank and Airtel. While automotive, logistics and pharmaceuticals accounted for almost 15% of the offers. PwC US Advisory emerged the largest recruiter with 14 offers, followed by Deloitte USI, ICICI Bank and IDFC First Bank with 13 offers each. Telecom major Airtel made 10 offers. Kapil told that all of these offers were for domestic roles. However, since most of the employers are global multinationals, these might also lead to international projects, depending on the demand. Amazon becomes the top recruiter at MDI Gurgaon with a ₹40.5 lakh offer

Average salaries went up by 22% at IIM-K IIM Kozhikode, on the other hand, placed over 400 students, witnessing a 22% increase in the average salaries as compared to last year. The average salary for the batch was ₹2.3 million — which <a href="https://indiaeducationdiary.in/iim-kozhikode-registers-100-final-placement-for-largest-batch-ever-closes-process-in-5-days/" data-type="tilCustomLink">went up to ₹2.7 million for the top performing students.</a> “Despite the negative sentiment of the job market, green energy, and e-commerce sectors along with emerging startups — including education technology startups — have hired this year along with the other traditional firms. IIMK has seen a 200% surge in offers from start-ups along with more than 150% increase in the roles from e-commerce firms securing 12.5% of the total offers from these sectors,” said professor Shovan Chowdhury, chairperson of <keyword id="8671808" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="placements-at-iim">placements at IIM</keyword> Kozhikode. Indian B-schools are beating the slowdown with average salary offers at ₹2.5 million

In India, we have engineers and MBAs in abundance. All thanks to numerous institutes in the country that students get the chance to pursue these professional courses at. 
 
However, all institutes don’t have great placement rates. Students of top institutes prove to be the luckiest. Take for instance the case of MDI, IIFT and other top <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=B-schools">B-schools</a>. This year, their students got placed in the first two days of the summer placement session; companies which came in later had to return bare-handed. 
 Kanwal Kapil, Associate Professor &amp; Chairperson- Placements at <keyword id="481185" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Management-Development-Institute">Management Development Institute</keyword> (MDI), Gurgaon shares, "Companies have been so upbeat on hiring that this was waiting to happen. By noon on the third day, all our students had been placed. For the human resource programme, it was over on the first day itself. We had to send back the companies slotted over the next couple of days.” 
 
Not just at MDI, but other leading business institutes including Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Kozhikode, XLRI Jamshedpur and the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT) in Delhi were confident about business prospects. 
 
The sectors taking the lead so far were: investment banks,<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=+eCommerce+companies"> eCommerce companies</a> and consumer goods makers, who look forward to an augmentation as India retains its place of world’s fastest growing economy. 
 
This year placements were completed in a record time of 3-7 days. 
 "Most companies across sectors have hiked stipends," shared Rajul Mangal, placement committee member at IIM-Kozhikode. The percentage increase is observed somewhere between 20-50%. <keyword id="63460" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="JP-Morgan">JP Morgan</keyword> Chase is paying Rs 5 lakh at XLRI Jamshedpur for a two-month internship. 
 Boston Consulting Group and Reckitt Benckiser are paying Rs 3 lakh each at IIM-Kozhikode and MDI Gurgaon. <keyword id="48670" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Morgan-Stanley">Morgan Stanley</keyword> is paying Rs 4 lakh at Faculty of Management Studies (FMS) Delhi while at IIFT, average stipends are up by 30% from last year. 
 Sources informed that <keyword id="6361649" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Goldman-Sachs">Goldman Sachs</keyword> and American Express have also increased stipends to Rs 2 lakh from Rs 1.5 lakh for two months. Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages has raised it to Rs 1.5 lakh from Rs 75,000 and Tata Steel to Rs 1 lakh from Rs 50,000. 
 
L'Oreal is paying Rs 1.6 lakh, up from Rs 1.2 lakh, and Arvind Lifestyle is paying Rs 1 lakh versus Rs 70,000 last year. 
 The number of offers too have increased as Microsoft, RPG, American Express, JP Morgan Chase and <keyword id="6357341" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Deutsche-Bank">Deutsche Bank</keyword> have all made 60-100% more offers at IIM-Kozhikode than previous year. 
 
With the highest recruit ever, Accenture Strategy hired 12 interns at FMS Delhi. 
 New recruiters on campuses included the Bill and <keyword id="131379" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Melinda-Gates">Melinda Gates</keyword> Foundation, Shell, Ola Cabs and Quikr at XLRI; <keyword id="270433" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Anheuser-Busch-InBev">Anheuser-Busch InBev</keyword> and Dr Reddy's at FMS Delhi; Edelweiss and Glenmark Pharma at MDI; and Marico and GSK Consumer at IIFT. 
 Surprisingly, IIFT got 12 international offers for internships this year, up from eight last year. International recruiters included the World Trade Organisation (WTO) and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (<keyword id="6356984" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="OECD">OECD</keyword>).

Here’s where top management schools are sending their students this year

The final placements at <keyword id="481185" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Management-Development-Institute">Management Development Institute</keyword> (<keyword id="6510154" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="MDI">MDI</keyword>) in <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Gurgaon+&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Gurgaon </a>are over and this year students are elated as they bagged top placements. The top international salary offered was Rs 55 lakh ($80,700) by Singapore-headquartered <keyword id="258856" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tolaram-Group">Tolaram Group</keyword> and the highest domestic offer of Rs 28.74 lakh was made by <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Colgate-Palmolive&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Colgate-Palmolive</a>. 
 
The average salary for the institute has shot up considerably as it touched Rs 18.89 lakh from Rs 18.53 lakh last time. 
 
Reportedly, four offers were made by the Tolaram Group, which is in consumer goods, digital services, energy and infrastructure in emerging markets, eight by Anheuser-Busch InBev, the world's largest brewing company. Also <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Johnson+%26+Johnson&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Johnson &amp; Johnson</a> Dubai, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Philips+&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Philips Lighting </a>and <keyword id="6444941" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Pernod-Ricard">Pernod Ricard</keyword> each made one offer for global postings. 
 
According to MDI placements chairperson Kanwal Kapil, 343 students participated in the placement process - 238 from the flagship management course, 60 students from the human resource management course and 45 from the international management course. About 100 students received pre-placement offers based on their performance during summer internships. 
 
He also said that to make up for the decline in the offers made by the companies, more recruiters were invited. Of the 143 companies that participated, 54 were first-timers including <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Aditya+Birla&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Aditya Birla</a> Fashion Retail, Crompton Greaves, Directi and Hindware. The regulars were <keyword id="6355975" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Axis-Bank">Axis Bank</keyword>, ICICI Bank, ITC, <keyword id="50041" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="KPMG">KPMG</keyword> and <keyword id="113571" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Godrej-Industries">Godrej Industries</keyword>, among others.

This B-school saw sharp increase in international offers; highest salary offered was Rs 55 lakh

<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=IT+companies&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">IT companies</a> have become careful after US President <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=donald+trump&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Donald Trump</a>’s protectionist stance. 
 
The Trump effect has shadowed hiring in B-schools and IT companies, which are generally largest <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=recruitment&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">recruiters</a> in management schools, have slashed hiring. 
 
This placement season saw a considerable drop in IT recruitment, especially in tier I and II cities. The drop has been reported by 20-40%. 
 
For instance, IT hiring slid down by 26% at Management Development Institute (MDI), Gurgaon. 
 
"Consulting remains relatively stable but it's the back-end roles that have been hit hard. Infosys and Accenture are among those that have cut numbers at MDI, while IBM did not come for final placements," MDI placements chairperson Kanwal Kapil told ET. 
 
As per reports, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=infosys&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Infosys</a> took just 13 people from one business schools as compared with 40 last year. Even Dell hired three against five and Wipro recruited five compared with nine last time. 
 
"We are expecting at least 30 per cent less hiring in IT as compared with last year," Saveeta Mohanty, associate dean for career advisory services at Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar (XIMB), told ET. 
 
As per Top Recruiters survey 2016, six of the top 10 recruiters by numbers across 26 B-schools were from the technology space during last placement season. 
 
ET reported on January 17 that Infosys and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=TCS&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">TCS</a> will hire more engineers from campuses in the US as they brace themselves for stringent visa norms under the new administration. Among Trump's top election pledges were restricting immigration and bringing jobs back home. 
 
Apart from Trump, another factor is <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=automation&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">automation</a>, which is going to eat up several jobs. 
 
"The Trump effect is definitely there. Adding to that is the fact that expected numbers are also muted for the industry in terms of growth. The focus on automation and increasing productivity per employee are other factors," an analyst tracking the IT sector told ET. 
 
An Infosys spokesperson, however, told ET: "Hiring from US may not have a substantial impact on the recruitment numbers in India."

This is as per the Cluster1 placements at the IIM-A campus — which was concluded in four cohorts — investment banking and markets, management consulting, advisory consulting and private equity, venture capital and asset management. “Consulting firms continued to hire in large numbers in the first cluster, offering management consulting roles across geographies including Malaysia and Middle East,” the institute said. It’s not just the IIMs This has become a common trend across B-schools. XLRI also attracted the highest number of offers from the consulting domain at 26%, this year. Global multinationals KPMG and PwC were the top most recruiters, rolling out the highest number of offers. This simply mirrored last year’s trend wherein Boston Consulting Group was the leading recruiter. On the other hand, more than half (57%) of the offers at MDI came from companies in the consulting, BFSI, technology and telecom sectors. The average compensation at the institute too increased by 9.5% at ₹ 2.2 million. This includes 63 offers from PwC, Deloitte, ICICI Bank, IDFC Bank and Airtel. Last year too, IIM Bangalore reportedly scored over 30% placements in the consulting sector — including overseas job offers. Investment banking follows Banking, Insurance and Financial Services(BFSI ) is the second biggest chunk of recruiters. At IIM-A, Avendus and JP Morgan Chase &amp; Co offered 18 job letters. At XLRI too BFSI which recruited 17%, also turned out to be the highest paymaster. It offered domestic salaries as high as ₹5 million. “The increase in BFSI hiring can be attributed to a higher number of candidates opting for the finance specialization and a vibrant appreciation for finance in the form of finance associations and an in-house XLRI Student Investment fund,” XLRI said. Overall, this placement season has been a fruitful one so far. Several management institutions — including IIM Lucknow, IIM Kozhikode, MDI, XLRI — clocked in 100% placements in the first week. This is more relevant than ever as companies seek people with real-time experience, according to <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/internships-in-india-on-the-rise-with-startups-leading-the-way/articleshow/67655265.cms">online training and internship platform Internshala.</a> Management graduates from top business schools such as Management Development Institute, Gurgaon, Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai, Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Kozhikode saw a rise in the number of internships and average stipend as compared to last year. Management Development Institute, Gurgaon saw a 10% rise in average stipend at ₹231,000 for two-months. “Summers are important opportunities to spot future talent, so companies don’t risk missing out even if the overall sentiment is sluggish,” Kanwal Kapil, dean of placements at MDI Gurgaon <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/jobs/ecommerce-is-coolest-place-for-summer-internship/articleshow/71485727.cms?from=mdr">told </a>ET. According to the ET report, the average stipend for two-month summer internship increased from ₹204,000 to ₹208,000 at TISS, Mumbai while it decreased to ₹168,000 compared to 171,000 last year at IIM, Kozikhode. Highest paymasters FMCG (Fast Moving Consumer Goods) and e-commerce companies are the top paying sectors for internships. While L’Oreal was the highest paying employer at ₹ 320,000 at MDI, e-commerce companies like Amazon, Flipkart, and Grofers rolled out the maximum internship offers across these management schools. “The focus is to bring the best talent. We see any softening of hiring by our traditional on-campus competitors as an opportunity to further strengthen our talent pool,” said Rahul Guha, Managing Director of the <keyword id="136162" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Boston-Consulting-Group">Boston Consulting Group</keyword>, which plans to hire over 100 interns across locations in India. India’s top b-school graduates are being paid over ₹2 lakh for summer internships

And, they are drawing good salaries too. The average salary of the 2019 batch is 10% higher than the last. Amazon, Accenture, Swiggy, Sapient and Ford were some of the companies which hired the students. On domestic job roles, the highest offer extended was at ₹12.5 million, which is 40% higher than last year’s highest salary. This course has been a transformative experience," Prashant Sharma, an MBAEx alumnus told NDTV. Overall, it has been a good year for India’s B-school pass outs. IIM-C students see a dramatic jump in salaries after an MBA

<ul><li>Top management institute <keyword id="1821069" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Xavier-School-of-Management">Xavier School of Management</keyword> (<keyword id="64843" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="XLRI">XLRI</keyword>) placed all of 359 students within the first two days of <keyword id="121400" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="campus-placements">campus placements</keyword>. </li><li>Almost half of the offers bagged by the students were made via pre-placement offers. </li><li>The average salary package increased from ₹22.3 lacs in 2019 to ₹24.3 lacs this year. </li><li>The highest international offer stood at ₹58 lacs from the sales &amp; marketing.</li></ul>Top management institute Xavier School of Management (XLRI) placed all of 359 students within the first two days of campus placements. As many as 108 companies participated in the campus drive — rolling out domestic and international offers. In fact, almost half of the offers bagged by the students were made via PPOs (pre-placement offers). The average salary package increased from ₹2.2 million in 2019 to ₹2.4 million this year. Banking and financial services turned out to be the highest paymaster — offering domestic salaries as high as ₹5 million. The highest international offer stood at ₹5.8 million from the sales &amp; marketing domain. “This year’s placement season has once again witnessed remarkable success in spite of the longish economic slowdown. Top companies coming for recruitment is an affirmation by the industry of the high-standard of management-centric education that we strive for,” said J Christie, Director at XLRI. Top recruiters — Consulting, Sales &amp; Marketing, BFSI Wrapping up the recent campus placement season, the B-school attracted most promising job packages from the consulting (26%),, sales and marketing (21%) and BFSI (banking and financial services) at 17%. Global multinationals <keyword id="50041" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="KPMG">KPMG</keyword> and PwC topped the charts, rolling out the most number of offers. While Myntra, Power Finance Corporation, Delhivery, JCB and Diageo emerged as the first time recruiters at XLRI. “The increase in BFSI hiring can be attributed to a higher number of candidates opting for the finance specialization and a vibrant appreciation for finance in the form of finance associations and an in-house XLRI Student Investment fund,” XLRI said. <keyword id="6361649" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Goldman-Sachs">Goldman Sachs</keyword>, Citibank, JP Morgan were some of the top recruiters hiring for finance roles. XLRI students bag domestic and international job offers with salaries over ₹50 lakh

During the recent placement season, several B-schools — including Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Kozhikode, <a href="https://indianexpress.com/article/education/iit-bombay-placement-rs-32-4-lakh-top-package-for-mba-graduates-5554289/">Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)</a>, Bombay, Management Development Institute (MDI), Gurgaon, Indian Institute of Foreign Technology (IIFT), Delhi and Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) — reportedly offered packages of more than ₹2 million to MBA batches. The highest packages were reported at more than ₹3 million, compared to the average at nearly ₹2 million. According to a Campus Salary Hiring and Employment 2018 report by Mettl, the average salary for MBA graduates last year was recorded as ₹930,000 per annum, which has increased to more than a million this season. The trend clearly indicates business school graduates are now commanding better starting pay. As many as 55 companies breached the average salary mark for MDI this year, for instance, according to ET report. And not all are from the prestigious IIMs. In fact, the highest-paid graduates this year are reportedly from the University Business School (UBS), Punjab University, where the <a href="https://www.tribuneindia.com/news/chandigarh/ubs-touches-new-high-top-package-rs-53-lakh/711070.html">highest package</a> was recorded at ₹5.3 million this year. However, the average remuneration has been at ₹1.17 million for the 2018-19 batch. The average starting salaries for graduates of tier one colleges was recorded as ₹1.5 million, and tier two colleges at ₹534,000, annually, reports ET. The rise in pay may be because companies are now striving to hire quality talent with certain calibre and command, said Ketan Kapoor, Mettl. Startups, consulting firms and multinationals often chase the talent that they apparently find in premium business schools, he added. According to last year stats, the salary packages fetched by participating students crossed ₹2.4 million at the top three IIMs — Bangalore, Ahmedabad and Calcutta. However, several non-IIMs including SP Jain Institute of Management and Research and Xaviers School of Management also have a track of over ₹2 million average salaries by recruiters. Highest paymaster Consulting firms have been paying the highest to the fresh graduates, ET reported citing a senior official at IIM. However, banking and financial services sector also topped the charts this year during placements.
