Indian Railways website would soon allow passengers to be able to order burgers and pizzas of their choice, which is a step up from the normal sandwiches and thalis. 
 
The burgers and pizzas would be delivered right to the passengers’ coaches, while for last-minute purchases, there would be vendor boys waiting on platforms with ready-to-serve burgers and pizzas. 
 
In order to tap the segment of train passengers, leading quick service restaurants (QSR) such as Domino's Pizza, Burger King, Subway, KFC and Pizza Hut are opening up their stores at railway stations, from where it would be easy to deliver their services to the 23 million passengers who travel via 12,000 trains every day. 
 
Bids have been called from food services companies for setting up food courts at Indian stations. "With the rapid growth of passenger traffic and growing disposable income, brands cannot choose to ignore this segment for too long," said Gaurav Dewan, COO of Travel Food Services, one of the bidders. 
 
The food courts set up on these railway stations would keep both international and national brands, so that passengers have more options. 
 
Some of these fast-food chains have gone a step ahead and made special menus for these railway stations. For example, Domino's has developed a gas-fired oven so that it can work without electricity; it would be able to make pizzas in three minutes without compromising on taste and texture. 
 
Experts, however, feel that these restaurants may face major challenges in terms of pricing and timely orders.

Good news for food lovers! Passengers on board can now order their meals from some of the popular fast-food chains in the country. After <keyword id="158137" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Domino">Domino</keyword>'s, American fast food giant Yum Foods’ chain, Kentucky Fried Chicken (<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/KFC-food-samples-contain-harmful-bacteria-Govt-report/articleshow/47829313.cms">KFC</a>), has entered into an agreement with the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Getting-Tatkal-tickets-on-IRCTC-would-no-longer-be-a-tough-fight-this-summer-Heres-why/articleshow/47555632.cms">IRCTC</a>) to serve consumers on <keyword id="6360847" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Trains">trains</keyword>. 
 
Currently, passengers can avail the service on 12 trains passing through New Delhi railway station and will be expanded to Vishakhapatnam, Hyderabad (Kacheguda) and Bangalore (Yeshwantpur) stations over the next 10 days, reported TOI. 
 The service will initially be limited to trains, which lack pantry cars and subsequently be expanded to trains such as, the Rajdhani and Duronto. Passengers will have to visit the <keyword id="65866" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="IRCTC">IRCTC</keyword> website or call a toll free number to place their orders. "It's still early days and we will take time to scale up," Dhruv Kaul, CMO at <keyword id="6376241" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="KFC">KFC</keyword> India told TOI. "The sheer number of people that travel by train is an interesting proposition for us." 
 
The <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Indian-Railways-is-getting-a-makeover-Know-how/articleshow/47673889.cms">Indian Railways</a> operates around 12,500 passenger trains every day with nearly 1.3 crore passengers. In contrast, the largest burger chain in the country, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/McDonalds-goes-healthy-Now-heres-a-first-for-the-junk-food-giant/articleshow/47158676.cms">McDonald's</a>, serves 32 lakh consumers annually. 
 
Despite the potential, the logistics of train delivery — late trains and crowded platforms — is something that fast-food chains are still working on. 
 
Domino's has started its train deliveries in February. The pizza maker has expanded its service to around 200 trains and has managed to sell only around 350 pizzas. "The operations have to be worked on. But we are used to entering new areas," said Kaul. 
 
It has also been learnt that IRCTC is in talks with other chains such as, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Pizza-Hut-Is-Holding-Job-Interviews-That-Are-Only-140-Seconds-Long/articleshow/21282634.cms">Pizza Hut</a> and <keyword id="6366667" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Subway">Subway</keyword> for similar services.

We thought of trying some chef’s special but he was nowhere to be seen, though we asked for him a multiple times. You would need to decide for yourself because the attendants lack knowledge about the cuisine and have nothing much to share. The beer batter fish arrived almost half an hour later. The tanginess or hint of beer was lacking. Beer battered food is quite common in Delhi and there is no way you could go wrong. But they managed to. The waiters lack proper expertise and courtesy. So you may require to request for a fork, a knife, a spoon each time you can trace them. Unfortunately the pizza on arrival was found to be overbaked to the level where the crispiness has up. We could feel a burnt aftertaste on our first few bites. The cheese was good. When the waiters were asked about the kind of cheese in pizza, they couldn’t respond after much consultation among each other. For main course, we ordered a lamb burger with barbecue sauce and fish &amp; chips. The menu is too limited and there’s not much to try. We thought of these two as there is no way you can go wrong in making two of these dishes. Fish &amp; chips and lamb burgers are like making an Indian chicken, which should anyways taste good. The basa seemed like the Vietnamese one but the crispiness was nowhere. Basic thumb rule for fish and chips is crispy outside and fluffy inside and the chef seemed to have reversed the rule. The waiters wouldn’t serve it on your plate. Though the plates were heaved with leftovers of the pizza, the waiters didn’t bother to change unless we insisted. The lamb burger was worst than a <keyword id="6517640" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="QSR">QSR</keyword>. Why would someone pay Rs 755 for a burger that’s not juicy and tender! Well, searching for the answer to this question we left the place. We didn’t have the guts to ask for dessert as those didn’t look very promising. At a time when five stars are experimenting with their food and making the chef the hero of the place, hiding the creator and keeping a limited menu won’t help the place get quality customers. Making money with pool parties is one thing, but building a relationship like Radisson, Sarovars and Crowne Plazas would need some extra level of creativity.
