Google is working on a Pinterest-like app called Keen that will let people collect and share ideas, links and resources. Keen which is a web and Android app encourages users to make a "Keen" (like a Pinterest board) about any topic they like. "On Keen, you say what you want to spend more time on, and then curate content from the web and people you trust to help make that happen," said CJ Adams, Co-founder, Keen. Keen is part of Area 120, Google's workshop for experimental projects. People make a "keen," which can be about any topic, whether it's baking delicious bread at home, getting into birding or researching typography. "Keen lets you curate the content you love, share your collection with others and find new content based on what you have saved," Adams said in a statement on Thursday. Users can add links, photos and other resources, invite friends to collaborate and follow "Keens" they find interesting. The Keen team worked in close collaboration with another team at Google called People and AI Research (PAIR), dedicated to human-centered machine learning systems. You can curate 'Keen' yourself or for other people. The keens can be private or public, so you control what is shared and who can contribute. "For every keen you create, we use Google Search and the latest in machine learning to remain on the lookout for helpful content related to your interests," informed Adams. Even if you're not an expert on a topic, you can start curating a keen and save a few interesting "gems" or links that you find helpful. People can also follow keens that others have created, discovering thousands of hand-curated lists from the community and getting alerts when new things are added. "Keen isn't intended to be a place to spend endless hours browsing. Instead, it's a home for your interests: a place to grow them, share them with loved ones," said Google.

Those Featured Collections appear when you first hit the search button and are a set of pins, users, boards, and searches hand-picked daily by Pinterest's country editors and local "tastemakers" and brands. In the UK, launch partners include celebrity chef Jamie Oliver, TV presenter Fearne Cotton, model and TV star Alexa Chung, Burberry, and Topshop. (Featured Collections is also launching on Android and web first.)</li><li>Pinterest is launching its first advertising campaign in the UK first. The TV, outdoor, and digital campaign includes more than 100 different creative executions that aim to show how Pinterest can show some useful ideas to solve everyday problems. The campaign was created in-house, but localized by creative agency Stinkdigital and media agency MediaCom.</li></ul><h2>Pinterest needs to overcome some "misperceptions." Misperception one: That it's mostly just for women</h2>Speaking to Business Insider in a London hotel earlier this week, Pinterest cofounder Evan Sharp admitted there are a couple of big misperceptions about the platform amongst both its potential userbase and customers.When <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/pinterest-worth-11-billion-valuation-revenue-grow-5x-2015">Business Insider took a deep-dive into Pinterest's ad sales operation earlier this year</a>, a former member of Pinterest's sales team described the platform's audience as "a lot [more] lower-income, middle-America people on Pinterest than you do on other sites, and it's very female-centric."But Sharp says Pinterest isn't just a women's service - it's for everybody.<div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image">PinterestWhat Pinterest's new Featured Collections will look like.</div></div></div>"We don't talk much about specific demographic information, but we're not trying to hide anything," Sharp said."There's a perception that it's for women. There is some truth to the fact that women love it, but it's equally as valuable for me. I mean, I'm a guy, I use Pinterest. Pinterest is great for men's fashion, cooking, if you're into carpentry, there's a spectrum of ideas I use for carpentry, if you're into motorcycles, there's something for you there, so there's nothing inherently one-gender about Pinterest."<h2>Misperception two: That Pinterest isn't accommodating of advertisers</h2><a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/pinterest-worth-11-billion-valuation-revenue-grow-5x-2015">Back when we took a look at Pinterest's approach to advertising in January</a>, some advertising executives expressed frustration that Pinterest had not yet become a "slick" sales operation compared to its Silicon Valley counterparts like Facebook, Google, and Twitter. A former Pinterest sales staffer said the company didn't move quick enough to close some big deals so those partners moved on.Sharp said: "The reality of any startup is that you can only grow so fast, which means you can only do so much. The only thing worse than not servicing a partner is to do it poorly and I think that was the risk that we had."We still have that in some markets: we can't work with every partner in the world. It's not because we don't value them, but it's because we literally can't scale to the size we need to have that kind of relationship with them and do it well in a way it's valuable. I think that's just the nature of startups and hyper growth."<div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image">Pinterest/GlassdoorPinterest employees.</div></div></div>Pinterest grew revenue by "5X" from 2014 to 2015 and Sharp tells us the company has another "very ambitious goal for revenue this year," and, although he won't share exact numbers, he says "it will be something that will be on or near record pace for a company scaling revenue."<a href="http://techcrunch.com/2015/10/16/leaked-pinterest-documents-show-revenue-growth-forecasts/">Documents leaked to TechCrunch last year</a> suggested Pinterest was forecasting revenue of $169 million in 2015, although the company has declined to confirm these numbers.Sharp said the benefit to advertisers of working with Pinterest is the frame of mind users are in when they visit the platform. They are looking for inspiration and ideas, so the insertion of advertising is not something separate and interruptive, but something useful.Additionally: "We know probably more than anybody about what's trending and what's interesting right now. Both at a macro level around the world, but also at a country level."The company has also made several advertising product announcements in recent months, <a href="http://techcrunch.com/2016/03/08/pinterest-opens-up-its-ads-manager-tools-to-smaller-and-medium-sized-businesses/">most recently including its international advertising launch and opening up its self-serve ads manager platform to all businesses</a>.<h2>The biggest misperception: That Pinterest is a social network</h2>Pinterest often gets lumped into comparisons with companies like Facebook or Twitter. The better comparison is probably with Google Search."What's different about Pinterest is that it's not a social service," Sharp said. "It's not really about sharing with friends at all. It's a personal service. It's about ideas for your future. What do you want to eat? Where do you want to travel? What do I want to do in my life?"That's where the advertising campaign comes in. The next three years involves Facebook's own ecosytems, the next five years will focus on its family of apps such as WhatsApp and Messenger, and the 10-year game involves its more ambitious technology efforts, such as artificial intelligence and connectivity offerings.We asked what Pinterest's 10-year plan looks like.Sharp was keen to point out that Facebook (his former employer) is a "very different business": a mature public company with research and development arms across a spectrum of products. Pinterest, meanwhile, is a strong contender to go public one day, having raised $1.3 billion in funding at an $11 billion valuation. Here are the 10 retail and apparel brands that were searched most often in 2013:
1. <a href="http://www.google.com/trends/explore#cmpt=q&amp;q=/m/037x4r&amp;date=1/2013+12m&amp;geo=US">Kohl's</a> - Kohl's appears atop this year's list of most Googled retail and apparel brands for reasons the company would probably rather not talk about. The company <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/five-reasons-kohls-is-in-big-trouble-2013-11">has struggled financially</a> this year, and its search mentions peaked during the week of Thanksgiving and Black Friday, when police officers <a href="http://abclocal.go.com/wls/story?id=9343722">shot a man in a Kohl's parking lot in Illinois</a> to prevent an alleged shoplifting.
2. <a href="http://www.google.com/trends/explore#cmpt=q&amp;q=/m/026h1w&amp;date=1/2013+12m&amp;geo=US">JCPenney</a> - Like Kohl's, JCPenney had a 2013 it would rather forget.
