The government's Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) platform will democratise e-commerce for millions of small retailers in <keyword id="3658" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="india" source="Orion">India</keyword>, paving the way for the rise of more dedicated distribution and logistics companies, Infosys Chairman and Co-founder <keyword id="44604" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="nandan-nilekani" source="Orion">Nandan Nilekani</keyword> said on Tuesday. According to him, ONDC will not be limited to a few players but everyone in India - a person owning a small grocery store, a small electronics retailer or a restaurant owner - bringing millions of such people to the e-commerce marketplace and buyers will come from any consumer app. "Today, India has achieved financial inclusion in about seven-eight years with homegrown technologies like Aadhaar, UPI, QR code and more. The next step is to connect millions of small retailers to mainstream e-commerce with ONDC to create a robust digital public infrastructure," <keyword id="36748" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="nilekani" source="Orion">Nilekani</keyword> said during a <keyword id="6357886" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="phonepe" source="Orion">PhonePe</keyword> launch event. The fintech major announced the launch of a new Shopping app called "<keyword id="4310825" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="pincode" source="Orion">Pincode</keyword>", built on top of the ONDC platform. The app will focus on hyperlocal commerce and is now available for download on Google Play Store and <keyword id="115504" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="app-store" source="Orion">App Store</keyword>. Pincode is currently live only for customers in Bengaluru and will launch in other cities very soon, said the company. Nilekani said that the government is going to democratise e-commerce to take it to the masses. PhonePe said ONDC can foster the rapid growth of a new hyperlocal e-commerce business model. ONDC to foster hyperlocal ecommerce business model in India: Nandan Nilekani

On 5th June, <keyword id="18635" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Amazon">Amazon</keyword>’s Indian business completed five years of operations. To commemorate the occasion, Bezos, the chief executive officer of Amazon, <a href="https://images-eu.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/G/31/img18/Gateway/JeffLetter/Jeff_letter_5yr_PC_new_1x_900_v6._CB476362259_.jpg">posted a letter</a> to <keyword id="6359672" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Customers">customers</keyword> on Amazon’s India website in which he thanked them for making Amazon the “most visited shopping site in India for the last two years”. While domestic rival <keyword id="6354742" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Flipkart">Flipkart</keyword> can also stake a claim to the title of India’s most visited shopping site, Amazon’s growth in India has been impressive. It has 50 fulfillment centres in 13 states disbursing packages to customers every day. More importantly, according to Bezos, it now has customers from every serviceable pincode in the country, owing to outreach programs like Udaan. In fact, according to Amazon’s India chief Amit Agarwal, 85% of the platform’s customers in India are <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/small-biz/startups/newsbuzz/amazon-india-ahead-of-flipkart-claims-agarwal/articleshow/64393758.cms">from small cities</a>. Under Project Udaan, which was launched in 2015, Amazon partners with kirana stores, mobile phone outlets and physical vendors to get customers in remote towns and cities. It trains these sellers to use its online shopping platform and they in turn, use this to help customers order products that they need - earning a commission. Amazon boasts a network of 300,000 sellers, including small businesses and local artisans. It has also invested in local video content like television series and started offering books on its Kindle store in several regional languages. After committing $5 billion worth of capital to its Indian business, Bezos is reported to be mulling an additional infusion of $2 billion in order to take on rival Flipkart. Last month, Walmart decided to purchase a 77% stake in the Indian <keyword id="35621" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="e-commerce">e-commerce</keyword> giant, with the end goal of pushing Amazon out of the online retail space. Both companies will also compete intensely in India’s physical retail market. Despite a 43% jump in revenue, Amazon Seller Services Ltd, which operates Amazon’s India portal, saw its net loss widen by <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/small-biz/startups/newsbuzz/amazon-seller-services-losses-rise-31/articleshow/64409497.cms">31% to ₹48.3 billion</a> in fiscal 2017. Looking ahead In the penultimate paragraph of his letter, Bezos declared that it was still Day 1 of the company’s operations in India. Amazon has ambitious growth plans for the country, which is shaping up to be its most important market outside the US. It is planning to acquire <a href="https://www.business-standard.com/article/companies/as-walmart-flipkart-tie-amazon-targets-next-100-mn-customers-in-india-118053001277_1.html">100 million additional customers</a> in India by 2022. This will involve the construction of new warehouses and promotion of its Prime service as well as regional language options on its website, a push into pincodes that aren’t currently serviceable and the extension of credit to facilitate purchases.

PhonePe gets additional USD 100 million fund from General Atlantic

Leveraging the Flipkart Group's supply chain infrastructure and tech capabilities, Grocery on Shopsy will cater to consumers across 700 cities, spanning over 5,800 pincodes. "Grocery is a key consumer need and we are committed to making e-grocery affordable for consumers and sellers alike. We have been working on reducing the cost of delivering groceries over the last few months. We are happy to announce that we have achieved best in class cost structure which makes us confident of scaling grocery on Shopsy," Prakash Sikaria, Senior Vice President - Growth, Flipkart said in a statement. Grocery on Shopsy will host over 6,000 products across 230 categories - ranging from staples, FMCG, and other dry groceries; matching the selection and range available on <keyword id="7658655" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="flipkart-grocery" source="Orion">Flipkart Grocery</keyword>. With groceries on Shopsy, users can now shop for value groceries by adding and checking out products in their cart or by combining orders for multiple individuals in their network. Users can avail of a flat 5 per cent commission margin that will directly be credited to the linked bank account as well as enjoy up to 50 per cent savings, the company claims. Flipkart's Grocery fulfilment centres including centres in Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Coimbatore, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Patna and Pune that will be leveraged by Shopsy, have fully digitised processes and product quality checks. These centres have implemented effective quality management systems to ensure the products are traceable from raw materials until they reach the consumer, without losing their freshness. Launched by Flipkart in July 2021 with the aim to make digital commerce accessible across India through a zero-commission marketplace. Tim Blakey took to <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/CbmrP3CIDQY/">Instagram</a> to thank Swiss rescue services and Apple for rescuing him. The 41-year old Blakey with over 17 years of snowboarding experience cheated death after a hidden gap in the ice sent him falling over 15 feet while he was snowboarding on a Swiss mountain. The snowboarder reportedly fell into the crevasse, which is a crack in the glacier while snowboarding alone. Luckily, Blakey landed on a snow bridge, which he described as ‘fragile’. His iPhone had only 3% battery left, and water was dripping on the display. Fortunately, he was able to connect to a 3G signal and use the iPhone’s emergency SOS service shortcut. Blakey was able to use the iPhone’s 5-click to emergency services shortcut to connect to emergency services. He added that it took 20 minutes for him to reach someone on the phone and he was rescued 45 minutes later. Luckily, he escaped just with a ligament injury to his ankle. “Life 2.0 starts now. Thank you to all my close friends and family for all your support and love. It’s been really really amazing. I obviously promise never to do it again mum and dad. Now, drag the slider to connect to emergency services. </li><li>If you are unable to drag the slider for some reason, you can continue to hold the buttons and a countdown will begin with an alert sound.
