Mumbai, Kerala-based ESAF Small Finance Bank on Monday filed its Draft Red Herring Prospectus (DRHP) with markets regulator <keyword id="5083555" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Securities-and-Exchange-Board-of">Securities and Exchange Board of</keyword> India for an IPO.<br /><br />As per the DRHP, the aggregate issue size is up to ₹997.78 crore, comprising of a fresh issue component of up to ₹800 crore and an Offer for Sale up to ₹197.78 crore by promoter and other selling shareholders i.e <keyword id="8150050" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="PNB-MetLife-India-Insurance-Company">PNB Metlife India Insurance Company</keyword>, Bajaj Allianz Life Insurance Ltd, <keyword id="4412564" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Pi-Ventures-LLP">PI Ventures LLP</keyword>, and John Chakola.<br /><br />The net proceeds from the fresh issue will be used to augment the bank's Tier 1 capital (primarily loans, advances and investment portfolio) to meet future capital requirements.<br /><br />The company may consider a pre-IPO placement of up to ₹300 crore, subject to counsel from the lead managers.<br /><br />As per the CRISIL report, ESAF is one of the leading small finance banks in terms of yield on advances, AUM growth rate, and share of retail deposits. It currently operates across 21 states and two Union Territories with 550 branches, 421 customer service centres (which are operated by its business correspondents), 12 business correspondents, 158 banking agents and 327 ATMs and serves over 4.68 million customers.<br /><br />As of March 2021, ESAF's gross advances stood at ₹8,415 crore, compared with ₹6,606.51 crore a year ago and total deposits were at ₹8,999.43 crore against ₹7,028.38 crore.<br /><br />Additionally, the DRHP states that the bank will continue to focus on its rural and semi-urban franchisees and increase deposits across NRIs and CASA. This cannot be defined as a capital outflow but more like an opportunity lost for equity investments. <br /><br />“The last generation wanted to invest in real estate, then came the generation of 90s-2010s when their investments went into equity and over the next 10-20 years, the upcoming generation will get their first exposure on investment through crypto,” Sandeep added. He noted that investments are not being diverted from equity to crypto as of now.<br /><br />The volatility of the crypto market has allowed investors to maximise their profits from this underregulated segment. <p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Entrepreneur First</span></p><p class="caption">Entrepreneur First cofounders Matt Clifford and Alice Bentinck.</p></div><p></p></div></div>Entrepreneur First, a London-founded technology incubator that helps technical individuals to build a startup, is hoping to tap into the deep pockets of US investors.</p><p>The startup builder <a href="https://medium.com/@mattwichrowski/efs-coming-to-america-4652e78580ac#.cit25p8j0" target="_blank">announced on Tuesday</a> that it is setting up a new investment team in a bid to help the founders on its programme to reach more investors and access more early-stage capital.</p><p>The investment team will be spread across the US, the <keyword id="6354868" type="COUNTRY" weightage="60" keywordseo="UK">UK</keyword>, and Singapore - where Entrepreneur First also runs its company building programme. </p><p>Matt Wichrowski, head of investment at Entrepreneur First wrote in a Medium <a href="https://medium.com/@mattwichrowski/efs-coming-to-america-4652e78580ac#.cit25p8j0" target="_blank">blog post titled "EF's coming to America"</a> on Tuesday that Europe continues to trail the US in both deal count and aggregate investment.</p><p>Wichrowski referred readers to the latest CB Insights <a href="https://www.cbinsights.com/blog/venture-capital-deal-decline-q2-2016/" data-href="https://www.cbinsights.com/blog/venture-capital-deal-decline-q2-2016/">Venture Pulse Report</a>, which found that US startups raised $53.9 billion (£42 billion) in the second quarter of 2016 while European startups raised just $6.3 billion (£4.9 billion) over the same time frame.</p><p>"We must recognise that European capital has not effectively kept up with European talent, and rather than wait for others to come to us, we're taking action," he wrote.</p><p>"My primary task will be to build an EF investor network composed of the best VCs, syndicates and angels across the States." Wichrowski added: "My mission will be to provide our teams a highly curated view of the most relevant investors and tailored guidance for their unique fundraising needs. And my hope is that this upfront effort will significantly reduce the time and energy drain for our founders."</p><p>Founded by Matt Clifford and Alice Bentinck in 2011, Entrepreneur First provides deeply technical people with £17,000 in pre-seed funding so they can build a technology startup. In return, it takes an 8% equity stake in the company that is created.</p><p>The 75 startups that have previously graduated from the programme have been backed by the likes of Index Ventures and Y Combinator. Collectively, these startups are now worth more than $400 million (£308 million), according to <a href="http://www.joinef.com/#build-the-future" target="_blank">Entrepreneur First's website</a>.</p><p>The Entrepreneur First portfolio includes deep tech firms like AI startup Magic Pony Technology, which was <a href="http://uk.businessinsider.com/twitter-acquired-a-london-startup-called-magic-pony-2016-6" target="_blank">sold to Twitter for a reported $150 million (£115 million)</a>, as well as hardware startups like laser bike light Blaze and Raspberry Pi laptop kit Pi-Top.</p><p>Interestingly, Entrepreneur First <a href="http://uk.businessinsider.com/entrepreneur-first-aims-to-raise-40-million-fund-2016-3" target="_blank">announced in March</a> that it was aiming to raise a £40 million investment fund of its own to back the companies that graduate from its programme. A UK startup factory is going to the US to find more money for its founders

In return, it takes an 8% equity stake in the company that is created.</p><p>The "Next Stage Fund" will allow Entrepreneur First to provide its startups "with an immediate injection of capital" when they reach the end of the programme, which is being expanded from six months to 12 months.</p><p>The fund, set to be deployed later this year, will also be used to back Entrepreneur First companies when they raise their seed and series A rounds.</p><p>Bentinck told Business Insider on Tuesday that the fund will allow Entrepreneur First to provide better support to the technical founders that she and Clifford look to back.</p><p>Clifford, CEO of Entrepreneur First, said a number of "significant commitments" have already been made towards the fund without revealing any of further details.</p><h2>New general partners</h2><p>Entrepreneur First, based out of an old biscuit factory in Bermondsey, South London, also announced two new general partners: Wendy Tan White and Joe White. The duo, previously venture partners at Entrepreneur First, are the cofounders of website building software provider Moonfruit, which was <a href="http://techcrunch.com/2012/05/15/moonfruit-finally-exits-for-29-million-in-cash-to-re-energise-yell/" target="_blank">acquired by Yell for $29 million (£20 million) in 2012</a>.</p><p>Wendy Tan White said: "We believe Entrepreneur First is at an inflection point. Entrepreneur First is at the stage YC was when Sequoia came in. The opportunity of the next stage fund is unique."</p><p>Joe White added: "We looked at doing another startup, and were offered investment to do so, we were offered roles in government and strategic consultancies, we started angel investing and we were approached to set up a fund by institutions from the <keyword id="6354868" type="COUNTRY" weightage="60" keywordseo="UK">UK</keyword> and US. Entrepreneur First's philosophy of company building vs. deal selection as a route to generate high performance returns was critical in our choice to join as General Partners and to help hone <span data-term="goog_589158524">tomorrow's technical talent." </span></p><p>The new fund and the appointment of the Whites to general partner status coincided with the latest Entrepreneur First "demo day," which will see 25 startups pitch their businesses to a room full of investors.</p><p>The 50 startups that have previously graduated the programme have raised over $60 million (£42 million) in venture capital from global investors, according to Entrepreneur First. Collectively, these startups are now worth more than $250 million (£176 million). Entrepreneur First wants to raise a &#163;40 million fund to invest in companies emerging from its startup factory

<p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Entrepreneur First</span></p><p class="caption">Matt Clifford (left) and Alice Bentinck of Entrepreneur First.</p></div><p></p></div></div>Some of the most talented people in Britain are leaving top jobs at big firms for the chance to build their own tech startup on a company building programme that is now firmly on the radar of Europe's best-known investors.</p><p>Deeply technical people working at Silicon Valley giants like Google or investment banks like Goldman are handing in their notice and signing up to Entrepreneur First, a year long programme that helps people find a cofounder and provides them wi tht the support they need to build a business.</p><p>Entrepreneur First - founded in 2011 by Matt Clifford and Alice Bentinck - began by accepting less than 20 people a year from the best universities when it launched in London in 2013. Today, it accepts over 200 people a year from universities, big name firms, and other areas.</p><p>"If we take a moment to reflect on what we've been doing over the last five years, probably the bit we're proudest of is the people who are now joining," Clifford told Business Insider at the company's Demo Day last week. "In year one, we would have been like: 'Oh can you imagine if so and so joined?' Now they're lining up to join.</p><p>"The list of companies people have dropped out of to join EF is like Google, Palantir, Microsoft, Facebook, Samsung, McKinsey, Bain, JP Morgan, Goldman Sachs."</p><p>Rory Greig, for example, left his job as a software developer analyst at Goldman Sachs in June 2014 to join Entrepreneur First. Meanwhile, George Thomas interned at Google in 2014 before joining Entrepreneur First in 2015.</p><p>At the Demo Day, one company that caught the eye of investors was a startup called Lingumi, which helps pre-school children to learn English in countries where English is not the first language. Lingumi has been <a href="http://uk.businessinsider.com/lingumi-the-startup-everyone-was-talking-about-at-efs-demo-day-2016-3" target="_blank">founded by </a><a href="http://uk.businessinsider.com/lingumi-the-startup-everyone-was-talking-about-at-efs-demo-day-2016-3" target="_blank">Oxford languages graduate Toby Mather and former J.P. In return, it takes an 8% equity stake.</p><p>During the six months, members of the cohort team up with like-minded people on the EF programme and cofound a company with mentoring and support from the EF network. They also get a desk to work from.</p><p>EF, which plans to launch its programme in Singapore this October, <a href="http://www.techworld.com/news/startups/entrepreneur-first-scoops-85m-for-its-company-building-crash-course-3619843/" target="_blank">raised £8.5 million last July</a> from a range of investors. However, none of that money is being used for the expansion. Instead, the bill is being picked up by Infocomm Investments, a venture capital unit funded by the Singapore government to the tune of $200 million (£141 million). Infocomm Investments did not disclose how much it is giving EF for the expansion.</p><p>The Singapore government hopes the launch of EF in Singapore will fuel startup development in the island-state and encourage more young Singaporeans to pursue a career in technology as opposed to finance or professional services - the industries Singapore has become famous for.</p><p>Representatives from Infocomm Investments and the Singapore government attended an event in London this week to mark what is EF's first overseas foray.</p><p>Speaking at EF's new London space, a former biscuit factory in Bermondsey, Singapore's Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for Economic and Social Policies, Tharman Shanmugaratnam, said Singapore needs to get more people interested in building innovative young companies.</p><p>"Entrepreneur First is a very interesting model that will be a useful addition to our ecosystem in Singapore," said Shanmugaratnam. "There's potential not just to create startups but also to change perceptions as to what the more desired career paths are in Singapore. That's a very important part of what we're trying to do."</p><p>Steve Leonard, chairman of Infocomm Investments, told Business Insider: "I met Matt and Alice a couple of years ago, so having watched their journey, it became more clear that what they're doing is something we could benefit from."</p><p>It's understood that Clifford and Bentinck initially refused to expand to Singapore because they wanted to focus on growing the UK operation but they came round to the idea eventually .</p><p>Leonard said: "They met a bunch of students in Singapore and came back and said 'you know what there's actually a lot of raw material there in terms of [talented] young kids and money.'"</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Blaze</span></p><p class="caption">The idea for the Blaze laser-light was conceived on the EF program.</p></div><p></p></div></div></p><p>Clifford and Bentinck denied that they were expanding EF to Singapore purely because that's where Infocomm Investments, now one of its largest backers, is based.</p><p>Clifford, who is also CEO of EF, said, "Entrepreneur First is the biggest creator of startups in Europe, and we have ambitions to be even bigger. We started with the vision that the best and most ambitious people will be founders. When talking about talent, innovation and the desire to create startups, Singapore is second to none."</p><p>"With the strong support of Infocomm Investments, our first international office in Singapore marks a new chapter for us and we are extremely excited."</p><p>To date, EF has built 45 startups which have raised over $60 million (£42 million) in venture capital funding. Collectively, these startups are now worth more than $250 million (£176 million), EF claims. <p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Reuters/Luke MacGregor</span></p><p class="caption">Founders Factory founder Brent Hoberman.</p></div><p></p></div></div>Building technology companies worth tens of billions of pounds often requires one or two exceptionally talented individuals with strong computer science backgrounds and entrepreneurial spirits.</p><p>Finding these people can be time consuming and difficult, which is why a couple of <keyword id="6354868" type="COUNTRY" weightage="60" keywordseo="UK">UK</keyword> organisations have turned to artificial intelligence and software. </p><p>In the last month, Founders Forum, a network of successful startup founders and business leaders, and company builder Entrepreneur First, have both revealed they are using artificial intelligence (AI) and custom-built software to identify the UK's most promising founders. </p><h2>Finding the "Founders of the Future"</h2><p>Founders Forum, set up by serial entrepreneur and lastminute.com cofounder Brent Hoberman, used artificial intelligence (AI) to help it select 100 future UK tech founders aged 16-35, or <a href="http://uk.businessinsider.com/london-tech-entrepreneur-matt-miller-10-downing-street-shorts-founders-of-the-future-ed-vaizey-2016-3" target="_blank">the "Founders of the Future."</a></p><p>"An AI simulates what a human might do but at scale; with more data and no bias," said Dr Tom Bowles, data scientist and founder in residence at Founders Factory, a startup accelerator launched by Brent Hoberman. "Our model continually learns, and as we get additional data on the career trajectories of the Founders of the Future community, we'll be able to accurately predict who will start tech companies.</p><p>"By looking at each individual in the context of what they have achieved, within their relevant field, biases like gender or location can be minimised," added Bowles, who holds a PhD from Oxford University. "This means that AI can have a significant impact on diversity; it doesn't care about someone's background, it only sees the potential within them."</p><p>Before Founders Forum created its AI, which it describes as a "complex algorithm," profiles of successful entrepreneurs were evaluated to uncover overlapping characteristics. Recruiters and venture investors were also interviewed to uncover key characteristics they consider in evaluating top founders.</p><p>In addition to the AI, Founders Forum also asked universities, entrepreneurial organisations, and existing founders of successful technology companies for their recommendations on who should make the Founders of the Future list. </p><p>The full cohort met at a launch event at No. 10 Downing Street in March, which was attended by digital economy minister Ed Vaizey and <a href="http://uk.businessinsider.com/london-tech-entrepreneur-matt-miller-10-downing-street-shorts-founders-of-the-future-ed-vaizey-2016-3" target="_blank">successful entrepreneurs like Matt Miller</a>, who cofounded design studio Ustwo.</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>REUTERS/Stefan Wermuth</span></p><p class="caption">Mustafa Al-Bassam arrives at Southwark Crown Court in central London May 15, 2013.</p></div><p></p></div></div>Reformed hacker Mustafa Al-Bassam and Stanford dropout George Burgess were among those that were selected as "Founders of the Future."</p><p>Rikke Koblauch, 24, a UX/UI developer at Ustwo, was also identified as a Founder of the Future, via both the AI and peer review process. She said: "After working as a designer in the Ustwo Swedish studio I decided to join the London team. I'm Danish and came here with a one way ticket, a pet bunny and just bag of clothes.</p><p>"I'm not a typical cut-out of many entrepreneurs, but my ambition is to set up a company and build something that will make lives better - so it's fascinating the AI found me. I'm very flattered to be also nominated by Mills, the founder of Ustwo and I'm sure the Founders of the Future community will give me an extra push towards achieving my dream."</p><h2>Using software to put the Entrepreneur First</h2><p>Entrepreneur First, a company building programme for deeply technical people, is also using software to help it find technically talented individuals at universities like Cambridge and <a href="http://uk.businessinsider.com/some-of-britains-smartest-people-are-leaving-google-and-goldman-to-join-entrepreneur-first-2016-3" target="_blank">companies like Google and Goldman Sachs</a>.</p><p>Founded in 2011 by Matt Clifford and Alice Bentinck, Entrepreneur First is a year-long programme that helps people find a cofounder and provides them with the support they need to build a tech startup. Some of them are really basic like which companies did you work at, what did you study, where did you study, who do you know?</p><p>"We're not in any way trying to imply that we use the software to make the decision. But there are hundreds of thousands of people out there who might be of interest to us. How do we focus our time on those who are the most suited? For us it's mainly an optimisation problem.
