Especially since we have seen the rise of viable options from brands like Xiaomi, OnePlus, TCL and others. Recently we also reviewed <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/news/philips-8100-series-50-inch-smart-tv-review/articleshow/92363078.cms">Philips 8100 series</a> 4K LED TV, a solid product only dwarfed by its price. Since then, the market has raised the bar, and now we see QLED panels in the same price bracket. Enter the Kodak Matrix QLED 4K Smart TV. Kodak, a fairly new brand in this smart TV category, seems to have gotten it right. The TV has a QLED Panel, a decent processor, and Google TV OS. But does this spec sheet translate to a great viewing experience? I answer that in my review. Price &amp; Availability Kodak Matrix QLED TV is available in three screen sizes. A 50-inch screen size variant is offered at a price of ₹33,999. The second variant offers a 55-inch screen size priced at ₹40,999. Finally, there is a variant with a 65-inch screen size priced at ₹59,999. The Smart TV is available exclusively on Flipkart. It follows a textbook design language that involves an overall black frame with no attempt to break the monotony. Yes, it is minimalistic, but if you have a swanky living room, it might look out of place. I wish brands could take the aesthetics of a TV more seriously and try to adapt small changes, like a silver trim on the chin. The Matrix QLED redeems itself when we move to the build quality. The TV feels robust and heavy, reassuring of its build quality. This is important since TVs sit in their spots for long periods, generally forever. So, having a strong build quality becomes paramount. The installation process of the TV is also fairly straightforward. You can either install it on the wall with the bundled mount. Or, you can set it up on a table with the provided metallic legs. Kodak provides the necessary ports on the TV to connect multiple devices. Three HDMI ports and two USB ports on the TV combined with an AUX port. Port placement is also favorable for cable management and reach. Like it is generally for smart TVs, the remote also sports a minimalistic design, with shortcut keys for applications. The remote is made of good quality plastic and feels light in hand. The in-built microphone on the remote is also uber-responsive, not missing my voice command even once. The remote control has an IR blaster unit and shortcut keys for applications. It is responsive, and the in-built microphone works really well, rarely missing out on speech recognition. And it is gorgeous to look at, making you forget about the subdued styling and aesthetics. And surprisingly, all the variants come with 4K/UHD resolution support. So the native applications on the Google TV OS and third-party OTT apps fully utilize these specs. Throughout the weekend, I caught up with the House of the Dragon on Disney+ Hotstar. A perfect show to test the prowess of this TV. From the first frame itself, the images rendered are breathtaking when the HDR kicks in. The video output is crisp, with top-notch color accuracy and details. To the point that I could count the feathers on Rhenyra’s dragon. Since it is a 10-bit panel, it produces 1.1 billion colors and has a peak brightness of 550 nits. And as one would expect, it gets really bright. Rounding back to my experience of watching House of the Dragons, certain frames can be too dark to retain vision. The color banding was also minimal, only noticeable in long intervals or when a frame suddenly shifted from a dark setup to a bright one. Light bleeding was also minimal on the TV. The TV also supports Dolby Vision and HDR10+. As I mentioned, compatible applications like Netflix and Prime also take full advantage of this. There are some interesting presets for display settings on the TV for different types of content. There is a movie mode, sports mode, energy-saving mode, and vivid picture mode. I found the movie mode to work the best across all content genres. It maintains the right balance of contrast and color tones. I switched to user mode, where I had created a dedicated preset for playing games on my console. Beyond these presets, there are some advanced settings as well. You can control dynamic backlighting, which means you can control the dimming on the TV. You also get Luma control and DI film mode as well. DI film mode is interesting since it allows the TV to recognize the movies done in 24fps and refrains from applying motion smoothing. It lets you watch the film as intended by the filmmaker. Unfortunately, we don’t see any dedicated game mode or a high refresh rate here. A higher refresh rate would have added a kick to my console gaming. It features a 40W stereo speaker setup supporting Dolby Atmos and DTS TruSurround sound. I have used the TV extensively with the default audio settings, and the experience is pleasing. The audio output is loud but lacks a subwoofer so the thump in the bass is flat. Especially for a smart tv without a dedicated subwoofer. The downward-facing speakers deliver crisp details and a sound that could fill my drawing room. The experience gets immersive with TruSurround sound mode. It opens the sound stage for better details, and movies supporting the DTS format get even better. For a drawing room of 20ft x 10ft in my case I did not find the need to use a soundbar. But, if you have a bigger room then you should definitely consider a dedicated speaker set-up. Kodak has stuck the right chord here. Turning on the TV, we get to see the Google TV animation, and things go only upward from here. As expected, the UI is clean and shows no signs of bloatware or a third-party skin. To the point and easy to understand, the elders in my family could also find their way around the TV. This is an important factor since that age group generally uses a TV. Google TV OS also means unprecedented access to the Google Play store. Optimized and loaded with TV-specific applications, it delivers a complete experience to the user. You can download games, music streaming apps like Spotify, Youtube music, and, of course popular OTT apps. Google TV brings in favorite Google features as well. Like Google Chromecast, and voice assistant, both of which work pretty well here. All this aside, unfortunately, it retains the same minor annoying issues we are used to on Google TV OS. Most prominently, we can’t change the picture settings while we are watching something in an application. I hope we see this feature soon enough. Coming out to make the switch in picture settings just breaks the flow altogether. Another problem that is not on Kodak’s end is the fact that you can’t continue watching content on Netflix and Prime Video. This is when you have the same account logged in with your mobile device and TV. So you can consider this a heads-up. While the UI is mostly stable and clean, I am a bit disappointed with the bootup speed of the TV. After turning it on, it takes about a minute and a half to set up. It doesn’t sound too much, but after a while, it gets annoying. The lag remains when switching between applications as well, with the TV taking its sweet time to land on an application. I feel the 2GB RAM on the TV is not enough to handle the software it carries. Storage space, however, is fine at 16GB. Enough to download applications and then some files if you wish to. Verdict Kodak Matric QLED TV is an ideal range of smart TVs under a tight budget. Starting at ₹33,999 for the 50-inch variant, they are easy to recommend considering the features they offer. Yes, the audio setup is a bit underwhelming but the TV makes up for it with a solid display prowess, a stable Google TV OS and healthy connectivity options.

<ul><li><keyword id="2210217" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="oneplus" source="Orion">OnePlus</keyword> U1S 65-inch is among the best 65-inch TVs on a budget that come with all the popular smart features.</li><li>It’s been used for over a hundred hours and it’s managed to impress in most areas except for a couple.</li></ul>It's been over two years since OnePlus got into the TV segment with its premium Q1 and Q1 Pro. While after two years, the premium QLED TVs are still a great deal for the price, the company decided to follow up with budget variants for a wider consumer base. The latest in the portfolio is its U-series TVs that don't use the QLED panels but is a value offering for those who are ok to have an IPS LED panel in bigger size and lesser price, which is usual in this segment. I have been using the 65-inch U1S TV for over four months which is a fair amount of time to find out whether it's a safe investment or not as it’s been used for over a hundred hours. It has received a handful of software updates refining the user experience over time, and some initial bugs have also been fixed. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Price and competition" comment="subhead" text="Price and competition">Price and competition</cmsannotation> If you're looking to buy a 65-inch TV, you must read this review because this TV might save you some money. The OnePlus U1S 65-inch retails at ₹66,999, and its counterparts from Sony, LG and Samsung cost between ₹90,000-1,00,000, while brands like Xiaomi, HiSense and others are priced similarly. The Redmi X65 4K LED TV comes closest to taking on the U1S at ₹60,000. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="OnePlus U1S display performance" comment="subhead" text="OnePlus U1S display performance">OnePlus U1S display performance</cmsannotation> The U1S, as mentioned, has an IPS panel with 4K resolution and supports HDR 10, HDR 10+ but no Dolby Vision. The picture quality on the panel is splendid regardless of the low cost and the panel type. You can't compare it to more expensive counterparts having OLED or QLED but the colour accuracy and tones look very close to natural in both HDR and SDR content. Even more impressive is that the blacks look great, which is an uncommon trait on IPS panels and the same goes for the viewing angles and dark scenes. It's been a go-to screen for me for quite some time for dozens of shows and movies that came out during the course. The HDR performance of the TV is quite impressive for the price but it falls short in some areas compared to slightly premium competitors from Philips and Vu which are priced around 80K, and at that price, the best bet is to go for the 55-inch OnePlus Q1 Pro. While there's no Dolby Vision support, the HDR 10 and 10+ does enhance the results for HDR content if supported. The colour reproduction and tones, sharpness and brightness are very impressive. Even for SDR content, the quality was at par with the best in this range, it shows evenly saturated colour tones and crisp details with ample brightness. There's also an option to change picture modes and other settings like brightness, warmth etc to suit your preference. But of all the modes, we liked the 'Movie' the best for watching shows and movies. It also upscales regular 24fps and 30fps content to 60fps without showing any sign of stutter with the help of MEMC. It's great to watch fast-moving content like sports and even movies that support a higher refresh rate. I did not notice any banding or clouding issue, which used to be a common trait on LED panels, but this one does a great job in that department. I would recommend you to keep the TV in a position where there's no light source on the opposite sides as you might see the reflection on the screen in dark scenes. Even with the peak brightness, the issue sustains and it can be seen in the pictures I took of the TV. If you're a gamer with any of the new consoles with support for high refresh rate at 4K resolution, this TV can do a fair job for gaming as well. it supports HDMI 2.1 with Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM) which turns on as soon as you plug your console. I used my PS5 to play some new titles like Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Ghost of Tsushima and some multiplayer games like Fifa 21, and Rocket League and I didn't find a reason to complain unless your expectations are supremely high. It handles 60fps well, has great black levels and doesn't miss a single particle effect. Ghosts of Tsushima is a visual treat in itself and the TV doesn't upset in showing the beautiful horizons in their full glory. Details like the blowing wind, greenery, water and even combat sequences look great. Overall, this TV is tuned well for content ranging from animated cartoons to dark DC movies. Not only that, but gamers can also resort to this one if OLED and QLEDs are out of budget and the size matters more than the picture quality. Overall, the TV has a good panel for content consumption and gaming and this is where the praises for the TV come to an end as we will now venture into areas that have some issues that could affect your purchase decision. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Audio performance" comment="subhead" text="Audio performance">Audio performance</cmsannotation> As soon as I set up this TV, I went to YouTube to check the audio and I was a little disappointed. Not that I enjoy the audio now, but software updates over the months has improved the audio performance by a thick margin. The TV also supports Dolby Atmos, which means you can attach a supported soundbar or speaker if you wish to experience the best of what it has to offer. <div type="image" title="OnePlus TV Audio." msid="87667218" hostid="261"></div>The TV's audio is tuned in collaboration with Dynaudio and has two bottom-firing speaker units with 30W output. I am not a fan of built-in speakers on affordable TVs as the content nowadays is made for bigger and better speakers just like the screens. While the U1S does a fair job at voice clarity, loudness and definition, the bass response leaves you asking for more. You won't have the best experience watching a movie or even listening to a song unless you connect it to an external speaker. It's good enough for family members who watch daily soaps, cartoons, podcasts, news or even for gaming. So, investing in an external speaker is suggested only if you wish the get a theatre-like movie watching experience at home. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="User Interface and performance" comment="subhead" text="User Interface and performance">User Interface and performance</cmsannotation> Like all OnePlus TVs, the U1S also comes with Android TV 10 with a layer of OxygenPlay on top. It's a hybrid OS, which means you can operate in either of the two with a click of a button, which is a good addition as a preferential alternative. It offers tons of customisation options, modes and features but thankfully it doesn't make the interface look cluttered or ugly. Even kids and first time smart TV users can navigate through with ease. It offers multiple casting options like Miracast, Chromecast, and DLNA. There's also a seamless Google Assistant support that is accurate and fast, but at times it wakes up even when there's an 'Ok Google' advertisement on the TV. <div type="image" title="OnePlus TV UI." msid="87667205" hostid="261"></div>Other impressive features include the data saver mode, parental control using Connect app, and also screentime monitoring. The OnePlus Connect app not just acts as a remote control but also to play media using the phone. Lastly, the ecosystem that OnePlus is building with its accessories is also promising for the future. For example, those who own a OnePlus Watch can use it as a remote control, also the TV detects the TWS buds and enables quick pair when it's around the TV. However, we expect it to be more intuitive and seamless to call it a valuable addition to the overall experience. Especially, when they're restricted to OnePlus products that might not be the best investment for a user. The performance of the U1S is one area where the affordability of the TV becomes evident. While it did work smoothly initially, it did not keep it consistent over the past three months. It has a Mediatek MT9612 SoC with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. Instances like switching between OxygenPlay and Android, opening apps like Netflix or Amazon Prime wasn't seamless as it stutters in between the process occasionally. The hiccups and lags are seen across the UI and more specifically in third party apps even those which come preinstalled. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Design, build and connectivity" comment="subhead" text="Design, build and connectivity">Design, build and connectivity</cmsannotation> The <keyword id="11344674" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="oneplus-tv-u1s" source="Orion">OnePlus TV U1S</keyword> comes with tabletop feet and wall mount options, but I chose the former in my usage. Like most large-sized thin TVs this one also wobbles, but the feet are of metal and hold it sturdily so it won't fall off unless it's pushed with force. Also, the feet are placed widely unlike some TVs that have the stand in the centre, which means you'll need to have a big TV stand to place it. <div type="image" title="OnePlus TV Stand." msid="87667311" hostid="261"></div> The build quality is at par with my expectations at this price and also the standard. The bezels are minimal, the ports are convenient to reach. It has 3 HDMI ports, 2 USB ports, an RF port, an AV port and an optical port. It also supports dual-band Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.0. <div type="image" title="OnePlus TV bezel." msid="87667259" hostid="261"></div>In terms of dimensions, ‎it is 21.2 x 88.8 x 144.8 cm and weighs 18.3 kg. The remote control has a new design, a better build quality and is very ergonomic to use. The power buttons remain embedded in the OnePlus button, which does confuse anyone who uses the TV for the first time, but it's not a deal-breaker. It has its own share of shortcomings like average audio, stuttery UI and occasionally slow response rates. I got a 32-inch Sony TV as a Christmas gift in 2014, right before I moved into my first solo apartment. It was perfect for my needs at the time: it fit on my mantle, it had an HDMI port that allowed me to connect my laptop to play movies once in a while, and it sounded pretty good in my small, one-bedroom place.But by 2019, I had mostly worn out the speakers - I had to crank the volume nearly all the way up in order to hear something - and the size felt too small to properly enjoy movies or football games. My fiancé and I decided it was time to upgrade: we purchased a Vizio smart TV (a steal at less than $250) and hooked it up to an Apple TV. At this point, I was ready to hand off my old TV to any friend who wanted it, or put it by the curb and hope it ended up in a good home. But then I remembered I had an extra Chromecast dongle lying around - the perks of being a former tech reviewer - and decided to give it a shot. For the unfamiliar, a Chromecast allows you to stream on your TV from a phone, tablet, or laptop. It plugs into your TV via the HDMI port and works with all major streaming apps, like HBO, Netflix, Hulu, and, of course, YouTube. All you have to do is open the app on your iPhone or Android device, select what you'd like to watch, and then tap the cast button - your content will then appear on the TV screen as you control it from your phone. This isn't new technology by any means; Chromecast has been on the market since 2013. But I'd argue that the device is even more useful now than it's ever been for three reasons:<ol><li>We're all more used to using our phones for streaming, and many of us watch shows or movies on our smartphones anyway.</li><li>There are more streaming apps than ever before, but <a href="https://gizmodo.com/heres-why-netflix-is-leaving-some-roku-and-samsung-devi-1839782970">not all of them work</a> <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/disney-plus-not-working-vizio-smart-tvs-chromecast-2019-11">on every device</a>, like older smart TVs. Most of them are available on smartphones, however.</li><li>A $35 dongle is significantly cheaper than buying a new smart TV, or even a more sophisticated streaming device like an Apple TV, which will cost you <a href="https://www.apple.com/shop/buy-tv/apple-tv-4k">up to $200.</a></li></ol>And I can now vouch for its usefulness myself: adding a Chromecast to my older TV has completely transformed it from an item I planned to give away into a newly smart TV and a permanent fixture in my bedroom. It's also worth noting that those looking to watch unofficial streams will be out of luck, as only official content is supported.Additionally, the physical act of controlling what you're watching from your phone can be a little wonky. Anytime I need to pause and restart something, or change the volume from my phone, it can be a bit glitchy, as if my phone forgot it was in charge of the stream. It's not a deal-breaker, but I wouldn't recommend Chromecast as the streaming conduit on your main TV for this reason - it will probably end up annoying you.Flaws aside, however, for $35, you're getting your money's worth. GRAPH SEARCH ON MOBILE: Facebook's last ballyhooed desktop-first new feature is now being tested on Facebook's mobile apps. Graph Search is essentially a search engine for Facebook, that allows you to search your connections and their posts for certain pieces of information, such as "What restaurants in New York do my friends like?", or "What are my friends' favorite clothing brands?" The search function has obvious marketing applications, since such searches would provide great opportunities for highly targeted advertisements.
