The country's drugs and <keyword id="20006091" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="pharmaceuticals" source="keywords">pharmaceuticals</keyword> exports increased 9.67 per cent year-on-year to USD 27.9 billion in 2023-24, even as the total exports dipped by 3 per cent in the last fiscal. According to the commerce ministry data, <keyword id="20988985" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="pharma-exports" source="keywords">pharma exports</keyword> in March grew by 12.73 per cent to USD 2.8 billion. In 2022-23, the exports stood at USD 25.4 billion. The top five export markets, for the sector during the last fiscal, are the US, the UK, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, South Africa and Brazil. The US accounts for over 31 per cent of <keyword id="19895063" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="India" source="keywords">India</keyword>'s total pharma exports, followed by the UK and Netherlands (about 3 per cent each). In 2023-24, the outbound shipments also entered new geographies like Montenegro, South Sudan, Chad, Comoros, Brunei, Latvia, Ireland, Chad, Sweden, Haiti and Ethiopia. An industry expert said that increasing market opportunities and healthy demand in countries like the US are helping exports to record healthy growth rates month after month. Experts have said that India's pharmaceutical business may exceed USD 130 billion by 2030, supported by expanding market opportunities and heightened demand in the overseas markets. The business stood at over USD 50 billion for the 2022-23. On average, India exports pharma products worth USD 2-3 billion every month. India's pharmaceutical industry is the third largest by volume and the 13th largest by value in the world, producing more than 60,000 <keyword id="20581305" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="generic-drugs" source="keywords">generic drugs</keyword> across 60 therapeutic categories. India's pharma exports rise 10% to $27.9 bn in FY24

The Indian pharmaceuticals industry is expected to log in a revenue growth of 8-10 per cent in current fiscal aided by a steady domestic growth and increased exports to regulated markets, even as semi-regulated markets face headwinds, according to a report. A study of 186 drug makers, which accounted for about half of the Rs 3.7 lakh crore annual revenue of the sector last fiscal, indicates as much, <keyword id="6359483" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="crisil" source="Orion">Crisil</keyword> said on Monday. "Similar to last fiscal, domestic growth in fiscal 2024, will be led by 5-6 per cent increase in realisations, supported partly by high price hikes allowed by the <keyword id="390804" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="national-pharmaceutical-pricing-authority" source="Orion">National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority</keyword> (NPPA) for drugs under price regulation," Crisil Research Director <keyword id="13891160" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="aniket-dani" source="Orion">Aniket Dani</keyword> said. In addition, sale of existing drugs and new launches will drive 3-4 per cent volume growth, he added. Operating profitability is also seen improving 50-100 basis points (bps) to 21 per cent this fiscal, supported by moderation in input and logistics costs, and abating pricing pressure in the US generics market, it said. This follows two consecutive years of margin contraction due to high pricing pressure in the US and a sharp rise in input costs caused by supply chain disruption during the Covid pandemic, and thereafter, Crisil noted. Credit profiles will remain stable owing to low-leverage balance sheets and moderate capex plans, it stated. In the ongoing fiscal, domestic sales are expected to witness 8-10 per cent growth with the chronic segment expected to be the key contributor to revenues, because of the steady increase in lifestyle-related diseases and continued emphasis on health awareness, post the pandemic, Crisil said. Formulation exports are seen up 7-9 per cent in rupee terms this fiscal, more driven by volumes, from new product launches, and abating price pressure in the US generics markets, it said. On the other hand, increase in claw-back taxes in select <keyword id="28249" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="europe" source="Orion">Europe</keyword>an markets could lead to lower growth in exports to Europe this fiscal, it added. "Growth in exports to Asia will improve this fiscal, after clocking a modest growth last fiscal, while exports to Africa will continue to remain sluggish on account of low forex reserves (impacting the purchasing power) and high currency volatility," Crisil said. Lower input prices and normalisation of supply chains should cull inventories to pre-pandemic levels, resulting in smaller incremental working capital debt this fiscal, it added. Indian pharma industry to log in 8-10% revenue growth this fiscal: Crisil

New Delhi [India], November 13 (ANI): <keyword id="178886" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="indian-manufacturing" source="Orion">Indian manufacturing</keyword> has accelerated through the second quarter of 2023-24 and is likely to continue for the subsequent quarters of the financial year 2023-24, notwithstanding the slowdown in developed nations, industry body <keyword id="19481819" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ficcis-latest-quarterly" source="Orion">FICCI's latest quarterly</keyword> survey revealed. The industry body's latest quarterly survey assessed the performance and sentiments of manufacturers for the July-September 2023-24 quarter for ten major sectors -- automotive and auto components, capital goods and construction equipment, cement, chemicals fertilizers and pharmaceuticals, electronics and white goods, machine tools, metal and metal products, textiles, apparels and technical textiles, paper, and miscellaneous. It sought responses from over 380 manufacturing units from both the large and SME segments with a combined annual turnover of over Rs 4.88 lakh crores. The existing average capacity utilization in the Indian manufacturing sector is around 74 per cent, slightly higher than the 73 per cent recorded during the previous quarters. The future <keyword id="628648" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="investment-outlook" source="Orion">investment outlook</keyword> has also improved as compared to the previous quarter as over 57 per cent of respondents reported plans for investments and expansions in the coming six months. This is also a slight improvement over the previous survey. In terms of major constraints, demand is a limiting factor to realise the true potential of the manufacturing sector in India, with over 40 per cent of respondents highlighting this as a significant constraint. "Whether it is domestic demand or exports, this remains a major limiting factor. Some other constraints, though not major ones are high raw material prices, increased cost of finance, logistics, and other supply chain disruptions are some of the major constraints which are affecting expansion plans of the respondents," finds the FICCI survey. The table below gives the average capacity utilization for various sub-sectors of manufacturing: On the export front, performance seems to be better than in previous quarters as over 48 per cent of the respondents reported higher exports in July-September 2023-24 as compared to 33 per cent in Q1 2023-24. "However, further improvement in export demand is required in the light of the country's growth aspiration," FICCI said. Further, the hiring outlook, according to the survey, looks stable with around 38 per cent of the respondents looking at hiring additional workforce in the next three months. "Most sectors have sufficient labour force engaged in their operations and are not facing a shortage of labour at factories. While 82 per cent of our respondents mentioned that they do not have any issues with workforce availability, the remaining 18 per cent feel that there is still a lack of skilled workforce available in their sector," FICCI noted. And with those fattened wallets, there are more biotech companies that can become catnip for potential buyouts or mergers. Their success hinges on the performance of those particular themes, making them more vulnerable to market fluctuations and industry-specific challenges.

New fund alert: 'Axis India Manufacturing Fund'

<ul><li>India’s investments into <keyword id="3347616" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="fixed-assets" source="Orion">fixed assets</keyword> has hit a decadal high in the fourth quarter of FY23. </li><li>In the last quarter of FY23, government capex was up ove 20% compared to the same period a year before. Private entities too will follow suit, says Nirmal Bang. </li><li>Improving affordability and rising loan tenures could possibly sustain a multi-year residential real estate cycle. </li></ul>India’s investments into fixed assets hit a decadal high in the fourth quarter of FY23. Measured in terms of Gross Fixed Capital Formation (GFCF) — which is investments of producers in fixed assets — it’s now at a high of 35.3% of India’s gross domestic product (GDP), as per a research report by Nirmal Bang. The trigger to this high is the Indian government raising its spending. In the last quarter of FY23, its capex was up by 22.9% YoY. Going ahead, the research firm believes that private entities too will go in for capacity expansion —- as capacity utilization of industries is now hovering between 74-75% in the last one year on an average. “Private capex announcements in FY23 more than doubled from pre-pandemic levels and are running ahead of the central and state governments,” said a Nirmal Bang report named India Capex Meter. Overall, new capex crossed the pre-pandemic peak and stood at around ₹12 lakh crore tn in 4QFY23, according to data from CMIE. Multi-year residential real estate cycle Real mortgage rates have risen over the past year, but a structural downtrend persists. The report finds that the Indian household capex has held on, aiding growth in the housing sector. While it did flatten out recently due to rising interest rates, growth in housing credit could possibly sustain marginally above system credit growth, Nirmal Bang believes. “This, along with improving affordability and rising loan tenures could possibly sustain a multi- year residential real estate cycle,” it adds. For corporates, however, real interest rates have recently turned slightly adverse, rising above their long-term trend. This however is unlikely to be a major deterrent in the near term since the initial leg of private capex recovery is unlikely to be bank funded. Capital goods sector Most of the capex indicators have remained in positive territory over the past year, the most significant being the capital goods sector – that builds industries. “While the central government’s persistent capex focus provided the initial thrust, indicators such as capital goods production and capital goods imports too have sustained in the positive territory over the past year,” the report said. Yet another indicator, that’s – the profitability of the capital goods sector has also improved. “Operating profitability of BSE Capital Goods companies has sustained in the positive territory despite persistent pressure on margins. Over the past two quarters, operating profitability of the BSE Capital Goods companies has grown by over 15% YoY,” said Nirmal Bang. There’s more steam left? State and central governments have been steadily spending on building road projects. The road construction has been robust, but the nature of investment into the sector seems to be changing. While state and central governments seem to be slowing down, the <keyword id="53482" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="private-sector" source="Orion">private sector</keyword> is more than making up for it, with project announcements. Bank credit to the sector is also on-point. “Bank credit to the infrastructure sector has seen some sluggishness recently, but bank credit to the roads sector, which is the key beneficiary of government capex, seems to be holding up,” the report said. Manufacturing back to pre-Covid levels Going by the investment proposals, there seems to be a broad-based capex recovery, the research report says. In 4QFY23, investments in the manufacturing sector were about 48% above the pre-Covid level. “Sectors that saw recovery were chemicals, metals, machinery and miscellaneous manufacturing. Investments in food &amp; agro-based products remained below the pre-pandemic level,” said Nirmal Bang. The top sector in terms of investment proposals by value is metals. It is followed by sectors such as sugar, transportation, textiles, drugs &amp; pharmaceuticals, chemicals and fermentation-based pharmaceuticals. Even sectors such as leather are seeing some resurgence, aided by China +1 strategies. The share of sectors like electrical equipment is seen moderating as some of the early Production Linked Incentive (PLI) schemes get implemented. On the other hand, proposals from sectors like food processing and textiles are seen rising.

India emerges as US's new destination for "friend-shoring" pharmaceutical supply chains

An analysis of Company Filing Analytics Database revealed that cybersecurity dominated pharma industry discussions during Q2 2023 as well amid the push for digital transformation. "The growing digital engagement, coupled with the rising occurrence of data breaches, has prompted pharma companies to place a heightened emphasis on roles geared towards minimising enterprise risks. These roles aim to advocate privacy measures and develop cybersecurity strategies that enhance the comprehension of privacy-related risks linked to emerging technologies," said Misa Singh, Business Fundamentals Analyst at GlobalData, in a statement. In August, the global pharmaceutical industry experienced a 19 per cent rise in new job postings related to cybersecurity in Q2 2023 compared with the previous quarter, the report said. In the last one year, the world has lost five billionaires every week. This is only the second time in the last ten years that the number of global billionaires has reduced. Active <keyword id="6357342" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="hiring" source="Orion">hiring</keyword> in non-tech sectors such as <keyword id="6354553" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="real-estate" source="Orion">Real Estate</keyword> and <keyword id="6356925" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="bfsi" source="Orion">BFSI</keyword> (banking, financial services and insurance) in India mitigated the dip in <keyword id="46964" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="it-sector" source="Orion">IT sector</keyword> hiring in April 2023, a new report showed on Monday. According to data by Naukri JobSpeak, the real estate sector spearheaded non-technology industries, witnessing a 21 per cent upswing in recruitment compared to April 2022. This growth was primarily due to an increase in new residential and commercial property launches across metropolitan areas, which prompted hiring in key roles such as Tender Manager, Construction Engineer, and Civil Engineer. "The growth in April hiring activity was dominated by a few key sectors such as Real Estate, BFSI, and <keyword id="47817" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="oil-gas" source="Orion">Oil &amp; Gas</keyword>. While IT-focused metros exhibited a cautious hiring sentiment, emerging cities such as Ahmedabad and Vadodara continue to shine," said Pawan Goyal, Chief Business Officer, Naukri.com. Among the large metros, Kolkata, Pune, and Hyderabad exhibited recruitment surges of 28 per cent, 22 per cent, and 19 per cent, respectively, in hiring for the real estate sector. Aside from real estate, the sectors with the highest growth in hiring activity were the oil and gas sector with 20 per cent growth, the insurance sector with 13 per cent growth, and the banking sector with 11 per cent growth compared to the same month the previous year. Recruitment in the automotive and pharmaceutical industries increased by 4 per cent and 3 per cent, respectively. Moreover, the report said that the IT industry hiring continued its ongoing correction with a 27 per cent decrease in hiring activity compared to April last year. Other than IT, sectors such as BPO, EdTech, and Retail also registered declines of 18 per cent, 21 per cent, and 23 per cent, respectively. Among non-metro cities, Ahmedabad leads hiring trends with a 28 per cent increase in new job creation over the previous year, followed by Vadodara and Jaipur with 14 per cent and 9 per cent increases in new job creation, respectively. Banking, Auto, and Insurance sectors have primarily contributed to the hiring activity observed across the Non-metro cities. Real Estate and Oil &amp; Gas were the other sectors witnessing positive hiring sentiment in the Non-Metros, the report stated. Further, the report mentioned that the demand for senior professionals with more than 16 years of experience increased by 30 per cent compared to April 2022, while the demand for 13-16 years of experience increased by 20 per cent. However, the demand for fresh graduates and professionals with four-seven years of experience has declined compared to April 2022.
