He said stereotypes of Asian men and small-penis jokes in childhood led him to believe that a large penis was the key to a woman's pleasure.</p><p>His top concern was whether a woman enjoyed the penetrative sex they had, Play said.</p><p>In his book, Play says he now knows his 5.6-inch penis is average in size. Though he can't recall any women taking issue with his size during sex, he couldn't shake the thought in the back of his mind that he was lacking it.</p><p>"It wasn't an issue with my <a href="https://www.insider.com/average-penis-length-increased-more-than-inch-30-years-study-2023-2">penis being below-average length or girth</a>, but it's what I personally wanted. I wanted to be bigger," said Brett, a 45-year-old in Texas told Insider. Brett asked for his last name to be concealed to protect his privacy.</p><p>At the start of 2020, Brett took to Google to find a<strong style="color: #339966;"> </strong>solution and came across a facility in Tijuana, Mexico offering penis injections that promised to increase his girth. The procedure, which used acrylic-based polymethyl methacrylate injections, wasn't FDA-approved in United States, but Brett went for it anyway.</p><p>Even though he said he wouldn't normally dare to try a procedure that isn't FDA-approved, he said that the cleanliness of the facility, the kindness of the staff, and the recent boom in all types of fillers made him feel comfortable with his decision.</p><p>Once Brett healed, he said he had gained about a half-inch in width, but noticed his member was misshapen. Lumpy nodules formed where large chunks of filler had coagulated under the skin of his penis, Brett theorized after reading Reddit forums. The esthetician who later smoothed the lumps with more filler confirmed Brett's suspicions about his botched penis injections.</p><p>Desperate for a fix, Brett went back to Google and Reddit message boards and found a different type of injection known by the brand name PhalloFill, which involves hyaluronic acid injections and a proprietary post-procedure undergarment to prevent nodules from forming. He got the injection in 2022 and was happy with the results: Two inches of added girth and a lump-free member. </p><p>Despite the risks, hassle, and money (an estimated $6,200, not including travel to the PhalloFill clinic) Brett spent getting a thicker penis, he told Insider it was worth it for the final results. And his sentiment echoes that of an increasing number of men who are <a href="https://www.insider.com/penuma-implant-penis-enlargement-enhancement-surgery-james-elist-2023-3">paying tens or hundreds of thousands for a below-the-belt boost</a>, as Insider previously reported. </p><h2>Penis fillers can be an alternative to penile implants</h2><div type="image" title="penis enlargement" height="1412" width="1883" msid="102214748" hostid="261" sizebytes="368352"></div><p>Brett told Insider that he views <a href="https://www.insider.com/penuma-implant-penis-enlargement-enhancement-surgery-james-elist-2023-3">penile enhancement procedures</a> like injections and implants as the male version of a breast augmentation.</p><p>"It was not undersized when I started. But I think it's about preference. Just like with breast augmentations, some want double Ds, some want Bs, whatever flows their boat. This was just a thing that I really wanted to have done," Brett said.</p><p>He told Insider that he'd heard of the Penuma implant for penis enlargement, but after reading about patients' negative experiences online, Brett decided injections would be a safer bet. </p><p>Implants can be risky and potentially come with complications like permanent nerve damage as Insider previously reported. Certain fillers, on the other hand, come with fewer risks of complication, Dr. Fenwa Milhouse, a California-based urologist and PhalloFill provider, told Insider. Milhouse did not treat Brett as a patient.</p><p>Injections can come with momentary discomfort because providers don't numb the penis beforehand. But Brett said it was barely perceptible when he received six injections throughout the length of his member in a matter of minutes.</p><p>There are a few different types of injections, which come with varying risks, including:</p><ul><li><strong>Polymethyl methacrylate:</strong> The type Brett first got in Mexico, PMMA injections involve filling the penis with tiny acrylic beads that are supposed to <a href="https://www.pollockclinics.com/5-reasons-you-should-rethink-permanent-penis-enlargement/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">stimulate the production of collagen</a>, a skin-plumping agent the body naturally produces. But it's permanent, and comes with risks like <a href="https://www.researchgate.net/publication/305664356_Penile_Girth_Enhancement_With_Polymethylmethacrylate-Based_Soft_Tissue_Fillers" target="_blank" rel="noopener">increased risk of nodules</a>, tissue scarring, and infection.</li><li><strong>Fat-transfer:</strong> This method, which is also permanent, involves injecting fat from one part of the patient's body, <a href="https://affiliate.insider.com?h=855071d9a85932014f31b0f30d6d1281735372b3b0fb6eaec7463e6da2e9670a&amp;postID=64b980c496bcfdb796a3fb9c&amp;site=in&amp;u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.nature.com%2Farticles%2Fs41598-019-41652-w" target="_blank" rel="noopener">like the thighs</a>, into the penis. But it can lead to lumpy results and is advised against by the <a href="https://www.urologyhealth.org/urology-a-z/p/penile-augmentation" target="_blank" rel="noopener nofollow">Urology Care Foundation</a> and the <a href="https://www.urologyhealth.org/urology-a-z/p/penile-augmentation#:~:text=The%20American%20Urological%20Association%20(AUA,to%20be%20safe%20or%20effective." target="_blank" rel="noopener nofollow">American Urological Association,</a> Insider previously reported.</li><li><strong>Hyaluronic acid:</strong> Commonly used for facial injections to plump the skin, hyaluronic acid can be dissolved if it clumps under the skin, Milhouse said. It's what they use for PhalloFill injections. It's naturally occurring in the body, so it's main risks are bruising and swelling, she said. Patients typically need another round every year to two to maintain their size.</li><li><strong>Polylactic acid:</strong> This filler is also used for face injections. One study suggests this type of filler can potentially come with an <a href="https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7533910/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">increased risk of inflammation compared to hyaluronic acid-based filler</a>. Like with hyaluronic acid, patients need another round a year to two later to maintain their size.</li></ul><p>Doctors and estheticians across the country have created their own <a href="https://www.gq.com/story/how-dermal-fillers-became-the-biggest-thing-in-penis-enlargement">proprietary versions of these concoctions</a>, all for the express purpose of growing a man's girth, GQ previously reported.</p><h2>PhalloFill patients wear special underwear to recover</h2><p>William Moore, the creator of PhalloFill and an esthetician who started doing penis-related injections in 2010, said he designed the procedure to include a patented healing undergarment, setting PhalloFill apart from other penis filler options.</p><p>Some men who opted for penis fillers besides PhalloFill have also <a href="https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7230452/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported satisfying results</a> with hyaluronic acid fillers despite their procedures not requiring Moore's patented briefs, according to an April 2020 study in the Journal of Clinical Medicine.</p><p>But Moore says it's such an important part of the PhalloFill procedure that he requires trained providers sign non-disclosure agreements vowing not to show photographs or footage of it online, he told Insider.</p><p>Since the penis naturally expands and shrinks multiple times throughout the day, the garment holds the skin and tissue in place, preventing uneven filler distribution that can cause a lumpy appearance, Moore told Insider. He instructs providers like Dr. Milhouse, who he hand-picks and trains himself, to tell patients to use the garment exclusively for three weeks.</p><p>For Brett's healing process, he followed the special underwear protocol, saying he believes they made a huge difference in the appearance of his penis after the injections. But when they size themselves up against the adult film industry they may start having insecurities," <a href="https://www.jaminbrahmbhatt.com/">Dr. Jamin Brahmbhatt</a>, a urologist in Orlando, Florida, told Insider.</p><p>When a patient tells Brahmbatt penis size is a concern for them, he reminds them the <a href="https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/8709382/">average penis</a> is 3.5 inches long when flaccid and 5.1 inches when erect.</p><p>He also said a normally healthy person, whether they fall above or below the average, shouldn't experience lack of sexual satisfaction due to size alone. </p><h2>Myth: You can use supplements to lower your post-sex refractory period</h2><p>With a simple Google search, you'll find there's a huge market for pills that promise to lower your <a href="https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/refractory-period#reduction">refractory period</a>, or the time it takes after ejaculating to get an erection again.</p><p>But there's no scientific evidence to show these supplements, which lower levels of the hormone prolactin, work.</p><p>The pills are marketed under the supposition that high prolactin levels in men make their refractory periods longer, so reducing levels of prolactin can reduce that period when they're unable to get it up.</p><p>But recent <a href="https://phys.org/news/2021-01-men.html">research</a> on mice, who have similar sexual behaviors to humans, found prolactin isn't to blame to refractory periods.</p><p>Researchers from Champalimaud Centre for the Unknown in Portugal found no difference in mice who were given prolactin after sex and mice who weren't given any prolaction after sex.</p><p>"If prolactin was indeed necessary for the refectory period, males without prolactin should have regained sexual activity after ejaculation faster than controls," Susana Valente, one of the study authors, <a href="https://phys.org/news/2021-01-men.html">told Phys.org</a>. "But they did not."</p><p>Urologists have also warned against using supplements to reduce your refractory period.</p><p>"There is no hard science backing up the proposed claims. Plus, supplements are not FDA-regulated so what you think you are taking, may not be what you are taking," <a href="https://www.jaminbrahmbhatt.com/">Dr. Jamin Brahmbhatt</a>, a urologist at Orlando Health and assistant professor at UCF College of Medicine, told <a href="https://www.menshealth.com/sex-women/a19524569/refractory-period/">Men's Health</a>.</p><h2>Myth: 'Blue balls' can be deadly</h2><p>It's certainly scary to see your testicles turn blue and to feel pain and discomfort in your penis.</p><p>But those sensations, which are often indicative of the condition <a href="https://www.menshealth.com/sex-women/a19534594/science-blue-balls/">epididymal hypertension</a>, or "blue balls," aren't life-threatening or a risk for permanent damage.</p><p>Epididymal hypertension occurs when a person has "excess blood remaining in the testicles from a wave of erections not followed by ejaculation," according to Brahmbatt.</p><p>Normally, when a man gets aroused, blood flows to the penis and testicles, and causes an erection. If the man ejaculates, the blood returns to a normal level. But if he doesn't, blue balls can occur instead.</p><p>Brahmbatt said there's no "cure" for blue balls. </p><p>"Anecdotally, the quickest way to recovery appears to be ejaculation. Other ways discussed in forums include ice packs, avoiding erections, [and] exercise of some sort," he said.</p><p>In some cases, symptoms of a more serious problem could be confused with blue balls, so its important to see a doctor if it doesn't go away, Brahmbatt said.</p><h2>Myth: Men never fake orgasms</h2><p>When men reach climax, the tell-tale sign is ejaculation.</p><p>But Brahmbatt said that doesn't exempt men from faking orgasms.</p><p>"Men can fake the sights and sounds of an orgasm. The only problem is there may be not visible ejaculate. They could, at that time, just blame it on a medication or medical problem," Brahmbatt said.</p><h2>Myth: Men can't have more than one orgasm at a time</h2><p>Some women can have consecutive orgasms during sex without any downtime. But since the majority of men ejaculate during climax, they're less likely to experience more than one orgasm in a single sex session.</p><p>But that doesn't mean it's impossible, according to Kinsey Institute sex researcher Justin Lehmiller.</p><p>The reason men typically only have one orgasm is the refractory period, or time it takes after ejaculating for the penis to become erect again.</p><p>"The length of this period is highly variable across men, but could be just a few minutes in a younger guy compared to hours (or maybe even days) in older guys," Lehmiller <a href="https://www.lehmiller.com/blog/2014/3/10/can-men-have-multiple-orgasms-too">wrote on his website</a> where he shares his research findings.</p><p>But some men can orgasm without ejaculating, so for them, it's possible to have more than one orgasm in a row since the refractory period is taken out of the equation.</p><p>In fact, a <a href="https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/2818169/">1989 study</a> looked at 21 men who were able to have consecutive orgasms without a refractory period.</p><h2>Myth: Premature ejaculation is incurable</h2><p><a href="https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/premature-ejaculation/symptoms-causes/syc-20354900#:~:text=Premature%20ejaculation%20occurs%20when%20a,this%20problem%20at%20some%20time.">Premature ejaculation</a>, or ejaculating before you or your partner would like during sex, is a common problem among men.</p><p>As Insider previously reported, <a href="https://www.insider.com/how-to-cure-premature-ejaculation-cant-last-in-bed-2019-9">1 in 3 men have experienced premature ejaculation</a> at some point in their lives. But it can be fixed with the help of topicals, condoms, and medications.</p><p>According to Dr. Seth Cohen, a urologist at NYU Langone Health, penis sprays and condoms from <a href="https://www.promescent.com/faq">Promescent</a> and <a href="https://www.getroman.com/premature-ejaculation/">Roman</a> contain ingredients that temporarily desensitize the penis to prevent early onset ejaculation.</p><p>Cohen said SSRIs like Prozac, which are commonly used to treat depression, may be used off-label to delay ejaculation. His tweet that rankled critics appeared to reference North Korean leader Kim Jong Un's <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/kim-jong-un-touts-nuclear-button-on-his-desk-taunts-the-us-2017-12" target="_blank" rel="noopener">televised speech</a> on New Year's Day, in which Kim alluded to a "nuclear button" that he said was "always on my desk."</p><p>"North Korean Leader Kim Jong Un just stated that the 'Nuclear Button is on his desk at all times,'" Trump said on Twitter. "Will someone from his depleted and food starved regime please inform him that I too have a Nuclear Button, but it is a much bigger &amp; more powerful one than his, and my Button works!"</p><p>Critics immediately called Trump's words juvenile and others even called for his resignation:</p><p>"Why would you want to goad this unpredictable leader of North Korea to maybe demonstrate his capabilities," <a href="https://twitter.com/AC360/status/948363847127175168" target="_blank" rel="noopener">asked</a> Rep. Jim Himes of Connecticut during an interview on CNN. "We've gotten to a place, a very weird place, where it really doesn't matter what the President of the United States says anymore, because it is so bizarre, strange, not true, infantile."</p><p>President George W. <p>MEN have long wondered what exactly it is that women want. Some pore over men's magazines, with their promises of "washboard abs", for guidance. The more scientifically minded look for experimental data. The latest evidence comes from a group of researchers led by Brian Mautz, then of Australian National University. They gathered 105 heterosexual Australian women and showed them a series of digitally generated pictures of men in which three bodily characteristics were varied--height, shoulder-to-waist ratio and flaccid penis size. The women were asked to rate the men as sexual partners.</p>
<p>In an article just published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, Dr Mautz and his team describe their results. Happily for the insecure, although the women did indeed find a larger penis alluring, it was not the most important factor. That honour went to the combination of broad shoulders and a narrow waist, which accounted for around three-quarters of the variation in attractiveness all by itself. Height was also only a weak predictor of appeal. That is odd, says Dr Mautz, because other studies have linked height with all sorts of benefits, from higher salaries to longer lives. The bigger-is-better effect was also subject to diminishing returns: each extra centimetre, whether of height, shoulder width or penis size, was less significant than the previous one.</p>
<p>Nonetheless, even the tallest, broadest-shouldered and best-endowed digital hunks that the researchers generated fell short of perfection. "The optimum values appear to lie outside the tested range," they note, adding that the "maxima are more than two standard deviations from the population mean for each trait." That means that, for each trait, fewer than 2.5% of the men whom women encounter in the real world will be as generously proportioned as they might hope. Men with perfect scores in all three traits will be rarer than hen's teeth.</p>
<p>The study is not perfect. There was no danger of the women mistaking the digital men for the real thing. Other factors--such as social status, for instance--may, in the real world, override the physical preferences that the researchers were measuring. And it is hard, when all the subjects come from a single country, to disentangle the effects of nurture from those of nature. It is commonly pointed out, for instance, that men's apparent preference for slim women seems to be a relatively modern (and Western) construction. Erotica from the turn of the 19th century tend to feature much curvier women than their modern equivalent. Women's preferences may be just as influenced by the culture in which they grow up.</p>
<p>On the other hand, it is a rule of thumb in biology that females (of any species) are much pickier than males. There are good evolutionary reasons why that is so. Even in humans, who share the burden of child-rearing more equally than many animals, having children requires far more of an investment of resources from a female than it does from a male--after all, it is the woman who must endure nine months of pregnancy and then breast-feed the baby. Women therefore face stronger incentives to spend their relatively limited reproductive resources on only the most attractive men, whose children will be most likely to breed in turn. Back to the sit-ups, boys.</p>
