<ul><li>The E-Commerce Festive Season ‘22 report by <keyword id="3359665" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="redseer" source="Orion">Redseer</keyword> found that the online gross merchandise value (<keyword id="6399113" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="gmv" source="Orion">GMV</keyword>) grew 25% y-o-y during the festive month amounting to ₹76,000 crore. </li><li>About 64% of the transacting shoppers came from Tier 2+ cities. </li><li>Tier 2+ cities also contributed to more than half of the festive GMV. </li><li>E-grocery witnessed a 2x growth from last festive season. </li><li>Initially seeing a boost, mobile sales slowed down, while fashion, beauty and home appliances took the lead in sales. </li></ul>This festive season saw bumper sales online according to a Redseer report, which also said that about 64% of the transacting shoppers came from Tier 2+ cities. “Fashion leads category adoption in T2 cities, led by unbranded fashion, wherein one in every five orders had a kurti or saree in their cart. Within beauty, makeup was the most sought-after category with a lot of interest in looking and feeling good,” according to the E-Commerce Festive Season ‘22 report by Redseer Strategy Consultants. The report was measuring festival sales between September 22- October 23. It found that the online gross merchandise value (GMV) grew 25% y-o-y during the festive month amounting to ₹76,000 crore . And, Tier 2+ contributed to more than half of this GMV, at around 57%. “Democratisation of categories continued this year as well, with lower-order-value items growing faster than mobiles and electronics. While mobiles and electronics continue to dominate category share, home and kitchen, groceries and beauty personal care were the fastest growing categories. Grocery grew almost two times from the last festive season,” said <keyword id="210394" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="sanjay-kothari" source="Orion">Sanjay Kothari</keyword>, associate partner, Redseer Strategy Consultants. Gifting and product upgradation big purchase drivers As per the RedSeer report, sales went up both online and offline during the festival month. “Simultaneous growth of online and offline revalidates the domestic consumption story and indicates ample growth opportunities for both formats,” revealed Redseer. RedSeer also said that there was growing maturity in the online <keyword id="6354851" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="retail" source="Orion">retail</keyword> ecosystem. “Three in four sellers we surveyed reported at least 2X volume growth from BAU (business as usual) during sale days, with strong support from platforms in planning and executing the festive season well. This increase was more visible in lower ASP (average selling price) categories like fashion where 42% of the sellers reported a 3X to 5X growth from BAU,” said Kothari. While mobiles initially attracted flocks of customers – with over <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/business/ecommerce/news/flipkart-group-leads-e-commerce-festive-sales-meesho-is-second-largest-contributor-in-order-volume-redseer/articleshow/94701015.cms">56,000</a> selling per hour during the first week of the festive season sales – their overall growth slowed down. Fashion sales remained strong as ever - driven by the need to dress up for festivals. Long-tail categories or lower-order-value items grew much faster than mobiles and electronics. Within long-tail categories, grocery contributed to 34% of growth while home &amp; kitchen (21%) and beauty and personal care (14%) were the other frontrunners. E-grocery witnessed a 2x growth from last festive season, as per the report. In home furnishing and décor, cushion covers, showpiece and decor accents contributed most to the growth. “From our consumer surveys, gifting emerged as a strong reason for purchase across categories and consumers reported an increase in the overall satisfaction with online platforms,” the report said. An Indian fintech payment services startup, Billbox, is developing wearable payment accessories through a disruptive product TapTap, which will help in making payments faster than cards. “The newly launched product will be highly beneficial to a segment of the population who are looking for quick contactless payment methods that go beyond plastic money, QR codes and cards,” said Ashutosh Singh, president &amp; CBO, NSDL Payments Bank. The 16-year-old Mumbai-based startup Billbox has launched the product in association with NSDL Payments Bank and Visa. “TapTap is a program manager and fintech pioneer in prepaid and gift card programs. Our B2B and B2C solutions through partnerships with major brands, fashion designers, and enterprise customers will get us the cutting-edge technology of accessorising payments through wearable contactless payment products. It also allows quick turnaround to launch customised co-branded prepaid card programs,” <keyword id="15587812" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="viraj-majmudar" source="Orion">Viraj Majmudar</keyword>, managing director and CEO, TapTap said. It has been launched with silicon band, silicon strap and silicon loop and will be available in white, black and blue colours. The company also claims that the product is non-allergic, non-skin irritant and washable, as it is made out of silicon. The products under development that are aimed at men include rings, access cards, airpod covers, watch straps, watches, cuff links, ties, gloves, jackets and spectacles. Products for women would include rings, mobile covers, key fobs, bag tags, stickers, watches, watch straps, bracelets made out of silicon, leather, artificial jewellery, gold and silver jewellery. As per <keyword id="30067" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="rbi" source="Orion">RBI</keyword> norms in India, a user can tap for an amount up to ₹5000 without OTP (one time password) or PIN but any amount above that would require second-factor authentication of OTP. The user can transact up to ₹2,00,000 in a month with full Aadhar KYC. “Partnering with fintech like BillBox, we continue to provide Visa cardholders the convenience of tapping to pay for their everyday purchases, now through wearable devices,” said <keyword id="14024743" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="ramakrishnan-gopalan" source="Orion">Ramakrishnan Gopalan</keyword>, head – products, India and <keyword id="52011" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="south-asia" source="Orion">South Asia</keyword>, Visa. But there is a catch. TapTap wearable contactless payments is only available for Visa Platinum prepaid card users and will cost ₹1499 per wearable. It will be for use in metro cities of India. Furthermore, the company says that one doesn’t need a phone or scanner to use the product, and it requires no charging either. “This offering is in line with NSDL Payments Bank’s philosophy to offer innovative and secure digital financial solutions to Indian consumers in a cost-effective manner,” Singh added. Billbox also offers reloadable prepaid cards and the same can be loaded via instructions to the bank, the company said. Black Friday: The sales, scams and myths

<ul><li>You can invest in <keyword id="48211" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="US-stocks">US stocks</keyword> either through domestic brokers like Motilal Oswal, foreign brokers or through investment platforms like Groww, Upstox etc.</li><li>Very soon, NSE will offer investors to trade in 50 US stocks through GIFT city, an international financial services centre (IFSC).</li><li>Taxation on US stocks is simple as taxes are charged only on dividends and capital gains on the stock sale.</li></ul>Investment in US stocks like <keyword id="6354576" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="facebook">Facebook</keyword>, <keyword id="18635" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Amazon">Amazon</keyword>, <keyword id="6354427" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="apple">Apple</keyword>, Netflix and Google seems an attractive option for retail investors in today’s time. In fact, with the growing number of investment platforms, it has become even more convenient to have an exposure in US stocks. For those who don’t know, there are two ways to invest in US stocks — one option is directly through a domestic broker like Motilal Oswal, HDFC Securities or through a foreign broker. And now you can even invest through apps like Groww. Another way through which one can have exposure to US stocks without putting much effort on stock selection is through mutual funds and exchange traded funds (ETFs). An ETF is a basket of securities, shares of which are sold on an exchange. Very soon, there will be a third option, as this week the NSE announced that it will offer investors to trade in 50 US stocks through GIFT city, an international financial services centre (IFSC). Now the main question is what tax would be imposed on your profits? It is very simple. There are two types of tax implications — tax on dividends and capital gains tax. Tax on dividends Similar to Indian stock market, when you invest in the US stock market you might receive dividends from companies. This is income for an investor, which would be taxed at 25%. So if a company announced a dividend of $100, you will receive $75. The tax rate is comparatively lower for Indians compared to other foreign investors investing in the US as there is a tax treaty between the US and India. However, the dividend received in cash or reinvested again will be taxed in India at your applicable tax slab. However, due to the double tax avoidance agreement (DTAA), the tax withheld in the US can be set off against the tax liability in India. Offsetting means balancing the money that you are owed with money that you owe. For example: You have received a $100 dividend from US stocks in FY21, out of which 25% gets taxed by the US tax department on dividend. This means you have a total $75 income. Now, you have to pay tax on a $100 dividend in India and say you come under a 30% tax slab. Now your tax liability in India is for ₹7,400 assuming dollar rate is ₹74. And remember you have already paid 25% tax in the US which is ₹1,850. So now since you have already paid ₹1,850 as tax in the US you can claim that amount and just pay ₹370. Capital Gains Tax Firstly, capital gain is the profit one earns on stocks. Secondly, there is an additional benefit in investing in the US as they do not charge capital gains tax on Indians. For example: If you had bought shares of $100 and sold them at $400 then you will not be charged tax on capital gains of $300. However, here’s the twist, you will be liable to pay tax on this gain in India. Here there are two types of tax — Long term capital gain and short term capital gain. Long Term Capital Gains (LTCG) LTCG of 20% is charged when you hold the stock for more than 24 months plus applicable fees and surcharges. Jio’s e-commerce entity <keyword id="8506093" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Jiomart">JioMart</keyword> has taken the Offline to Online business model and its partnership with Facebook will only boost it. </li></ul>With the coronavirus lockdown in place, the local mom n pop stores or kirana dukans have become the go-to stores. These neighbourhood stores which had come under threat because of the rise of e-commerce, have turned into lockdown heroes. With e-commerce apps finding it difficult to deliver or managing huge volumes, many users have turned to local kirana stores. They don’t mind standing in the circles made outside a shop to practise social distancing as long as they can go home with the groceries they want. But it’s not just that. As the supply chain is affected by the district lockdown and fewer labour in place, e-commerce platforms are too banking on kiranas for efficient delivery of essentials. And this has resulted in a line-up of startups and big corporates all turning to the kirana waala dukaan with offers, new products and more. ‘Kirana stores have become India’s lifeline’ Amazon India launched ‘Local Shops on Amazon’. The program helps customers discover products from local shops in their city from the convenience of their homes, while helping shopkeepers supplement their footfalls with a digital presence and expand beyond their normal catchment, said the company. Amazon had piloted this program for 6 months with over 5000 local shops and retailers from 100+ cities across India. India is home to a vast number of B2B startups who have been working with mom n pop stores. MaxWholesale, a B2B e-commerce platform for kirana stores to source online inventory, raked in sales worth over ₹1 crore in a single day. “During such unprecedented times, kiranas have become the lifeline for the country. We have ensured that our on-ground staff and our suppliers get the best of our capabilities. The confidence that the suppliers and retailers have bestowed upon us has made us achieve this feat. We are committed to make kirana stores comfortable with technology by solving their core problem of dependable supply,” said Samarth Agrawal, Founder &amp; CEO, MaxWholesale. With kirana stores becoming the centrepoint for essentials, startups also figured out the need to start listing them online for faster delivery and efficiency. Phonepe introduced a new feature ‘stores’ with a list of kirana stores near you, and you can place your order and pay through the app for a contactless delivery. Meanwhile, startups like GoFrugal and LoveLocal started offering free applications to kirana shops to help them take their business online and serve more customers. Nearly 80,000 LoveLocal shops are serving over 10 million consumers across India with no touch delivery and no touch shop pickup. "These are difficult times. During the lockdown, when there is a need for essential goods, our neighbourhood kirana stores are the ones who have stepped up to help us. The big game – JioMart and its O2O model Big guns are gunning for kirana business too. Paytm Mall, which began operations in February 2017, went through a series of ups and downs. This was until in 2019 when it switched to an O2O model led business. Now, Paytm Mall drives its online traffic to offline stores through gift vouchers, offers and uses offline strength to push online traffic through digital payments only. And now the big player Reliance Retail too wants a piece of the pie. Jio’s e-commerce entity JioMart has also taken to the hybrid model. Facilitating this offline-to-online model, in December 2019, Reliance acquired 85% stake in the Hyderabad-based startup Nowfloats for ₹141.63 crore. Nowfloats offers SaaS-based solutions to SMEs, and enables their digital presence. In August 2019, Reliance acquired a majority stake in the Google-backed fashion e-commerce startup Fynd. In March 2019, Reliance acquired Mumbai-based logistics platform Grab A Grub. Reliance Jio’s latest deal with Facebook is another such move in the same direction. One of the significant factors of the deal is that Reliance Retail and WhatsApp are now in a commercial partnership to accelerate the Indian giant’s e-commerce venture – JioMart. Through JioMart and WhatsApp, the entities will now help support consumer businesses. “The companies will work closely to ensure that consumers are able to access the nearest kiranas who can provide products and services to their homes by transacting seamlessly with JioMart using WhatsApp,” Reliance said in a statement.
