Known for being the gaming avenue where you can play games and earn some money as well, PFG has been aggressively trying to build inroads into the esports arena. Paytm is going hard on gaming tournaments during the Coronavirus lockdown Although Paytm is commonly known for its online payments and digital wallet facilities, it’s been gaining traction on the gaming front as well. Its gaming arm entered the year with 45 million registered users and total time spent on the platform cumulatively adds up to <a href="https://blog.paytmfirstgames.com/year-in-review-paytm-first-gamestats-2019/">7,700 years. </a> Now, it has more than half a million daily active users (<a href="https://blog.paytmfirstgames.com/year-in-review-paytm-first-gamestats-2019/">DAUs</a>), who spend up to 45 minutes per session, according to the company. As most people are forced to stay home during the lockdown, Paytm First Games saw a sudden surge of 200% growth in March with over 75,000 new users joining the platform every day. “Esports is already growing really fast in India. With the circumstances like what we are going through now with COVID-19, it is adding more fuel to the fire,” said Gupta. In a first, PFG and Supercell announced a partnership to host a Clash Royale tournament in India — a joint venture between Alibaba Group’s AG Holdings and One97 Communications. This was the first time that Paytm dipped its toe in the esports arena. According to Gupta, the company only expected around 500 players to show up for the Clash Royale esports tournament. Instead, over 11,000 people signed up and the finals attracted an audience of over 70,000 viewers. Earlier this month, on April 14, the mobile game platform teamed up with another player — Singapore’s Esports Players League (ESPL) — to host competition. ESPL is creating an esports tournament and media network, starting with esports competitions in Asia, which will now include hosting games on Paytm First Games. This works out well because even though ESPL eventually wants to cover all platforms, it’s immediate impetus is on mobile. With shopping and payments dropping as more people stay home, pushing on gaming is one way that Paytm can make up for its losses. India is still in the early stages of the esports revolution, but it looks like Paytm has plans to be an important part of that growth story. And in the case where there are repeated policy violations, we may take more serious action which may include terminating Google Play Developer accounts. Big blow to Paytm ahead of IPL starting tomorrow Paytm First Games – which recently onboarded Sachin Tendulkar as its brand ambassador – is the Indian digital payments’ leaders foray into the fantasy gaming segment. Google’s ban is a huge blow to the app as the IPL begins tomorrow and Paytm First Games was hoping to cash in on the cricketing event. Paytm First Games had an elaborate plan to establish its stronghold in the fantasy gaming market. The app aims to get over 100 million users during the upcoming Indian Premier League and has planned over 200 live events on the platform over the next six months. The other popular fantasy sports app Dream11 has never been available on the Playstore. Last year in June, the Bombay High Court had dismissed a PIL filed by an advocate and said that Dream11 is a game of skill and not of chance. The PIL had claimed that the online fantasy league game encourages gambling. Earlier, the Punjab and Haryana High Court too had declared the Dream11 format of fantasy sports as legal. The order said that the game requires considerable skill and judgment. This order was further ratified by the Supreme Court. Paytm app removed from the Google Play Store – big blow to Paytm First Games ahead of the IPL starting tomorrow

<ul><li>On Friday, <keyword id="6357120" type="DEFINITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="paytm">Paytm</keyword> was banned from the Google Play Store for over seven hours. </li><li>While Google released a statement it doesn’t allow online casinos or support any unregulated gambling apps that facilitate sports betting, Paytm had another story to tell.</li><li>By the end of the day, Paytm was back on the app store, however questions regarding the short ban on Paytm continued. </li></ul>On Friday afternoon, Paytm’s <keyword id="198636" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Vijay-Shekhar-Sharma">Vijay Shekhar Sharma</keyword> and his thousands of employees were in for a rude shock – Paytm was banned from the Google Play Store, a day before the Indian Premier League is scheduled to start. By the end of the day, Paytm was back on the app store, however questions regarding the short ban on Paytm continued. Google released a statement it doesn’t allow online casinos or support any unregulated gambling apps that facilitate sports betting. “This includes if an app leads consumers to an external website that allows them to participate in paid tournaments to win real money or cash prizes, it is a violation of our policies,” said the company’s statement. However, Paytm had a different story to tell. Paytm said that its recently launched mode of gamification where after every transaction you get a scratch card with a cricket sticker (a player's image and name), was the reason for the ban. “If a user collects five stickers then you would get a cashback, it’s as simple as that. Out of the blue and for reasons best known to Google, they considered it gambling. Whereas, their own payment app runs a similar promotion where you get scratch cards and then get money from that. We are a bit surprised because of that,” a Paytm spokesperson told Business Insider. While Google in its statement said that when an app violates the policies, they notify the developer of the violation and remove the app from Google Play until the developer brings the app into compliance. “And in the case where there are repeated policy violations, we may take more serious action which may include terminating Google Play Developer accounts,” it said. However, Paytm said that it was only today that it was notified regarding the scratch card ‘violation’. Earlier in the beginning of September, there was a different violation regarding Paytm First Games. “Today you can go and advertise about a fantasy gaming app on any other app but Google says that you can’t promote your own sister app. This meant that Paytm can promote any other app but not our own fantasy gaming app. This is drawing on the lines of anti-competitiveness. Today’s violation was absolutely Google’s single-minded understanding of what the game is. They clubbed it both under the same ‘policies’ violation whereas they are two different things,” said the spokesperson. ‘Google’s policies have to adhere to the law of the land’ Interestingly, Paytm First Games continues to exist in the Apple App Store, where it was launched a month ago. Google and Apple have different approaches towards fantasy gaming. While Google takes strict action against any game that is related to betting online, Apple doesn’t seem to have any qualms about that. In fact, Google allows fantasy gaming apps on the Play Store in the US. “Apple is a bit more liberal in their policies and hence more supportive of app ecosystems specifically when it comes to real money gaming. While Google allows fantasy gaming apps to be listed on the playstore in the US, what we are trying to ask is why an inferior treatment for apps in India,” said the Paytm spokesperson. If a simple scratch card can be read as gambling and of the larger apps out there Paytm can be banned, I’m actually worried about what happens to the smaller apps,” said the spokesperson. The move by Google has been questioned by many in the Indian startup ecosystem with even Paytm suggesting that it was on the lines of ‘anti-competitiveness’. The digital payments startup even went on to compare its own cricket-driven cashback program to that of its competitor Google Pay’s ‘Tez Shots’ campaign which runs on similar lines. “Presumably, such cashback campaigns of Google Pay are not in breach of Play Store policies, or maybe they are, but a different set of rules apply to Google’s own apps,” said Paytm. Google hits back at Paytm ⁠— reiterates that ‘repeated policy violations’ will lead to stricter actions

Digital wallet company <keyword id="6357120" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="PayTM">Paytm</keyword> identified 48 fraudulent customers . Paytm was cheated to the tune of over Rs 6.15 lakh. The CBI has registered a case. 
 
This case raised doubts on security system on the digital wallet. In its complaint, Paytm elucidated 26 cases where a refund was claimed and processed after the delivery of goods was successfully made. 
 
“The technical analysis of the e-commerce service provider states that this cannot happen without involvement and knowledge of its employees,” the FIR said. 
 
"In the physical goods marketplace business, it was identified that certain fraudulent users were trying to unlawfully game the system. We have identified each of these cases and initiated legal proceedings," a Paytm spokesperson told Business Insider. 
 
Paytm said it regularly monitors its marketplace business to identify any fraudulent or suspicious behavior. "This is a part of the company’s security practices to ensure that genuine users are able to continuously avail the benefits brought by the Paytm marketplace," stated Paytm.

Rowe Price, SoftBank and others. Vijay Shekhar Sharma-led Paytm is now valued at $16 billion. “Today, we open next chapter in Paytm’s journey of India’s financial inclusion. We commit to invest additional ₹10,000 crore to serve financially unserved and underserved,” wrote Sharma in a tweet. Currently, serving merchants in over 2000 towns and cities spanning across 650 districts, Paytm aims to bring low cost mobile enabled financial services to rural India. In the financial year 2018-19, Paytm had clocked in a gross transaction value of $50 billion through 5.5 billion transactions. It also set a target of 12 billion transactions by FY20. The company said that the fast growth came due to the wide adoption of Paytm’s digital payments solutions across sectors like retail payments, fees, utility payments, travel booking, entertainment, games and more.

India’s payments unicorn Paytm had introduced digital gold investments to its users in April 2017. As of September 2018, Google Pay had announced that it has 25 million users in India. It seems that payments platforms in India are in for a big fight with Google Pay’s plans to push boundaries and offer digital gold, mutual fund services and more – features which Paytm has already been offering. But the rigorous push from Amazon Pay, with its offline ‘scan and pay’ service too is going to make a dent into the consumer numbers of its rivals. Google Pay wants to offer Indians their favourite investment option – gold

In a block deal, 3.4 per cent equity (or 2.1 crore shares) of <keyword id="6357120" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="paytm" source="Orion">Paytm</keyword>'s parent company One97 <keyword id="4584578" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="communications-ltd" source="Orion">Communications Ltd</keyword> (OCL) changed hands on Friday. Sources in the know of the development say that Chinese multinational Alibaba has sold its entire stake in Paytm in today's block deal. With this sale, Alibaba is no longer a stakeholder in Paytm. The company had sold around 3.1 per cent of 6.26 per cent equity in Paytm in January. This latest deal almost completes Alibaba's exit from <keyword id="3658" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="india" source="Orion">India</keyword> since it had earlier sold its stakes in <keyword id="830092" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="zomato" source="Orion">Zomato</keyword> and <keyword id="964794" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="bigbasket" source="Orion">BigBasket</keyword>. The news will bring cheer to the market as it ends the Chinese stakeholding in the homegrown Paytm. Paytm's shares have been rallying in the last few days since it announced operating profitability in its Q3FY23 results with EBITDA before ESOP cost at Rs 31 crore, significantly ahead of its guidance of September 2023. The fintech giant revenue from operations increased to Rs 2,062 crore (no <keyword id="6358921" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="upi" source="Orion">UPI</keyword> incentive recorded this quarter), a growth of 42 per cent on a yearly basis. This was followed by Paytm's robust operating update of January 2023 that it filed with the stock exchange on February 8. The company has continued to witness sustained growth momentum in its key payments and lending business. Paytm strengthened its leadership in offline payments with the deployment of 6.1 million devices while its average MTU at 89 million registered a 29 per cent growth for the month of January 2023.
