At the top, the UPI clocked over 19.65 billion transactions in volume and Rs 32.5 lakh crore in terms of value. The UPI transactions volume and value almost doubled since last year as it recorded about an 88 per cent increase in volume and over 71 per cent increase in value in Q3 as compared to the same quarter last year, according to <keyword id="1925688" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="worldline-india" source="Orion">Worldline India</keyword>'s 'Digital Payments Report' for the third quarter. The top three UPI apps in terms of volume and value were PhonePe, Google Pay and Paytm Payments Bank App. The top five remitter Banks were <keyword id="6354731" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="state-bank-of-india" source="Orion">State Bank of India</keyword>, <keyword id="6357149" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="hdfc-bank" source="Orion">HDFC Bank</keyword>, Bank of Baroda, Union Bank, and ICICI Bank, whereas the top 5 beneficiary banks were Paytm Payments Bank, YES Bank, State Bank of <keyword id="3658" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="india" source="Orion">India</keyword>, Axis Bank, and ICICI Bank. UPI person-to-merchant (P2M) and person-to-person (P2P) emerged as the most chosen payment method among consumers, accounting for 42 per cent of total transaction volume. This was followed by credit and debit card payments, which accounted for 7 per cent of volume and 14 per cent of value. "The swift adoption of digital payments can be witnessed with each passing quarter. Popular payment instruments like UPI, cards, PPIs are already clocking over 23 billion transactions in a quarter," said Ramesh Narasimhan, CEO, India, Worldline. Q3 data indicates healthy usage of credit cards and growth in the average ticket size. For credit cards, it is Rs 4,833; for debit cards, it is Rs 2,073; for UPI P2M, it is Rs 738; for UPI, P2P it is 2,576; for prepaid cards, it is 473; and for M-wallet, it is Rs 382. The total transaction between credit cards and debit cards comes to around 65 per cent and the remaining 35 per cent has been shared between UPI P2P, UPI P2M, and prepaid cards, the report showed. As of September 2022, the overall number of POS terminals installed by merchant-acquiring banks had surpassed 7 million. In Q3 2022, POS deployment increased by more than 41 per cent reaching 7.03 million, when compared to the same quarter of the previous year. In the online space, e-commerce (shopping for goods and services), gaming, utility and financial services contributed to over 86 per cent of the transaction in terms of volume and 47 per cent in terms of value. By the end of the third quarter, there were 1.01 billion credit and debit cards in circulation. Credit card volume and value were 725 million and Rs 3.5 lakh crore in Q3 2022, respectively. In the third quarter of 2022, the volume and value of debit card transactions were 907 million and Rs 1.88 lakh crore, respectively, the report said. At least 58.78 million FASTags have been issued till September, with 36 banks. Digital payments in India touch Rs 38.3 lakh cr at over 23 bn transactions

New Delhi, Jan 3 () CSC e-Governance Services India on Friday said it has signed a memorandum of understanding with Paytm Payments Bank Ltd (PPBL) for sale of FASTags.
The agreement will facilitate sale of PPBL FASTags through the last mile network of 3.6 lakh CSCs, helping realise the government's vision of cashless and smooth transit at all toll plazas across country, a statement said.
"As per the MoU, CSC and Paytm Payments Bank will jointly aim to sell FASTags. For this, CSC will integrate its platform with Paytm Payments Bank to carry out seamless transactions," it added.
The Village Level Entrepreneurs will be trained on conducting paperless and cashless sales, the statement said.
FASTags -- which work on Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology -- have been made mandatory at toll gates on national highways. The FASTag process allows toll payments directly from the prepaid or savings account linked to it, thus doing away with the need for waiting in queues, saving time and fuel.
As of December 31, over 1.15 crore FASTags have been issued.
CSCs started selling FASTags in September 2017 when it partnered with Equitas Bank. Later on, State Bank of India and HDFC Bank came onboard.
Since March 2019, CSC has tied up with National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) also for selling FASTags. Around 2.84 lakh FASTags have been sold by CSCs across the country so far, with Maharashtra, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Haryana and Gujarat topping the list of states with maximum sales. 
"CSCs have been providing FASTag service for the past two years. With FASTags becoming mandatory, we have received more than 8 lakh orders from VLEs. The transition towards digitization of toll tax payments through digital payment is a significant step towards modernisation," CSC SPV CEO Dinesh Tyagi said.
In addition, CSCs are also serving the vehicle owners and transporters through FASTag 'top-up' through wallet recharge. So far, more than Rs 74 crore worth top-up for FASTags has been done by VLEs across the country. SR BAL

CSC inks pact with Paytm Payments Bank for sale of FASTags

New Delhi, Dec 9 () Paytm Payments Bank (PPB) on Monday said it issued 6 lakh FASTags in the month of November.
 The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways had announced that toll payments on highways would be accepted through FASTags only from December 1. This was later extended to December 15.
 In a statement, PPB said it sold 6 lakh tags in the month of November, and claimed that it has equipped over 1.85 million vehicles with FASTags.
 The National Electronic Toll Collection (NETC) programme, the flagship initiative of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, has been implemented on a pan-India basis in order to remove bottlenecks and ensure seamless movement of traffic and collection of user fee as per the notified rates, using passive radio frequency identification (RFID) technology. 
 As on December 3, 2019, a total of 82.55 lakh FASTags have been issued. 
 PPB said it has also partnered with automobile manufacturers such as Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai Motor India, Honda Cars India, Kia Motors India Pvt Ltd, MG Motor India and others to offer pre-fitted Paytm FASTags at the time of vehicle purchase itself.
 "While over 250 camps have been set up at toll plazas, another 500 have been arranged in corporate offices, residential societies and parking lots in the top 20 cities, including Delhi-NCR, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chandigarh, Pune, Chennai and Jaipur," it added.
 PPB is further boosting the sale of FASTags by deploying 3,500 business correspondents in all major cities and towns, it said. SR RVK

The average ticket size (ATS) for UPI P2P transactions was ₹2,425 and for UPI P2M transactions it was ₹820 as of June 2022, the report said. The transaction volume passing through Bharat Bill Payment Central Unit (BBPCU) during the quarter stood at 238.31 million while the transaction value was ₹403.02 billion. It registered a growth rate of 99% and 108% in volume and value respectively as compared with Q2 2021. The total number of credit and debit cards in circulation reach 1 billion Alongside UPI, adoption of credit cards is growing at a healthy pace, revealed Worldline. The total number of credit and debit cards in circulation has reached 1 billion in Q2 2022 especially with festivities around the corner. “While the number of credit cards increased by 25% from ₹62.81 million in June 2021 to 78.7 million in June 2022, debit cards increased by 2% from ₹906 million to ₹921.75 million during the same period,” Worldline said. As of June 2022, the top credit-card issuing banks were HDFC Bank, SBI, ICICI Bank, Axis Bank and RBL Bank while the top debit-card issuing banks were SBI, BOB, Union Bank, <keyword id="62034" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="punjab-national-bank" source="Orion">Punjab National Bank</keyword> and Canara Bank. Credit cards volume and value stood at 688.65 million and ₹3.28 trillion respectively. “Even though credit card volume at POS and e-commerce are nearly equal, the value of e-commerce transactions is higher as compared with the value of transactions at POS. This is in line with the general trend of transactions of high-ticket items moving from the physical to the digital space,” Worldline said. In terms of value, consumers transacted ₹1,226.29 billion at POS terminals and ₹2,053.66 billion at e-commerce through credit cards in the second quarter. In Q2 2022, debit card transactions volume and value stood at 973.12 million and ₹1.91 trillion respectively. Prepaid cards transaction volume and value was 412.29 million and ₹206.36 billion respectively. When it comes to mobile payments, the number of transactions through mobile wallets was 1.52 billion and the value was ₹574.64 billion. Transactions through wallets are growing steadily recording a 38% increase in volume and 27% in value when compared to Q2 2021, revealed Worldline data. National Electronic Toll Collection (NETC) processed about 829 million transactions worth ₹129 billion. As of March 2022, about 52.9 million NETC FASTags have been issued since the inception of the NETC program. Aadhaar-Enabled Payment Service transactions recorded a substantial volume of over 679 million transactions, registering about 38% growth over Q2 2021. The Government of India has mandated all the vehicles running on the Indian roads to get <keyword id="3005928" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="FASTag">FASTag</keyword> by December 1, 2019. FASTag is developed by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) as part of the National Electronic Toll Collection (NETC) program. Failing to maintain enough balance, the corresponding FASTag will be blacklisted at the toll plaza and the customer will not be able to avail of the NETC services. What is the price of FASTag? The FASTag issuance charges may differ between the issuing agencies. However, the one-time joining fee is Rs 200. Where to put the FASTag on my vehicle? Once the tag account is active, you must fix the FASTag sticker to the windscreen of your vehicle. What is the penalty for not using FASTag? The National Highways Authority has directed the zonal offices to levy double toll fee as the penalty for vehicles not having FASTag. This will mean 100% penalty for not having FASTag. The rule reads thus, “User of the vehicle not fitted with FASTag entering the FASTag lane of the toll plazas shall pay a fee equivalent to two times of the fee applicable to the category of vehicle as per sub-rule (2) of rule 4.” Can FASTag be transferred to another vehicle? FASTag is vehicle specific and completely linked to the particular vehicle for which it is originally bought. It cannot be transferred to any other vehicle. How will I get to know the transactions through FASTag? When your vehicle passes through the toll plaza and your FASTag account is debited, you will get SMS alert on the registered mobile number. Do two wheelers need FASTag? Two-wheelers and three-wheelers do not need FASTag. It is essential only for four wheelers that need to pay the toll fee.

A note posted by NPCI on its website observes, "FASTag offers the convenience of cashless payment along with benefits like - savings on fuel and time as the customer does not have to stop at the toll plaza." Talking about FASTag, Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways said that FASTag is being viewed as the 'Aadhaar' for all vehicles operating in the nation. He also added that the existing infrastructure can support more than six million tags which will be able to carry out about 10 lakh transactions per day. Why the government wants to move to FASTag system? FASTag is yet another move towards increasing the volume of digital transactions and reducing the handling of paper money. FASTag will rule out the need for long queues and wastage of time while the vehicles need not have to wait for making cash transactions at the toll plazas. Shortening the queues and waiting time will also mean lessening the air pollution. FASTag is also a way of easy vehicle identification system the system will give a unique identification number to every vehicle for its lifetime. What the government is doing about FASTag? For testing purposes, FASTag system was launched in 2014 and it has been steadily expanding since then to cover more vehicles. However, the government has recently notified that from December 1, 2019, all the National Highways in India will collect toll payments through FASTag technology only. FASTag is based on Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) Technology. The toll collection booths across the country are now fast equipping themselves with electronic toll collection infrastructure (ETC) for supporting the vehicles equipped with FASTag. The government has also partnered with 23 banks in the country to issue FASTag to the vehicles running on Indian roads including State Bank of India (SBI), ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, and Axis Bank. NHAI has also partnered with Amazon and PayTM to distribute the FASTags quickly to as many vehicles as possible. How does the FASTag system work? Based on the Radio Frequency Identification Technology (RFID), the system will facilitate the toll plazas collect the toll payment through digital means while the vehicle is in motion through the dedicated lanes that are specially equipped with the necessary supporting infrastructure. The toll charges will be debited directly from the prepaid or savings account of the vehicle owner. The vehicles need to affix the FASTag RFID tag onto their windscreen. The toll payments will be automatically initiated when the vehicle passes through the NETC supported toll plaza. The government has also provided the option of integrating the existing savings or current bank account with FASTag for the purpose of facilitating seamless payments on toll plazas.

The tag has RFID technology that will allow the cashless toll fee using <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Paytm+wallet.&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Paytm wallet.</a> 
 “Cash slows down traffic at important toll plazas as attendants and motorists are left grappling with the hassles of dealing in loose change. The roll-out of <keyword id="6357120" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="PayTM">Paytm</keyword>-enabled FASTag will come as a relief to both commuters and toll plaza attendants and help towards the national cause of saving fuel,” Kiran Vasireddy, Sr. Vice President, Paytm said.

New Delhi, Feb 17 () Digital payments firm Paytm on Monday said it has extended its partnership with Uber that will enable passengers to pay for their ride through credit or debit card using its platform. Earlier, passengers were able to pay for their rides through Paytm wallet and other modes like cash and cards separately. "Uber and Paytm have been long-standing partners. We are extending this partnership to a full-stack payment gateway. This integration will benefit millions of Uber riders to make seamless instant payments from their cards which might be already saved on Paytm," Puneet Jain, senior vice president at Paytm Payments Gateway said in a statement. Under the extended partnership, Paytm will also provide a range of services to Uber's driver partners under the Uber Care program such as savings accounts, zero-fee debit cards and significant cashback at Indian Oil, Paytm FASTags among others. "With the latest credit and debit card integration with Paytm, we hope to promote more digital transactions, reduce cash dependency on the platform and improve the country's digital financial infrastructure," Nandini Maheshwari, Director, Business Development, Uber India &amp; South Asia said.
