Addressing a mini apps developer conference, Paytm Founder <keyword id="198636" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Vijay-Shekhar-Sharma">Vijay Shekhar Sharma</keyword> said that he is targeting "at least one million mini apps" to put an end to "the victimisation of 30 per cent charges Google is putting on all of us." Google faced criticism from developers after it announced its policy asking them to integrate with the Play Store billing system. However, Google on Monday said it has extended the time for developers in India who use alternative payment system, to integrate with the Play Store billing system till March 31, 2022. As the announcement came, Paytm which is involved in a stand-off with Google after its own app was removed from its Play Store recently, launched an Android <keyword id="10050959" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="mini-app-store">Mini App Store</keyword> to support local developers take their innovative products to the masses. Mini apps are a custom-built mobile website that gives users app-like experience without having to download them.

<keyword id="5565" type="COUNTRY" weightage="20" keywordseo="South-Korea">South Korea</keyword> has launched an antitrust investigation into <keyword id="6355629" type="DEFINITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="google">Google</keyword> over its plans to enforce commission fees for in-app purchases made through its mobile application store. The US tech giant has come under intense scrutiny from South Korean regulators along with Indian app developers and entrepreneurs after it updated its global policy late last month to make all apps on its Play store use its proprietary billing system. Under the new policy set to take effect in October next year, Google will take a 30 percent commission on all digital purchases by consumers. South Korean app developers have voiced strong opposition against the move, arguing that it could be in violation of local fair trade and telecommunications laws, reports Yonhap news agency. Joh Sung-wook, chairperson of the Korea Fair Trade Commission (KFTC), told lawmakers during a parliamentary audit that Google's plan is currently being reviewed. "I believe that competition isn't working properly in this industry," she said. "In order to restore competition, we are currently investigating for anti-competitive actions." Google holds a tight grip over local app store sales, with a 63.4 percent share of the total last year at $5 billion, according to the Korea Mobile Internet Business Association. Han Sang-hyuk, head of the Korea Communications Commission, echoed Joh's concerns, and called for inter-agency cooperation over the issue. "We need to monitor the response from other countries and also create a structure for cooperation between local agencies," Han told lawmakers in a separate audit. The country's telecommunications regulator is conducting a separate investigation into Google over its in-app payment policy. Google has argued that it is committed to an open system by offering other app stores on its Android platform and that it will comply with local laws. In response to growing frustration, Google has established a support fund worth $100 million for local app developers and users. Amid growing scrutiny over Google's app store fees, local rival One Store, under the country's top mobile carrier SK Telecom Co., said it would exempt in-app payment fees by 50 percent for app developers with monthly transactions of less than 5 million won until the end of next year. South Korea launches anti-trust probe against Google over Play Store violations

<ul><li>Google is now letting users make <keyword id="3679109" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="UPI-payments">UPI payments</keyword> on the Google Play Store.</li><li>The tech giant promised that it would be bringing UPI payments to the Play Store at the Google I/O 2019 conference earlier this year.</li><li>Till now, UPI was only available on <keyword id="2750705" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Google-Pay">Google Pay</keyword> — formerly known as <keyword id="4999250" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="google-tez">Google Tez</keyword> in India.</li></ul>Google promised that they would bring the unified payments interface (UPI) to the Google Play Store at the developers conference earlier this year and it looks like they’re delivering on that promise. UPI allows users to directly transfer money from one bank account to another via third party apps like Google Pay, Paytm, Phone Pe and the Indian government-owned BHIM to name a few. Google Pay — formerly dubbed Google Tez in India — is the tech giant’s digital wallet in the country but, so far, was not available as a payment option in the Play store. The app hit <a href="https://entrackr.com/2019/03/google-pay-upi-transaction-mau/">45 million users</a> in India and a transaction run rate of $81 billion in March 2019, according to the company. WhatsApp to mint revenue with global launch of Meta Cloud for businesses

In a significant victory, India got elected as Member of the <keyword id="233455" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="UN-Commission">UN Commission</keyword> on the Status of Women, the principal global body focussed on gender equality and women empowerment, beating China in a hotly-contested election. The Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) is a functional commission of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). The 54-member ECOSOC, holding the first plenary meeting of its 2021 session in the General Assembly Hall on Monday, held elections for two seats in the Asia-Pacific States category with Afghanistan, India and China in the fray. Afghanistan, which is led by Ambassador Adela Raz at the UN, garnered 39 votes and India got 38 votes of the 54 ballots cast. China, a permanent member of the UN Security Council, got only 27 votes and could not even cross the half-way mark and also failed to get the required majority of 28 votes. It is highly notable and telling that China lost the election to the UN's principal global intergovernmental body exclusively dedicated to the promotion of gender equality and women empowerment when the silver jubilee anniversary of the landmark Beijing conference on women is being commemorated and of which China takes a lot of ownership on. The election result is being seen as sending a strong signal about China's own record of women's equality and empowerment. India's Permanent Mission to the UN worked tirelessly for the hard-fought election, reaching out and sensitising all Member States, sources said. India and Afghanistan will join Argentina, Austria, Dominican Republic, Israel, Latvia, Nigeria, Turkey and Zambia, which were elected by acclamation, to the Commission on the Status of Women for a four-year term beginning from 2021-2025. India's election win at the CSW is highly significant as it comes on the eve of India gearing up to sit at the UN Security Council high table as non-permanent member for a two-year term beginning January 1, 2021. Former UN Assistant Secretary-General and Deputy Executive Director of UN Women Lakshmi Puri congratulated the Indian Mission and Ambassador Tirumurti on the election win. India beats China to win crucial election to UN commission on women

India on Friday successfully placed three satellites into orbit on a rocket completely developed by a four-year-old startup, marking the entry of the private sector into space activities, currently dominated by the state-run behemoth ISRO. <keyword id="7537495" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="skyroot-aerospace" source="Orion">Skyroot Aerospace</keyword>-designed Vikram-S, named in a befitting tribute to the father of the country's space programme <keyword id="29151" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="vikram-sarabhai" source="Orion">Vikram Sarabhai</keyword>, tasted success in its maiden mission. Skyroot Aerospace become the first privately held company in India after the space sector was opened for private players by the Centre in 2020. "I am happy to announce the successful completion of Mission Prarambh, The Beginning, by Skyroot aerospace," a smiling Pawan Goenka, Chairman of the country's space regulator, Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre (INSPACe), said from ISRO's Mission Control Center here. The rocket achieved an altitude of 89.5 km and a range of 121.2 km, "exactly what was planned by Skyroot Aerospace," he said. The rocket "worked as planned" and Skyroot Aerospace has demonstrated various capabilities of sub-systems that will go into the orbital launch vehicle, he added. The rocket integrated into the launcher soared after lifting off at the prefixed 11.30 am from the sounding rocket complex at the Indian Space Research Organisation's Satish Dhawan Space Centre, here, about 115 km from Chennai. The Mission unveiled by ISRO Chairman S Somanath has three payloads with two belonging to domestic customers and one from a foreign client. The 6-metre tall launch vehicle is one of the world's first few all-composite rockets that has 3-D printed solid thrusters for spin stability of the launch vehicle. "This is a new beginning for the Indian private sector entering aerospace and a historic moment for all of us," Goenka said. The three payloads riding piggyback on the rocket are from Chennai-based start-up SpaceKidz, Andhra Pradesh-based N-SpaceTech and Armenian BazoomQ Space Research Lab. Vikram-S launched the payloads in about 500 km low inclination orbit. In a departure from the routine, Friday's mission was launched from the complex where sounding rockets were used by ISRO. Friday's mission is considered to be a significant milestone for Skyroot Aerospace as it would help test and validate the majority of the technologies in the <keyword id="1091" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="vikram" source="Orion">Vikram</keyword> series of orbital class space launch vehicles, including many sub-systems and technologies that would be tested before lift-off and post-lift off phases of the launch. 'Fun-Sat', a 2.5 kgs payload belonging to Chennai-based aerospace startup Spacekidz, has been developed by students from India, the United States, Singapore and Indonesia. The 545 kg Vikram launch vehicle consists of the Vikram II and Vikram III series. The technology architecture of the launch vehicle offers unique capabilities like multi-orbit insertion and interplanetary missions while providing customised, dedicated and ride-share options covering a wide spectrum of small satellite customer needs, Skyroot Aerospace said. The company added the rockets can be assembled and launched within 24 hours from any launch site.
