A 60-year-old woman, who was declared brain dead after suffering an intracranial hemorrhage, gave new lease of life to at least four persons after her family members agreed to organ donation at Gurugram's <keyword id="167599" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="paras-hospital" source="Orion">Paras Hospital</keyword>, an official said on Tuesday. The woman was admitted to the hospital on July 7 and the doctors declared her brain dead on July 10. The same day her family members gave nod for organ donation, hoping she would still live through her organs. Once the family officially consented to donate her organs - both her kidneys and eyes were allotted by the <keyword id="2831643" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="national-organ-and-tissue-transplant-organisation" source="Orion">National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation</keyword> (NOTTO). One of her kidneys was given to a 42-year-old male patient at the same hospital, while the other one was donated to a 17-year-old female patient at <keyword id="1981226" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="asian-hospital" source="Orion">Asian Hospital</keyword> in Faridabad. The eyes were donated to two persons at private hospitals in <keyword id="66" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="delhi" source="Orion">Delhi</keyword>. P.N. Thousands of people die due to non-availability of organs, irrespective of age, gender, cast or religion. Anybody can be an organ donor." Brain-dead woman's organs save four lives

The Delhi government has directed the <keyword id="6365858" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="hospitals">hospitals</keyword> to allow doctors, nurses and para-medical staff to work for 14 days continuously, followed by a two-week break. In an order, the <keyword id="1108395" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Delhi-health-department">Delhi Health Department</keyword> said the staff will be working in two shifts. "It is decided to run the COVID-19 designated hospitals and medical teams at quarantine facilities in two shifts of 10 hours (8 a.m. to 6 p.m.) and 14 hours (6 p.m. to 8 a.m.)," the order approved by the Health Minister said. It said the staff should be given 14 days' break before the same amount of working days. "Doctors, nurses and para medical staff would work for 14 days continuously followed by 14 days break. Doctors, nurses and para medical staff will be provided accommodation during this entire period by the Hospitals," the order said. --IANS nks/pgh/

Lalu Prasad on Sunday evening fell from the stairs at his home and suffered a fracture in his right shoulder. The family doctors had applied a temporary plaster on his shoulder. Sources said that he complained of uneasiness and breathing problems around 4 a.m. <keyword id="6354578" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="tejashwi-yadav" source="Orion">Tejashwi Yadav</keyword>, the younger son of Lalu Prasad immediately took him to the nearby Paras hospital and admitted him. Lalu Prasad is convicted in the fodder scam and is currently on bail after completing more than half of the prison sentence. The RJD leader is suffering from several health diseases, including kidney infection, water accumulation in lung and blood pressure. The 75-year-old veteran socialist leader wants to go to Singapore to consult doctors for his kidney transplant. Recently, the court released his passport as well. Lalu Prasad hospitalized again after a fall from the stairs

<keyword id="150205" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="amartya" source="Orion">Amartya</keyword> Chakraborty, a 19-year-old three-time former national para-swimming champion, passed away at the GB Pant Hospital here on Wednesday due to "sudden cardio-respiratory arrest". Amartya, who hailed from <keyword id="314667" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="salkia" source="Orion">Salkia</keyword> in Howrah district in West Bengal, was undergoing treatment at the hospital for a spinal cord disorder, which had left his lower body almost paralysed. The champion swimmer, who won around 30 medals at the national level, made his mark in the sub-junior and junior levels between 2015 and 2017 after he was classified under temporary disability category. But he was not allowed to compete in the Asian Youth Para Games in Dubai in December 2017 following a protest over his disability. He was disqualified soon after and declared "ineligible" by the <keyword id="381222" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="international-paralympic-committee" source="Orion">International Paralympic Committee</keyword> (IPC). A report in saachibaat.com had said days before the champion swimmer's death that Amartya's condition was serious and his father wasn't able to afford his treatment in a private hospital. The report said that, Amartya's spinal cord had become "completely unbalanced" and the lower part of the body had stopped working. "In medical terms, this is called arteriovenous malformation (AVM). As a result, he is lying on the bed," the report had said. His father, Amitosh, had been quoted as saying that the treatment of his son was only possible at AIIMS (Delhi) or in hospitals in England and the US, and it would cost around Rs 50 lakh to treat him abroad. By Kushan Sarkar New Delhi, May 18 () Dope Control Officers, who are front-line medical workers in the battle against the COVID-19 pandemic, will not be sent for sample collection when training of athletes resumes following lockdown relaxation, National Anti-Doping Agency's Director General Navin Agarwal told on Monday. NADA is gearing up for vigorous resumption of sample collection and testing after the home ministry allowed sports complexes and stadia to open but without spectators. Agarwal said elaborate guidelines have been prepared and the body is now waiting for sports ministry's green light to start sample collection. "We are requesting sports ministry to give us the list of centres where sporting activities are resuming. I understand that there are states where activities are resuming particularly with regards to non-contact sports," Agarwal told during an interaction. "Yes, NADA won't be using any of their DCOs who have been frontline workers in recent times as they might have been working in hospitals and require to self-quarantine themselves," he added. Most of the NADA DCOs are medical and para-medical staff working at government hospitals. Also, for the time being, only urine samples will be collected to test athletes who are in the Registered Testing Pool (RTP) and have qualified for next year's Tokyo Olympics. The athletes in the RTP are elite competitors who are required to share their whereabouts with the anti-doping agency. "As of now, no blood samples will be collected because transportation will be difficult in the current scenario. Blood samples require to be transported fast or else they get hemolyzed," the DG informed.Hemolysis is the rupturing of red blood cells. On Monday, Agarwal and top NADA officials had a video conference with DCOs across the country to discuss modalities. "There is a whole set of guidelines as to which DCO can be permitted and which DCO can't be permitted to go for sample collection. Because many of our DCOs are already in the health sector as frontline workers -- doctors and para medics," he explained. Agarwal confirmed that no frontline workers will be used as DCOs for now. "Obviously, the symptomatic people will also not go. Also those working at COVID centers won't be testing athletes. Depending on their exposure, these things will be taken into account," he said. Agarwal also said "man power is not a problem" since competitions are not taking place, which means that there won't be too many tests. "Right now, we are looking at probably sending people to Bengaluru or Patiala," he said. Also apart from camps, focus will be on testing athletes in the RTP. "(We will test) those who have already qualified or those who are Olympic probable provided we get approval from sports ministry," he said. All the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will be provided by NADA and the kind of kit used may vary depending on zones. "Our set of guidelines will specify where they (DCOs) need to wear only masks and gloves and where all they have to wear PPE suit or face shield. "The protective equipment could be different for different zones. The standard distance from athletes will be two yards," he revealed. KHS PMPM

Desai, 50, suffered severe <keyword id="141908" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="brain-haemorrhage" source="Orion">brain haemorrhage</keyword> after falling on a hard surface while going for a walk outside his residence on the evening of October 15, the official said. "Desai fell and suffered a brain haemorrhage, and fainted. He was immediately shifted to a private hospital, and from there to another hospital where he underwent brain surgery. He was kept under observation, and breathed his last at around 7 pm on Sunday," said the company official who is close to the Desai family. Another official said Desai fell while trying to escape from stray dogs when out on an evening walk. Desai was one of the two executive directors on the board of the Ahmedabad-based tea group, the other being <keyword id="1904588" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="paras-desai" source="Orion">Paras Desai</keyword>. Parag Desai was the son of Managing Director Rasesh Desai. He had done his MBA from Long Island University in the USA. He spearheaded sales, marketing and export departments for the group and was an expert tea tester and evaluator.
