New Delhi, Apr 7 () Auto maker Ford India on Tuesday said it is manufacturing face shields at its manufacturing plants which would be distributed among doctors, paramedics and emergency staff. The maker of models like Endeavour and EcoSport said it has come up with a team at its manufacturing plants at Sanand and Chennai to produce face shields. The protective face shield is designed and developed by Ford engineers and will be distributed to frontline workers – doctors, paramedics, sanitary workers and emergency staff, Ford India said in a statement. Alongside its commitment to contribute to Prime Minister National Relief Fund (PMNRF), the company is following up with a global COVID-19 Donation Match program to raise USD 1 million potential aid for groups battling the pandemic across the globe, it added. Through the COVID-19 Donation Match, Ford Fund is giving employees, as well as their families and friends, an opportunity to donate to non-profits and other community organisations in their efforts to meet coronavirus-related needs in more than 20 countries around the world. In India, the initiative will take care of specially-abled communities during the time of crisis, it said. "Health and safety of our workforce, customers and communities is our highest priority. From knowledge to resources, we are deploying everything in our means to help fight this pandemic," Ford India executive director Marketing, Sales and Service Vinay Raina said. The company has also rolled out initiatives for its customers, like price protection for vehicles booked until April 30, warranty extension and extension of service timelines. MSS ANSANS

New Delhi, Apr 6 () India's services sector activity contracted during March as the COVID-19 pandemic dented demand, particularly in overseas markets, while public health measures aimed at stemming the outbreak curtailed discretionary spending, a monthly survey said on Monday. The IHS Markit India Services Business Activity Index was at 49.3 in March, down from February's 85-month high of 57.5, as the new coronavirus pandemic pulled the service sector into contraction. The headline figure fell by over 8 points, undoing the strong gains in growth momentum seen throughout 2019, the survey said. In PMI parlance, a print above 50 means expansion, while a score below that denotes contraction. "The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on India's services economy has not been fully realised yet," Joe Hayes, Economist at IHS Markit, said adding that "the survey data collection (March 12-27) was concluding just as Prime Minister Narendra Modi ordered a complete lockdown of the country". Hayes further said that "clearly the worse is yet to come as nationwide store closures and prohibition to leave the house will weigh heavily on the services economy, as has been seen elsewhere in the world". According to panel members, business activity was reduced in response to weaker demand and firms responded by reducing their workforces as intakes of new business were insufficient to maintain payroll numbers. Latest survey data pointed to the first fall in order book volumes at Indian service providers since September 2019. "Pressure now fully lies on the government to combat the economic challenges the lockdown will cause," Hayes said. The survey further noted that there were widespread reports of new business receipts struggling due to the COVID-19 outbreak, deterring discretionary spending. A number of firms also mentioned lower sales as a result of liquidity issues. Meanwhile, the Composite PMI Output Index that maps both the manufacturing and services sector fell to 50.6 in March, down 7 points from February's 57.6 to signal a sharp slowdown in private sector output growth and bringing an abrupt end to the recent strong upward-moving expansion trend. The number of deaths around the world linked to the new coronavirus has crossed over 69,000. In India, more than 4,000 coronavirus cases have been reported so far. DRR DRR ANSANS

COVID-19 pandemic pulls India's service sector activity into contraction mode

New Delhi, May 14 () German luxury carmaker BMW on Thursday said it has rolled out an extended service campaign across its entire dealer network in the country amid coronavirus pandemic. Under the initiative, BMW customers can avail comprehensive after-sales services, pre-monsoon and electrical function and ensure their vehicles are road-ready at all times, the automaker said. "BMW Extended Care+ service is designed to ensure all-round vehicle safety and total readiness of customer's cars at all times," BMW Group India acting President Arlindo Teixeira said in a statement. BMW extended care and service is a 33-point check service and customers can complete the entire booking process online, the automaker said. The company dealerships will deliver serviced vehicles at customer doorstep after adhering to proper sanitisation process, it added. MSS ANSANS

New Delhi, May 11 () German luxury carmaker Audi on Monday said it has introduced online sales and service initiative in India in order to enable customers book vehicles from their homes as coronavirus pandemic rages on. The company, which considers digitalisation as a key focus area, has integrated its entire sales network to enable customers to book new vehicles or get vehicles booked for service from home. Audi India Head Balbir Singh Dhillon said the company has been at the forefront of enabling and introducing future technologies for customers – including augmented and virtual reality elements. "Taking this digitalisation strategy a step forward, we are pleased to announce digital sales for our product portfolio and after-sales support for our existing and future customers," he added. Audi buyers can now familiarise themselves with features, configure their vehicle, explore finance options, and place an order, all from their homes. The company had been preparing to launch the online initiative in the third quarter, but the ongoing coronavirus pandemic led it to pre-pone the launch to the second quarter, Dhillon said. "This is the need of the hour and it is important that we give this freedom to our customer to look and feel the car sitting at their homes," he said. He, however, added that even with online facility available, customers would still like to physically touch and feel the car because of the high purchase cost involved. "So, if any customer wants to touch and feel the car, he can do that before finalising the purchase. But if anyone wants a complete contactless process, that is also possible," Dhillon noted. Audi India currently has 36 sales touch points across the country. The company's main rivals in India, Mercedes-Benz and BMW, have already announced online sales initiatives. New Delhi, Apr 3 () Siemens Ltd on Friday said it has committed Rs 20 crore towards providing critical medical care equipment across the country for the treatment of coronavirus-infected patients. The company will spent this amount towards providing providing medical care equipment such as ventilators and analysers to several healthcare facilities across India, it said in a statement. Along with these equipment, the company will also deliver 40,000 PCR test kits to Indian Council of Medical Research. It will set up a test lab at the National Cancer Institute in Jhajjar, Haryana, which is converting an 800-bed hospital into a COVID-19 critical care centre. The efforts also include creation of isolation units at select Siemens' facilities. Besides, the company will support migrant and temporary workers. Siemens Project and Service's engineers across all group companies are working towards ensuring essential equipment in hospitals, diagnostic laboratories, power plants, transmission &amp; distribution systems, critical metro &amp; rail equipment systems, and manufacturing facilities of essential goods. "In these tough and uncertain times, we pledge a total contribution of Rs 20 crore towards fighting COVID-19. In addition to the various measures announced, we are ensuring that we continue to support our extended supply chain and the temporary workforce at this time of need," the company's Managing Director and CEO Sunil Mathur said. New Delhi, Jun 10 () Consumer behaviour in India is radically changing due to COVID-19 with 60 per cent of buyers in the country believing that the pandemic would alter the way they shop, an EY survey said on Wednesday. According to the EY Future Consumer Index, five new segments may emerge as consumers move beyond the pandemic -- back with a bang (constituting 38 per cent of respondents), stay frugal (29 per cent), keep cutting (19 per cent), cautiously extravagant (11 per cent) and get to normal (2 per cent). The 'back with a bang' group is expected to spend much more in all categories, while 'stay frugal' will spend slightly less. The 'keep cutting' segment will make deep spending cuts, whereas the 'cautiously extravagant' section is willing to pay a premium for certain products and spending in 'get to normal' group will be largely unchanged, the survey noted. According to Pinakiranjan Mishra, Partner and National Leader, Consumer Products and Retail, at EY India, companies must formulate strategies immediately to address the challenges. Firms should incorporate permanent safety measures in offices and on shop floors, re-evaluate brand portfolio, expand relationships with third-party e-commerce platforms, and "most importantly, anticipate and be ready to respond to newer habits that consumers will develop after living through the pandemic," Mishra said. Given the anticipated changes in consumer behaviour and category dynamics, the report highlights that consumer product companies would need to take quick actions to respond to the 'now' phase, alter operating model to address the 'next' phase and then consider strategic transformations to build a resilient organisation for the 'beyond' phase. "As consumer product companies move into the 'next' and 'beyond' phase, their ability to digitally transform faster, invest in relevant technologies such as artificial intelligence, optimise the use of big data and analytics and improving overall customer experience will be the key differentiators in the industry, which will in turn enhance their resilience to withstand any future disruption," Mishra added. As a part of EY Future Consumer Index, 1,046 Indian consumers were surveyed, mostly in urban areas. The survey questionnaire covered current behaviours, sentiment and intent. DRR DRR ANS ANS

New Delhi, May 19 () Qualcomm India on Tuesday committed USD 1.5 million (about Rs 11.3 crore) towards the country's efforts to tackle the spread of COVID-19 infection. The contributions will be made towards PM CARES Fund, and multiple relief and public healthcare infrastructure initiatives, a statement said. The public healthcare infrastructure efforts include enabling broader availability of COVID-19 test kits, preventive health screening, helping front-line police forces and healthcare workers with sanitization and personal protective equipment as well as relief work supporting feeding the needy and at-risk in various regions across India, it added. "We are living in unprecedented times and the need of the hour is for all of us to come together and stand as a united force in fighting this pandemic. As a community, we will need to continue to work together to create solutions that address future challenges with insight and compassion," Rajen Vagadia, Vice President of Qualcomm India and President, Qualcomm India and SAARC, said. In addition, Qualcomm India employees, in their individual capacity, have been active contributors towards various community outreach and relief efforts, including personal contributions.
