Goa is in the process of updating its <keyword id="8699674" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Home-isolation">home isolation</keyword> protocol, Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said, adding that the state government is also in the process of further revising the capping of fees for treatment of Covid-19 patients in private hospitals. "We are in the process of further improving our home isolation protocol. It will be announced by the Chief Minister soon," Rane said, after a review meeting at the Chief Minister's official residence in <keyword id="6358261" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="panaji">Panaji</keyword> on Tuesday. Goa currently has around 5,667 active Covid-19 cases, from which a large number of patients have opted for treatment in home isolation. Rane also said that the government was in dialogue with the private healthcare players, in order to further revise the capping of rates for treatment of Covid-19 patients in private hospitals. "We are in the process of revising the rates," Rane said, adding that despite the revision and the capping of prices, patient-to-patient costs may still vary with the nature of treatment given to the Covid-19 patients. Last week, the Goa government had capped the prices for Covid-19 treatment in private hospitals with patients availing treatment in a general ward having to pay 12,000 per day, treatment in twin-shared rooms was capped at Rs 15,000 and while fees for admission of a Covid-19 patient in a private room was set at Rs 25,000 per day. Price for utilising the ICU facilities had been capped at Rs 25,000 per day. The capped pricing, however, came under severe criticism from the <keyword id="6360456" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Opposition">Opposition</keyword> as well as on social media, on which users said that the capped prices were too steep for the average wage earner in Goa. Goa to revise home isolation protocol and fees for COVID-19 treatment

The <keyword id="826" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Goa">Goa</keyword> government will install the life-size statue of late Argentine <keyword id="64" type="SPORT" weightage="20" keywordseo="Football">football</keyword> legend <keyword id="35731" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Diego-Maradona">Diego Maradona</keyword> in the coastal belt of North district by early next year, a senior minister said on Wednesday. Maradona's statue is already under making with a Maharashtra-based artist working on the mould, Calangute MLA and state Ports Minister Michael Lobo told . Lobo had announced installation of the statue of Maradona in 2018. "The statue would be installed somewhere at Candolim or Calangute to inspire the football playing youth," he said. Lobo said the mould of the statue is ready. "It is an actual-size statue as tall as late Maradona," the minister said, adding that the 350-kg statue is part of the <keyword id="51011" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="state-government">state government</keyword>'s initiative to encourage football culture. Lobo said a statue of another football legend Christiano Ronaldo is also being prepared which will be installed in North district of the state. Speaking to reporters here, <keyword id="7543721" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Chief-Minister-Pramod-Sawant">Chief Minister Pramod Sawant</keyword> said the <keyword id="6361705" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="State-cabinet">state cabinet</keyword> has approved the CMRY 2020 for Engineers, which will create a separate slot for young diploma and degree holders, where they can bid for small works in the state public works department (PWD). Engineers who have just earned their diploma or degree, and are below the age of 35, are eligible for the scheme, he said. Projects of up to Rs 5 lakh will be allotted to engineers with a diploma, while those holding a degree can bid for works of up to Rs 10 lakh, the chief minister said. The state-run Economic Development Corporation (EDC) will issue loans to engineers who take up such projects, he said. Sawant said the scheme will weed out the monopoly of some contractors who often bid for small works and also provide employment for new engineers. Persons with diploma or degree in civil engineering are directly eligible for the scheme, but the scope is also open for people who have completed the course in other streams, he added. RPS ARU ARU

New Delhi, Nov 28 () Onion prices remain high across the major cities of the country as the average selling price ruled at Rs 70 per kg on Thursday while the maximum rate of Rs 110 per kg was recorded in Panaji, according to official data.
 The lowest price of Rs 38 per kg of the bulb was reported from Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh, the Consumer Affairs Ministry data showed.
 Among the four metros, onion is being sold at Rs 76 per kg in the national capital, Rs 92 in Mumbai, Rs 100 per kg in Kolkata and Rs 80 per kg in Chennai.
 The ministry monitors prices of 22 essential commodities (rice, wheat, atta, gram dal, tur (arhar) dal, urad dal , moong dal, masur dal, sugar, gur, groundnut oil, mustard oil, vanaspati, sunflower oil, soya oil, palm oil, tea, milk, potato, onion, tomato and salt) based on data collected from 109 market centres spread across the country.
 Interestingly, a pricey onion seems to be catching the attention of thieves as an employee of a vegetable vendor in Surat said that someone stole 250 kg of the bulb worth Rs 25,000 from their shop in the early hours of the day.
 On Wednesday, the government extended prohibitions on traders from the stocking of edible bulb across the country for an indefinite period.
 The stock holding limit was imposed in September. At present, retailers can stock onion only up to 100 quintals and wholesale traders are allowed to keep up to 500 quintals.
 Food and Consumer Affairs Minister Ram Vilas Paswan on Wednesday had asserted that the government was making maximum efforts to control prices.
 Besides stock holding limit, he said, the Centre has banned exports of onion and importing 1.2 lakh tonnes to control prices.
 State-owned MMTC has informed that the first shipment of onions from Egypt would arrive in the second week of December. The public sector trading firm has contracted imports of 6,090 tonnes of onions.
 Expressing concern over the price rise, Paswan had said the situation is being closely monitored by a team of five Union ministers chaired by Home Minister Amit Shah. Finance minister, agriculture minister and road transport minister are also members of the group of ministers.
 The group of ministers has already held one meeting and another one will be held soon, he said.
 On November 19, Paswan had said onion production in Kharif and late-Kharif seasons of 2019-20 is estimated to fall 26 per cent to 5.2 million tonnes due to a delayed monsoon and then excessive rains in key growing areas.
 The buffer stock of 57,000 tonnes of onions has been liquidated and therefore the Centre decided to import. MJH MJH MR

Onion prices remain high, soar to Rs 110/kg in Panaji

New Delhi, Dec 10 () For the second week in a row, onion prices on Tuesday stayed above the Rs 100 per kg mark, as government efforts to cool the rates seem to be taking more time than expected.
 The rates were as high as Rs 165 a kg in Panaji, while the average of 114 major cities in the country came to over Rs 100, according to official data available here.
 Onion prices started to climb from September and have averaged over Rs 100 per kg since November 25.
 Onion, which is an essential ingredient in many food preparations, is a politically sensitive item and its high prices have been a cause of defeat for many governments in the past.
 According to the data, onion prices are ruling at Rs 96 per kg in the national capital, Rs 102 per kg in Mumbai, Rs 100 in Chennai and Rs 140 per kg in Kolkata.
 Onions are being sold at Rs 160 per kg in Thiruvananthapuram, Kozhikode, Mayabunder, and at Rs 150 per kg in Tirupati, Ernakulam, Thrissur and Palakkad.
 In Bengaluru, Wayanad, Ramanathapuram and Port Blair, the rates stood at Rs 140 per kg.
 Onion prices prevailed at Rs 120 per kg in Gurugram, Jagdalpur, Behrampur, Purulia, Maldah, Itanagar, Agartala, Puducherry, Dindigul, Tirunelveli and Dharmapuri.
 In Amritsar, Surat, Jabalpur, Darbhanga, Sambalpur, Balasore and Gangtok, onion prices were Rs 110 per kg.
 Onion rates are Rs 100 per kg in Chandigarh, Shimla, Mandi, Srinagar, Jammu, Ludhiana, Gorakhpur, Haridwar, Ahmedabad, Patna, Cuttack, Jeypore, Kharagpur, Raiganj, Shillong and Tiruchirappalli.
 Last month, Union Food and Consumer Affairs Minister attributed the rise in prices to a 26 per cent decline in domestic production during kharif and late-kharif seasons because of late monsoon followed by excess rains in major producing states such as Maharashtra and Karnataka.
 The minister has been maintaining that the government has taken all possible steps to rein in prices such as imposing a ban on exports and allowing imports of 1.2 lakh tonnes to boost supply.
 The Centre has also put restrictions on quantities of onions to be stocked by retailers and wholesalers.
 On Monday, the Centre further reduced the stock holding limit for onion to 2 tonnes from 5 tonnes for retail traders.
 Last week, the ministry had reduced the stock holding limit on wholesalers to 25 tonnes from 50 tonnes.
 State-owned MMTC has already contracted over 21,000 tonnes and the shipment is expected to arrive from this week.
 Experts are of the view that onion prices will remain firm till the first week of January when the late-kharif onions will start hitting the market. LUX MJH ANZ HRS
