AdPorts and Special Economic Zone on Thursday reported that its Profit After Tax or net profits during the just-concluded financial year 2023-24 grew by a whopping 50 per cent to Rs 8,104 crore. In 2022-23, they were at Rs 5,391 crore. During the fourth quarter January-March, the net profits grew 77 per cent to Rs 2,015 crore. With incremental cargo volumes of 100 million tonne achieved in less than two years, Adani Ports is well poised to achieve 500 million tonne of cargo volumes in 2025, aided by the recently acquired Gopalpur Port, and the scheduled commissioning of Vizhinjam Port in the current year and WCT (West Container Terminal) next year, said Gupta. "We continue to invest heavily in the business to drive growth, particularly in the logistics segment. Our newly launched trucking segment enables APSEZ to provide the last-mile connectivity solution to its customers. Our efforts towards sustainable business growth are well recognized in the top decile ESG rating from four global rating agencies," added Gupta. In 2023-24, APSEZ said it handled 27 per cent of the country's total cargo and 44 per cent of container cargo. Ten of its ports from the India portfolio recorded their lifetime high cargo volumes for the year. For 2023-24, the APSEZ Board has recommended a dividend of Rs 6 per share. This implies a payout of around Rs 1,300 crore for the company. A dividend is a reward that companies often provide to their shareholders, though it is not mandatory, from a portion of their earnings. Adani Ports' net profits jump 50% in 2023-24, registers threefold cargo growth

The city witnessed a significant year-on-year growth of 22% in absorption, reaching 5.3 million square feet during the period of January to September 2023. It also accounted for a 19% share in pan-India I&amp;L leasing during January to September 2023. “The I&amp;L sector in Mumbai has witnessed remarkable growth in absorption, driven by the surge in quality supply additions and robust festive demand. With the completion of pent-up projects, the overall absorption is expected to reach a 5-year high by the end of 2023, said Anshuman Magazine, Chairman &amp; CEO - India, South-East Asia, Middle East &amp; Africa, CBRE. Third-party logistics, engineering &amp; manufacturing, and FMCG sectors were the major contributors to absorption in Mumbai. The city also recorded a supply addition of 3.4 million sq. ft. during January to September 2023. In the July to September quarter, Mumbai witnessed a leasing of 1.3 million sq. ft. and a supply addition of 0.9 million sq. ft. ‘I&amp;L sector to hit 5-year high absorption mark in 2023’ The I&amp;L sector in India is expected to reach a 5-year high absorption mark of 36-38 million sq ft in 2023 across the top 8 cities. Supply addition is also projected to outperform, reaching 35-37 million sq ft by the end of the year. The leasing in the I&amp;L sector grew by 13% year-on-year during January to September 2023. Mumbai, Chennai, and Delhi-NCR collectively accounted for a share of 56% in the leasing activity during this period. Engineering &amp; manufacturing (E&amp;M) companies accounted for a 15% share, followed by auto &amp; ancillary (7%), FMCG (6%), and electronics &amp; electricals (5%). Ram Chandnani, Managing Director, Advisory &amp; Transactions Services, CBRE India said, “We also anticipate a surge of interest from FMCG, retail, and electronics &amp; electrical sectors, driven by consumer demand. Additionally, domestic corporates have taken the lead in leasing activities, capturing a substantial 59% share, with EMEA and APAC Corporates contributing significantly at 25% and 12% respectively during the July-September 2023 period.” Supply addition recorded a 57% year-on-year increase in January to September 2023. Delhi-NCR, Chennai, and Kolkata collectively contributed 56% to the supply additions during this period. Domestic corporations led the leasing activities with a 59% share, while EMEA and APAC corporations contributed significantly at 25% and 12%, respectively. ‘Rising rents bolstered by new, tech-advanced assets’ Chennai recorded the highest absorption in the July to September 2023 quarter with 2.1 million sq. ft., followed by Bangalore and Mumbai with 1.7 million sq. ft. and 1.3 million sq. ft., respectively. Magazine said that the active participation of larger developers backed by institutional funds, contributing around 40% to the completed projects, underscores the sector’s growth potential. “In select micro-markets, the prospect of rising rents is bolstered by the premium commanded by new, investment-grade, technologically advanced, and strategically situated assets,” he added.

Mumbai leads Industrial & Logistics leasing in India with strong absorption growth

Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India], November 9 (ANI): AdPorts and Special Economic Zone Ltd. (APSEZ) has reported robust financial results for the second quarter and the first half ending September 30, 2023, showcasing remarkable growth across key metrics. According to a press release by Adani, APSEZ witnessed a substantial YoY revenue growth of 26 per cent, reaching Rs 12,894 Crores during H1 FY24. The company's Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation, and Amortization (EBITDA) recorded an impressive YoY growth of 49 per cent, amounting to Rs 7,429 Crores. Profit After Tax (PAT) increased by 33 per cent YoY, reaching Rs 3,881 Crores. The port EBITDA margin expanded by 220 basis points (bps) YoY to 72 per cent in H1 FY24. APSEZ achieved record cargo volumes of 203 MMT during H1 FY24 across its 8 ports and terminals. Mundra Port, the flagship port, celebrated 25 years of successful operations, handling over 16 MMT of cargo in a month and achieving the 4 Mn TEUs milestone in just 203 days. APSEZ expanded its logistics business, adding 11 rakes, Loni ICD, and warehouses at Mumbai and Indore during H1 FY24. Karan Adani, CEO and Whole Time Director of APSEZ expressed satisfaction with the company's outstanding performance, citing a 14 per cent YoY increase in cargo volume and improved operational efficiencies contributing to the 72 per cent domestic ports EBITDA during H1 FY24. Adani said, "APSEZ achieved another milestone by registering its highest ever half-yearly revenue of Rs 12,894 Crore, EBITDA of Rs 7,429 Crore and cargo volumes of 203 MMT during H1 FY24. The splendid performance was on the back of a 14 per cent YoY increase in cargo volume coupled with improving operational efficiencies at our ports, which has resulted in our domestic ports EBITDA improving by 220bps YoY to 72 per cent during H1 FY24." APSEZ's under-construction port in Sri Lanka secured a funding commitment of USD 553 million from the US International Development Finance Corporation (DFC). The logistics business recorded significant growth, with rail volumes up 25 per cent YoY and GPWIS volumes up 42 per cent YoY during H1 FY24. APSEZ achieved an emission intensity reduction of 48 per cent and a water intensity reduction of 58 per cent from the base year (FY2016) as of H1 FY24. The company completed a mangrove plantation of 4,200 Ha against its 2025 target of 5,000 Ha. S&amp;P (DJSI) provided APSEZ with a score of 65 (out of 100), ranking it in the top 4 per cent globally in the Transport and Transport infrastructure sector in its 2023 ESG assessment. The report 'Assessing the Net Impact of e-Commerce on <keyword id="19898684" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="employment" source="keywords">Employment</keyword> and Consumer Welfare in India' was launched by Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal. "Plugging in data from our survey, we estimate that online vendors generate 15.8 million jobs, including 3.5 million jobs for women," the report prepared by Pahle India Foundation (PIF), a Delhi-based policy research institute, said. E-commerce, according to the report, has been a key driver of employment generation In India. On an average, online vendors employ 54 per cent more people and almost twice the number of female employees, compared to offline vendors. The report noted that two of the most widely-recognised contributions of e-commerce penetration in the retail sector are --growth in employment and improvements in consumer welfare. It said rather than displacing physical markets, e-commerce is expanding into new territories like tier 3 cities. "Our data shows that a higher percentage of Tier 3 city consumers spend more than Rs 5,000 per month on online shopping as compared to consumers from bigger cities," it said, adding this is the India consumption story, which enables the co-existence of physical and digital retail. The study analysed the impact e-commerce has had on employment and consumer welfare through a pan-India survey of 2,062 online vendors, 2,031 offline vendors, and 8,209 consumers of products from e-commerce websites across 35 cities in 20 states and UTs. According to the report, each e-commerce vendor on an average employs about 9 people, of which 2 are female, while each offline vendor employs about 6 people, of which only 1 is female. It pointed out that there was increase in employment across skill levels, including high-skilled (management, marketing), medium-skilled (customer service, operations), and low-skilled (warehousing, logistics, delivery) functions. The report said that the growth of e-commerce and accompanying digitalisation have fundamentally changed the skill sets and roles required in the industry. "Vendors have experienced improved business performance parameters since listing online, including higher sales and profits," it said. According to the report, 60 per cent and 52 per cent of vendors, respectively, state that their sales and profits have increased since the time they have started selling online. "Overall, more than two thirds of the online vendors interviewed experienced an increase in online sales value and profits in the past year," the report said, adding that 58 per cent saw an increase in both. Barring costs, it said vendors have seen a positive shift in all other aspects of business performance since they started selling online. The report said there is a strong business case for offline vendors to list on e-commerce platforms or pursue an omni-channel strategy. "E-commerce integration has accrued significant benefits to vendors from smaller cities and micro-enterprises," it said. The study also delves into how e-commerce has reshaped consumer behaviour, noting that consumers have shifted to online shopping for reasons that include convenience, product variety, and access. "A highly engaged consumer base is indicated by the fact that more than 50 per cent of all respondents to the survey spent more than two hours on e-commerce platforms a week, and that 70 per cent made a purchase via e-commerce in the last month alone," it said. Speaking at the event, former NITI Aayog Vice Chairman Rajiv Kumar said, e-commerce has revolutionized India's retail landscape. Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation(MoSPI) secretary Saurabh Garg lauded the government's initiatives expanding digital public infrastructure that have enabled the smooth expansion of e-commerce. During that period, the US and Europe slapped sanctions on Russian oil to defund Putin's military machine and punish Moscow for attacking a sovereign nation.Despite that, India purchased an estimated $37 billion of Moscow's oil in 2023 — 13 times the amount it bought annually prior to the conflict. Karan Adani said currently, Adani Group operates the two largest private ports in Andhra Pradesh - Krishnapatnam and Gangavaram, with a total capacity of 100 million tonnes per annum. "In the next 5 years, not only do we aim to double this capacity, but also transform these ports into industrial port cities," he said. "By developing industrial clusters at Krishnapatnam and Gangavaram and attracting industries, we will be able to reduce the logistics costs drastically, thus making these industries far more competitive globally." The group is also developing 15,000 MW of renewable power projects over the next few years across five districts of Anantapur, Kadapa, Kurnool, Visakhapatnam and Vizianagaram. "Our other investments in the state include cement manufacturing units and data centres. Presently we do not have any cement manufacturing capacity in Andhra Pradesh. Hence, as part of our expansion plans, we will be setting up cement plants in Kadapa and Nadikudi with a total capacity of 10 million tonnes per annum," he said. Also, the group is working on developing a 400 MW of data centre in Visakhapatnam. "These projects will bring further employment opportunities and demonstrate our commitment to the sustainable growth of the state of Andhra Pradesh," he said. He praised Andhra Pradesh for its "excellent infrastructure, large manufacturing base, talented youth, and business-friendly environment." With the second longest coastline in India, the state has been recognised by the World Bank as the No.1 implementer of energy efficiency and conservation programmes.
