Today, the brand is called Lijjat Papad, and it has grown to be a ₹1,600 crore business with 81 branches and employs over 45,000 women across the country, all of whom are considered co-owners in the enterprise. Recognising her journey, the Indian government gave the Padma Shri award, the fourth highest civilian award in the country, to the 91-year old entrepreneur. While most people may not recognise her by name, it is unlikely that you are unfamiliar with her product. The papads are sold across the country and even exported to countries like the United States, Singapore, United Kingdom, Thailand and Netherlands among others. Not just papads, now Lijjat also sells masalas, atta, chapati and even detergent. The organisation has also had its share of failures, such as cottage leather, match sticks and incense sticks, which had to be shut down. “The credit of Lijjat Papad goes to every woman working here. In March 2019, Jaishankar had received the Padma Shri award from President Ram Nath Kovind. Now, he has been appointed as the Minister for External Affairs in the Modi government that has come back to power for a second consecutive term. He was the country's longest-serving foreign secretary and has helped craft much of Modi's foreign policy. He joined Indian Foreign Service in 1977 and served as Indian Ambassador to the United States in 2014 and 2015. He was India's ambassador to China from 2009 to 2013, and to the Czech Republic from 2001 to 2004. And, I remember I wrote in my essay that they should start teaching science from Class 5 and not Class 7 or 8 because, otherwise, in the competitive exams we are at a disadvantage. And, believe it or not, the school accepted it," she told Business Insider. Godbole holds the Padma Shri, the highest civilian honour in India, as dearer because it is "like your parents patting you on the back." Women in India who have been conferred with the Padma Shri award usually come from the fields of art and music, medicine, health, and social work. However, Godbole is a rare case where the work of a woman from science has been recognised. I grew up in what one would call a typical middle-class family. But, they had always set a very high value on education. And, I grew up in Pune, which is in Maharashtra. It used to be called — at least once upon a time — the Oxbridge of India. So, it's a city well-known for its education. I studied in an all-girls school, which was perhaps the first English high school that was also a girls’ high school founded in Maharashtra — perhaps even in India. We were never taught general science, till 7th class. We were only taught home science. And, in 7th grade there used to be a scholarship called the State Merit Scholarship examination in which there used to be one paper on general science. Since I used to be pretty good in mathematics, my teachers actually took the trouble of working after hours with me. And that's when I started learning science. In fact, at the time, one of my class teacher’s husband — who was a science teacher — offered that I could talk to him in the evenings at his home, and he introduced me to many things outside the books in science. He taught me to read science magazines, and then I started taking part in science essay competitions because of him. This is how my science interest began. How does it feel to be among one of the few dozen women said this to win international accolade and recognition in the scientific field? OK, you know, I really wish people would stop thinking of us women scientists as women scientists. We happen to be scientists who happen to be women. But, I really look forward to the day when one is not slotted as a woman scientist. This is just my feeling and hope that I'm trying to express. But yes, I think I'm quite happy. Of course, I'm happy on a personal level. You don't do research for getting recognition. You do research for the joy of it. ... I think women getting these awards does have an additional plus side to it. It tells young girls that there is nothing special about it. That no, gender does not, and cannot play a role in it. A man and a woman can equally really get the honour. And, to me, that is actually one of the very best things that happens when women get awards. Why don't you tell us a little bit about your field of study? That's a question dear to my heart because that's what I've been doing for the last 50 years. Firstly doing it, then teaching it and finally doing research in it. The general subject that I'm working on is what we can call particle physics. And, the other word for the same subject is high energy physics. ... This is really kind of a study of what are the most fundamental constituents of nature and how those constituents are put together. The subject is somehow very interesting and very difficult to unravel at the same time because it's like completing a puzzle made out of Lego pieces. You want to understand what is the size and shape of the different Lego pieces which make the whole. And we're not allowed to take things apart, right? That is, to some extent, the nature of the work. ... The point is that efforts that have gone on trying to understand this have given us, for example, lasers, the Internet as well as semiconductors. Therefore, this kind of journey is at the heart of all matter. It has been going on for centuries, actually, almost two centuries. It has produced byproducts for our technology just because some of the things people have investigated, they have done it just for the heck of it. Then, what is the one piece of advice or word of caution that you would like to share with girls aspiring to join the scientific community? There is no word of caution. I mean frankly, I think whether you are studying science arts, or commerce, gender is not an issue — ever. Your gender cannot play a role in this. What plays a role is your intellectual abilities and your interest. There is nothing special about studying science compared to studying history. Each has its value. Each has its interest. And, one should just follow one's own mind. That is the one piece of advice I would give — that follow your own mind. Don't let others tell you whether maths is not for you or physics is not for you. This includes amendments to permit cancellations of Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) — which permits foreign citizens of Indian origin to stay and work in India. “This is a wide ground that may cover a range of violations, including minor offences (eg. parking in a no parking zone),” PRS said. Violence in other parts of the country Not just Assam, the bill faced protests from around the world — students from different universities in Assam gathered at Jantar Mantar in Delhi going against the central government holding placards that said ‘No to Citizenship Amendment Bill’, ‘Down with Citizenship Amendment Bill’ seeking the government to rollback the amendments.

He is the inventor of a low-cost sanitary pad making machine and has innovated grass-roots mechanisms for generating awareness about traditional unhygienic practices around menstruation in rural India. His mini-machines, which can manufacture sanitary pads for less than a third of the cost of commercial pads, have been installed in 23 of the 29 states of India. He is currently planning to expand the production of these machines to 106 nations. 
 Taking an inspiration from this, Twinkle <keyword id="1983" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Khanna">Khanna</keyword> wanted to cast Akshay Kumar for this biopic ‘Pad Man’. And guess who’s directing the film? It’s none other than maestro <keyword id="72976" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="R-Balki">R Balki</keyword>, who has made wonderful films like Paa and English Vinglish.

Amongst the who’s who of the Indian society that received the Padma Awards from the honourable Indian president on Monday, there was a man who had barely attended school, but was the subject of five PhDs. This writer and poet from western Odisha, who received the <keyword id="25105" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Padma-Shri">Padma Shri</keyword> award from the hands of the President, is <keyword id="3302908" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Haldhar-Nag">Haldhar Nag</keyword>, a 66-year-old poet of Kosli language. 
 
Nag remembers all the poems and 20 epics that he has penned in this language, which would soon be compiled by Sambalpur University, and be a part of its syllabus. 
 
"He remembers whatever he writes and has been reciting them. You just need to mention the name or subject. He never misses anything. Now he attends at least three to four programmes every day to recite his poems," said a close associate of the poet. Nag told TOI, "It's great to see the huge interest of young people in poems in Kosli. Everyone is a poet, but only a few have the art of giving them shape." 
 
Always seen in a white dhoti and a vest, Nag has never worn footwear in his life as far as he remembers. Born in a poor family of Ghens in the Bargarh district of Odisha in 1950, he only went to school till the third standard, after which he had to drop out owing to his father’s death. 
 
After that, he worked as a dishwasher at a local sweet shop and later a cook, before setting up a small shop of stationeries and eatables for school students. It was then that he wrote his first poem 'Dhodo Bargachh' (The Old Banyan Tree) in 1990, which found its place in a local magazine. 
 
"I was felicitated and that encouraged me to write more. I started touring nearby villages to recite my poems and got huge response," he said. 
He is now known as Lok Kabi Ratna in Odisha, and draws his themes from the rustic surroundings of Odisha, writing mostly on nature, society, mythology and religion.

When we woke up this morning and reached for our phones to make our presence felt on the internet, little did we expect <keyword id="6355629" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Google">Google</keyword>’s homepage to pay tribute to a man whose birthday we’d forgotten over the birthday of our beloved Prime <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=narendra+modi">Minister Narendra Modi</a> and the homecoming of Ganesha, popularly known as <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/GodSaveTheOcean-This-Ganesh-Chaturthi-Mumbai-NGO-makes-idols-that-fish-can-eat/articleshow/48786857.cms">Ganesh Chaturthi</a>. 
 Maqbool Fida Husain, the renowned Indian <keyword id="6448302" type="POSITION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Painter">painter</keyword> would have turned 100 today. 
 
In keeping with his cubist style, Google used Husain’s favourite colours to come up with an abstract geometrical illustration comprising circles and a painted portrait of the late artist holding a brush, at the centre. 
 
The Padma Shri award winner had relocated to London and Dubai after numerous death threats and lawsuits from right-wing Hindu fundamentalists over his depiction of Hindu gods. 
 
At the age of 95, the maestro breathed his last in London on June 29, 2011 where he used to spend his summers while on his self-imposed exile. 
 
The multi-faceted painter was also an accomplished illustrator, photographer and filmmaker. 
 
However, despite his greatness, people of his own country forced him to go on a self-imposed exile and give up Indian citizenship. 
 If that was not enough, a section of people who took to social media to express their astonishment at Google choosing the late artist for its tribute and not <keyword id="6354477" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Narendra-Modi">Narendra Modi</keyword>., while the rest joined in on the rituals of wishing the famed painter a Happy Birthday. 
 
Soon enough, M. F Husain started trending on Twitter, as well- which brings me to my original point. 
 
Would M.F Husain be the subject of all this fanfare had he not featured on the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/The-5-best-Google-Doodles-of-all-time/articleshow/47338021.cms">Google Doodle</a> today? Would we have gone about our usual day celebrating Ganesh Chaturthi and wishing the leader of the largest democracy in the world, but forgetting to spare more than a minute for one of the greatest painters India has seen? 
 
Before nodding your head to say ‘No, we would not,’ do bear in mind we are the same country who took offense to his painting depicting Hindu gods, labeled him anti-Hindu, mainly due to his religion, harassed him non-stop and protested against his existence in the country he was born in, while burning his posters. 
 
We failed in giving him the treatment he deserved when he was alive and we would have failed in revering him today too, had it not been for Google reminding us about Husain's unapologetic devotion to beauty, people, and the world. 
 
If that’s not enough, there are also some people who want Google to apologise for featuring Husain on their doodle.

After developing several varieties of <keyword id="6368690" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Mango">mango</keyword> that he named after celebrities and leading personalities, renowned <keyword id="228712" type="POSITION" weightage="80" keywordseo="horticulturist">horticulturist</keyword> <keyword id="2839276" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Haji-Kalimullah-Khan">Haji Kalimullah Khan</keyword> has grown one more variety of the royal fruit which he named after <keyword id="71" type="POSITION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Prime-Minister">Prime Minister</keyword> <keyword id="6354477" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Narendra-Modi">Narendra Modi</keyword>. 
 Kalimullah Khan, 74, recipient of Padma Shri award, has named his newly-developed mango variety as '<keyword id="61671" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="NaMo">NaMo</keyword> Aam'. 
 
Explaining his logic behind the name, Kalimullah told reporters, "Just like the Prime Minister, who has joined the league of world famous leaders, this mango will also be in the limelight and promote brotherhood." 
 
"By inviting the heads of neighbouring nations to his swearing-in ceremony as Prime Minister, Modi has extended an olive branch to them. Better relations with neighbours will foster brotherhood in the world. I have been inspired to name my new variety of mango as Namo Aam," Kalimullah, who is also nicknamed 'Mango Man' of UP's Malihabad region said. 
 
Kalimullah, who has been growing mangoes since 1957, describes the 'NaMo' variety as "beautiful and juicy". 
 
The horticulturist has a penchant to develop and grow new and rare varieties of mangoes and name them after celebrities. So far he has named the varieties after <keyword id="143" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Bollywood">Bollywood</keyword> actress <keyword id="6366471" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Aishwarya-Rai">Aishwarya Rai</keyword>, cricket icon <keyword id="6354267" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Sachin-Tendulkar">Sachin Tendulkar</keyword>, among others. 
 
Kalimullah said he names the new mango varieties after celebrities to make the legends "immortal". 
 
Khan's mango orchard is spread over five acres area at Malihabad, in which he has developed new varieties of mangoes. 
 
 
The orchard has about a century-old prized tree, on which he started working in 1987 to develop the craft of growing different varieties on it. He has named the mangoes grown on this tree after his family members, who were also mango growers. 
 
Kalimullah's 'magic tree' has borne over 300 varieties of mangoes. Every fruit has a tiny tin label of identification on its pale green pedicle. 
 
 
His rare technique of growing multiple varieties of mangoes of different shapes, sizes and hues on one tree has helped him get Padma Shri. 
 Replying to a question, Kallimullah said he plans to name the next variety of mango after Delhi Chief Minister <keyword id="260213" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Arvind-Kejriwal">Arvind Kejriwal</keyword>, who is a "trendsetter" in politics. 
 
 
Underlining the needs to boost mango export, Kalimullah said he wants to develop a sugar-free variety of mango for diabetic patients. 
 
The 'Mango Man' described that developing new varieties of mangoes was a kind of creation and not tampering with nature.
