OYO to roll out comprehensive ethical hacking and bug bounty programs

<ul><li>The Indian hospitality unicorn <keyword id="2808667" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="OYO">OYO</keyword>’s founder <keyword id="1670338" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ritesh-Agarwal">Ritesh Agarwal</keyword> wants to buy back shares worth $1.5 billion, according to reports. </li><li>Agarwal holds 9.43% in the hospitality startup, while SoftBank, the Japanese investment firm, controls 45.69% of the company. </li><li>According to OYO’s clauses, SoftBank cannot take up more than 49.99% in the company without approval from Agarwal and his early investors. </li></ul>In an unprecedented move in the Indian startup ecosystem, OYO founder Ritesh Agarwal is looking to buy back shares worth $1.5 billion according to an <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/small-biz/startups/newsbuzz/oyo-founder-in-talks-to-buy-back-1-5-billion-shares/articleshow/70121644.cms">ET report.</a> The report cited sources to say that the founder is looking buy shares from its early investors like Sequoia and Lightspeed Venture Partners, to have greater control of his company. In an email response, an OYO spokesperson said, “As a company policy, we don’t comment on speculations. We have no further comments.” Agarwal reportedly wants to raise his stake in the firm to over 30%. Currently, Agarwal holds 9.43% in the hospitality startup, while SoftBank, the Japanese investment firm, controls 45.69% of the company. The report further says that the founder is looking to raise $2 billion of secured debt through investors in India, Japan and Europe. Meanwhile, early investor Lightspeed has 13.4% stake, while Sequoia Capital has 10.24%. According to information sourced by paper.vc, Article 21.6 of Oyo’s Articles of Association prohibit Softbank from, directly or indirectly, acquiring more than 49.99% of the fully diluted share capital of the company, without the consent of Ritesh Aggarwal, Greenoaks, Lightspeed and Sequoia Capital. SoftBank has been an investor in OYO since a long time now. It was Softbank's investment that led OYO into the Indian unicorn club with a $5 billion valuation in September 2018, a huge jump from the $900 million valuation it had until then. Reports say that OYO is once again looking at raising funds through debt and primary, secondary transactions, which could take its valuation to over $10 billion. The Indian hospitality unicorn has been spreading its business fast across the world. It recently became China’s largest hotel chain. OYO said that it will invest $300 million to expand its footprint in the United States – into cities like New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco. It already has 50 hotels across 15 states in the US. It recently launched services in Vietnam. Here is how the upcoming budget might affect startups: 
 
• Lower holding period for long-term capital gains The primary matter of concern for startups in India has been <keyword id="6383566" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Taxation">taxation</keyword>. 
The DIPP has proposed that the period for long-term capital gains for unlisted securities should be reduced from the current limit of 24 months which can lead to higher investments. 
 
• Taxation of ESOPs during sale 
The DIPP has proposed that the employee stock option plans (ESOPs) for startups should be taxed at the time of sale of these stocks. Larger startups can now rejoice since this would provide them with transparency from a valuation perspective as well as further boost their liquidity from a tax outflow perspective. 
 
• Tax holiday period 
The tax concession period currently spans three years and there is a demand to increase this to between five and seven. If this demand is accepted then it could mean that there will be a huge increase in a number of start-ups.

The budget should aggressively focus on innovation-led businesses and some encouraging fiscal policies to make provisions to enable India to improve its Ease of Doing Business ranking by encouraging investments in startups.

Wellness Forever Medicare Ltd, a leading retail pharmacy and wellness network, has filed draft red herring prospectus (DRHP) with markets watchdog Sebi for an initial share sale. The size of the Initial Public Offering (IPO) of the company, backed by <keyword id="242973" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Serum-Institute" source="Orion">Serum Institute</keyword>'s <keyword id="383467" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="adar-poonawalla" source="Orion">Adar Poonawalla</keyword>, is likely to be in the range of ₹1,500-1,600 crore, according to merchant banking sources. Apart from a fresh issue worth up to ₹400 crore, there will be an Offer for Sale (OFS) wherein shares will be offloaded by promoters — Ashraf Mohammed Biran, Gulshan Haresh Bakhtiani and Mohan Ganpat Chavan — and other shareholders. The proceeds from the fresh issue will be utilised for funding capital expenditure for setting up of new stores as well as incremental working capital requirements, repayment/ pre-payment of borrowings and for general corporate purposes, according to the Draft Red Herring Prospectus (DRHP). The OFS will include sale of up to 1.60 crore equity shares. Around 7.20 lakh shares each will be on offer by Biran and Bakhtiani. Besides, Chavan will offload up to 1.20 lakh shares and up to 144.85 lakh shares by other existing shareholders. IIFL Securities, Ambit Pvt Ltd, DAM Capital Advisors Ltd, and HDFC Bank are book running lead managers to the issue. In recent months, there has been a flurry of activities in the IPO market that also coincided with the stock market touching new peaks. <ul><li>The lockdown will impact the <keyword id="7932519" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="gig-economy-workers">gig economy workers</keyword> or the <keyword id="667744" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Blue-collar-jobs">blue collar jobs</keyword> the most as they go unpaid. </li><li>According to an ET report, 120 million workers were not paid wages last month, thanks to the nationwide lockdown. </li><li>Across domains, the Covid-19 crisis has impacted over half of the contractual staff in India. </li><li>The experts in the sector are now seeking government measures to save contractual employees. </li></ul>As business comes to a grinding halt during lockdown, millions of jobs are now at risk. In fact, the unemployment rate in India is inching up. For the week ending April 26, it came in at 21.1%, according to data by the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE). However, the worst of all are gig economy workers who have a job whose earnings depend on ‘how much’ they work. They are clocking in zero earnings. In a country as vast as India, it accounted to 120 million workers who went unpaid last month. As per an ET report, India has nearly 170 million people employed in blue-collar jobs — including drivers, logistics, delivery and other contractual staff. A large chunk of such workers also lost their jobs ‘on paper’ too leaving them with a bleak future even after the lockdown ends. “The slowdown started around mid-March and only around 20-30 million people now have their employment intact,” Pravin Agarwala, cofounder of Betterplace, a blue-collar employee management firm, <a href="https://m.economictimes.com/jobs/virus-takes-a-toll-on-blue-collar-staff-no-pay-for-12-crore/amp_articleshow/75415272.cms">told</a> ET. More downsizing on the way Companies are also expected to downsize the staff further in the coming quarters as the <keyword id="1754604" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="coronavirus">Coronavirus</keyword> infection shows no signs of dying down. However, the industry might pace up if the demand surges during the festive season. On the other hand, this will also impact those employed without a legal contract such as casual labourers — who do not have a fixed take home salary. Over five million Indians have contract jobs which are less than a year in tenure. A recent survey by the job search platform Indeed also said that half of the Indian businesses already trimmed the contractual workforce and freelancers - to cut operational costs. The cost of unemployment Half of India’s contractual staff is in deep trouble. Startups like Swiggy, Udaan, Oyo, Meesho and others have laid off their contractual staff or sent them on unpaid leaves to keep up with the running costs. Even the incomes have declined by massive 60%. The experts in the sector are now seeking government measures to save contractual employees. "Aggregator models like Ola, Uber, Swiggy need to start social security measures in their respective companies. While it is difficult to protect their entire earnings, but there has to be some sustenance amount, at least of ₹5,000 per month, that is going into their bank account, otherwise, it is like a 'use and throw' model," Jayant Krishna, Executive Director for Public Policy at Wadhwani Foundation <a href="https://www.businesstoday.in/latest/coronavirus-crisis-provide-job-security-to-blue-collar-workers-like-corporate-employees-say-experts/story/401962.html">told</a> Business Today. Over 120 million blue collar employees go unpaid as operational restrictions impact businesses

A Mozilla study on Thursday claimed that in nearly 80 per cent of the apps reviewed on <keyword id="6355629" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="google" source="Orion">Google</keyword> Play Store, it found the data privacy labels were false or misleading based on discrepancies between the apps' privacy policies and the information apps self-reported on Google's <keyword id="847216" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="data-safety" source="Orion">Data Safety</keyword> Form. The researchers said that the system fails to help consumers make more informed choices about their privacy before purchasing or downloading one of the store's 2.7 million apps. The study uncovers serious loopholes in the Data Safety Form, which make it easy for apps to provide false or misleading information. "Consumers care about privacy and want to make smart decisions when they download apps. Google's Data Safety labels are supposed to help them do that. Unfortunately, they don't. Instead, I'm worried they do more harm than good," said Jen Caltrider, <keyword id="11154104" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="project-lead" source="Orion">Project Lead</keyword>, Mozilla. "When I see Data Safety labels stating that apps like Twitter or TikTok don't share data with third parties, it makes me angry because it is completely untrue. Of course, Twitter and TikTok share data with third parties. Consumers deserve better. Google must do better," he added. For example, Google exempts apps sharing data with "service providers" from its disclosure requirements, which is problematic due to both the narrow definition it uses for service providers and the large amount of consumer data involved. The study said that Google absolves itself of the responsibility to verify whether the information is true stating that apps "are responsible for making complete and accurate declarations" in their Data Safety labels. For the study, Mozilla compared privacy policies and labels of the 20 most popular paid apps and the 20 most popular free apps on Google Play Store. It found that 16 out of 40 apps, or 40 per cent, received a "Poor" grade, including Minecraft, Twitter, and Facebook. Around 15 apps, or 37.5 per cent, received a middle grade, "Needs Improvement", including YouTube, Google Maps, Gmail, <keyword id="691301" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="whatsapp-messenger" source="Orion">WhatsApp Messenger</keyword>, and Instagram. Just six of the 40 apps received an "OK" grade. These apps were: <keyword id="1739317" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="candy-crush-saga" source="Orion">Candy Crush Saga</keyword>, Google Play Games, Subway Surfers, Stickman Legends Offline Games, PowerAmp Full Version Unlocker, and League of Stickman: 2020 Ninja. 2016 was much of euphoria for tourism industry. The<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/heres-how-budget-2017-will-be-a-game-changer-intourism-industry/articleshow/56628238.cms"> tourism ministry</a> got 70 % hike in the budget with an allocation of Rs 1,590 crore, to focus on infrastructure development and promotion and publicity initiatives. But in a knee jerk reaction to <keyword id="6354642" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="modi">Modi</keyword>'s demonetization move in November last year, the industry has been left with no choice but to make losses. In the last few years, the tourism in India has witnessed a major boom. In comparison to inbound travel, India has seen a major growth in the outbound sector, thanks to the disposable income of the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/heres-how-budget-2017-will-be-a-game-changer-intourism-industry/articleshow/56628238.cms">millenials</a>. Here are a few reasons, why India’s tourism hasn’t achieved much in comparison to <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/heres-how-budget-2017-will-be-a-game-changer-intourism-industry/articleshow/56628238.cms">China</a>. Infrastructure While domestic<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/heres-how-budget-2017-will-be-a-game-changer-intourism-industry/articleshow/56628238.cms"> travellers</a> have quadrupled, Indian tourism didn’t see much development in its infrastructure. While roads may have become better, and a lot of online travel portals have born, what went missing is a massive blue print of infrastructure to take India’s tourism to a new high. In India there has hardly been any addition to new hotels. Compare this to China and you would be surprised to find <keyword id="1333" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="beijing">Beijing</keyword> has as many star-category hotel rooms as all of India. India till 2015 has just a little over 100,000 star rated hotel rooms, compared to Beijing’s 130,000 alone. Also lack of supply of hotel rooms has aggravated the demand thereby making the travel in India far expensive in India. The rooms that cost $400 a night in Delhi or Mumbai would cost hardly $100 dollars in most part of China.

 Market size Another primary reason for China’s growth in tourism market is its size. China is far larger than our country, packed with tonnes of tourist attractions. Also many foreign visitors coming to India prefer cultural and natural destinations and tend to stay away from the cities. However in China, cities are also major draws. Expenses Tax disparity in independent travel purchase is a major flaw in Indian travel ecosystem. There are just too many taxes, which makes travel expensive. Communication The quality of transportation infrastructure in China is light-years ahead of India, there's simply no comparison, according to a <keyword id="274437" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Quora">Quora</keyword> post. It is far easier and more comfortable for tourists to get around China than it is for them to get around India. China's air, rail, and road networks are all faster, safer, and more modern than India's.

 Safety and security India has witnessed countless instances of pickpockets, burglary, sexual assaults and scams against foreign tourists. There are tourist traps as well that make the country unsafe for travellers. Visits to India by female tourists dropped 35 percent in 2015 compared with the same period a year ago, according to the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/heres-how-budget-2017-will-be-a-game-changer-intourism-industry/articleshow/56628238.cms">Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India</a>. There is very little for travellers to worry about in China. Violent crime and rape are almost unheard of. You can walk down dark city streets at night in China and have nothing to worry about. Here are the suggestions of industry experts to make tourism in India at par with China: Sharat Dhall, COO (B2C), Yatra.com, an online travel agency and a travel search engine: “The Indian tourism industry is growing at a rapid pace, fuelled by a growing domestic middle class with increasing disposable incomes. In addition, the inbound market is growing at a steady pace as well. However, in comparison to other comparable countries, India still has a long way to go in terms of fulfilling its potential as a tourism destination. The Government has rightly identified Tourism as a pillar of growth in the economy and with improved road infrastructure, regional air connectivity and better budget accommodation, we expect that we will unlock this sector and improve our share of the global tourism market. The Chinese tourism industry &amp; OTAs have benefited from country’s economic development and we believe that India’s tourism sector and online travel market is poised for continued growth and value creation as the economy grows, following the well-established path seen in the US and China.” <keyword id="2049459" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="amitabh-misra">Amitabh Misra</keyword>, Founder of GoFro.com, an online travel marketplace for leisure travel: If we compare the global travel scenario, almost 30-40% population in <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/heres-how-budget-2017-will-be-a-game-changer-intourism-industry/articleshow/56628238.cms">US and Europe</a> go for leisure travel every year, where as in China the number is around 8% and in India it’s still less than 1% of the total population, making it a market with huge growth potential. Having said that one of the major concern is increase in tax disparity in independent travel purchase viz-a-viz holiday packages; for example, the consumer has to pay the tax on flight tickets, now if its combined with a holiday package, they will also have to pay tax on the overall package as well, thus travel is getting costlier for the consumer. We are expecting the 2017 budget to adopt a lenient tax structure which further promote the tourism industry. With government working towards improving country’s infrastructure and enabling tech support at various section will also lead to faster growth of inbound tourism. Additional incentives should be provided for infrastructure investments in the travel and tourism sector to accelerate growth. A lower tax rate for hospitality business and the lower rate of interest for real-estate development will ensure opening up of more supply for the nascent branded budget hospitality sector. This will be in line with supporting small owner-friendly policies, such as the exemption of service tax in the sub-Rs. 1000 hotel room category.”
