 OYO Workspaces is the coworking vertical of the hospitality unicorn launched OYO. The business was launched after it acquired Innov8 for $30 million in July 2019. Innov8 was founded by Dr Ritesh Malik, and has a strong presence of 13 centers. It has over 200 clientele, with a seat occupancy for 5,000 coworkers throughout its centres.

And co-working spaces is its best performer. According to a report by Edelweiss, demand for office spaces in 2019 grew by 128% from last year. This is aided by growth in the IT sector, along with rising number of global companies setting up shop in India. Bengaluru is now the top market in Asia for technology occupiers. The report further said that co-working space’s share in overall leasing rose from 10% to 13% during the calendar year 2019. Co-working spaces in India have been growing fast with over 400 centres across India by 200 players. Real estate consultant firm Anarock expects the number to jump by two-three times in the next two years. “Co-working centres are about 15-25% cost efficient for startups and firms as they save money in office rentals, property maintenance and fixed capital investments. Anarock expects total space occupied by co-working spaces to rise by at least 30-40% per annum,” said the report. In India, co-working spaces opened up in almost every other corner of big cities and are now also entering Tier 2 and 3 cities. They have found favour with entrepreneurs mainly for convenience, affordability, and a place to network and become a part of a community, without having to invest in real estate. According to a report by property consultant Knight Frank, as of 2018 there were about 200 co-working spaces in India, with the likes of <keyword id="2918346" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="WeWork">WeWork</keyword>, Regus, Awfis etc., being the most popular. New Delhi, Feb 27 () Shared economy in India is poised to become a USD 2 billion industry by the end of the year, a report by Maple Capital Advisors said on Thursday. Also, such services attracted about USD 3.5 billion worth of private equity, and USD 262 million in mergers and acquisitions (M&amp;A) between 2015-19, the report titled 'Shared Economy - India Story' said. The sector, predominantly driven by shared mobility, co-working, co-living and furniture rentals, is pegged to be an about USD 2 billion industry in the organised-end and growing in double digits, it said. In 2019, the segment was estimated to be about USD 1.5 billion in size in India. Shared economy includes segments like co-working (Awfis, WeWork India), co-living (Stanza Living, OYO Life, Oxford Caps), shared mobility (Uber, Ola, Shuttl) and furniture rental (Furlenco, Rentomojo.) "High mobile penetration, high millennial concentration, and an aspirational population, Asia has highest willingness to use shared assets. India mirrors Asia trends in these aspects and is thus, poised for high growth and adoption of shared services," it added. Maple Capital Advisors Managing Director Pankaj Karna said India is at the cusp of a shared economy revolution. "We are already witnessing phenomenal growth in this segment with both international companies and home-grown start-ups vying for market share. Even as the space is nascent over USD 3.7 billion has been invested in this space," he said. Karna added that this is expected to accelerate on the back of compelling demand and unit economics. Even in this crowded segment, Awfis is growing fast. It has also managed to clock in profits within two years of operations. It recently raised Series D funding of $30 million from marquee investor ChrysCapital with participation from existing investors like Sequoia India &amp; The Three Sisters: Institutional Office. With this latest funding, Awfis plans to bring out new tech-driven innovative products and foray into Tier II markets like Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Bhubaneshwar, Kochi and Indore. It is already present in Chandigarh. Exponential growth Awfis also achieved a rare feat for a startup, which is profitability within two years. In the very first year of operations in FY16, its revenues was at ₹1 crore. In the very next year, the number touched ₹18 crore. In the next, its exponential growth swelled it to ₹56 crore. In the current financial year, it expects it to more than double it. “We have been growing three times every year, despite also adding seats and increasing our size,” Amit Ramani, CEO of Awfis told Business Insider India. Profitability has always been core to its strategy. “We were deeply invested in the unit economics of each centre and were very careful not to overbuild the capacity of our staff or go overboard on marketing,” he said. Ramani said that they now aim to expand to 200,000 seats by 2022. Currently, they have 30,000 seats across 63 centres in 10 cities. Not just for startups The company also discovered a new set of clientele. While most co-working spaces tend to target startups, Awfis realised that the Indian SMEs are in need of their services. “While most co-working spaces look at just startups which are 10% of the total requirement of office space, 60-70% of SMEs remain underserved. So, we give SMEs an upgrade while also saving them money,” said Ramani. Ramani said that when he had built the-proof-of-concept for Awfis in April 2015, it had three basic principles – bring flexibility back into real estate, provide accessibility as people’s lives are becoming very mobile and ensure transparency, with all discoverability and bookability being on an app allowing people to book on-the-go. This co-working space achieved profitability in just two years and is now aiming for an IPO

Ltd which is now South Asia’s largest network of collaborative co-working spaces, has received an investment of USD 20 million from <keyword id="563136" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sequoia-India">Sequoia India</keyword>, recently. The funds will be used to grow its network of centers, launch new and innovative products/services and further enhance the existing technology platform. News Corp-backed real estate classifieds portal <keyword id="1960231" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Housing-com">Housing.com</keyword> on Monday announced its entry in co-living segment, and has tied up with <keyword id="2808667" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="OYO">OYO</keyword> and <keyword id="2366577" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="zolo">Zolo</keyword> as well as unorganised players for listing around 5 lakh beds on its platform. Housing.com, part of Singapore-based Elara Technologies that also owns PropTiger.com and Makaan, also released a report on co-living which highlighted that the market size of this segment is estimated to double at Rs 2 lakh crore by 2023. "We are entering into co-living segment which is a big growth area. We have launched an exclusive section for co-living on our Housing.com. As of now, it will work as search and discovery platform, but direct bookings on our platform will be enabled later," Housing.com CEO Dhruv Agarwala told reporters here. 
 Housing.com, which is also backed by Softbank, Accel and SAIF Partners, has tied up with OYO Life and Zolo to promote their co-living spaces on its platform. 
 At present, the classifieds platform has around 5 lakh beds across major cities -- Delhi-NCR, Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru, Pune, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad and Chandigarh, Agarwala said . 
 Out of the 5 lakh beds, around 50,000 beds are from OYO and Zolo. 
 "We plan to scale up this listing to a million beds by the end of 2020," he said. 
 Asked about revenue model, Agarwala said it could be through advertising and the co-living segment would become a significant revenue generator for Housing.com in coming years. 
 "The way in which the concept of co-working is changing how traditional commercial work spaces operate in India, co-living is transforming traditional renting. The change is driven by a highly mobile millennial workforce and a growing student population with a new mindset," Agarwala said. 
 Recently, US-based News Corp and its Australian group firm REA made fresh investment of around USD 70 million (Rs 500 crore) in Elara Technologies, sources had said. 
 With this fresh funding, Elara has raised USD 175 million (about Rs 1,250 crore) so far from investors.
 Elara Technologies first set up PropTiger.com in 2011 and then acquired Makaan.com in May 2015.
 In a major consolidation in the Indian online real estate business, Elara acquired Housing.com in January 2017, a start-up founded in 2012 by around a dozen IIT graduates.
 While PropTiger helps developers in selling flats available in the primary market, Makaan.com largely deals in buy-sell of re-sale properties.
 Housing.com is a classified platform for developers, brokers and homeowners with over one million listings.

Here is how the upcoming budget might affect startups: 
 
• Lower holding period for long-term capital gains The primary matter of concern for startups in India has been <keyword id="6383566" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Taxation">taxation</keyword>. 
The DIPP has proposed that the period for long-term capital gains for unlisted securities should be reduced from the current limit of 24 months which can lead to higher investments. 
 
• Taxation of ESOPs during sale 
The DIPP has proposed that the employee stock option plans (ESOPs) for startups should be taxed at the time of sale of these stocks. Larger startups can now rejoice since this would provide them with transparency from a valuation perspective as well as further boost their liquidity from a tax outflow perspective. 
 
• Tax holiday period 
The tax concession period currently spans three years and there is a demand to increase this to between five and seven. If this demand is accepted then it could mean that there will be a huge increase in a number of start-ups.

The budget should aggressively focus on innovation-led businesses and some encouraging fiscal policies to make provisions to enable India to improve its Ease of Doing Business ranking by encouraging investments in startups.

The space itself buzzes with life, as most guests sit together for coffee or a round of board games. The rooms are spacious,comfortable and stylish but the lobby, cafe and the rooftop keep calling out to you. The space consists of Mixed &amp; Female exclusive dorms and private rooms starting at Rs. 850 a night and going up to Rs. 5000 for a dorm-style private room for six people. Let’sBunk is also trying the Co-Working space model where they use their living room area as a workspace for freelancers and startup owners that can add to the concept. As the seats are limited, Munjal says that they ensure that they ensure that most people who work at Let’sBunk are working in the travel industry to facilitate the guest experiences. The Coworking package starts at Rs. 7000 per month which includes coupons for complimentary breakfast, access to events, discounts on hosting events, access to yoga workshops, printing facility et al. While e-commerce giant Flipkart jumped to the first position from second last year, several other homegrown giants — Zomato, Swiggy and Freshworks — featured prominently among the top 25 companies preferred by Indian professionals.. Given that more millennials and even GenZ are now joining the workforce, Indian companies appear to be paying increasing attention to work culture in addition to offering better wages and exposure to the most sought-after skills. The report analysed over 610 million LinkedIn members, gauging job seekers’ interest in the company, employee engagement, job demands, and employee retention. Flipkart (Walmart) Walmart-owned e-commerce company Flipkart gave rise to many millionaires after its acquisition. The e-commerce giant, which has a headcount of over 13,000 employees in India, has been ranked first by job seekers. In fact, according to a <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/in-india-flipkart-tops-the-fairness-quotient-for-gig-economy-workers-report/articleshow/68593359.cms">recent report on gig economy platforms</a>, in terms of working conditions, Flipkart topped the charts. 2. Amazon Even as the new e-commerce norms come into effect in India, global retail giant Amazon, has still been on a hiring spree in India with nearly 1,950 job postings, as on April 2. Presently, the company has 50,000 employees in India. It competes neck and neck with rival Flipkart, and has recently made a foray into offline segment as well, setting up <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/amazon-plans-to-open-over-100-kiosks-across-malls-in-india-report/articleshow/68579967.cms">kiosks in malls</a>. 3. OYO Hotel chain Oyo has been diversifying beyond its flagship hospitality business. Its latest acquisition of Innov8 mark its entry into the food market and co-working space. The company is also in talks to acquire FreshMenu. As a long term goal, the hotel chain is aiming to overtake Marriott, five years down the line. It has 7,000 employees in India, according to LinkedIn. 4. One97 Communications (Paytm) One97 Communications, the parent company of Paytm, ranks fourth on the list. It boasts of flexible and informal work culture, and has apparently removed restrictions on blocking calendars, encouraging impromptu meetings. 5. Uber With a more sustainable approach, Uber aims to put 1 million green cars on Indian roads by 2022.The ride-hailing firm Uber has a headcount of 1,700 employees. The company is reportedly planning to double the new hires in the products and engineering domain. 6. Swiggy Food aggregator Swiggy, a recent entrant to India’s unicorn club, has been hiring in the areas of sales, operations and business development. The company, which has 6,000 people onboard in India presently, is also reportedly planning to <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/swiggy-in-talks-to-acquire-ubereats-india-operations/articleshow/68110377.cms">diversify</a>. 7. Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) India’s largest IT services company, TCS, has grown four-fold since 2007. The company has been increasingly hiring fresh graduates via <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/wipro-campus-placements-to-double/articleshow/67719782.cms">campus placements</a>, and added nearly 27,000 employees last year. 8. Zomato The food-tech unicorn, which claims to cater nearly 21 million monthly orders, is also a top employer. Alphabet (Google) Alphabet, the parent company of Google, has gravitated back to elite campus hires after two consecutive non-hiring years. The company is reportedly actively looking for engineering, machine learning, algorithms and media &amp; communication candidates. 10. Reliance Industries With Jio sweeping the Internet market and disrupting the telecom space in India, Reliance Industries has claimed the 10th position. Among its employee perks is a 24*7 assistance to an employee’s family in case of emergencies like road accidents and fire. 11. EY The company has a strength of 42,000 in India. Focussing on digital transformation, the company plans to hire 2,000 new professionals across AI, blockchain and analytics domain. 12. Adobe To keep its employees happy, the company lets its employees set aside 25% of their earned salary for stock purchase at discounted rates twice in a year. 13. <keyword id="136162" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Boston-Consulting-Group">Boston Consulting Group</keyword> (BCG) With more people interested in offshore placements, this comes as a benefit to its employees, the company offers over 25% to work outside their native country at least once a year. IBM The company has a headcount of over 100,000 in India with maximum hires taking place in the engineering, Information Technology and Consulting domain. The company is also considering cascading style sheets (CSS), HTML, jQuery skills. 16. Daimler AG Breaking the monotony, the automotive company plans to come up with 52 new products in 2019. The fastest-growing skills in the company are MySQL, Javascript and Python. 17. Freshworks Here’s a company that has an eye for alternate talent at work. The company, for instance, is open for engineering hires who are social or full time musicians. Most of the new hires in the company have been from sales, engineering and product management. 18. ICICI Bank Breaking the stereotypes, India’s second largest private bank looks to cut hierarchy system to boost accountability and efficiency in the bank. Digital marketing and engineering have emerged as top skills. 21. PwC India Management consulting firm, PwC India, the company welcomes employees from not just accounts and taxation background but diverse fields such as journalists, environmentalists and design thinkers among others. 22. KPMG India One of the largest accounting firms in India, KPMG has been offering overseas assignments to nearly 3,000 employees across 100 countries in order to keep the attrition rate minimum. Accounting and consulting have been the most in-demand skills for the company while looking to hire new talent. 23. Larsen &amp; Toubro Keeping the right gender balance, the engineering conglomerate claims to have male female remuneration ratio at 1:1. The construction company has also been hiring skills such as Python coding and financial services. 24. Oracle India is Oracle’s sixth largest market in data management space. The company is looking to hire IT and engineering skills, as it plans to open its first data centre in India. 25.
