Pune-based climate-tech startup <keyword id="2608223" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ecozen" source="Orion">Ecozen</keyword> on Tuesday raised $25 million in equity and debt capital in its Series C round, as it looks beyond agriculture to expand into new deep-tech fields worldwide. The platform estimated that the market size for its sustainability-focused technology stacks in India to grow to $25 billion by 2025. The Series C equity portion was led by Nuveen and Dare Ventures (Coromandel International), with participation from the Export-Import Bank of India (India EXIM Bank), and existing investors Caspian and Hivos-Triodos Fonds (managed by <keyword id="14348026" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="triodos-investment" source="Orion">Triodos Investment</keyword> Management). The debt portion was provided by Maanaveeya Development and Finance, <keyword id="12778882" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="oxyzo" source="Orion">Oxyzo</keyword>, <keyword id="7156261" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="northern-arc" source="Orion">Northern Arc</keyword> group, HDFC Bank and Axis Bank. The company has helped generate over 1 billion units of clean energy (kWh), saved over 20,000 metric tonnes of food loss and reduced over 1 million tonnes of GHG emissions. "As we expand beyond India and agriculture, we will continue to focus on profitable growth and sustainable technology solutions. Ecozen will aggressively expand production capacity and product range," said Devendra Gupta, CEO and Co-Founder at Ecozen. Ecozen said it has revolutionised cold chains (through its Ecofrost product line) and the irrigation industry (through its Ecotron product line), improving the incomes of 120,000 farmers and helping decarbonize agriculture. It will now leverage Nuveen's experience in scaling impact-oriented businesses to augment its commercial offering, and the funding from India Exim Bank will support the Company towards its export-related activities. The company is looking beyond the agricultural sector to accelerate the broader energy transition through its deeptech expertise in energy storage, motor controls, IoT and analytics. Climate tech platform Ecozen raises $25 million to expand beyond agriculture

A unicorn, in startup parlance, is a company valued at or over a billion dollars. Oxyzo Financial Services’s Series A round was led by Alpha Wave. Tiger Global, Norwest Venture Partners, Matrix Partners and Creation Investments also co-led the round. This is the first external round raised by Oxyzo, which was initially started as OfBusiness’ financing platform and was later made into a separate entity. This is not only the largest Series A round ever for an Indian startup, but Oxyzo has also become the first startup to turn into a unicorn at a Series A round itself. More unicorns focused on profitability now than just burning cash as funding winter sets in

Advanced technology battery start-up Log9 Material on Monday said it has raised USD 40 million (nearly Rs 325 crore) in Series B funding led by <keyword id="124764" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="amara-raja-batteries" source="Orion">Amara Raja Batteries</keyword> Ltd and <keyword id="12272190" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="petronas-ventures" source="Orion">Petronas Ventures</keyword>. The round was also participated by other investors, including Incred Financial Services, Unity Small Finance Bank, Oxyzo Financial Services and Western Capital Advisors. "The recent round of investments will allow us to grow our battery manufacturing capabilities to a 2 GWH capacity by the end of 2024," Log9 Material Founder and CEO <keyword id="6381441" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="akshay" source="Orion">Akshay</keyword> Singhal said in a statement. He further said it will also help the company to commission its first fully integrated Lithium Ion Cell production line. "Furthermore, over Rs 100 crore will be invested towards advancements in cell and battery technology stacks," Singhal added. Log9 said it also plans to invest a part of the raised funds into "budding start-ups and organisations that are solving challenges related to charging infrastructure, technology ancillaries and companies fighting climate change at large". Battery start-up Log9 Material raises $40 million Series B funding from Amara Raja, Petronas and others

While Open claims to be the 100th unicorn, a Venture Intelligence report noted that it is the <a href="https://www.ventureintelligence.com/Indian-Unicorn-Tracker.php">96th company</a> to enter the unicorn club. The development comes as Open raised $50 million in its Series D round. IIFL — along with existing investors Temasek, Tiger Global and 3one4 Capital — participated in the round, Open said in a press release. Founded by Anish Achuthan, Ajeesh Achuthan, Mabel Chacko, and Deena Jacob in 2017, Open offers business banking, payments and expense management services to small and medium enterprises (SMEs) across India. The company claims to have over 2.3 million SMEs, which allows it to process transactions over $30 billion annually. Open further claims to add over 100,000 SMEs to its clientele every month, making it the fastest-growing SME-focused neobanking platform globally. The startup competes against the likes of IPO-bound Navi, Nubank, CredAvenue and Oxyzo to name a few. The five-year-old company is now looking to launch three new products — revenue-based financing platform Open Flo, early settlement offering Open Settl and working capital lending company Open Capital. The company plans to disburse loans worth $1 billion in the next 12 months through its Open Capital offering. “We see a lot of synergies with IIFL especially on leveraging the lending book, as we are getting ready to launch innovative products like revenue-based financing, early settlement, working capital loan and business credit cards to SMEs on our platform,” Anish Achuthan, cofounder and chief executive officer (CEO) of Open, said in a press note. It's Open — India now has a century of unicorns

Yet India has still managed to create more unicorns in the first five months of 2022 compared to the year before. According to a recent report by market intelligence provider Tracxn, 14 Indian companies turned unicorns — companies valued over a billion dollars — between January and June 1, 2022. Last year, the number stood at 13 during the same time frame. Notably, 2021 was the best year for Indian startups especially in terms of unicorn creation. Forty four companies hit this milestone in 2021, representing a four-fold increase from the 11 unicorns created in 2020. India currently ranks third in overall unicorns created, with the US taking the lead. India created 14 unicorns in the first half of 2022 — before funding slowdown hit them

OfBusiness -- a platform, which helps the country’s small and medium businesses (SMEs) in getting raw materials -- has raised $160 million in funding led by Japanese investor <keyword id="163404" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Softbank">SoftBank</keyword>. As per the company’s press note, OfBusiness was valued at more than $1.5 billion. A unicorn, in startup lingo, is a private firm valued at or more than a billion dollars. Apart from helping SMEs to source raw materials, the business-to-business (B2B) startup also gives credit of up to ₹2 crore to these small and medium scale entrepreneurs. This is done through its non-banking financial company (NBFC) platform Oxyzo Financial Services. Other than SoftBank, its existing investors Matrix Partners India and Falcon Edge Capital also put in money in this round of funding, as per the press statement. Asish Mohapatra, chief executive and cofounder of the startup said OfBusiness will gain from SoftBank’s “muscle across capital and international markets.” In April this year, OfBusiness <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/business/startups/news/sme-financing-platform-ofbusiness-raises-110-million-from-falcon-edge-capital-valuation-hits-800-million/articleshow/81962626.cms">had raised $110 million</a> led by Falcon Edge Capital. OfBusiness, a platform that helps SMEs get raw materials, becomes the newest unicorn from India

It also runs a cash flow-based financing business for buying raw materials through its <keyword id="6355260" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="NBFC">NBFC</keyword> platform Oxyzo Financial Services. The sector had seen another startup Infra.Market turn unicorn in February, this year. OfBusiness, which was founded in 2015, was also ranked 17 in <keyword id="35662" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="financial-times">Financial Times</keyword>’ top 500 high growth companies in APAC in April 2020. SME financing platform OfBusiness raises $110 million from Falcon Edge Capital – valuation hits $800 million

The company was valued at $1.5 billion in July, when it raised $160 million from SoftBank, Falcon Edge and Matrix Partners. Softbank, along with Falcon Edge-managed Alpha Wave Incubation, also participated in the latest round with an infusion of $43 million. New York-based Tiger Global — which is also an investor in other business-to-business (B2B) marketplaces Infra.Market and Moglix — has infused $150 million in the New Delhi-based startup. It focuses on online sale of manufacturing material. What is OfBusiness up to? Founded by Asish Mohapatra, Bhuvan Gupta, Vasant Sridhar, Ruchi Kalra and Nitin Jain in 2015, the New Delhi-based startup is a tech-enabled platform that enables small and medium enterprises (SMEs) with procurement of raw materials and credits. It has a separate entity, NBFC Oxyzo Financial Services, to offer financing solutions to SMEs. This entity has a loan book of $240 million, with 5,000 borrowers to the list. The company claims to be at an annual revenue run-rate of $1.4 billion. It further plans to increase this with expansion of its operations and acquisition of other businesses, Mohapatra <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/tech/funding/ofbusiness-valuation-doubles-to-3-billion-after-tiger-global-led-funding/articleshow/86645251.cms">told</a> The Economic Times. It claims to be underway to close several such acquisitions. The company competes with platforms like Moglix, Infra.Market, Zetwerks and others on the B2B ecommerce business fronts. In SME lending, it is competing with other platforms like BharatPe, LendingKart, Aye Finance and many others. OfBusiness, along with its B2B ecommerce rivals mentioned above, are among the 28 startups that entered the unicorn club this year, with a valuation of over $1 billion.
