New Delhi, July 2 () Public sector Indian Overseas Bank (IOB) on Thursday said its managing director and chief executive Karnam Sekar retired on June 30. <p> The lender in a regulatory filing said "Karnam Sekar has demitted office as MD &amp; CEO of the bank on June 30, 2020, being the date of his superannuation". </p><p> Karnam had joined the bank as an OSD (officer on special duty) and whole-time director on April 1, 2019 and was elevated as MD and CEO on July 1, 2019 after the retirement of Subramaniam Kumar. </p><p>Sekar was appointed as OSD of IOB after merger of Dena Bank and Vijaya Bank into Bank of Baroda.  </p><p>He was MD and CEO of Dena Bank since September 21, 2018.  </p><p>Prior to that, he was deputy managing director and chief credit officer in State Bank of India, heading its Highest Credit Committee.  </p><p>In SBI, he was also responsible for formulating loan policy of the bank. </p><p>Sekar had joined State Bank of India as Probationary officer in December 1983.  </p>IOB posted a standlaone net profit of Rs 143.79 crore in the last quarter of fiscal ended March 2020, as it was able to bring down its bad loan proportion significantly. The week-long pre-budget consultation meetings for budget 2023-24 chaired by Union <keyword id="25455" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="finance" source="Orion">Finance</keyword> and Corporate Affairs Minister <keyword id="129243" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="nirmala-sitharaman" source="Orion">Nirmala Sitharaman</keyword> concluded on Monday. <br /><br /> The meeting was held in virtual mode between November 21 and 28. <br /><br /> According to the Ministry of Finance, more than 110 invitees representing seven stakeholder groups participated in eight meetings scheduled during this period. The stakeholder groups include representatives and experts from the agriculture and agro-processing industry; industry, infrastructure and climate change; financial sector and capital markets; services and trade; social sector; trade unions and labour organisations and economists.<br /><br /> Union Ministers of State for Finance <keyword id="2528510" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="pankaj-chaudhary" source="Orion">Pankaj Chaudhary</keyword> and Bhagwat Kishanrao Karad, Finance Secretary TV Somanathan; Secretary, DEA, Ajay Seth; Chief Economic Advisor V Anantha Nageswaran; Secretary, DIPAM, Tuhin Kanta Pandey; Secretary, Financial Services, Vivek Joshi; Secretary, Corporate Affairs, Manoj Govil; <keyword id="299369" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="osd" source="Orion">OSD</keyword>, Revenue, <keyword id="301743" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="sanjay-malhotra" source="Orion">Sanjay Malhotra</keyword>, and senior officers from Ministry of Finance were also present during the meetings. FM concludes week-long consultation meetings for Budget 2023-24

This time, Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government is going to break away from the usual norm and do something different.<br />
<br /> For the first time, the Indian government is going to choose the next Director General of the country's aviation regulator, <keyword id="6354705" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Directorate-General-of-Civil-Aviation">Directorate General of Civil Aviation</keyword> (<keyword id="6354787" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="DGCA">DGCA</keyword>), through an interview process.<br />

Presently, the DGs are selected based on their eligibility and credentials, who are shortlisted from a bunch of resumes.<br />
<br />
As per reports, all four joint DGs have been called for an interview.<br />
<br />
"However, interviewing joint DGs does not guarantee that the government would select someone as DG from within the organisation,” an official told ET.<br />
<br />
The DGCA is running without a DG since August when M Sathiyavathy left the post after she was appointed as OSD to the Ministry of Labour &amp; Employment.<br />
<br />
The post is being handled by BS Bhullar, additional secretary in the aviation ministry.<br />
<br /> "The government should select someone who makes DGCA work as an independent body and support the growth of the aviation industry. I would like the government decide on whether he should be a technocrat or generalist, but the person selected for the post should be a senior person,” Shakti Lumba, an aviation analyst who previously headed operations at <keyword id="2573" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Air-India">Air India</keyword> and IndiGo, told ET.<br />

"Over the years, DGCA, rather than becoming an independent regulator, has become an extension of the civil aviation ministry,” Lumba told ET.<br />
<br />
The government has changed recruitment rules for the DGCA chief and now officials from all central government services can apply for the post.

Allergan's generic drug unit would be "spun off and combined with Teva," The Journal says.</p><p>Before news of the potential Teva-Allergan link-up, Teva had been <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/mylan-rejects-teva-buyout-offer-2015-4">unsuccessfully pursuing</a> another merger with generic drug-maker, Mylan Pharmaceuticals.</p><p>Teva's primary motivation for the Allergan deal is to increase its position in generic, WSJ reports, because the margins for low-priced drugs are "razor thin."</p><p>It's another in what has been <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/here-comes-another-mega-merger-aetna-and-humana-are-reportedly-close-to-a-multi-billion-deal-2015-7">a flurry of health care and biotech mergers</a> since the Supreme Court last month handed down a key ruling on the Affordable Care Act (ACA) that effectively ensured its continued existence in the near term.</p><p>But, despite the high court's ruling last month, the mergers also signal a pushback by health care giants aiming to remain competitive in the marketplace. President Barack Obama has said one of the goals of the ACA - better known as Obamacare - was to ensure increased competition that would, ideally, offer more choices for consumers and keep costs low.</p><p>During a forum on health care mergers at Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, health care management professor Mark Pauly said the increased M&amp;A activity could be broken down as a two-pronged initiative. Pauly says on one hand, it's "<a href="http://knowledge.wharton.upenn.edu/article/whats-driving-health-insurers-merger-mania/">a kind of counterattack on the part of insurers</a>," who may seek to reduce the number of competitors and avoid being "stabbed in the back" by rivals who could try to undercut them on prices.</p><p>On the other hand, Pauly says, Obamacare contains provisions specific to Medicare that affect so-called "provider-side" entities known as accountable care organizations (ACOs). Here comes another big health care merger

<p>The sandwich, which is re-launching on April 21, contains slabs of <span>bacon, two slices of melted cheese and the Colonel's "Secret Sauce." </span></p>
<p><span>The whole thing is</span> contained by two pieces of fried chicken, instead of a bun.</p>
<p>The Double Down debuted for a limited time in 2010 and immediately became a target for late-night comedy. </p>
<p><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">"This is deep-fried madness," Colbert Report host Stephen Colbert <a href="http://eater.com/archives/2010/04/14/stephen-colbert-kfc-double-down.php">said of the sandwich</a> when it launched. "This is breaded insanity. It is a sandwich that lacks all sandwich-ness. It's like an edible Hieronymus Bosch painting wrapped in a paper straitjacket. If a sandwich has no buns, can it truly be called a sandwich?"</span></p>
<p>The recipe from 2010 had 540 calories and 32 grams of fat, according to <a href="http://consumerist.com/2010/04/20/10-fast-food-items-worse-for-you-than-the-kfc-double-down/">The Consumerist</a>.</p>
<p>The Internet seems to be pretty psyched that the sandwich is making a comeback. </p>
