<ul class="summary-list"><li><keyword id="9937424" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="oracle-stock">Oracle stock</keyword> dropped on Wednesday after the company's fourth-quarter earnings release.</li><li><keyword id="43340" type="CITY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Oracle">Oracle</keyword> posted muted guidance and weaker than expected cloud sales growth in the quarter.</li><li>Despite the fall in the share price, the company did beat both top and bottom line analyst estimates.</li></ul>Shares of <a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/stocks/orcl-stock">Oracle</a> slipped on Wednesday after the company revealed muted guidance and weaker than expected cloud sales growth in its fourth-quarter 2021 report.The Austin, Texas-based tech giant did manage to beat both top and bottom line analyst estimates in its most recent quarter. Adjusted earnings per share rose to $1.54 compared to analyst estimates for $1.31 per share, while revenues hit $11.23 billion, an 8% year-over-year jump, topping analyst estimates of $11.04 billion.Weak guidance that shows a slower than expected growth rate is hurting shares on Wednesday, however.CEO Safra Catz said the company expects $0.94 to $0.98 in adjusted earnings per share and 3% to 5% revenue growth in the fiscal first quarter of 2022.Oracle's all-important cloud services and license support segment generated $7.39 billion in revenue in the fourth quarter, but the 4% jump on a constant currency basis was less than investors had hoped for.The company also guided for cloud service and license support revenue growth for the first quarter to stay the same at 4%.Wedbush's managing director of equity research, <keyword id="2200859" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Dan-Ives">Dan Ives</keyword>, told Insider via email that "cloud growth is the key to the story and it was underwhelming."Ives believes Oracle is "losing the cloud war" to competitors Microsoft and Amazon and said guidance for the quarter was "nothing to write home about."Analysts at Barclays also aren't keen on Oracle's growth prospects after a run-up in share prices over the past year.In May, Barclays lowered its rating on the company to a hold equivalent, arguing a "growth acceleration" is needed for any further outperformance, <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2021/06/15/oracle-orcl-earnings-q4-2021.html">per CNBC</a>.Oracle stock traded down 6.56% as of 10:36 a.m. ET on Wednesday.<div type="image" title="Oracle Stock Chart" height="652" width="826" msid="83577337" hostid="261"></div>

Oracle slips after revealing muted guidance and weak cloud sales growth

<ul class="summary-list"><li><keyword id="43340" type="CITY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Oracle">Oracle</keyword> posted revenue of $10.09 billion for the third quarter, representing just 3% revenue growth.</li><li>The company also gave a muted outlook despite cloud revenues continuing to grow.</li><li>Analyst <keyword id="2200859" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Dan-Ives">Dan Ives</keyword> at Wedbush said Oracle is "trailing" in the cloud arms race.</li></ul>Shares of <a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/stocks/orcl-stock">Oracle</a> sank on Thursday after the company posted disappointing sales growth and revenue guidance in its third-quarter fiscal year 2021 earnings report.Oracle did manage to narrowly beat analysts' earnings forecasts for the quarter, posting earnings per share of $1.16.However, revenue increased just 3% to hit $10.09 billion, and guidance revealed Oracle expects only 1%-3% sales growth in constant currency next quarter.The Redwood Shores, California-based company has been attempting to slow revenue losses with a move into cloud applications, especially those for managing corporate finance.Cloud services and license support revenue was up 5% year-over-year in the third quarter but fell short of estimates at $7.25 billion vs. $7.28 billion. Cloud license and on-premise license services managed a small beat, hitting $1.28 billion in revenue compared to analyst expectations for $1.21 billion.The company's Fusion ERP application for managing corporate finance saw its revenue jump 30% in the third quarter, but the growth rate fell from the 33% reported in the fiscal second quarter.Netsuite's ERP software, which is targeted at small and mid-sized businesses, rose 24% in the third quarter as well.Oracle CEO, Safra Catz said the company "continued to extend our huge lead in the cloud ERP market" after the performance.Executive Chairman Larry Ellison spent much of the <a href="https://investor.oracle.com/events-and-presentations/default.aspx">quarterly conference call</a> discussing his company's recent gains in the cloud sector as well. The Chairman said more than 100 customers have made the switch to Oracle's services from rival <a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/stocks/sap-stock">SAP SE</a>."Once again in Q3, Oracle's Gen2 Cloud Infrastructure business added customers, and grew revenue at a rate in excess of 100%," said Larry Ellison, Oracle Chairman and CTO. "Oracle signed contracts totaling hundreds of millions of dollars to migrate several more large companies from SAP ERP to Oracle Fusion ERP."Analyst Dan Ives at Wedbush told Insider via email that he believes Oracle is "late to the game on cloud" and says that "it's been a headwind to growth."Ives said despite recent cloud wins, Oracle is still "trailing Amazon and Microsoft in the cloud arms race."Oracle also declared a quarterly dividend of $0.32 per share on March 10, marking a 33.3% increase from the prior dividend of $0.24 per share.And the board of Directors increased the authorization for share repurchases by $20B.Shares of Oracle traded down 7.04% as of 1:16 p.m ET on Thursday.<div type="image" title="ORCL chart 3" height="681" width="834" msid="81455316" hostid="261"></div>

US trade mixed as traders mull the pace of economic recovery

JonesTrading's Dave Lutz has what traders are chatting about right now:
Good Morning!&#xa0;&#xa0; US Futures are jumping, led by a 1.2% pop in Nasdaq (ORCL/JBL #s, AAPL rebound).&#xa0;&#xa0; This mirrors strength overseas, tailwinds from the Fed committing to low rates, and ECB nearing Asset Purchases.&#xa0;&#xa0; The DAX is up 2% in heavier trade, led by Discretionary and Tech - while the only market red is Greece as elections yesterday were a "Sell the News".&#xa0;&#xa0; The Energy covering we saw yesterday was global, as Dubai jumped 13%, the most on record, Saudi was up 8.6%, and Abu Dhabi jumped almost 7%.&#xa0;&#xa0;&#xa0; Over in Asia, Sentiment stronger in Russia as the Micex climbs 6% (Ruble Stable, Putin Presser), and the Nikkei jumped 2.3% as the Yen fell and Sony jumped 5% after cancelling the release of "The Interview."&#xa0;&#xa0; Shanghai underperformed as Housing Prices fell again, the 3rd straight annual decline, while Aussie climbed 1% as Miners popped despite a fresh overnight low in Ore prices. 
The US 10YY continues to climb, bearing down on 2.19%, while strong demand for Bunds has German Yields basically unchanged.&#xa0;&#xa0; The "Policy Sensitive" 2YY remains near yesterday's highs, helping the Yield Curve steepen, a nice tailwind for Banks.&#xa0;&#xa0;&#xa0; The Euro is weaker, and nearing recent lows, and there was High volatility in Swiss Franc as they introduce negative interest rates to keep their currency lower against Euro.&#xa0;&#xa0;&#xa0;&#xa0; Focus remains on Oil, where another big spike in WTI above $58.50 is failing.&#xa0; Some very wild gaps higher the last 24hours, only to eventually evaporate.&#xa0;&#xa0; &#xa0;WTI was up 4% earlier, up "only" 1.9% now.&#xa0;&#xa0;&#xa0;&#xa0; Gold is climbing 1% and well over $1200 as German Breakevens climb higher, but still show deflation in 5years.&#xa0;&#xa0;&#xa0;&#xa0; Scheduled Catalysts today include Weekly Jobless Claims at 8:30, Markit US Services PMI at 9:45, US Leading Index at 10, and Natty gas Inventory data hits at 10:30.&#xa0;&#xa0; &#xa0;Keep a close eye on the Yen today, we have a major catalyst overnight as the BOJ meets….

What Are Traders Chatting About Right Now? Stocks, Bonds, Gold, Oil ... They're All Up

REUTERS/Brandon Wade/File PhotoSundar Pichai is now CEO of both Google and its parent company Alphabet.<ul><li>Michael Levine, an analyst at Pivotal Research Group, on Monday upgraded <a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/stocks/googl-stock">Alphabet</a> to "buy" from "hold" and increased his price target to $1,650 from $1,445. </li><li>Shares surged nearly 3% to a new record high in early trading Monday. </li><li>"We are incrementally more constructive about what we perceive as multiple ways to get paid under the recently appointed Pichai regime," Levine wrote in a note Monday.</li><li><a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/stocks/googl-stock">Watch Alphabet trade live on Markets Insider</a>.</li></ul>Shares of <a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/stocks/googl-stock">Alphabet</a> rose nearly 3% on Monday to a new record high after Michael Levine, an analyst at Pivotal Research Group, upgraded the stock to "buy" from "hold." Levine also raised his price target to $1,650 from $1,445, roughly 21% higher than where shares of the Google parent company closed trading Friday. The updated price target is now the second-highest on Wall Street after Stephen Ju of Credit Suisse, who has a price target of $1,700 on the equity. "We are incrementally more constructive about what we perceive as multiple ways to get paid under the recently appointed Pichai regime," Levine wrote in a note Monday. He's evaluating the company based on 12.5x its 2021 Ebitda and said that multiple could easily move higher depending on "actions the new regime could, and should, pursue." Sundar Pichai became the CEO of Google and its parent company Alphabet on December 20 following <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/the-life-of-google-ceo-sundar-pichai-in-photos-2017-1">the departures of cofounders Larry Page and Sergey Brin.</a> The change at the top of Alphabet offers "the most optionality for multiple expansion for the stock we have seen in years," Levine wrote. Under Pichai, there's an opportunity for incremental disclosure, a change in guidance philosophy, and a potential to change capital allocation strategies, such as instituting a dividend, Levine wrote. He also highlighted other positive factors at the company, including Thomas Kurian at the helm of Google Cloud. "Our view is that Thomas Kurian's hiring is akin to Kieth block being hired at CRM in 2013 - another multi-decade senior ORCL hire who has <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/google-cloud-ceo-thomas-kurian-analysts-2019-10">radically changed the CRM culture</a> and business for the better," Levine wrote. The journey will likely take time, however, Levine wrote, as Kurian is just getting started, and Amazon and Microsoft have "substantial leads" in cloud over Google. Leadership aside, Levine said that Google's revenue growth from ads is encouraging, making the company "likely the safest and cleanest of the large cap names to own through at least the second-quarter 2020 print in July."Analysts have a consensus price target of $1,455.92 on shares of Alphabet, and 40 "buy" ratings, five "hold" ratings, and zero "sell" ratings, according to Bloomberg data. <div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"></div></div></div>Last week, Morgan Stanley released a report on cloud computing, that evaluated the major players in the cloud (IBM, <a href="http://markets.businessinsider.com/stock/BABA-Quote">BABA</a>, <a href="http://markets.businessinsider.com/stock/ORCL-Quote">ORCL</a>, <a href="http://markets.businessinsider.com/stock/AMZN-Quote">AMZN</a>, <a href="http://markets.businessinsider.com/stock/MSFT-Quote">MSFT</a>, <a href="http://markets.businessinsider.com/stock/GOOGL-Quote">GOOGL</a>, <a href="http://markets.businessinsider.com/stock/SAP-Quote">SAP</a>) by compiling estimates of "revenues, expenses, and capital requirements through 2020 to yield cloud free cash flow."Their findings: IBM has the most upside potential followed by Alibaba.Morgan Stanley thinks IBM's $3 billion public cloud business will grow by 33% from 2016-2020.Additionally, the bank found that IBM's traditional businesses are currently undervalued, trading at 1.7x Enterprise Value/Sales, 10% below the average 5-year ratio. IBM would need EV/Sales to be at 2.1x in order for the metric to be in line with its peers.One of the big stories at IBM has been its loss of revenue as a result of decaying revenue streams from outdated technology. However, the analysts note that they expect those declines to "stabilize as the pool of non-cloud revenues shrinks."Morgan Stanley believes that future catalysts like Watson and blockchain technology will come farther down the road but that they're closer to substantial monetization than some might think. Morgan Stanley raised its price target on IBM to $212.00 from $187.00 and maintained their outperform rating. IBM shares are up 6+% so far this year. MORGAN STANLEY: IBM has the most upside in the cloud

That's been the company's major focus. It has said it wants to hit $10 billion in sales before Salesforce does. That's a tall order. Total Revenues were $8.6 billion, up 2% in U.S. dollars and up 3% in constant currency. Cloud plus On-Premise Software Revenues were $6.8 billion, up 5% in U.S. dollars and up 6% in constant currency. Cloud software as a service (SaaS) and platform as a service (PaaS) revenues were $798 million, up 77% in U.S.dollars and up 79% in constant currency. Total Cloud Revenues, including infrastructure as a service (IaaS), were $969 million, up 59% in U.S. dollars and up 61% in constant currency. Operating Income was $2.6 billion and Operating Margin was 31%. Non-GAAP Operating Income was $3.4 billion and non-GAAP Operating Margin was 39%. Net Income was $1.8 billion while non-GAAP Net Income was $2.3 billion. Earnings Per Share was up 10% to $0.43, while non-GAAP Earnings Per Share was up 4% to $0.55. GAAP and non-GAAP Earnings Per Share was negatively impacted by three factors: 1 cent because of a higher tax rate due to more cloud sales being in the U.S, half of one cent because of borrowing, and 1 cent due to strengthening of the U.S. dollar. Short-term deferred revenues were $9.5 billion, up 4% in U.S. dollars and up 5% in constant currency compared with a year ago. Operating cash flow on a trailing twelve-month basis was $13.7 billion."Our Cloud business plus our On-Premise Software business grew 7% in constant currency in the first quarter, on a non-GAAP basis," said Oracle CEO,Safra Catz. "The overall top-line growth of our two strategic businesses was driven by non-GAAP SaaS and PaaS revenue growing 82% in constant currency, substantially outperforming our guidance. Oracle whiffs on Q1 earnings

And while a sharp rally after a public debut is not uncommon, Zendesk's IPO comes amid a terrible market for cloud and internet stocks. 
Cloud and internet stocks that became momentum darlings for investors, such as FireEye (FEYE) and Workday (WDAY), lost as much as 60% peak-to-trough from February to May.
Even technology stalwarts like Amazon (AMZN) and Google (GOOG) saw their shares drop considerably from late-winter through the spring. 
And Box Inc., which offers cloud storage services, has <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/box-could-delay-its-ipo-report-2014-4">reportedly delayed</a> its own much-anticipated IPO. 
But after the sharp dives that have been seen in these tech issues, Zendesk may be providing investors with a glimmer of hope.
Zendesk's IPO benefitted from what was seen as unaggressive pricing. The $9 share offering price compared to a $12.08 valuation that had been implied in stock options granted to employees on March 12, <a href="http://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1463172/000119312514137878/d665368ds1.htm">according to the company's S-1</a>. 
Zendesk has also steadied the IPO waters after slides following the notable debuts of 'Candy Crush' maker King Digital (KING) and online food ordering service GrubHub (GRUB), which have fallen 15% and 8%, respectively, since their initial offers earlier in the spring.
And while Zendesk has <a href="http://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1463172/000119312514137878/d665368ds1.htm">endured losses</a> in each of its years since inception, investors may also see Zendesk as a potential takeover candidate for a larger tech company looking to bolster its cloud presence, like Microsoft (MSFT) or Oracle (ORCL).

Is the huge rally stalling out?
Dan Greenhaus at BTIG observes:
 We’re increasingly turning our focus towards earnings although first we must get through next week’s central bank meetings and nonfarm payroll report in the U.S. FDX is acting terribly after its report (down 11% since the 15th) and ORCL is down another 3.25% since falling nearly 10% after reporting. What was a relentless march higher for equities has clearly hit a rough patch and to repeat, while we expect higher prices, the near term could be tough as this rally just appears tired.
We're just talking about a few weak stocks and a handful of days of going nowhere. Tired is probably a good way to put it.
And it's not just stocks.
The rally in the Nikkei and the down move in the Japanese <keyword id="76265" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="yen">yen</keyword> had been big parts of the story, but the yen decline has stalled out.
Here's a look at dollar vs. yen. It looked like the dollar was zooming straight to 100 against the yen, but it's weakened a bit, as the yen has strengthened.

This is not a big worrisome development or anything, just a note that some big recent trends have halted outside of the S&amp;P 500, as well.

The Market May Have Hit A Ditch

<div class="KonaFilter image-container float_right"><div class="image">APOracle president Mark Hurd</div></div>Oracle reports its third-quarter earnings on Tuesday and analysts have hopes for a good quarter.
They are expecting 4% growth in revenue over the year-ago quarter, and EPS to be $0.70, up from $0.65.
If the company exceeds these targets, it will be a two-in-a-row beat.
Oracle could really use that. It missed revenue expectations for the prior three quarters in a row, an almost unheard of series of misses for the company as it struggled to stop its hardware business from shrinking.
With revenue soft, Oracle spent most of 2013 in cost-cutting mode. That meant that many Oracle employees didn't get their bonuses, Wall analyst analyst Steve Koenig, of Wedbush said in a <a href="https://equities.wedbush.com/clientsite/Research/ActionAlertFilePreview.asp?UUID=28DEF8EA-BF7B-4E45-8BD2-791D48724F4C&amp;ViewerID=1CE41D7D-B184-45DA-AF98-1334A2E3030F">research note published last week: </a>
"Our checks suggest FY13 bonuses were trimmed or eliminated for many employees across the company , which augurs wells for cost control, but not so much for ORCL's ability to attract and retain talent."
Koenig clarified to Business Insider, "It's anecdotal, but we heard from more employees that they are not getting their fiscal '13 bonuses, which ended [last] May. And it seems that that sort of thing is more frequent than it has been in the past. [This affects] people in marketing, internal development, etc."
The company has been beefing up its revenue numbers with cloud acquisitions. However Koenig says that once those acquisitions get absorbed, Oracle hasn't been making much hay with them.
"Some of the SaaS acquisitions they've done don't look they are generating a whole lot of growth. I've heard that RightNow is doing really well, but I conclude that Taleo is probably not growing well," he says. Oracle bought customer service cloud RightNow for $1.5 billion in 2011 and bought human resource cloud Taleo <a href="http://www.oracle.com/us/corporate/press/1517159">for $1.9 billion in 2012. </a>
He says that if you strip out the revenue from whatever cloud acquisition Oracle has most recently completed, "cloud revenue out stays flat."
Still, Koenig isn't panning the stock altogether. He maintains a "neutral" rating and target price of $40. The stock is trading at about $38 now.
He thinks Oracle is going to beat consensus expectations tomorrow, and that it's doing an especially good job in selling its the latest version of its bread-and-butter product, the database. Oracle released a new version<a href="http://www.oracle.com/us/corporate/press/1967380"> of its database, 12c, last summer.</a> 12c is designed for cloud computing applications, an area where enterprises are investing heavily.
Oracle declined comment.
