The company is planning to launch its first lineup of electric vehicles in India by the end of 2023 or early 2024, according to a <a href="https://www.91mobiles.com/hub/oppo-electric-vehicles-ev-india-launch-timeline-exclusive/">report</a> by 91mobiles. This isn’t the first time we’re hearing about Oppo’s electric vehicle plans but a launch time for the Indian market hasn't been tipped yet. Earlier this month it was reported that Oppo along with its sister brands Realme and Vivo filed trademark applications for electric vehicles in India. Oppo had filed trademarks for electric vehicles, reversing alarms for vehicles, automobiles, motorcycles, vehicle wheels and more. This doesn’t confirm that Oppo will indeed launch EVs in India but it does hint at the company’s expansion plans of products beyond smartphones. According to the latest report, Oppo’s plans for electric vehicles are already in the works and the launch is scheduled for 2023 end or early 2024. As for what kind of EVs we can expect from Oppo isn’t known yet. It was reported earlier this year in May that Oppo has already started work on its electric vehicle manufacturing, and the company’s CEO Tony Chan has held meetings with battery manufacturers and parts suppliers for Tesla. There’s a lot to expect from Oppo’s electric vehicles since it’s a smartphone brand and this would be the first time the company’s venturing beyond mobile devices. It’s also interesting to see how the company plans on handling the manufacturing and assembling of the vehicles — whether it would opt for local manufacturing or import vehicles. Oppo bucks the trend as India’s smartphone shipments drop 20% in Q1 2023: Canalys

Electric vehicles have become quite popular over the years, and while a lot of the parts are being sourced locally, one of the biggest components of an EV, the battery pack, is currently imported from other countries. The company’s new facility will support the production of large-form cylindrical cells ranging from 22 series to 66 series, suitable for different vehicles. "Our cells are designed from the ground-up in India, for India; to suit Indian operating conditions, climate, and customers, and are hence going to play a crucial role in making India self-reliant while helping the nation realise its ambitious electric mobility vision," said Dr. Akshay Singhal, co-founder and CEO, Log9 Materials. Singhal told Business Insider India that made-in-India battery cells could take the localised components to value up to 90%. Further, he also said that the market is large enough, so any competition is welcome in this segment. He noted that Log9 alone couldn’t cater to the entire market’s demands. Log9 has claimed that the cells produced by the company have improved energy densities, shorter processing times, and reduced efficiency losses. The company has claimed that It has been able to cut down the processing time by 40%, required equipment by 35%, and cut down the cost per kWh by 6%. The company’s current production capacity stands at 50MWh per year. During the first year, the company will start a pilot program to test its battery cells and supply them to its OEM partners. In addition to the cell manufacturing facility, the company also announced the launch of Chervik - the company’s custom <keyword id="6711745" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="battery-management-system" source="Orion">battery management system</keyword> (BMS). The company has claimed that the indigenously developed BMS offers high safety and reliability for high-power applications. Charvik integrates the electronic voltage controller (EVC), telematics, the slave BMS and the vehicle control unit (VCU) into a single motherboard, which it says will make packaging easy. Maintaining the tanks, repairing them and supplying the parts necessary requires detailed training all the way from the crews in the vehicles to the logistics trail supporting them, hundreds or maybe thousands of miles from the front lines in eastern Ukraine. "I would say the ability to train Ukrainian soldiers to support any tanks they are given is almost more important than the type of tank they use," Nicholas <keyword id="374460" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="drummond" source="Orion">Drummond</keyword>, a defence industry analyst specialising in land warfare and a former British Army officer, told CNN. According to Counterpoint, consumer demand is concentrated around promotional periods, during which smartphone and e-commerce companies offer device discounts. “We are observing a change in consumer behavior – demand is now concentrated around promotional periods. The beginning of the quarter saw a surge in demand across channels around the Republic Day sales period. The sub-₹10,000 segment reported a decline of 9%. “The sub-₹10,000 price band continued to decline in Q1 2023, with its shipments falling 9% YoY. Xiaomi, which had a market share of 23% in Q1 2022, dropped to the third position after its market share declined to 16%. The report claims that one of the reasons for the decline in Xiaomi’s market share is the company’s dependence on the online segment, despite a higher demand in the offline segment. Vivo, which has a strong offline and online presence, increased its market share from 15% in Q1 2022 to 17% in Q1 2023. This allowed the company to grab the second spot. The fourth and fifth spots were grabbed by Oppo and Realme, respectively. <ul><li><keyword id="3658" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="india" source="Orion">India</keyword> is looking to woo semiconductor players such as <keyword id="28115" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="intel" source="Orion">Intel</keyword>, <keyword id="171929" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="tsmc" source="Orion">TSMC</keyword> and <keyword id="229605" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="globalfoundries" source="Orion">GlobalFoundries</keyword>.</li><li>The government is currently in talks with these companies to set up local operations.</li><li>The government had announced a production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme worth ₹76,000 crore in 2021.</li></ul>In a bid to push the semiconductor industry, which is in nascent stages, the Indian government is wooing global chipmakers such as Intel, and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. and GlobalFoundries. According to a <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2022-04-26/india-woos-intel-and-tsmc-to-set-up-local-semiconductor-plants">report</a> by Bloomberg News, the government is currently in talks with these companies to set up local operations, thereby bringing high-tech manufacturing to the country. As part of the scheme, the government has offered to cover up to 50% of the project cost. “Most of the pitches to these big companies, I’m making myself. We’re meeting the CEOs, talking to them, making presentations,” Rajeev Chandrasekhar, minister of state for electronics and information technology said in an interview to Bloomberg News. Chandrasekhar added that states in India are competing to attract semiconductor giants. “They are all open to sitting down and negotiating what other incentives, apart from land, they can offer investors. It is a keenly contested, keenly sought-after investment by states,” he added. While a venture between Vedanta Group and Foxconn Technology Group has shown interest in setting up semiconductor foundries in the country, other companies are cautious due to issues such as power outages and infrastructure in the country. India achieved success in its aim of bringing smartphone manufacturing into the country thanks to the incentives offered by the government and the imposition of taxes on imported devices. <ul><li>Indian companies are dependent on imports from China in several key sectors apart from smartphones and smart TVs. </li><li>Products like air conditioners, cars, electric vehicles and even medicines are highly dependent on material from China. </li><li>Even though companies might make many of these products in India, the heavy dependence on Chinese imports could hurt them if the <keyword id="3763841" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="boycott-china">boycott China</keyword> campaign prevails. </li></ul>The dominance of Chinese products in electronics, particularly, smartphones and smart TVs is widely known. But, did you know that even many of the ‘made in India’ products rely on parts imported from China? These are the top 7 sectors that will be hurt the most if the boycott China campaign prevails: <ul><li>Cars – 27% of the imports come from China, including key components used in engines, wheels and electric vehicles. However, Sun Pharma and Cipla would be the least impacted as they are fully integrated and have considerable exposure to the branded business, Motilal Oswal said. <ul><li>Telecom – Airtel and Vodafone Idea use telecom equipment from Huawei and ZTE in a total of 10 circles out of 22. Over 75% of smartphones in India are imported from China. </li><li>Chemical and Agro Chemicals – 10-50% of raw materials are sourced from China depending on the product. Companies are trying to reduce their dependence on China by identifying other countries to source from. Agrochemicals refer to pesticides used by farmers.</li></ul>Rallis, Dhanuka, Sumitomo India and Insecticide will be the worst hit while SRF, Aarti Industries and Bharat Rasayan which make agrochemicals will benefit from the crackdown on Chinese imports. <div type="Article" hostid="261" msid="76297080" title="Arun Bharat Ram and Arvind Lal — the two businessmen who became billionaires during the lockdown" mstype="2" mssubtype="0"></div> <ul><li>Ecommerce and tech startups – Major ecommerce players and tech startups like Info Edge, Zomato and Paytm have high investment exposure to China. These are the market shares of Chinese companies in key product segments The consumer durables and appliances segment which includes products like air conditioners, smartphones, smart TVs, refrigerators and more is dominated by Chinese companies. For instance, 28% of all air conditioners in India are imported.
