The Rupee tumbled 45 paise to close at 83.59 (provisional) against the <keyword id="19949640" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="US-dollar" source="keywords">US dollar</keyword> on Tuesday as the ruling <keyword id="19894848" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="BJP" source="keywords">BJP</keyword> is unlikely to muster an absolute majority in the <keyword id="19923279" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Lok-Sabha-elections" source="keywords">Lok Sabha elections</keyword>. Besides, a massive sell-off in domestic <keyword id="19925781" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="equities" source="keywords">equities</keyword> and a strong <keyword id="20226143" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="greenback" source="keywords">greenback</keyword> against major currencies overseas added to the gloom, <keyword id="20024982" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="forex-traders" source="keywords">forex traders</keyword> said. At the interbank foreign exchange market, the local unit opened weak at 83.25 and oscillated between a high of 83.23 and a low of 83.59 against the greenback during the session. The domestic currency finally closed at 83.59 (provisional) against the dollar, registering a fall of 45 paise from its previous close. On Monday, the Rupee closed at 83.14 against the US dollar. Counting of votes on Tuesday indicated disappointing results for the BJP-led NDA in the Lok Sabha elections, which appears to be losing heavily in its strongholds of Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Rajasthan although it is expected to form the government with about 290 seats. On its own, the Bharatiya Janata Party appeared to be falling below the majority mark with leads in 236 seats despite significant gains in Odisha, Telangana and Kerala, giving some solace to the party after the unexpected losses in the Hindi belt. Its rival INDIA alliance was leading in about 230 seats. In the last elections, the BJP had 303 seats on its own, while the NDA had over 350. Foreign investors were net buyers of Indian equities on Monday as they purchased shares worth Rs 6,850.76 crore on a net basis. FIIs bought shares worth Rs 23,451.26 crore and sold equities worth Rs 16,600.50 crore in the cash segment.

Samples collected from a man with suspected symptoms of <keyword id="7616951" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="monkeypox" source="Orion">Monkeypox</keyword> were sent to the <keyword id="6375751" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="national-institute-of-virology" source="Orion">National Institute of Virology</keyword> (<keyword id="50971" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="niv" source="Orion">NIV</keyword>) <keyword id="2094" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="pune" source="Orion">Pune</keyword> on Monday. Five types of samples of the 40-year-old man currently in isolation at <keyword id="177659" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="fever-hospital" source="Orion">Fever Hospital</keyword> in <keyword id="6354552" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="hyderabad" source="Orion">Hyderabad</keyword> were collected and sent to the lab. The samples include swab from throat, blood, urine, from lesions on skin. According to Fever Hospital superintendent <keyword id="14548303" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="dr-k-shankar" source="Orion">Dr K. Shankar</keyword>, the results are likely to be available by Tuesday evening He termed the condition of the man as stable. According to him, the patient is restless and has a running fever. "The lesions on his neck, hands and chest are like lesions from Monkeypox. It may also be chickenpox," Dr Shankar said. The samples were collected after the man was shifted from his home town Kamareddy to Hyderabad on Sunday evening. According to officials he arrived in Kamareddy from Kuwait on July 6. He developed fever on July 20 and later when there were rashes on the body, he approached a private hospital in the town. Suspecting it to be a case of Monkeypox, doctors referred him to Kamareddy District Hospital and from there he was sent in an ambulance to Hyderabad on Sunday. Director of Public Health Dr G. Srinivasa Rao said the man's six close contacts were also identified. Though they have no symptoms, the authorities kept them in isolation as a precautionary measure. The health department is also trying to trace those who came into contact with them during the last few days. The director of public health said that people need not panic over Monkeypox as it is not a fatal disease. He said health minister Harish Rao was monitoring the situation and giving them directions. "We are taking all necessary measures," he said. This is the first suspected case of Monkeypox in Telangana. Neighbouring Andhra Pradesh had reported the first suspected case on July 17. A two-year-old child, who had gone to Dubai with family, was found with skin rashes on return. However, the samples sent to NIV, Pune tested negative for Monkeypox. Telangana's health department is also requesting Gandhi Hospital in Hyderabad to test the samples from the suspected Monkeypox case. The RT-PCR test would be conducted at the government hospital and if the result is positive, the samples will be sent to NIV, Pune for confirmation. However, the samples from the first suspected case were directly sent to NIV. Fever Hospital in Hyderabad recently set up two isolation wards for Monkeypox cases. One isolation ward each was opened for male and female patients. Superintendent of the hospital said they have arranged for 36 beds and the requisite staff, equipment and medicines. Fever Hospital, as the Sir Ronald Ross Institute for Tropical and Communicable Diseases is popularly known, has been declared a nodal centre for treatment of suspected Monkeypox cases. On Sunday, the first suspected case was admitted. The Fever Hospital had also handled the first few suspected cases of Covid-19 in March, 2020. But, they saw that their city had a few unexpected visitors - migrant labourers who were left stranded. With no savings,no food, these wagers had no work to support themselves either as the lockdown had already come into place by then. Subhadra Rani and Srinivas are one of the few from the large-hearted city, to offer what they needed the most - hope. They started small. Rani started donating home-cokked food to a handful of people. Then she realised that there were many mouths to feed as a huge crowd of laborers gathered outside her house while she and her husband were distributing cooked food, reported Dainik Bhaskar. After failing to produce large quantities from their ‘home kitchen’, they insisted that their neighbourhood restaurant open its kitchen to them. As they started cooking on a regular basis, a few relatives and friends too joined in to help fight hunger. And today, all of them cook food for at least 2,000 people daily. They have been sourcing material for these meals from their savings, making them one of the few heroes of the lockdown. After lockdown, Hyderabad saw a stream of people walking towards it, from the 150 km of radius. As construction activity closed, many people have been left jobless with little to go on. Yesterday, the state government announced that the lockdown might be extended as there had been a spurt in the number of Covid-19 cases. Telangana currently has 334 active cases of Coronavirus. <ul><li>The Indian states of <keyword id="68884" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Telangana">Telangana</keyword> and <keyword id="37102" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Andhra-Pradesh">Andhra Pradesh</keyword> have the highest <keyword id="10644234" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Vaccine-wastage">vaccine wastage</keyword> rates in the country, hitting double digits.</li><li>There are a total of five states with vaccine wastage higher than the nationwide average of 6.5%.</li></ul>COVID-19 vaccines are in short supply making them ‘invaluable commodities’, according to India’s Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW). But, the wastage of vaccines is a growing concern in five Indian states — Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka and Jammu and Kashmir. All of these states have recorded vaccine wastage higher than the overall Indian average of 6.5%. The situation is especially critical in the states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh where vaccine wastage is double digits. <div type="image" title="Copy of Copy of india&amp;#39;s economic growth" msid="81551232" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;Indian states with the highest vaccine wastage rates as of March 16&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div> “Vaccine wastage has to be drastically reduced. Any reduction in wastage means that you end up inoculating more people, therefore the chances of disrupting the chain of infection grow that much more,” said the Health Ministry Secretary during the press conference on March 17. For instance, Telangana’s vaccine wastage is at 17.6%. This means that 176 doses out of every 1,000 doses are being wasted. High wastage inflates the demand for vaccines and raises procurement and supply-chain costs, which the government has to bear. Right now, the procurement cost for the Covishield vaccine is ₹210 per dose and for Covaxin is ₹295 per dose. But, this price tag does not include the costs of logistics, supply chain and administering charges. What is vaccine wastage? According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), vaccine wastage is of two types — close and open vial wastage. Closed vial wastage is a result of improper cold chain and inventory management. Open vial wastage, on the other hand, occurs where health workers are forced to discard unused doses from multi-dose vials. In India’s case, the reason for vaccine wastage is not inefficient transportation or lack of cold storage but the number of doses within a single vial. Once a vial is opened, the doses have to be administered within a span of four hours. There are around 20 doses per vial for Covaxin and 10 doses per vial for Covishield. Both of which can present an issue if there is a low turnout on a particular day, according to <a href="https://www.hindustantimes.com/cities/delhi-news/vaccine-wastage-at-4-1-for-covidshield-17-5-for-covaxin-in-delhi-101612893597345.html">health officials. </a> “India’s Universal Immunisation Program, which provides free immunisation across the country, can be limited by nonparticipation of a misinformed clientele as well as difficulty in reaching isolated communities,” noted the Asian Development Bank (<a href="https://www.adb.org/sites/default/files/publication/678541/adb-brief-166-getting-ready-covid-19-vaccine-rollout.pdf">ADB</a>) in its February brief on vaccine rollouts. According to experts, while wastage of the COVID-19 vaccination doses can be brought down, it’s encouraging to see that things are not as bad as they were with the Rotavirus vaccine, in 2016. During the initial weeks of its rollout, the wastage was as high as 70%.

This facility, which will be built over a million square feet area, can create close to 24,000 <keyword id="11018" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Jobs">jobs</keyword> in the state, Triton EV and Telangana government said. Triton EV is planning to invest about $1.5 billion in this manufacturing facility over the next five years, the company said in the statement. The first tranche -- $300 million -- will be infused in the upcoming months. Triton EV’s Chairperson and Managing Director <keyword id="192817" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Himanshu-Patel">Himanshu Patel</keyword> has claimed that they already have $2.2 billion worth of purchase orders from India. Telangana government, too, has given an order of 3000 EVs to Triton. “We are excited to know about Triton EV’s expertise and vision for the EV market… Industrial policy of the state which is proactively crafted towards fast process driven decision making and action towards bringing new investments in the state,” Kalvakuntla Taraka Rama Rao (also known as KTR), Telangana's minister for Municipal Administration &amp; Urban Development, Industries &amp; Commerce, and IT said on the occasion. The manufacturing facility will produce Triton EVs not only for the Indian market, but also for Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal and the entire Middle East region. Notably, rival Tesla is also <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/tech/news/elon-musks-tesla-cars-to-set-up-its-production-unit-in-karnataka-says-karnataka-cm/articleshow/80905036.cms">set</a> to make an entry into India this year and plans to set up a research and development (R&amp;D) unit in <keyword id="6354321" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bengaluru">Bengaluru</keyword>. Unlike Triton, Tesla will only be focusing on selling in the Indian market and not manufacturing here. However, the Indian government has been trying to attract the Elon Musk-led company into manufacturing in the country by giving subsidies and other benefits.
