However, there is a recovery with an upward growth trajectory from June 2021 onwards with robust sequential growth, revealed the report. Eligibility criteria for Math — Applicants must have done Bachelor’s or Master’s in Technology (B.Tech or M.Tech)/Bachelor’s or Master’s in Engineering (B.E or M.E)/Bachelor’s or Master’s of Business Administration (BBA or MBA). Eligibility criteria for Coding — Any bachelor’s degree with basic knowledge of coding concepts. Codingal The startup, which was launched last year is looking for teachers who have the right expertise to teach coding to young kids. Requirements — Laptop/desktop with a stable internet connection. Eligibility Criteria — Candidates should be from coding background or have a degree in computer science. 4. Aakash Edutech Institute Aakash Edutech by <keyword id="190117" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Aakash-Institute" source="Orion">Aakash Institute</keyword>, known for the preparation of JEE, NEET and other competitive exams is hiring online faculty for Mathematics. Selection Procedure — An online written test will be conducted along with demo round discussion and final round discussion. As many as 90% of the respondents prefer to take <keyword id="4666000" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Online-Coaching">online coaching</keyword>. Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have the maximum share of students opting for them. This trend can be attributed to the growing participation in live sessions and recorded lectures, thereby making it convenient for students to study from home. "‘Gradeup Classroom - Live Classes’ has been able to bridge several gaps pertaining to students’ exam preparation, with measurable outcomes; expert teachers, structured study plans &amp; instant student-teacher interaction. This has enhanced the overall learning experience with more interactive learning," Shobhit Bhatnagar, Co-Founder, Gradeup told Business Insider. Live classes enabled students to interact with co-learners and teachers along with instant resolution to queries. In fact, nearly 20% of the students are willing to shell out more money to benefit from online sessions. "This has had a significant impact on students in Tier 3 and Tier 4 cities. While they may have limited access to coaching centers or find that the fees are out of reach, with online live classes, they now have access to the best teachers and courses wherever they are," Bhatnagar added. For instance, Vedantu, an online tutoring platform is working on providing a personalised experience to its students with the help of Artificial Intelligence tools. Indian students prefer online coaching to offline classes

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Shares of Chinese tutoring companies are crashing Friday after Bloomberg reported that Beijing is targeting the sector. </li><li>China is considering asking education tech companies in the $100 billion sector to turn into non-profits. </li><li>Shares of Tal Education Group and Gaotu Education were among those being hammered in the US market. </li></ul>Shares of Chinese education companies sank Friday, losing more than half their value following a <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2021-07-23/china-is-said-to-mull-turning-tutoring-firms-into-non-profits?sref=GUP2BhaG">Bloomberg report</a> that China may ask companies that offer school curriculum tutoring to become non-profits, a move that could severely damage the country's $100 billion education technology industry. Beijing is considering rule changes that could lead to platforms being blocked from raising capital or going public, the report said, citing unnamed sources. Listed firms will likely no longer be allowed to invest in or acquire education firms teaching school subjects and foreign capital investment into the sector may be banned, according to the report which also said an education ministry spokesman said relevant policies are still being formulated. NYSE-listed shares of <a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/stocks/tal-stock">Tal Education Group</a>, which runs after-school tutoring programs for primary and secondary school students, tumbled by 55% in premarket trade and <a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/stocks/edu-stock">New Oriental Education &amp; Technology Group</a> slid 62%. <a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/stocks/gotu-stock">Gaotu Techedu</a>, formally known as GSX Techedu, dropped 59%.  Byju’s had been planning <a href="https://techcircle.vccircle.com/2019/01/16/byju-s-buys-ar-based-learning-platform-osmo-for-120-mn">overseas expansion</a> for a long time by collaborating with partners in the UK, Singapore and Australia, among others. The deal is expected to benefit both companies since Byju’s was seeking to also become a ‘content-driven platform’ aimed at a younger audience — kids of three to seven years of age are Osmo’s target market. While Byju’s apps mostly target school kids across grades 4-12 Byju’s eponymous founder Byju Raveendran <a href="https://news.crunchbase.com/news/in-international-push-indian-edtech-company-byju-buys-osmo-for-120m/">told</a> Crunchbase the company currently has over 1,000 people dedicated to video and game development. Other Indian unicorns in the league eyeing global expansion India’s growing unicorns are now aggressively looking to test overseas markets, keen to have a global presence, and many have already seen some success. The homegrown food delivery unicorn, Zomato, expanded internationally in 2012, starting with Dubai. Since then, the company has grown multifold with an array of acquisitions. In fact, Swiggy has been considering offshore expansion as well, but is currently focussed on <a href="https://www.entrepreneur.com/article/318201">hyperlocal services.</a> Bucking the general trend of international companies expanding in the Indian market last year, digital wallets company PayTm <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/after-revolutionizing-transactions-in-india-digital-payments-company-paytm-seeks-to-conquer-japan/articleshow/66329611.cms">launched</a> its payments app ‘PayPay’ in Japan. Online tutoring startup Byju’s is the latest Indian ‘unicorn’ going global

<ul class="summary-list"><li><keyword id="6355445" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="education">Education</keyword> pods, sometimes called <keyword id="9698901" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="pandemic-pods">pandemic pods</keyword> or school pods, have become a popular approach to learning this school year.</li><li>The pods, which range in grade level, size, location, and curriculum, are designed to be small, independent classrooms led by a <keyword id="15540" type="POSITION" weightage="60" keywordseo="teacher">teacher</keyword>, <keyword id="133045" type="POSITION" weightage="60" keywordseo="tutor">tutor</keyword>, parent, or babysitter. </li><li>Outside of Boston, <keyword id="21044" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="60" keywordseo="Massachusetts">Massachusetts</keyword>, a group of parents decided to form a <keyword id="1607393" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Pod">pod</keyword> for their first-grade children. </li><li>Insider spoke to their pod leader, Maggie Schacht, about what it's like to go from teaching in a public school to teaching a group of seven students. </li><li>"I've definitely seen it work for the kids," the teacher told Insider. "I know that if they weren't here, it'd be such a struggle for the families and such a struggle for the kids."</li></ul>Around 8:15 a.m. each morning, seven first-graders arrive at their schoolhouse. It's not the bustling <keyword id="202166" type="POSITION" weightage="60" keywordseo="elementary-school">elementary school</keyword> they're familiar with, and it's also not their living rooms, kitchen tables, or playrooms where they spent spring learning virtually. Their schoolhouse is a light blue shed that sits in the backyard of a home outside of Boston, Massachusetts. Inside are colorful chairs, school supplies, and classroom decorations.The group calls themselves "The Backyard Pod."Maggie Schacht is their teacher. This year, instead of teaching in a school system, she's employed by parents while teaching their seven first-graders. Education pods, sometimes called <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/category/pandemic-pod">pandemic pods</a> or school pods, gained popularity when classes pivoted to a virtual platform last spring.The pods, which can range in size and grade levels, are small groups of students learning together. Families across the country have established pods as a middle ground between in-person and full <keyword id="653127" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Virtual-learning">virtual learning</keyword>.<a href="https://www.facebook.com/groups/pandemicpodsf/">Facebook groups</a> have sprung up with tens of thousands of members, and tutoring and babysitting sites have seen <a href="https://www.vox.com/the-goods/2020/8/6/21354637/pandemic-learning-pods-private-tutoring">drastic increases in requests</a> this school year. Schacht shared with Insider what it's like to be a pod teacher, and how she and a group of parents transformed a backyard shed into a schoolhouse fit for students.<div type="image" title="Maggie Schacht" height="1739" width="2319" msid="79252766" hostid="261"></div><h2>Out of work and out of options, Schacht welcomed an unusual job proposal</h2>Last school year was Schacht's first year of teaching. She was a kindergarten teacher for a class full of students.Together, the class faced the challenges of the novel coronavirus. Their classroom had been moved online, and Schacht learned to quickly adapt.But Schacht faced another challenge at the end of the school year, school budget cuts led to her being laid off.Without the stability of a job, Schacht spent the summer tutoring some of her former kindergarten students.Through conversations with parents, Schacht saw the tough decision families were having to make for the upcoming school year.The parents were watching their young children regress academically and socially from online classes, Schacht said. Meanwhile, they weren't comfortable sending students to <a href="https://www.insider.com/teachers-before-and-after-photos-classrooms-2020-8">in-person classrooms</a> teeming with students."They were not comfortable with the knowledge that they would have about how clean the spaces were, what steps the district was taking," Schacht told Insider. "It was a matter of trust and control."The families considered their options and settled on a <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/parents-are-spending-125000-on-education-pods-to-teach-kids-at-home-2020-7">pod-style learning approach</a>. They asked Schacht if she was willing to be their teacher.Schacht told Insider that searching for a teaching role during the pandemic was challenging.Schools were unsure of what fall would look like, and therefore permanent roles were hard to find. Schacht said she likely would've become a long-term substitute teacher, which wasn't what she had wanted to do.So, she agreed to lead the pod.<h2>Mapping the logistics of your own schoolhouse</h2><div type="image" title="Maggie Schacht" height="900" width="1200" msid="79252768" hostid="261"></div>The families and Schacht had lengthy discussions about every aspect of the pod: safety, location, and curriculum.Initially, Schacht thought she would design her own curriculum for the class, but that would be costly and timely, she explained.The families' school district gave parents the option between hybrid and <a href="https://www.insider.com/category/virtual-learning">virtual classes</a>. The group settled on enrolling in the virtual-only model, with Schacht serving for in-person support — thus creating their version of a hybrid learning model. All seven students are in the same online, first-grade class. By staying enrolled in the school district, they'll have a smoother transition back to in-person classes next year. Since Schacht isn't their primary teacher, she helps the children with their virtual classes and supplements where it's necessary. In between online lessons, Schacht leads her own activities. "I've found time and space in our schedule to put my own spark in there and give them an activity that I think they would like," she said.One example is a Halloween science lesson she designed. Schacht brought in a pumpkin so the students could make observations, use their senses to study the gourd, and engage in a hands-on activity — all impossible too do through a computer screen. <div type="image" title="Maggie Schacht" height="745" width="992" msid="79252771" hostid="261"></div><h2>Safety, communication, and trust are the top priorities in the pod</h2>Safety was the families' main motivator to start an education pod. The families wanted a group of people they could trust, and communication is their top priority.Schacht said the group has agreed to limit their exposure, and they decided to avoid all activities that aren't necessary.The need to limit exposure and keep the classroom clean has created some unforeseen pressures of being a teacher, but Schacht said overall, it's gone smoothly. "I feel a lot safer that we're all on the same page," she said. "I think in a [regular] classroom, there are a lot more variables that you don't have control of."She sanitizes the classroom each morning and afternoon. Each student has their own set of supplies, and they wear masks throughout the day. "I was nervous about how we would all work together, but the families have all been positive and super helpful with everything," she said.<div type="image" title="Maggie Schacht" height="900" width="1200" msid="79252773" hostid="261"></div><h2>Schacht told Insider that her salary is comparable to what she made as a kindergarten teacher</h2>Schacht told Insider that she makes the equivalent of a public school teacher salary.In Massachusetts, the average teacher salary is $79,000, according to the <a href="https://www.masslive.com/news/erry-2018/10/8dfafc8c8b7791/here-are-the-massachusetts-sch.html">Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education</a>. Salaries ranged from $50,000 to $101,854 in the 2016-2017 school year.The families set up a payroll account, so Schacht receives payments like a traditional paycheck, with taxes already taken out.Schacht said her group realizes the privilege they have to offer their children this school model. Learning pods can cost anywhere from $200 to $700 per child, per week — something many US <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/covid-19-learning-pods-in-person-school/">households couldn't afford</a>.Learning pods have sparked an education debate.<a href="https://www.insider.com/parents-spending-125000-private-tutors-to-teach-kids-at-home-2020-7">Insider's Nadine Jolie Courtney reported</a> that these pods could further the divide between high-income and low-income students. Other critics point to concerns about <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/pod-style-learning-unequal-addresses-key-issues-how-to-solve-2020-7">reducing the available resources for marginalized children</a>.Schacht said the parents recognized many of those concerns. Earlier in the year, they hosted a school supply drive. By staying enrolled in schools, the families also won't <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/pod-style-learning-unequal-addresses-key-issues-how-to-solve-2020-7">affect the district's funding</a>."They feel very grateful and happy that they're able to have this situation and be able to do this for these kids," she said.<div type="image" title="Maggie Schacht" height="900" width="1200" msid="79252775" hostid="261"></div><h2>Schacht teaches in a large shed that was transformed into a schoolhouse</h2>Initially, Schacht and the families had planned to rotate between homes. Every couple of weeks, the group would move to a new living room, basement, or kitchen for the children to learn.But one of the families had an empty, unfinished shed in their backyard that would make for an ideal classroom, Schacht said.The husband was a contractor, so he quickly transformed the skeleton of a building into a colorful classroom.He added drywall, cabinets, and flooring to the building. The other families searched Facebook Marketplace and garage sales to find the desks, tables, and chairs that now fill the bright room.<div type="image" title="Maggie Schacht" height="900" width="1200" msid="79252777" hostid="261"></div>The building wasn't finished in time for the start of fall classes, so the group learned in a basement for a few weeks.Schacht said her students struggled to stay focused in the basement. It was hard to differentiate between a home environment and a learning environment, so Schacht said the students weren't as engaged.When they moved into the schoolhouse, Schacht said she saw major improvements."I've definitely seen a change in their work ethic since working in the basement to coming to the schoolhouse," she said. "This creates the sense that this is school, this is our meeting place."It's also given the students autonomy over their learning and learning environment.Before the schoolhouse was complete, the kids were asked what they wanted this school year.Schacht said they were eager to celebrate holidays, like Halloween and Thanksgiving. They insisted on listening to Christmas music in the winter, wanted pajama day, and wanted to hang their artwork around the room."It's just becoming our own little happy place," Schacht said. Schacht said it's unlikely that the pod will continue after this school year. Here's a startup called '<keyword id="4003768" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="WONK">WONK</keyword>' (mirror image of the word ‘KNOW’) that is trying to break the barriers in the physical tutoring space and facilitate the search for students and parents to book a tutor. 
 
Launched in February this year, this tutorial booking app is seeing 70% of its customers as repeat customers.The fact that it already has 25,000 members, 15,000 registered tutors, and 8000 downloads shows the tutor services segment is unorganized and new entrants like WONK are the need of the hour. 
 We spoke to <keyword id="4003767" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="vidhu-goyal">Vidhu Goyal</keyword>, the Co-Founder of WONK, to know the idea behind this startup and what the WONK team aspires to achieve in the coming times: 
 
1. How did the idea of WONK come by? 
 
WONK initially started with a personal experience. Being a parent myself, I was looking for a tutor for my own daughter. With a corporate job, usually social circle becomes very limited. So, when I wanted references for my own child's tutor, it could not go beyond one or two people I knew. Also, in the tutor booking process, there is so much ambiguity around it. I was compelled to think that people are going about choosing this professional service vaguely at a time when other professional services are quite based on a couple of filtering and qualifying criterion. For tutors, one needed to know about their education, qualification, background information and work experience. 
 
I decided I wanted more than just basic information for the safety and security of my female child. This was followed by some research to see the potential of the industry, and these became my reasons for starting WONK. 
 
2. What are the various services being offered by WONK? 
 
WONK is the mirror image of the word KNOW. It's basically providing tuition services to children, both academic and non-academic (hobbies and languages) in nature. 
 
There are four kinds of tuition services - Personal tuition at Student's residence, Personal tuition at Tutor's residence, Group tuition at Tutor's institute or it might also happen at one of the student's residence if the group of students have decided to hire a tutor, mock test series will be at tutor's venue. 
 
3. Who do you see as your competitor? Is Urban Clap one of them?

Having covered Delhi and Mumbai, WONK is looking to expand to tier 1 and tier 2 cities. It aims to offer assessment tests and virtual library and will be looking at Asia pacific region for expansion in the coming years.

Since I have been studying Spanish for six months and use it in my daily life in Barcelona, I chose the Advanced level for Spanish. However, I did use the chatbot function to practice and refine my Spanish pronunciation and found it very useful. In scenarios such as ordering in a restaurant or checking into a hotel, the chatbot interacted with me, understanding voice input, and replying with the voice of a native speaker.However, I ended up switching primarily to Catalan lessons to feel more challenged. Here, Mondly set itself apart just by having the option for me to learn the language. I was previously unable to attempt Catalan with other apps since <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/babbel-language-learning-overview" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Babbel</a> does not offer it and <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/duolingo-review-guide-learning-language-2018-1" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Duolingo</a> only offers Catalan to Spanish speakers.By contrast, Mondly includes full courses of less-widespread languages, including Catalan.Once I was set up on the platform, I had access to flexible learning options that I could tailor to meet my individual interests. I had access to around 35 topics ranging from weather to food and drinks.Each topic offered six lessons, one conversation via chatbot, and one vocabulary section. The modules were taught using a blend of techniques, including swiping, fill-in-the-blank drills, multiple-choice, typing, and speaking. I was able to skip the topics I had no interest in like sports and focused on those that were most applicable to my daily life, such as restaurants, shopping, and food and drinks. Each lesson in my chosen topic followed a similar format of introducing vocabulary via a photo and audio of the word interspersed with relevant phrases. This helped reinforce the vocabulary while introducing basic verbs and pronouns. Within each lesson, I was often given the option to either select or recite aloud the correct translation of a phrase. This was a clear departure from many of the other <keyword id="681694" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="Language-learning">language learning</keyword> apps I've used, where the focus is often on rote memorization of vocabulary rather than speaking in complete phrases.However, I could skip the speaking part, which I found myself doing for long, complex phrases. The voice recognition function can also be a bit finicky; while it wasn't always able to recognize my (admittedly inexperienced) pronunciation, it had no trouble recognizing the voice of a friend who is an experienced speaker.<div type="image" title="Mondly 2" height="900" width="1200" msid="77400611" hostid="261"></div>At the start of every lesson, I was given three stars. Stars were lost for mistakes I made and I received points based on the number of stars left at the end of each session. My final score was tallied on a Leaderboard, where I could compare my progress with other learners.In addition to lessons by topic, daily lessons also became available every 12 hours and included anywhere from 8 to 15 words and phrases. After completing a full week of lessons, I was able to access a weekly quiz for review. I found these weekly tests very useful in motivating me to keep coming back every day to practice.There was also a monthly challenge available after I'd completed all the weekly quizzes (although I wasn't quite disciplined enough to practice all 30 days).Additionally, I had access to a vast number of daily lessons that dated back to 2015. However, these were not categorized in any way, so I found myself starting and abandoning several until I found a topic I was interested in. <h2>Drawbacks of Mondly</h2>By completing daily lessons and practicing with a couple of topics each week, I learned a fair amount of new vocabulary. This is a very smart and helpful feature that sets Mondly apart from other apps like Duolingo, which only shows the translation of current verb tense with that subject.Additionally, the lessons didn't require me to use accent markings, which is important for pronunciation, and in particular, understanding the correct verb tenses. This makes Mondly a better fit for the casual learner versus someone looking for a more rigorous academic program.Finally, while the idea of AR is admirable, the execution was clunky. I found the mix of a computer-generated voice in English and a native speaker's voice in Spanish to be jarring and it often included explanations in English that were wholly unnecessary. I also ran into the most issues with voice recognition trying to use the AR, making the experience more frustrating than immersive. The emphasis on speaking complete sentences in authentic situations definitely made this language-learning app more useful than others I've tried. The chatbot feature was also particularly helpful; I could listen to real-world phrases spoken by a native speaker then record my voice as I repeated them. Because I could record myself as many times as I wished, it allowed me to practice and refine my pronunciation. In fact, after a month of using the chatbot, I was complimented by my Spanish tutor and local friends on my improved accent.That said, I don't know that it would be worth the cost of a subscription just for the chatbot. Much of the material at the advanced level of Spanish wasn't challenging enough, so the app is better suited to beginner and casual learners. However, the lack of grammar instruction and occasional unclear translations made learning new phrases confusing at times. I often struggled to understand why a sentence was structured a certain way and the app never offered any real explanations. That said, while I still didn't feel confident enough to speak Catalan after one month of using Mondly, I found that I could recognize many more Catalan words — on signs, in the grocery store, overheard in conversation, and most importantly for me, on restaurant menus.
