New Delhi, Apr 27 () Honda Cars India on Monday said it has launched an online sales platform to help customers manage their purchases without visiting a dealership.<p>The company's 'Honda from Home' initiative allows customers to browse through the product options, select their preferred dealership and proceed to book their car online.</p><p>The platform, which has been designed to simplify the booking process by offering round-the-clock access from any location, will soon be integrated with company's pan-India dealerships, Honda Cars India Ltd (HCIL) said in a statement.</p><p>"Customers can now conveniently book their Honda car from the comfort of their homes. This platform is part of Honda's digitalisation efforts in car retail experience that not only drives convenience but also efficiency," HCIL Senior Vice President and Director (Sales and Marketing) Rajesh Goel said.</p><p>Hyundai Motor India has already integrated its entire sales network of over 500 dealerships across the country with its recently introduced online sales platform. </p>The company's online sales platform -- Click to Buy -- offers an end-to-end retail experience to its customers. Online sales were up 23% year-over-year in the fourth quarter. </p><p>"We are changing from within to be faster and more digital, while shaping our portfolio of businesses for the future," Walmart President and CEO Doug McMillon said in the earnings release. </p><p>Adjusted earnings came in at $1.14 a share, beating analysts' forecast for $1.12, according to Bloomberg. Sales, excluding fuel, at stores open for at least one year rose by 2.3%, beating the forecast for 2.1%. <span>The company said unseasonably cool weather negatively impacted merchandise sales and traffic. </span></p><p><span>Also notable was the 23 basis point hit to gross margins caused by higher fuel costs and third party trucking market rate pressures.</span></p><p>Walmart said its recent acquisition of Flipkart is expected to negatively impact fiscal year 2019 EPS by approximately $0.25 to $0.30, so long as the transaction closes at the end of the second quarter. The results excluded a charge of $0.17 a share attributed to the new tax law and an unrealized gain of $0.03 a share on Walmart's equity investment in JD.com.</p><p>Same-store sales excluding fuel were also strong, coming in at up 4.2% versus the 3.2% gain that was anticipated.</p><p>For fiscal-year 2019, Walmart earned an adjusted $4.91 a share as revenue increased 2.8% year-over-year to $514.4 billion. Comparable sales excluding fuel were up 3.6%. The retailer said e-commerce sales surged by 40% in the fiscal year.</p><p>"Progress on initiatives to accelerate growth, along with a favorable economic environment, helped us deliver strong comp sales and gain market share," Walmart's president and CEO, Doug McMillon, said in the press release.</p><p>"We're excited about the work we're doing to reach customers in a more digitally connected way. Our commitment to the customer is clear - we'll be there when, where, and how they want to shop and deliver new, convenient experiences that are uniquely Walmart."</p><p>Looking ahead, Walmart reiterated its 2020 full-year guidance. The retailer sees consolidated net sales growth of at least 3% on a constant-currency basis and adjusted earnings per share declining by a low-single-digit percentage range. Excluding Flipkart, Walmart anticipates EPS will grow by a low to mid single-digit percentage range compared with FY19. It expects e-commerce sales to grow by about 35% during the fiscal year.</p><p>Walmart shares were up 4.6% following Tuesday's results. <keyword id="6354742" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Flipkart">Flipkart</keyword> on Wednesday said that it delivered 1 crore shipments in the first five days of its <keyword id="2546729" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Big-Billion-Day-sale">Big Billion Day sale</keyword> which is a massive 10 times growth compared to the last BBD when only 10 lakh deliveries were made by the ecommerce marketplace in the same period.<br /><br />The platform witnessed 110 orders placements per second and the momentum was across mobiles, fashion, electronics, BGMH (books, general merchandise and home) and home furnishing categories.<br /><br />In a cheer for MSMEs, over 66.6 crore visits were recorded during the Big Billion Days, with over 52 per cent of these visits coming from tier III cities and beyond.<br /><br />Out of 1 crore deliveries, more than 3.5 million deliveries were done through Kirana partners in the first five days of TBBD, the company announced.<br /><br />"The revival in demand and resurgence of consumption is expected to remain even after TBBD, as we continue to uplift the entire ecosystem," said Nandita Sinha, Vice President - Customer Growth &amp; Engagement, Flipkart.<br /><br />This year, the Flipkart BBD saw 1.5 times the number of transacting sellers compared to last year, among whom, more than 35 per cent witnessed 3 times more sales in comparison to last year.<br /><br />The number of crorepati sellers went up 1.5 times and the number of lakhpati sellers saw a 1.7 times jump.<br /><br />In the mobile category, the platform recorded two times growth in customers. The premium segment of smartphones saw a growth of 3.2 times, predominantly driven by Apple, Google and Samsung phones.<br /><br />The tier III customers drove the sale of large appliances with nearly 50 per cent demand coming from the region for this category, the company said.

Revenue, excluding currency, ticked up 3.0% to $133.6 billion.  </p><p>Comparable-store sales, or sales at locations open at least a year, jumped 1.8%, easily surpassing the 1.3% gain that analysts were anticipating. </p><p>"We had a very solid fourth quarter with U.S. comp sales growth of 1.8 percent and U.S. e-commerce GMV growth of 36 percent," Walmart President and CEO Doug McMillon said in the <a href="http://cdn.corporate.walmart.com/b7/f0/2574877f4b22a54a854e7d416722/earnings-release-final.pdf">earnings release</a>. </p><p>Walmart expects to earn $0.90 to $1.00 per share during the first quarter of 2017. Walmart beats as online sales continue to surge

The retailer said it had increased orders per week to 1.3 million, from 600,000 in the same period last year.</li><li>"Consumers have shifted spend to supermarkets at an unprecedented level over the past three months, and, with its national prominence, Tesco has been the first port of call for many," a <keyword id="6354851" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="retail">retail</keyword> analyst at GlobalData said.</li></ul><p>British <keyword id="6359555" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="supermarket">supermarket</keyword> Tesco posted a 48% jump in UK online sales over the three months to May, and doubled its online capacity over the same period.</p><p>It received 1.3 million orders per week over the quarter, compared to 600,000 over the same period last year.</p><p>In May alone, Tesco's online sales surged by more 90%. </p><p>"In just five weeks, we doubled our online capacity to help support our most vulnerable customers and transformed our stores with extensive social distancing measures," chief executive Dave Lewis said in a <a href="https://www.tescoplc.com/news/2020/first-quarter-trading-statement-202021/">press release</a>.</p><p>However, the retailer said it faced signifcant costs associated with the growth of its online business, and that these were only partly offset by business rates relief and increased sales.</p><p>Tesco also <a href="https://www.tescoplc.com/media/756028/1q-trading-statement-2021-additional-information-slides.pdf">presented</a> a first-quarter online market share of 33.5%. Ocado Plc, its main competitor, was at 15.7%.</p><p>As consumer spending shifted to supermarkets, Tesco was the "port of call" for many, said Thomas Brereton, a retail analyst at <a href="https://www.globaldata.com/tesco-outpaces-rivals-in-wake-of-covid-19-after-doubling-online-capacity-in-five-week/">GlobalData</a>. "Tesco appears to be gearing up for an all-out price war with the discounters that have eaten away at its market share over the past decade.</p><p>Prior to COVID-19, the retailer had developed its supply chain to give it a competitive edge against peers, who prioritized investment in other areas, Brereton said.</p>

First, a levy of around 2% on goods sold online, and second, a mandatory charge on customer deliveries, which could also help cut carbon emissions. </p><p>In a consultation document published July 21, the UK Treasury said an online sales tax could provide a "sustainable and meaningful revenue source for the government." Sunak is considering the proposal, the paper reported. </p><p>In the <a href="https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/903429/Business_Rates_Review_-_CfE.pdf">document</a>, a call for evidence on business rates, the Treasury highlighted corncerns that current rates favour e-commerce platforms, which operate outside of "high-value properties." An online sales tax could ease those worries, and the money raised could reduce business rates for retail properties, it said.</p><p>However, some retailers fear an online sales tax will raise prices for consumers, it said.</p><p>The Treasury said "the pandemic has had a significant impact on how business is done" and as the economy recovers, the government must ensure that the "tax system raises sufficient revenue."</p><p>Another charge being considered by the government, called a capital values tax, would vary depending on a property's rental value and shift the tax burden from the occupant to the owner.</p><p>Last month, Sunak <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/uk-pubs-restaurants-gyms-told-to-shut-down-to-fight-coronavirus-pandemic-2020-3">announced</a> that businesses would not have to pay value-added tax, VAT, until the end of June. </p>
