Madhya Pradesh Board cancels online classes for class IX and XII

<ul><li><keyword id="6630114" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="unacademy">Unacademy</keyword> has raised $50 million in a series D round of funding. </li><li>The startup has investors like Steadview Capital, Sequoia India, Nexus Venture Partners and Blume Ventures.</li><li>The Indian <keyword id="6379645" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Online-Education">online education</keyword> space has players like Byju’s which has also reported profitability.</li></ul>Indian online education startup Unacademy has raised $50 million in a series D round of funding from investors like Steadview Capital, Sequoia India, Nexus Venture Partners and Blume Ventures. The investment, which will go towards bringing on board more educators and better the product, also saw the founders Gaurav Munjal and Roman Saini participate in the round. “In the last few months, we have taken bigger strides toward achieving this mission. We have more than 400 top educators from across the country taking live classes every day on Unacademy Plus. This is available to every student, irrespective of their location,” said Munjal. Unacademy plus is the startup’s subscription plan which has more than 50,000 learners. The startup, which was founded in 2015, has over 13 million learners. “We are seeing unprecedented growth and engagement from learners in smaller towns and cities, and are also very humbled to see that top-quality educators are choosing Unacademy as their primary platform to reach out to students,” said Munjal. This also shows the growth trajectory of Indian online education space. Online education industry in India is expected to hit 9.6 million by 2021 user base, which was 1.6 million in 2016, as per a KPMG report. In fact, a survey by education startup GradeUp also shows that students are counting on online teaching for competitive exams — JEE, NEET, GATE, SSC and banking exams. Meanwhile, the big player in Indian <keyword id="1974983" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Edutech">edutech</keyword> space remains Byju’s – which had recently reported profitability with an increase in the number of paid users. Unacademy raises $50 million as Byju’s success draws top dollars into online education in India

Using online training courses as a tool to build digital skills, millennials are turning towards Web Development, Android App Development, Digital Marketing, and programming languages — Python, C/C++ making them the top courses opted by students enrolling in various trainings, according to a report on e-learning trends by online training platform Internshala. E-learning, more broadly, has been helping transform education in India, growing six fold in the last four years. From three in every 1000 students in 2015 to 18 in 2018, students have mentioned at least one e-learning course in their resume. The number of tertiary students enrolling in e-learning has also significantly grown over the years as students seek more skills. Separately, the online education industry in India is reportedly expected to grow to 9.6 million users by 2021 from 1.6 million in 2016, according to a <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/industry/services/education/e-learning-platforms-slowly-changing-indian-education-landscape/articleshow/68850167.cms">KPMG report</a>. Online education platforms such as Internshala, Coursera, Simplilearn and Udemy are major players in the e-learning space, and have introduced several courses in technical and management domains in tie-ups with prominent universities and companies including<a href="https://www.imperial.ac.uk/news/190523/imperial-launches-worlds-first-online-masters/"> Imperial College of London, UK</a> and Google. The flexibility to learn different skills via digital platforms has attracted young graduates for a blended learning, including one-fourth of the learners from tier-3 cities. Nearly 40% of the total students surveyed took online training to enhance their skill set while 34% enrolled in the programs to land a job/internship. Given that, nearly half (47%) of the total students enrolling in the training programs completed the course. Hybrid learning models have become popular, with around 94% children, globally, engaged in some kind of online or blended learning. At Pearson, we’re committed to being at the forefront of the rapidly growing and changing learning needs, which is why we reach out to learners, educators, employers and working professionals to identify major trends in the education sector through our annual <a href="https://plc.pearson.com/en-US/future-learning/global-learner-survey">Pearson Global Learner Survey</a>. Some of the key trends that came up in 2021 show: <ul><li>The clash of COVID-19 with the world’s increasing reliance on technology has finally pulled education systems fully into the digital age.</li><li>Learners want to take control of their learning and demand innovative modes of education which provide an anytime, anywhere access model.</li><li>Focus on new, innovative, and practical skills has increased; 88% of students want colleges to teach career-oriented skills to prepare them for the 21st century workplace.</li><li>Learners are concerned about how COVID is widening the gap between the haves and have nots, especially for younger students.</li><li>Nearly 90% of world’s women are taking action to change their career paths and 81% are using the pandemic as an opportunity to re-evaluate their lives and careers.</li></ul>Q. Can you tell us what would be some of your focus areas in 2022? What is your larger vision for Pearson India? As the global digital powerhouse of learning, our larger vision is to become the preferred partner of choice for learners, educators and government and provide world-class content, tech-based learning solutions and tools to contribute towards an outcome-based learning framework in India. In order to do this, we need to address the challenges of affordable access, quality learning, and employability, in the education ecosystem which is why we will focus on (1) Strengthening our product portfolio and DTC proposition. Naturally, this will require a lot of support and collaboration from other stakeholders in the market and hence we’ll look at (2) Creating meaningful partnerships in the education ecosystem to jointly build learning solutions. The success of this will rely on the strength of our technology backbone, which is why, we will (3) Enhance process and operations by focusing on Tech and Innovation and, lastly, but importantly, all of these will be built upon a (4) Strong foundation of our people, and high performing and collaborative teamwork and culture within the organization.

As many as 90% of the respondents prefer to take <keyword id="4666000" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Online-Coaching">online coaching</keyword>. Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have the maximum share of students opting for them. This trend can be attributed to the growing participation in live sessions and recorded lectures, thereby making it convenient for students to study from home. "‘Gradeup Classroom - Live Classes’ has been able to bridge several gaps pertaining to students’ exam preparation, with measurable outcomes; expert teachers, structured study plans &amp; instant student-teacher interaction. This has enhanced the overall learning experience with more interactive learning," Shobhit Bhatnagar, Co-Founder, Gradeup told Business Insider. Live classes enabled students to interact with co-learners and teachers along with instant resolution to queries. In fact, nearly 20% of the students are willing to shell out more money to benefit from online sessions. "This has had a significant impact on students in Tier 3 and Tier 4 cities. While they may have limited access to coaching centers or find that the fees are out of reach, with online live classes, they now have access to the best teachers and courses wherever they are," Bhatnagar added. For instance, Vedantu, an online tutoring platform is working on providing a personalised experience to its students with the help of Artificial Intelligence tools. The larger picture Technology has revolutionized India’s education sector. “Students are using these self-learning applications along with their regular studies. Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar said during these tough times, education must not stop and everyone should get access to education like before. "With this cooperation, Google has enabled access to G Suite for Education and Google Classroom programme for our state schools, students can sit at home and learn, ask questions, clarify doubts, save lectures, etc," he said. School Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad stressed on the power of the Internet to take education to the masses and reduce the learning gap. "With emphasis on online resources, platforms, bandwidth, and availability of technological solutions, we aim to make Maharashtra the most progressive state on education," she said. Google India Vice-President and Country Head Sanjay Gupta said since the Covid-19 outbreak, over 32 crore children have been hit by school closures, making access to quality education even more critical. "This collaboration builds upon our commitment to create useful tools that make information accessible over the internet, so that teachers and students continue to benefit from it," he added. Gupta said that this month, the Maharashtra government rolled out a survey asking teachers to register for the first batch of training programmes and out of the 700,000 educators across the state, Google received 150,000 sign-ups in less than 48 hours.
