It is World Youth Skills Day and <keyword id="6569577" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Skill-India">Skill India</keyword> is also celebrating its first anniversary on the occasion. Skill India is one of the pet campaigns by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is aiming at making India top country for providing workforce.

	India is inching towards providing vocational training to youth of the country, making them learn skills, which will also provide livelihood to them, especially in the rural sector.

	The year 2015-16 has been quite remarkable for India as over 1.04 crore youth were trained under various initiative of ‘Skill India’, marking 36.8% growth compared to the year before. 
	 
	Modi also regards skill development as a national priority and as per experts, through concentrated efforts and more awareness and centres, India can make this mission a roaring success.

	One of the best decisions taken in this regard was creating a separate ministry for Skills, which brought Skills, Vocational Training and Livelihoods as an important means of nation-building to the forefront.

	Apart from the government, many private institutions have been training the youth and imparting various skills. Many have also set up centres and colleges to generate employment and give trained youth jobs.

	There are many success stories that do the rounds in the corridors of such colleges, inspiring many others to participate in Skill India and improve the livelihood. 

	For instance, Skill India is very close to President Pranab Mukherjee’s heart and he has ensured that 1500 employees at the sprawling Rashtrapati Bhavan, get certified under the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) component of Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY), across 18 job roles.

	The program has ensured that the people working at the President’s house get oriented to their job roles, are assessed on their existing skills and then certified basis the National Skills Qualification Framework.
 Apart from the President, ICICI and <keyword id="6354720" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ola">Ola</keyword>, top employers and companies in India, have also made sure to impart skills.
 <keyword id="3206069" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="ICICI-Academy">ICICI Academy</keyword>, a nation-wide skill building initiative, has been improving the employment prospects of India’s youth.

	In fiscal 2016, ICICI opened 11 new centres and more than 25,000 youth were trained at the with representation of women at 41%.

	Now, ICICI Academy for Skills has 22 centres, including 10 centres exclusively for women.

	There are various skills imparted here such as tractor mechanic, lab assistant at diagnostic centres, two &amp; three wheeler service technician and retail sales, communication, etiquette &amp; grooming and financial literacy, etc.

	Meanwhile, Ola has signed several MoUs with different governments to train youth. They have so far committed to training 3.2 lakh youth across these states.

	The taxi aggregator has partnered with the National Safai Karamcharis Finance and Development Corporation to support entrepreneurship, skill development training and self-defence courses for Safai Karamcharis and Scavengers.- May 2016.

	It also inked an MoU with Andhra Pradesh government and commited investments of Rs 150 crore in the next three years to train youth and provide safe travel. Ola will provide skill development training to 50,000 driver entrepreneurs over the next 3 years.

At a time when the hospitality industry is seeing new online hotel aggregator entrants that are largely focusing on providing standard affordable stay to any traveler, <keyword id="2825269" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Zo-Rooms">ZO Rooms</keyword> is in efforts to cater to various segment of travelers in the country differently based on their specific needs and demands. For backpackers and leisure travelers, there is <keyword id="2232457" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Zostel">Zostel</keyword> (dorm facility) and ZO homes (bed and breakfast facility); for those traveling with family, they have ZO rooms (budget hotels)/ ZO prime (premium 3 star category)/ ZO star (4-star accommodation) depending on the quality of services customers want and the money they are ready to shell out. Then there is what’s called ZO apartments, largely for corporate travelers who stay for longer duration and want their private space for meetings.

	While their properties Zostel and ZO homes are fresh and new youth-targeted services aimed at breaking the norms of leisure traveling in India, at the same time it’s clear that with ZO Room’s 1,000 properties spread across 50 cities in India already, they are playing it smart. They do not want to lose out on organizing the fragmented market for the traditional, family and corporate traveler. 
 

	“A Zostel caters to backpackers, not corporate or family travelers. These segments want different set of services from what a backpacker would want. So it is essential for us to provide clear and distinguished value proposition for different customers,” says Dharamveer Singh Chauhan, CEO and co-founder, ZO Rooms.
 

	Focused on building these diverse properties, Dharamveer says, the company wants to penetrate everywhere in the country. Currently, ZO Rooms has expanded its network to 11,000 rooms in 1,000 hotels across 50 cities and towns in India. It is targeting 5,000 hotels and 50,000 rooms in the next six months. Where is all the money coming from? 
 For a startup to be able to foray into newer sectors requires backing, and ZO Rooms flaunts of having New York-based investment firm <keyword id="260318" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Tiger-Global-Management">Tiger Global Management</keyword> and venture capital firm Orios Venture Partners behind them. It is reportedly looking to raise $200 million that will help it in raising capital, but Dharamveer refused to confirm the news or comment on it for now. 

	He, however, said that his company has been lucky in attracting investors from the college days when they raised their first round of funding for Zostels. “Ever since, we have got several offers in our journey. We have decided to go ahead with those who share our vision, have relevant experience and understanding of the ecosystem,” Dharamveer said. He feels if startups have a great team and their business is scalable, attracting funds won't be a problem.
 

	At ZO Rooms, meanwhile, efforts are on to upgrade customer services. “You cannot always expect discounts and cashback offers to get more people to stay at your hotels, a method that our competitors have increasingly resorted to. There needs to be real value for customers to opt for you over others. This is why our hotel partners are much more than somebody we are merely giving bookings to. We give them training, provide them with technology support, infrastructure upgradation, vendor collaboration and most importantly, a feedback mechanism system so that customer concerns can be learnt on an ongoing basis and rectified at the earliest,” says Dharamveer.
 

	In this regard, the company also has what it calls ‘ZO advantage program’ using which the hotel staff at different properties are being trained daily via videos. 
 Also, ZO Rooms has partnered with <keyword id="6354720" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Ola">Ola</keyword>, <keyword id="1042120" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Uber">Uber</keyword> and <keyword id="830092" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Zomato">Zomato</keyword> in a bid to make the stay experience for customers more seamless. Another crucial area for hotel budget aggregators in enhancing its services is ensuring security. Even as this can prove to be very challenging as they don't own the properties, yet it is imperative to ensure a secure stay for travelers at the same time. ZO Rooms says it has a decent security mechanism in place. Verification is done on every front from customers to hotel partners. Insurances and due licenses are also taken care of by them when they are partnering with hotels. 

	Interestingly, ZO homes, not everyone is entertained. As a security measure, only people who have already stayed at ZO Rooms at least five times are allowed to use the ZO homes category. Also as a concept, this bed and breakfast facility is a western concept just like backpackers. "It’s a fragmented sector," agrees Dharamveer. He feels it will take another five years for bed and breakfast services to emerge in India because trust and security are key essentials here.
 

	As for other ZO properties, the company's aim is to let people travel unplanned with a free mind. 
 

	"Wherever travelers go, they just have to open their apps and easily find ZO properties in the vicinity that match their requirements. That’s the kind of services and level of trust we want to build with our customers. While redefining traveling experience, we are also providing a simple, seamless process of finding, booking and staying at the best customized accommodations for everyone, everywhere,” concludes Dharamveer.

ZO Rooms has a room ‘available’ for every
traveller

Internet giant <keyword id="6355629" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="google" source="Orion">Google</keyword> on Thursday began work here on its largest campus outside of its headquarters in the US. The 3 million square feet building is coming up at Gachibowli, the information technology cluster. The company also unveiled the design of the campus coming up at the 7.3-acre site it acquired in 2019. <keyword id="68884" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="telangana" source="Orion">Telangana</keyword>'s Information Technology Minister K.T. Rama Rao said he was super excited to break the ground for Google's largest campus outside of their headquarters at Mountain View, the US. The building prioritises sustainability and energy efficiency throughout its design. Upon commissioning, it will offer a highly skilled tech workforce a healthy, collaborative workplace that is both resilient and adaptable, designed to serve the city for years to come, Google said. "I am pleased that Google is deepening its roots in <keyword id="6354552" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="hyderabad" source="Orion">Hyderabad</keyword> through this landmark building which incorporates sustainability into its design, keeping in mind Hyderabad's large and future-focused talent pool," said Rama Rao, who unveiled the building design at a ceremony held onsite. The campus was originally planned as a 2 million square facility with an investment of Rs 1,000 crore. An agreement was signed between the Telangana government and Google in 2015 when Rama Rao had visited the company headquarters in California. Google currently operates out of a leased facility in Kondapur in Hyderabad and employs about 7,000 people. The new campus, which was earlier expected to be ready in 2019, is likely to nearly double the headcount. Meanwhile, Google on Thursday signed an MoU with the Telangana government to support and accelerate its vision of leveraging technology for sustainable economic development and inclusive social development. Under this new initiative, Google will collaborate with the government through its various arms to extend scholarships for Google Career Certificates to Telangana's youth, support women entrepreneurs through digital, business and financial skills training, and strengthen the government's school modernisation efforts with digital teaching and learning tools and solutions. As part of the joint effort, Google will also support the Telangana government's efforts to improve public transportation and use of digital technologies in agriculture. KTR, as the minister is popularly called, noted that Google has been working with the Telangana government since 2017, using its solutions to support "our vision of a Digital Telangana and furthering our mutual aim of making every citizen digitally empowered". "Our previous MoUs with them have resulted in some great initiatives that have positively affected citizens from all walks of life. This time we are focusing on making a step-change in communities such as youth, women, and students and in citizen services," he said. Sanjay Gupta, Country Head &amp; Vice President, Google <keyword id="3658" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="india" source="Orion">India</keyword>, noted that Hyderabad has been home to one of Google's largest employee bases since they started operations in India. "Over the years, we have partnered with the Telangana government to bring the benefits of Google's technologies and programs to serve the needs of people in the state.
