New Delhi, <keyword id="4393078" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ola-Electric" source="Orion">Ola Electric</keyword> on Thursday said it has raised Rs 3,200 crore from Temasek-led investors and State Bank of India. The company announced the successful closure of the funding round from Temasek-led investors and State Bank of India. The funds raised would be utilised towards expansion of <keyword id="6354720" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ola" source="Orion">Ola</keyword>'s EV business and setting up India's first lithium-ion cell manufacturing facility at Krishnagiri, Tamil Nadu, the company said in a statement. The Bengaluru-based firm aims to accelerate its growth by ramping up its two-wheeler manufacturing capacity, launching electric motorcycles followed by electric cars and fast-tracking the construction of gigafactory, it added. "At Ola, our vision is to end ICE (internal combustion engine) age in automobiles and our upcoming gigafactory will be a big leap in India's journey towards becoming a global EV hub. We are committed towards developing core technologies in EVs and cell and are rapidly scaling up manufacturing to further accelerate the transition to sustainable mobility," Ola Electric Founder &amp; CEO Bhavish Aggarwal said. Ola Electric was selected by the government under its ambitious cell PLI scheme, receiving a maximum capacity of 20 GWh.

Gurugram-based offline-to-online commerce platform <keyword id="8103952" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="dotpe" source="Orion">DotPe</keyword> on Monday said it has raised $58 million in its series B funding round led by Temasek. The platform, which "plans to foray into financial services", currently serves over 7.5 million brands across the country. The funding round saw participation from existing investors PayU, the payments and fintech business of Prosus, and InfoEdge Ventures while Mitsubishi &amp; Naya Capital joined as new investors. "As we keep democratising opportunities for business growth with our omni-channel solutions and making technology more affordable and accessible, we also plan to foray into financial services and further empower merchants with business loans &amp; credit lines to turbocharge their growth," said <keyword id="3204218" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="shailaz-nag" source="Orion">Shailaz Nag</keyword>, Co-Founder and CEO, DotPe. Founded in 2020, DotPe's merchant-base has grown over 3 times since launch. DotPe raises $58 mn, plans to foray into financial services

Here are some ways for retail investors to invest in unlisted space: Pre-IPO investment Pre-IPO (initial public offering) trading means buying/selling the shares of a company before it gets listed on the stock exchanges. Since these shares are not traded in the public market, you do not have a marketplace like stock exchange to buy it. Unlisted shares can be bought through intermediaries and platforms who specialise in sourcing and placement of unlisted shares and can facilitate the trade. Intermediaries and platforms buy shares from employees i.e., employee stock options (ESOP), existing investors and offers new investors who are keen to invest. In the last few years, the pre-IPO market has opened up and is now available to the masses. Some investment firms like Analah Capital, TradeUnlisted and Unlistedkart have portals to help investors buy unlisted shares. Shares of these unlisted companies will be held in a demat account. According to Unlistedkart, depending on the unlisted share, the minimum amount can be between ₹ 25,000–₹ 50,000. Other investment platforms have not mentioned a threshold of minimum investment. As per India’s market regulator’s rules, all pre-IPO shares are locked in for six months from the date of listing. It means you cannot sell stocks before six months from the date of listing. In case of unlisted securities, if the stock is sold within 24 months, it’s considered short term. The gains are added to the income of the person and taxed at a tax slab rate applicable to you. And if sold after 24 months, it is taxed as long term capital gains at 20% after indexation. However, remember unlisted shares are illiquid and volatile, so you may not be able to sell your shares in a hurry. Since the pre-IPO market is mostly dominated by institutional players and the transaction among them is generally slower which makes it difficult to sell shares and get money any time of the day. Bikaji Foods ₹881 cr-IPO to open on November 3 Bikaji Foods International is a well known fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) brand that claims to be the largest manufacturer of Bikaneri Bhujia, packaged rasgulla, soan papdi and gulab jamun. Bikaji Foods’ products fall broadly into six categories – bhujia, namkeen, packaged sweets, papad, western snacks as well as other snacks, which primarily includes gift packs (assortment), frozen food, mathri range and cookies. The company sells more than 250 products under the Bikaji brand. The snack maker is backed by marquee investors like Avendus, Axis Asset Management, Lighthouse Funds, IIFL Asset Management and Intensive Softshare. Four IPOs to raise over ₹4,600 crore this week

<ul><li>Section 80JJAA of the Income Tax Act gives deduction for three years to employers for hiring new people.</li><li>The current limit of this provision is ₹300,000 a year that effectively means that the compensation of these people should be less than ₹25,000.</li><li>If the limit is increased, it could help in boosting the salaries of and the number of jobs for gig workers.</li></ul>One of the major concerns raised by the gig workers — such as <keyword id="4235145" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="delivery-partners" source="Orion">delivery partners</keyword>, drivers and more — who work for companies like Zomato, Swiggy, BigBasket and Blinkit (Grofers), is <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/business/startups/news/bigbasket-flipkart-and-urban-company-may-have-paid-fair-wages-but-it-wasnt-enough-to-earn-a-living/articleshow/88946309.cms">the lack of decent compensation</a>. But what if we were to tell you that if an existing provision of the Income Tax Act is clarified and amended, it could raise salaries for the gig workers. Under Section 80JJAA provision of the Indian Income Tax Act, companies can get a tax deduction for hiring new people. If a company’s workforce increased by 50, the salary paid to these employees would make the company eligible for an additional deduction of 30% for the next three financial years, Hemal Zobalia, Partner at Deloitte Haskins &amp; Sells LLP explains. For example, if the company is paying ₹1000 annually to each of these 50 employees, it will get ₹300 as tax deduction for each of them for each of the next three years. Essentially, 90% of the first year’s salary, for each of the new employees, will be deducted from the company’s taxable profit. The goal of this provision is to create more permanent employment for those who are “low-skilled”, according to Jimit Devani, a partner at Deloitte Haskins &amp; Sells. The provision is applicable for employees whose salaries are ₹25,000 per month or less.Increasing the salary limit to ₹35,000-₹40,000 may push more companies to hire permanent employees instead of contractual ones. Meanwhile, Zobalia is of the belief that this would also help in further increasing their payout and salaries. But there is a bigger challenge here. This is not a widely availed incentive by the companies for several reasons. First, companies prefer to hire people on contract and keep them on a third party’s payroll. Such companies cannot avail tax benefit under the 88JJAA provision. Bringing people on to the payroll makes them eligible for other benefits like pension, insurance, and severance to name a few, Devani said. The third parties, however, do avail these tax benefits for employees that have been on their payroll for at least eight months, Devani added. The second issue with this provision is that the benefit is available only on the net addition of employees. Say, a company has a total of 10 employees. Five of them quit the company in a year, and six more are hired in the same year. While the company has six new employees, the net addition to the workforce is only one. And, so, the tax rebate is available only for one additional employee, and not all six. Improving this provision under the income tax law may go a long way in creating sustainable employment for people with less-valued skills, across a range of industries including the gig economy of which the likes of Zomato, Swiggy, Amazon and Flipkart are part of. The current state of salaries in the gig economy As per <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/business/startups/news/urban-company-ola-uber-are-not-the-best-places-for-gig-workers/articleshow/88561764.cms">Fairwork India report of 2021</a>, most newage digital platforms — including Zomato, Swiggy, Uber, Dunzo, PharmEasy and Ola — do not offer fair wages to the contractual workers associated with them. There’s a way government can prod Zomato, Swiggy, Uber and Ola to increase salaries of delivery partners and drivers

<keyword id="6354720" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ola">Ola</keyword> is continuing talks with several investors to raise funds and recently it picked up around $50m from a New York-based hedge fund. India's largest taxi aggregator Ola raised funds from hedge fund Tekne Capital Management, and the funding is expected to take Ola’s valuation to over $3 billion. The latest round comes after Ratan Tata's RNT Capital Advisors and US hedge fund Falcon Edge infused money in the startup. "Ola continues to be in talks with various investors, including Coatue Management for this round," a source familiar with the development told ET. As per reports, Ola’s market share in India will be around 65%, with Uber holding the rest. Ola is going aggressive in the country and is working on several projects, including introducing electric vehicles in cities. The latest funding also comes after Uber is embroiled in a cultural row. Uber has also been slapped with an intellectual property lawsuit from Google's parent Alphabet-owned Waymo.

Ola raises nearly $50 million from New York-based hedge fund; valuation to go over $3 billion

In the last financial year ending March 2019, its standalone losses were at ₹1,160 crore-- which is half of the ₹2,676.7 crore year before. “With a view to become more nimble and have a sharper focus on growth and profitability, we are redesigning the organisation to build a structure that strengthens and leverages our local and global scale and enables faster decision making across all of Ola's group companies,” said an Ola spokesperson. The Board makeover The startup is also reshaping itself to look more like a listed company. It is putting together a governance committee and an ethics committee a source told Business Insider. It is also bringing experienced people into the fold by hiring for top management level across its subsidiary companies – Ola Electric and Ola Financial services.

The company becomes the second crypto exchange to achieve the unicorn status after rival Coindcx, even as deep concerns on the crypto currencies among the regulators continue. In business parlance, a unicorn is a privately held startup company valued at over USD 1 billion. <keyword id="10587326" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="coinswitch" source="Orion">Coinswitch</keyword> Kuber was founded only 16-months ago by Ashish Singhal, Govind Soni and Vimal Sagar. It is the 30th company to enter the unicorn club this year and the youngest company ever. Other young startups to enter the unicorn club include two-year-old Apna and three-year-old BharatPe that were valued over $1 billion this year. 'a16z' is a venture capital firm known to back bold entrepreneurs building the future through technology while Coinbase is one of the early pioneers of creating a crypto economy and operates one of the world's largest crypto exchanges, as per the statement. It can be noted that the RBI has expressed its deep concerns about private cryptocurrencies like Bitcoins multiple times in the past and has conveyed the same to the government. The concerns stem from the high volatility of the instruments, lack of transparency in supply etc. Coinswitch said it will utilize the funds to make crypto a household name and is targeting to onboard 50 million Indians on its platform. The money will also be utilised to hire leaders and experts across engineering, product, data, growth to define the crypto industry in the country, adding new asset classes, onboarding institutional clients, launching an ecosystem fund and on crypto awareness, the statement said. "Coinswitch Kuber is on a mission to build wealth for Indians by making crypto more accessible. I believe, simplifying crypto investments for the Indian youth has helped us to stand out," its co-founder and chief executive Ashish Singhal said, adding that it has reached the unicorn status within 14 months of operations in the country. Started in 2017 by Ashish Singhal, Govind Soni, and Vimal Sagar, the company was launched as a global aggregator of crypto exchanges. It launched India operations in June 2020 and presently has 10 million users in India, of which 7 million were classified as monthly active.
