Electric two-wheeler sales cross the 1 lakh mark after four months, Ola Electric leads the market

The BJP crossed the halfway mark in Rajasthan with its candidates leading in over 100 seats while the Congress was ahead in 77, according to Election Commission trends available on Sunday for the assembly polls in Rajasthan. The Bharat Adivasi Party (BAP) is leading on five seats while the CPI (M) and BSP on two each. The Rashtriya Loktantrik Party (RLP) and Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) were leading on one seat each. Independent candidates are leading in nine constituencies. Chief Minister <keyword id="49103" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ashok-gehlot" source="Orion">Ashok Gehlot</keyword>, ministers Pratap Singh Khachariyawas, Tikaram Jully, Shakuntala Rawat, Brijendra Ola, Vishvendra Singh, Mahendra Jeet Singh Malvia are among the Congress candidates who are leading whereas parliamentary affairs minister Shanti Dhariwal and assembly speaker CP Joshi are trailing. Congress candidate Sachin Pilot is leading on Tonk seat with a margin of 943 votes while BJP leader and former chief minister <keyword id="6361795" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="vasundhara-raje" source="Orion">Vasundhara Raje</keyword> is leading in Jhalrapatan assembly seat with 7,025 votes. As the trends poured in, BJP candidate from Kota north Prahlad Gunjal said that the BJP is going to form the government. "Rajasthan has given the mandate and the picture will become clear in sometime," he said. When asked who will be the CM, he said, "This will be decided by the party high command. We have big leaders like Vasundhara Raje and we need not bring from outside." Gunjal is contesting against parliamentary affairs minister Shanti Dhariwal. Elated over the initial trends, Union minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat said people have voted to oust Congress from the government. "People have failed the guarantees of Congress. They have voted to throw corrupt Congress out," Shekhawat told reporters here. He said that the BJP will be forming the state government with a huge mandate. Polling in 199 out of 200 assembly constituencies was held on November 25. The election in Sriganganagar's Karanpur seat was postponed due to the death of Congress candidate Gurmeet Singh Koonar. Counting of votes polled in the November 25 assembly elections in Rajasthan got underway at 8 am amid tight security arrangements. A total of 36 counting centres have been set up 199 of the state's 200 assembly constituencies which went to poll. Election to the Sriganganagar's Karanpur seat was postponed due to the death of Congress candidate Gurmeet Singh Koonar. As many as 1,862 candidates are in the fray for 199 seats. While 30 election districts have one counting centre, Jaipur, Jodhpur and Nagaur have two centres each. "All District Election Officers, Police Commissioners and Superintendents of Police have been instructed to strictly follow the security protocol at the counting centre," CEO Gupta said. He said that three-tier security arrangements have been ensured at the counting venue and only those with authorised passes would be able to enter. "Separate counting halls have been made for each assembly seat at the counting centre, where as per the instructions of the Commission, tables have been arranged for counting of postal ballots and EVMs," he said. Incumbent Congress and its rival Congress conducted intense poll campaign and are both hopeful of forming a government. While most of pollsters predicted an edge for the BJP, three exit polls in their upper limit forecast a Congress win in the desert state.

Rajasthan assembly polls: BJP surges ahead of Congress to take lead

 “The people’s mandate is with the BJP. We know the reality as we have worked on the ground. I must say, there is nothing to be surprised about if Kejriwal gets defeated from the New Delhi constituency ” he said. In 2020, there are 1.7 lakh eligible voters in Model Town — 93,009 male and 75,300 female. Among the electorate, 2,86 voters are first-time voters. But, only 79 of them are women candidates. The <a href="https://adrindia.org/content/delhi-assembly-elections-2020-analysis-criminal-background-financial-education-gender-and-0">Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) report</a> reflects a stark difference in gender participation among all contesting parties. According to the report, women represent merely 11.8% of the total candidates fielding the elections. However, women participation has increased as compared to the 2015 assembly elections when Delhi sent 66 women candidates — accounting for 10% of the total participants. The key contesting parties — <keyword id="6354944" type="DEFINITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="aam-aadmi-party">Aam Aadmi Party</keyword> (AAP), <keyword id="190679" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-National-Congress">Indian National Congress</keyword> (INC) and the <keyword id="58687" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bharatiya-Janata-Party">Bharatiya Janata Party</keyword> (BJP) — have fielded 9, 10 and 6 women for the upcoming assembly elections. "Congress has tried strengthening the female participation by giving more women the chance to bring a change. Our female candidature is comparatively higher than other major parties. This is even as political parties have been focusing on women-centered issues to woo voters. From triple talaq to schemes promoting women, the government has been stressing on concerns relating to women over the last few years. "Female representation is indeed required to bring a change. The count, however, must increase but the party is also expected to give chance to those who are eligible enough. The time is changing and the representation [of women] has increased this time, which is a positive point," BJP candidate Shikha Rai, contesting from Greater Kailash constituency <a href="https://www.indiatoday.in/india/story/24-in-2020-19-in-2015-more-women-contesting-delhi-assembly-election-year-1639642-2020-01-24">told </a>India Today. Delhi Election 2020: Only 79 women are contesting and most of them are independents

The Maharashtra government has off lately faced a lot of pressure from taxi and auto rickshaw unions for curbing Ola and Uber, the app-based taxi aggregators in Mumbai city, owing to which the government might soon take some action. 
 
The reason, some say, is that the government doesn’t want to offending such a large number of taxi and auto rickshaw drivers, looking at the political cost that it might have to pay for this later. 
 
"There are 1lakh auto rickshaw drivers in the city and about 30,000 taxi drivers, so if each driver has a family of three, then the number comes to around 5 lakh people. So you are antagonising five lakh voters during the civic elections in Mumbai and Thane," a government official told <a href="http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/small-biz/startups/maharashtra-may-put-curbs-on-app-based-taxi-aggregators-ola-uber/articleshow/53409989.cms">ET</a>. "We are working on a plan where taxi and autos also operate like Uber and Ola with flexible fare structures," he added. 
 It was because of an assurance from the government that one of these unions called off a strike that was scheduled from yesterday. However, needless to say, executives from Uber and Ola were also not going to sit quietly, because of which they have sought an appointment with CM <keyword id="6355042" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Devendra-Fadnavis">Devendra Fadnavis</keyword>.

According to Aon Hewitt’s 21st India Annual Salary Increase Survey, the IT-BPM industry’s growth projections for 2016-17 has seen a markdown to 8-10% from its earlier projections of 10-12%. That is a significant change as the total women representation is now at 34%, as compared to 27% earlier. All the three major parties — Bharatiya Janata Party, Aam Aadmi Party, and Congress — together fielded 24 female candidates, <a href="https://www.indiatoday.in/india/story/24-in-2020-19-in-2015-more-women-contesting-delhi-assembly-election-year-1639642-2020-01-24">according to India Today.</a> Congress has the highest share of women candidates at 10, followed by AAP which fielded nine candidates and BJP too gave tickets to five. But the parties have just about breached the reservation as recommended in the Women’s reservation Bill 2008. Though the bill hasn’t passed, several parties tried to keep up with its recommendations of reserving 33% of the candidature to women. A bill which sought one-third reservation for women in the lower house of Parliament and all state assemblies — was passed by Rajya Sabha in 2010. This was stalled after it failed to get votes in the Lok Sabha. It has remained in the pending pile ever since. In Lok Sabha Election 2019, Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and Trinamool Congress (TMC) also promised that they would allocate at least a third of tickets to women. Whereas, BJP and Congress failed to reserve seats for women in both Lok Sabha and state assembly though it was a part of their manifestos. And the startups are doing their part to stay involved in the process. Indian ride-hailing unicorn Ola Cabs, for whom Bengaluru is home base, has allotted 270 cabs to the Election Commission. These cabs will help Persons with Disabilities commute to the polling booths in Bengaluru, Mysuru and Mangaluru. Ola has also made it possible for Nodal Officers to check on the status of the scheduled pick-ups of PwD voters through calls to the driver partners. “In the recent past, we have seen that availability of convenient transport options has resulted in positive voter turnout and we will continue to back initiatives that support the constitutional machinery of the country. We are glad to partner with the local authorities and facilitate hassle-free mobility for every voter in Bengaluru,” said Vishnu Bommareddy, Regional Head – South at Ola. Meanwhile, Bengaluru-based Sharechat has weeded out 487,000 posts on its platform which violated community guidelines because of abusive content. Sharechat, which is India's own social media platform had earlier signed the 'Voluntary Code of Ethics’ to make way for fair elections. But as they go out to vote, entrepreneurs have a lot to ask from the government. From access to funding to angel tax issues and better policies, <keyword id="138263" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="startup">startup</keyword> founders had a list of reasons as they set out to vote. “Startups expect support from an extended eco-system, which includes the government. The biggest hurdle to bring such ideas to the fore is access to capital. In this light, the angel tax should be abandoned with immediate effect. It goes against the ethos of supporting innovation,” said Mayank Bidawatka, co-founder of Vokal, which is an information and knowledge sharing app to bridge the digital knowledge gap among non-English internet users by enabling peer-to-peer knowledge sharing using voice. Another point raised by startups is the possibility of internet monopolies in India and the required action that the government has to take to stop it from happening. “Our government should also have policies around creating a fair playing ground for home grown companies to take on global competitors that have a capital advantage because of existing international operations,” said Bidawatka. When it comes to policies, it's not just about the introduction of new ones but also more work on the current ones. “The most important problem to solve is that startups need a lot more clarity on what are the regulations and compliances in black &amp; white. The ambiguity slows down the innovation more than anything,” said Rajan Bajaj, founder and CEO, Slicepay. With the Twitter hashtag #VoteMaadi, Bengalureans persuaded each other to go out and vote. Harish Bijoor, a brand consultant, voted at the polling booth at the Seventh Day Adventist High School on Old Airport Road, Bengaluru. “The opening crowds in the queues were robust, I only hope we beat our voting turnout number of last elections,” Bijoor told Business Insider, right after he cast his vote.
