In yet another EV fire incident, an <keyword id="6077703" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="okinawa-autotech" source="Orion">Okinawa autotech</keyword> dealership burnt down to ashes in Tamil Nadu owing to a reported fire in an e-scooter belonging to the company. Electric two-wheeler manufacturer <keyword id="143042" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="okinawa" source="Orion">Okinawa</keyword> had recalled 3,215 units of its 'Praise Pro' scooters on April 16, just before the dealership was engulfed in flames in Tamil Nadu The EV maker was yet to make a statement on the latest EV fire at its dealership. No casualties were reported and the fire was put out with the help of locals but the entire showroom was gutted. This was the sixth EV fire incident since the onset of summer this year. While recalling 'Praise Pro' e-scooters, Okinawa Autotech had said that this voluntary campaign is "in the wake of the recent thermal incident and in line with the company's long-standing commitment to customer safety". According to the company, the recall has been initiated to fix "any issue" related to batteries. "The batteries will be checked for loose connectors or any damage and be repaired free of charge at any of the Okinawa authorised dealerships pan India," the company said. On March 26, a father-daughter duo died due to a blast in the battery of their <keyword id="6080167" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="okinawa-scooter" source="Orion">Okinawa scooter</keyword> which was being charged at their home. Late last month, a blue-coloured Ola S1 Pro e-scooter that was parked on the side of the road in Pune caught fire. The scooter burst into flames which soon engulfed the entire vehicle. As more and more electric two-wheelers catch fire in the country, NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant last week asked EV original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to voluntarily recall batches involved in the EV fire incidents. Several electric two-wheelers belonging to Jitendra Electric Vehicles caught fire in Nashik on April 9. The latest one is from the startup Okinawa Scooters, which has become the first electric two-wheeler company to get the Fame-II approval and incentivization. Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of (Hybrid &amp;) Electric Vehicles (FAME) scheme was announced by the Indian government in 2015 to push forward the production and use of electric vehicles. With their inclusion in the Fame scheme, consumers will get a subsidy in the purchase of Okinawa scooters, depending on the model battery kilowatt hour. The Okinawa scooters start at a price range of ₹45,000 and go upto ₹1,46,000. “For Okinawa Ridge+ &amp; i-Praise the subsidy would be between ₹17,000–₹26,000 based on kwh,” said Jeetender Sharma, Founder &amp; Managing Director, Okinawa Autotech Pvt. Ltd. India has seen growth of many EV startups who are manufacturing bikes in India. Okinawa also faces competition from other Indian startups like Ather Energy. Ather Energy’s bikes start at a price range of ₹1,13,000 and it has raised funding from the likes of Hero Motocorp. Pune-based Tork Motors which was one of the first in India to announce electric motorcycles is set to launch the motorbikes soon with an expected price range of ₹1.5 lakh. Another rising competition in the space comes from Revolt Motors, which has been founded by Micromax co-founder Rahul Sharma. Greater Noida, Feb 6 () Electric two-wheeler maker Okinawa Scooters plans to almost double its sales to around one lakh units in the next two years and expand its sales network to 600 dealers, said a top company official.The company, which has a line-up of 9 products, on Thursday unveiled the prototype of maxi-scooter Cruiser at the auto expo here, which it plans to launch in the third quarter of next financial year.According to the company, Cruiser, which will be based on fast charging detachable lithium ion battery, would have a range of 120 KM in a single charge with a top speed of 100 km per hour."At Okinawa, we are growing at a fast pace and have multiple developments in the pipeline. We are planning to launch the Okinawa Cruiser in third quarter of the next financial year," Okinawa Autotech Founder and Managing Director Jeetender Sharma said.The company has a sales network of 350 dealers and sold around 60,000 vehicles."We are targeting to sell over 1,00,000 e-scooter units in the coming financial year," said Sharma.Moreover, Okinawa will also be establishing a new facility in Rajasthan soon, he added.Founded in 2015, Okinawa is a disrupter in the segment and is also the first company to get FAME-II approval."Okinawa has always believed that key to innovation is in identifying the requirements of our users. Around 32 percent of respondents are not convinced about the safety and performance of electric scooters in August while in March this year, the number stood at 17 per cent - as more than two dozen electric two-wheelers caught fire in March and April, according to community social media platform LocalCircles. While there are people keen to buy e-scooters, concern over safety and performance are rising. "It is critical for the government and industry to win consumer confidence," the report mentioned. Okinawa has taken a 10% hit in sales, reporting sales of 2,616 units in June, down from 2,907 units in May. No FAME, no gain? India’s electric two-wheeler sales decline after increase in prices

Electric two wheeler manufacturer <keyword id="6077703" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="okinawa-autotech" source="Orion">Okinawa Autotech</keyword> on Tuesday said it has commenced operations at its second manufacturing unit located in Bhiwadi, Rajasthan. The company aims to manufacture close to three lakh electric vehicles per year at the new plant, which will eventually be increased to a capacity of 1 million or 10 lakhs in the next two-three years -- over five times the capacity of its current plant located in Alwar. The new manufacturing facility will also employ over 250 people. "The market is evolving at a fast pace, and the ramped-up capacity will undoubtedly aid us in bolstering the mass transition to e-mobility with a diverse and innovative product portfolio," said Jeetender Sharma, MD and Founder of <keyword id="143042" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="okinawa" source="Orion">Okinawa</keyword> Autotech. The expanded production capacity will enable Okinawa Autotech to not only meet soaring demand in India but also for exports globally. Okinawa Autotech opens second plant in India, to manufacture 10 lakh EVs per year by 2024

The Defence Research &amp; Development Organisation (<keyword id="6355142" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="drdo" source="Orion">DRDO</keyword>) that was tasked with investigating into EV fire incidents by the <keyword id="2518729" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="union-road-transport" source="Orion">Union Road Transport</keyword> and Highways <keyword id="48413" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="ministry" source="Orion">Ministry</keyword>, has found serious defects in the batteries, including designs of the battery packs and modules. According to sources in the know of the matter, these defects occur because the electric two-wheeler manufacturers like <keyword id="6077703" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="okinawa-autotech" source="Orion">Okinawa Autotech</keyword>, Pure EV, Jitendra Electric Vehicles, <keyword id="4393078" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="ola-electric" source="Orion">Ola Electric</keyword> and <keyword id="12512499" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="boom-motors" source="Orion">Boom Motors</keyword> may have used "lower-grade materials to cut costs". The Centre for Fire, Explosive and Environment Safety (CFEES) at the DRDO has submitted its fact-finding report to the Ministry, as first reported by Business Standard. According to the sources, the ministry has now summoned representatives of these EV manufacturers, asking them to submit an explanation on the DRDO report findings. Earlier this month, the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA), which comes under the <keyword id="2876140" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="union-consumer-affairs-ministry" source="Orion">Union Consumer Affairs Ministry</keyword>, sent notices to Pure EV and Boom Motors after their e-scooters exploded in April. The consumer watchdog is also examining more cases of e-scooter fires and will serve similar notices to other EV makers too. Pure EV and Boom Motors along with Ola Electric, Jitendra EV, and Okinawa Autotech, recalled faulty batches after the EV fire incidents were reported. The preliminary findings from the government-constituted probe committee on EV fires have already identified issues with battery cells or design in nearly all of the electric two-wheeler fire incidents in the country. The committee was constituted in the wake of EV fires and battery blasts in e-scooters. The experts found defects in battery cells as well as battery design in nearly all EV fires. The government is now working on new quality-centric guidelines for EVs that will be unveiled soon. At least 12 electric two-wheelers have exploded till now and several EV makers have recalled the faulty batches amid the growing pressure from the government. Update: Ola Electric has issued a statement saying it has not received any communication from the government in this matter. The central government had deputed a team of independent experts to investigate the incidents. According to a CNBC-TV18 <a href="https://www.cnbctv18.com/auto/40-electric-scooters-of-jitendra-ev-catch-fire-in-transport-container-in-nashik-13117622.htm">report</a>, 40 electric scooters from Jitendra Electric Vehicles, a part of the Shah Group were being transported from the Jitendra EV factory in Nashik to Bengaluru when a fire was reported in the upper segment of the container on April 9. "An unfortunate incident took place on 9th April near our factory gate in a scooter transport container. The situation was immediately brought under control by timely intervention from our team," the company told CNBC-TV18 in a statement. “Safety being of prime importance, we are investigating the root cause and we will come up with the findings in coming days,” the company added. The fire has added to the safety concerns as there have been multiple reports of electric scooters catching fire over the past few weeks. This could very well hamper the popularity of electric vehicles in the country and end up slowing down the rollout. This comes at a time when the sale of electric two-wheelers has <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/business/auto/news/electric-two-wheeler-sales-surge-over-5-times-in-2021-22/articleshow/90775731.cms">surged</a> by over 5 times in the past year. The Centre for Fire Explosive and Environment Safety team that has been deputed by the government is expected to deliver its report by the end of this month.
