The Confederation of All India <keyword id="6371444" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="traders" source="Orion">Traders</keyword> (<keyword id="853920" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="cait" source="Orion">CAIT</keyword>) has asked traders to increase their stocks as people are going to buy more in the upcoming <keyword id="188" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="diwali" source="Orion">Diwali</keyword> festival season. Citing a <keyword id="15508" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="yougov" source="Orion">YouGov</keyword> report, CAIT has said that nearly 36 per cent of people living in the urban areas are likely to spend more during the Diwali season. "The expected growth in business among cities will not be restricted to cities alone but traders in small towns and rural areas will also witness growth," it said. CAIT National President B.C.Bhartia and Secretary General Praveen Khandelwal said the report of YouGov was based on Diwali spending index, which shows that this year the spending intent stands for 94-45 in comparison to 90.71 in 2021 and 80.96 in 2020 which is also a parameter for recovery of the economy. In the last two years due to Covid pandemic, the consumers faced a financial crisis." The prominent sector, the CAIT, sees growth include home appliances, Travel, Health and Fitness, Home Decor and gold. The CAIT expects that besides these sectors consumer electronics, mobiles, readymade garments, gift articles, FMCG sector, consumer durables, electrical fixtures and fittings, etc., will also see good business. Stock up for upcoming festive season, retail body tells traders

However, when compared to the pre-pandemic month of September 2019, sales were down 4%, FADA said. “Auto retail for the month of September’22 saw an overall growth of 11%. September witnessed both, the inauspicious period of Shradh (a.k.a Pitru Paksha) from 10-25th September and festive period, which began with Navratri on 26th September. Due to this, the full potential for the month was not realised as it should have been,” FADA President Manish Raj Singhania said. Two-wheeler segment remains a drag; dealers anticipate best festive season this year The two-wheeler segment is yet to show signs of full recovery. Sales for September fell as much as 14% from pre-Covid times despite a growth of 9% from September 2021. Rising prices of vehicles due to increase in input costs along with pricier vehicle loans post RBI rate hike have impacted sales. “Due to increased input costs, 2W companies raised prices by 5 times in the past one year. Apart from this, RBI’s fight with inflation saw rate hikes, which continued to make vehicle loans expensive. While India is showing revival signs, Bharat is yet to perform. 2W, especially entry- level vehicles, are finding extremely less buyers thus dragging the entire segment,” said the FADA statement. Going ahead, due to the festive season there is demand build up for premium bikes. “The 2-W space also witnessed healthy double-digit growth led by innovative offerings in (the) premium segment by Royal Enfield brand at Eicher Motors and channel inventory build-up before the festive season by the industry leader,” FADA said. FADA believes that while the auto retail sales will be better than the last two festive seasons, it will still remain below pre-Covid levels of October 2019. “The enquiry level in (the) 2W segment is showing positive movement. If this segment, especially entry-level 2W, also performs well improving its growth to low double digits, overall auto retail will see higher growth compared to last 2 festivals but may still lag pre-Covid numbers of October’19,” said FADA in a statement. Punjab &amp; Sind Bank State-owned Punjab &amp; Sind Bank on Wednesday said the board of the bank would meet later this week to consider raising up to ₹5,500 crore by issuing shares on a preferential basis. GPT Infra GPT Infraprojects Limited (GPT) has bagged an order valued at ₹162.83 crore from the Hooghly River Bridge Commissioners (HRBC), Transport Department, Government of West Bengal, Kolkata. The contract is for repair and rehabilitation of the second Hooghly Bridge, including replacement of Stay and Holding Down Cables and Bearings etc. The shares of GPT Infra ended 2.09% higher on Wednesday. Lakshmi Vilas Bank Capri Global Holdings sold more than 20 lakh shares of Lakshmi Vilas Bank through an open market transaction. According to the bulk deal data available on the BSE, Capri Global Holdings offloaded a total of 20,55,161 shares at an average price of ₹12.40 apiece. This took the total deal value to ₹2.54 crore. The shares of Lakshmi Vilas Bank ended 20% lower on Wednesday. IndiGo According to the air regulator DGCA data, IndiGo passenger load has increased from 65.4% in September to 68.2% in October. IndiGo holds 55.5% market share in Indian skies. The shares of IndiGo ended 5% higher on Wednesday. SpiceJet According to the air regulator DGCA data, SpiceJet passenger load has increased from 73% in September to 74% in October. SpiceJet holds 13.4% market share in Indian skies. The shares of SpiceJet ended 13% higher on Wednesday. The <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=e-Commerce">e-Commerce industry</a> is expecting sales of Rs 25,600 crore ($4 billion) this year during <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Diwali">Diwali season</a>. 
 
As per the Hindu calendar, the festive season starts with <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/7-Diverse-Dusshera-Celebrations-In-India/articleshow/43980552.cms">‘Navratri’</a> in the month of October. After October, there are a string of festivals and the festivities do not stop till December as the last month of the year is believed to be the most auspicious one for weddings. These festive months, as calculated by the <keyword id="3020651" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Technopark-Advisors">Technopark Advisors</keyword>, are expected to account 40% of the total $10-billion annual sales the Indian e-Commerce industry is aiming to record this year. 
 
The growing sector reported a $7-billion sale in FY15 with 40% sales coming during the festive season. 
 
<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Snapdeal+">Snapdeal </a>senior vice-president, marketing, Idi Srinivas Murthy, said that the company saw a 15x increase in traffic during <keyword id="188" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="20" keywordseo="Diwali">Diwali</keyword> last year and this year too they were intensifying all aspects of business operations, including logistics, supply-chain, financial and technological support. 
 
"We have launched faster last-mile delivery solutions and a refreshed user interface. We are also developing a host of solutions for our 1,50,000 sellers," Murthy said. 
 
Being the most lucrative period for the whole industry, the companies often compete with each other to gain maximum benefits. The two major grounds on which all the e-tailers focus are delivery performance and customer satisfaction. 
 
Mumbai-based furniture and home products seller <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Pepperfry">Pepperfry</a>, in a bid to make most of the festive season, has increased its merchant base, multiplied marketing outreach, has invested in doubling its logistics capabilities by expanding fulfillment centers, delivery and assembly capabilities as well as technology capabilities. 
 
The company’s chief marketing officer Kashyap Vadapalli said, "Our sales were up 200% (last Diwali) as we took necessary steps both at the logistics and supply end.” 
 
The coming festive months are crucial not just for the e-Commerce industry, but also for the companies providing logistics solutions. Logistics startup<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Delhivery+"> ‘Delhivery’</a> is expecting a significant surge in volumes, similar to last year. 
 "<keyword id="1560090" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Delhivery">Delhivery</keyword> is continuously investing in technology, infrastructure and automation to ensure such surges are managed well during the festive season," said Mohit Tandon, co-founder, of the firm. However, with rising demand, these companies are bound to face innumerable challenges. 
 
"Since the logistics partners are common to almost all players, fulfilling the demands over a given period of time becomes a concern," said Praveen Sinha, managing director and founder of online fashion retailer Jabong. "It is not always easy due to the overwhelming response that we get during this time. It sometimes becomes challenging to have a constant stock of products," he added. 
 
In the past one year mobile and internet penetration has increased further indicating that this year online purchasing will grow multi-fold compared to Diwali 2014, Kushal Nahata, CEO and co-founder of enterprise mobility platform FarEye said.

The nine-day Hindu festival of Navratri began on Thursday, which will then be followed by Dussehra, Dhanteras and Diwali; all considered auspicious time periods to buy gold jewellery, coins or bars. 
 
However, investment demand, usually in the form of coins and bars, is likely to be less this year, industry executives hinted. 
 
They believe this may also reduce the volume of gold entering the country through illegal routes. 
 It’s important to note that the <keyword id="6384667" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="bullion">bullion</keyword> industry pegs gold imports at 80 tonnes next month. 
 According to Prithviraj Kothari, vice-president of the <keyword id="2539008" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-Bullion-Jewellery-Association">Indian Bullion &amp; Jewellery Association</keyword>, "Last year during October, we had imported around 35-40 tonnes of gold. Gold availability was under pressure due to the 80:20 rule. But now the process of getting gold has eased and we are expecting 80 tonnes of gold imports as there is demand for the yellow metal in the market." 
 
The 80:20 rule was introduced last year to reduce gold imports, which were straining the country's current account. Under this rule, it is mandatory for the one who is importing gold to re-export 20% of it in value-added form. This rule and a 10% import duty on gold have also led to an increase in gold smuggling. 
 During the second quarter of 2014, investment demand for gold has dropped by 67% from a year earlier to 49.6 tonnes, reveal the <keyword id="113718" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="World-Gold-Council">World Gold Council</keyword>. However, industry executives believe that if the <keyword id="6357264" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="capital-market">capital market</keyword> enters into a bearish phase, then investors may start looking at gold again. 
 
Notably, recent reports suggest that gold may drop below $1,200 level in the international market, and may fall to as low as $1,180 mark. On the other hand, gold was trading at Rs 27,000 per 10 gms in the local physical market.
