Susie Lee is projected to defeat Republican challenger Dan Rodimer and win Nevada's 3rd Congressional District.<h2>The candidates</h2>Before her time in <keyword id="6358883" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="politics">politics</keyword>, Lee dedicated her career to assisting Nevada's educational systems and lowering dropout rates. She was the founding director of the After-School All-Stars, an after-school program for thousands of students. She also served as the <a href="https://www.cisnevada.org/cis-of-nevada-board-chair-susie-lee-awarded-2015-humanitarian-of-the-year/">president of Communities In Schools of Nevada</a>, a dropout prevention organization.In 2016, Lee ran in the Democratic primaries to represent the state's 4th Congressional District. She placed third behind now-Rep. Ruben Kihuen and Lucy Flores. In 2018, however, she succeeded in her bid to replace former Representative and now-Senator Jacky Rosen in the 3rd District.Rodimer, Lee's Republican opponent, is a former professional wrestler and arena football player. He has received <a href="https://danrodimer.com/endorsements/">endorsements from House Minority Leader</a> Rep. Kevin McCarthy, the National Rifle Association, the National Right to Life Committee, and television celebrity Rick Harrison from the show "Pawn Stars." The district is located directly south of Las Vegas and contains the cities of Henderson, Summerlin South, Boulder City, Searchlight, Laughlin, and parts of unincorporated Clark County.The district is one of 30 in the United States that voted for President Donald Trump in 2016 but is currently represented by a Democrat. This district flipped from narrowly backing former President Barack Obama by a margin of less than one percentage point in 2012 to voting for Trump also by one point, <a href="https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1whYBonfwlgTGnYl7U_IH31G0JNYQ9QBIjDfqkZHkW-0/edit#gid=0">according to the Daily Kos. </a>Lee won her race in 2018, and Democratic Sen. Jacky Rosen carried the district <a href="https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/15pwjFcLtVFstC8cpSZYoIYyu-mrfL0g0jjZ-u48k-Qk/edit#gid=336177061">by a little under 5 percentage points</a> in her race against former GOP Sen. Steve Sisolak carried the district by 4 points in his gubernatorial campaign, <a href="https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1HXedC4gpOJn5U3ZpjJmBIX_D7qOIyyM1fXHpKBIT-sQ/edit#gid=1608183133">according to the Daily Kos. </a><h2>The money race</h2>According to the <a href="https://www.opensecrets.org/races/summary?cycle=2020&amp;id=NV03NV03">Center for Responsive Politics</a>, Lee has raised $4.3 million, spent $4.2 million, and has around $181,430 in cash on hand while <a href="https://www.fec.gov/data/candidate/H0NV03132/">Rodimer has raised</a> $2.7 million, spent $2.2 million, and has around $458,000 in cash on hand. <h2>What some of the experts say</h2>The race between Lee and Rodimer was rated as "leans Democratic" by <a href="https://cookpolitical.com/ratings/house-race-ratings">The Cook Political Report</a> and <a href="http://centerforpolitics.org/crystalball/2020-house/">Sabato's Crystal Ball at the University of Virginia Center for Politics</a> and "likely Democratic" <a href="https://insideelections.com/ratings/house">by Inside Elections.</a>Expanded Coverage Module: insider-voter-guide

RESULTS: First-term Democratic Rep. Susie Lee projected to win Nevada's 3rd Congressional District over former WWE wrestler Daniel Rodimer

<div class="KonaFilter image-container float_right"><div class="image on-image">AP</div></div>A slew of <keyword id="6359957" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="Polls">polls</keyword> from swing House of Representatives districts suggest that <keyword id="66537" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="Republicans">Republicans</keyword> could be playing with fire over control of the chamber after 2014, due to ongoing budget battles that have led to a <keyword id="469382" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="government-shutdown">government shutdown</keyword> and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/boehner-debt-ceiling-default-obama-government-shutdown-2013-10" target="_blank">brinkmanship on raising the nation's debt ceiling</a>.
The surveys, which were commissioned by the liberal group MoveOn.org Political Action and conducted by the left-leaning <keyword id="513573" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="Public-Policy-Polling">Public Policy Polling</keyword>, found that at least 17 districts that are currently held by Republicans could swing in next year's elections. 
Democrats need to swing 17 seats to regain control of the House.
"Democrats must pick up 17 seats to win control of the House," pollster Jim Williams wrote in a <a href="http://front.moveon.org/24-moveon-polls-show-gop-could-lose-house-in-wake-of-shutdown/#.UlF_XWQ2GcQ" target="_blank">memo</a> along with the results. "These poll results make clear that if the election were held today, such a pickup would be well within reach."
What is clearly hurting the GOP, from the results - <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/poll-gop-shutdown-debt-ceiling-blame-2013-10" target="_blank">the perception, as evidenced in numerous polls already</a>, that they are to blame for the ongoing government shutdown that entered into its sixth day Sunday. 
Republicans are losing to a generic Democratic challenger in 17 of the districts surveyed -CA-31, CO-06, FL-02, FL-10, FL-13, IA-03, IA-04, IL-13, KY-06, MI-01, MI-07, MI-11, NY-19, OH-14, PA-07, PA-08, WI-07. 
And in four more districts, the Republican incumbent would trail a generic Democrat after pollsters told survey respondents that their representatives supported the government shutdown. Those districts were CA-10, NY-11, NY-23, VA-02. 
In all of the districts, voters oppose the shutdown by at least a 10-point margin. In some more heavily affected districts - such as Virginia's second district that is occupied by Republican Rep. Scott Rigell - the disparity is even more staggering. Only 29% support the shutdown, compared with 65% who oppose.
Take the results with a grain of salt - it's still much too early to draw any definitive conclusions from what's now a six-day shutdown, and the 2014 elections are more than a year away.
Nevertheless, political analyst Larry Sabato <a href="http://www.centerforpolitics.org/crystalball/articles/the-politics-of-the-shutdown/" target="_blank">said last week</a> that Oct. 1 - the first day of the shutdown - was the "the best day for Democrats in the U.S. House this cycle." Still, he expects Republicans to retain control of the House because of built-in advantages.
"Simply put, there's no reason why the House should be in play this cycle, and if it is in play the Republicans will have only themselves to blame," Sabato wrote.
